Great food. Stopped by for lunch with daughter. I had a chicken shawarma combo with salad and motabal (Baba Ghanouj), simply delicious. She had a gyro on rice. Definitely coming back when I drive through Bakersfield.

Friendly greeting. Had chicken shwarma rice & salad all was so yummy. Chicken kabobs were great too, ordered by my granddaughter.
Had an old world atmosphere. Authentic music, & very clean.
A medical doctor from across town drove there to get lunch for all of staff and bragged on the place while I was there. I will definitely go again.

Delicious food, sweet staff, and a good experience! The portions are smaller than what most might be use to, but remember, quality over quantity ;) If you are looking for authentic food, stop by here!

First tried this place about a month ago as it was recommended by a friend. My wife ordered the chicken Schawarma and I decided on the beef Schawarma with rice and hummus. The food was beyond amazing! The beef was perfectly marinated and the rice/​hummus with pita bread took this dish to the next level. My prior spot was flaming skewers, after trying this place… I probably will never go back! After talking with the owner I discovered they use only organic products and shop every morning so the ingredients are always fresh! It’s a must try Mediterranean/​Greek spot in town! Don’t be fooled by the «hole in the wall» exterior.

Absolutely wonderful. I love Mediterranean food and this is one of the best in Bakersfield. I had the chicken swarma, which was was on point! The décor has a cultural feel to it.
I will definitely return.

Love this place! Very friendly staff. The food is really fresh and perfectly seasoned. I recommend the chicken shwarma with hummus and salad. If you are looking for something quick, this is not the place, but the longer wait is worth it if you have the time!

Great food. Which means décor and ambience isn’t everything. I enjoy every meal as if it is my first. Flavor of the Mediterranean in Bakersfield who would have guessed.

Went in today to get my food To Go. Asked the lady for the lunch menu. Not even 2 mins in. Are you ready to order? Wth? I just barely glance at the menu. I looked at my choices and saw Beef. So I ordered combo #3. And with her loud voice «with what?!» Ummm… I got a little confused. «Do you want rice or salad?!”-rude lady. I picked rice. I don’t know what her problem was to even talk to me with that tone of voice. Anyways, I had a horrible experience for being a first timer. Never going here again.
Lunch combo is a small portion (BEWARE), the sandwich was way too oily, and the rice was super plain. I’m still hungry. I would rather pay extra to eat at Athena’s for good quality food and great customer service.

The food here was great.
Beef Shwarma and Chicken Kabob, and falafel were all really delicious. Sides, pita and hummus were complimented the meal well. My only food complaint was the tebouli – it tasted too strongly of vinegar.
That being said, the service was definitely lacking. We went at lunch and the place was pretty empty, so my experience may be atypical.

We decided to try this place out as it is hubby’s absolute fave cuisine. We were a bit surprised on a weekend evening that not one person was dining in. The bare, 70’s décor was not what we had had in mind and we felt like we were intruding on the owners sitting at a back table. We were greeted though and we asked for a menu to specifically order a couple of things to go. We were literally hovered over, politely declined drinks twice and while we decided what to get we were still brought over eat in cutlery. We touched nothing so there would be no clean up after us and placed our take out order. No thanks for coming when the food came out, no goodbye, nada. My husband had paid for his choices and the owner turned on her heel and shot back to the kitchen. This is why we will never go back. Zero customer service. Now, one star I added as the hummus is up there with some of the best. Very small portion but very good. They use really good olive oil here. The falafel were the size of a quarter and ok tasting (need more crunch) but not worth the money. As a business you have to rely on repeat business and not worry that you are not making necessarily a ton of money on each order. Every dollar counts. Customer service is critical.

I search out Greek food when I travel and have tried many in Bakersfield. This is by far the best.
Hummus is perfect and Gyro plate is very filling.
Can’t wait to come back!

The «Pita House» is awesome! The food is so full of flavor. I think a big miss conception with places like this, is that it’s not like a steak house where a majority of the food is prepared the night before. I personally will wait an extra 20min. for fresh food. They are organic and serve never frozen food. Come and give them a try!

Where’s the meat? Today I stopped in to try this place that I have read so many great reviews on. I made my order to-​go. I ordered the #40. Lamb w/​rice and humus. After tip my total was $ 17. I get back to work to open your typical three compartment to-​go box to find the large section half filled with rice, one small compartment filled with hummus, and the third compartment half filled with the lamb shavings.
Now everything was very good, I’m not complaining about the taste. But for $ 15 plus dollars I expect more than what I received. My co-​worker went to fire & metal sticks (think about it) after seeing what I picked up for lunch. For less money she came back with twice the lamb and a salad. I will not be returning. Sad, the lamb had a great flavor, but I could have prepared that meal myself at home for half that price. I left a pic of my box in the pictures for comparison.

The food was DELICIOUS!!! Portions were appropriate though the prices were a little high. The hummus with meat is AMAZING and could be eaten as a dish on its own. My husband was raving about it. Each ingredient was delectable. The olive oil used in hummus was very high quality. We learned from the owner’s son that their olive oil is imported from Greece. I had chicken kebab and that was delicious! Hubby had the Gyro plate– soooo good!!! I expected to wait a long time for our meal due to the reviews, but we didn’t wait very long. There was one other party in there. This family is Jordanian. Yes it’s a hole in the wall, but it feels authentic. I’ve been to Jordan, as I’ve lived and traveled throughout the Middle East. They even had Arabic Christmas carols on! It was so beautiful listening to Silent Night in Arabic! In restaurants in the middle east, they play music videos and loud music. It was also great to chat with the owner and her son, who was passionate about how they carefully and methodically prepare the food. They care about health and explained about using organic ingredients and meat that is never frozen; food they believe tastes the best when it’s fresh. Damn it! Talking about it makes my mouth water. Maybe I can talk my hubby to going there today

I am shocked by their service. We were 4 friends who ordered different dishes. One of the dishes was kabab. We waited 20 minutes and everybody got served with shwarma. EVERYBODY. We told them that we had ordered different dishes and the lady (owner’s wife) said it takes 45 mins to prepare kabab. So we served this. Me and my friends ate our food.
While paying, i said we had ordered different dishes but you served us wrong dishes and she said «this is not kabab house». I told her. No problem. I ll let everyone know that dont expect kababs here!
She went inside and said something to her husband. Husband came out yelling … Write a review to UN I DONT CARE!
I said «sir, we ordered something and you served something else. «. His response to this:
«It takes 45 mins to heat up the grill. So i served swarms. I thought you ll appreciate it»
I was stunned. Will never go here !

This place is really amazing. Everything is so fresh. I have been here many times and each time I am never disappointed with my meal.
If you are looking for a quick lunch or dinner, do not go here! This is not a fast food place. This is home-​made quality food that takes time. I highly recommend the hummus with meat, and the Mousaha with lamb.
This is a great place for a relaxing quiet dinner.

The food is great, the service is ROUGH. We went once around 5:30 for dinner and they were out of almost everything except for gyros. We ate the gyros and they were delicious, so we were pretty okay with our visit.
Then we wanted to go again, so I called ahead to be sure they had what we wanted. The woman answered, listened to my question, and just hung up. We are going to risk it and see what they have, but if things aren’t there again I can see us not coming back. The food is great, but it’s hard to overcome the terrible service.

When you walk into Pita House, you might be a bit disconcerted by the small space and older décor. The murals are lovely though! The woman who seated us and took our order was excessively demur and not very inviting.
As for the food, the seasoning was incredible. Much better than any other Greek place in town. I got the Falafel plate #1 (3 falafel, Greek salad, and hummus– all drizzled in olive oil). I shared some pita with my son and partner. Just fabulous!
The price was worth the amazing quality of food, and I would recommend this restaurant for all patrons (single, couples, and families)!
