Locally owned grocery store. Lots of tips & favorites here!!! *GEM for CRAFTBEER lovers!!! When other local stores sell out on several occasions Alexanders had still been in stock AND carry many local new & seasonal brands! *Sunday 11am BBQ plates are a MUST! Outdoors they grill ribs, BBQ chicken, pulled pork, burgers, sausage. And come with 2 sides(potato sides, baked beans, cole slaw). I would eat this EVERY Sunday if I could!!! On Thursdays they do $ 19 steak plate dinners which I will have to go back & check out(filet, t-bone, etc + 2 sides) *They have a BEAUTIFUL florist who will cater to your needs on any specific arrangement of your choosing *There café’ is adorable. The country breakfast could feed a small army or just a really hungry belly. My favorite sandwich is the turkey brie with pepper jelly on ciabatta & my favorite soup is the shrimp and corn!!!

More than a boutique grocery, more like a Whole Foods where everyone knows your name. Cheers to the Alexander boys! BTW, one of the few places with Sensation Salad Dressing. I see big boys like Albuttsons copying some Alexander’s items.

The store is amazing and conveniently located. Product selection and speciality items are the reason we shop here often. The establishment is clean and the employees are extremely helpful. If you are looking for that special wine or a choice cut of meat, this place is for you!

I love this store. Only have been a couple times. But it’s an amazing grocery store. It’s like whole foods but way cheaper. Very clean and I love their dessert bar area

Great place to get something to eat. Alot of organic items and home grown. The facility is beautiful. Like a mix of Whole Foods meets Albertsons.

I’m officially obsessed. Can’t believe how long it took me to get over here. Guess we can thank my son’s baseball coach for having practice way out Airline! I agree that the prices are a little higher, but the milk was actually cheaper than any other place I shop(albertsons, trader joe’s, bet r). Their gluten free section is amazing. Their cheese selection had some cheeses that I can’t find other places. I found some unique ravioli combo’s. I don’t even really eat that but it sounded so interesting that I had to buy(beet, goat cheese, and butternut squash…). They have a full café. The menu looks awesome. Can’t wait to try it out. They even offer breakfast. I tried one of their fresh salsas and that was enjoyable as well(mango pico). The employees were helpful but every one that I came across was super young. Whatever. It’s a beautiful store. Can’t wait to go back!

Oh Alexander’s… We live a few minutes away and now I will be working right around the corner and I anticipate my love affair with Alexander’s to just continue to escalate… It’s newer, very trendy, and they try to emphasize Louisiana culture and foods. They have an extensive gluten free section, good seafood and meats, GREAT wines and a pretty large selection of craft beers, a salad bar and hot bar, plus they make their own fudge, gelato, and made-to-order sandwiches.(they also carry Kombucha, which is great if you like that sort of thing!) They are a little on the expensive side for some of their special and high-end products, but really it’s to be expected, as they are catering to the Country Club and Santa Maria clientele. I’ve never had a bad experience, and they have great pop-up market and art markets every once in awhile, and sometimes Food-Truck-Round-Ups.

I really like this store although I tend to stay on the outer edges of it mostly. The coffee area, prepared foods, wines and beer, meats and produce. I really like the grilled and smoked meats as well as the soups. I go there almost every week to complement my Wal Mart trips for other things where high quality and taste is not as important. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I would recommend going there.

While visiting Baton Rouge last week, my sister, dad, and I stopped in Alexander’s just to see what there was and to maybe get a bite to eat. We perused the aisles aimlessly before ending up at Alexander’s Café, which is the sandwich/gelato/bakery section of the market. We ordered some sandwiches, and while we were waiting, we received some of the best customer service ever. Jennifer(who works in the café department) was a true gem! First and foremost, she put up with my dad, who thinks he is absolutely hysterical and witty. Second, she let us sample a plethora of products. She was very proud of the fudge she had made and let us try numerous flavors, and really knew a lot about what she was serving. She let us try gelato flavors also. It was really great to see someone so proud of what they do. The sandwiches were quite delicious also– I had the portobello mushroom sandwich, but got it in a wrap instead. My dad said his sandwich was excellent also. My favorite part was the black bean salad I got on the side– it was somewhat spicy but most delicious! When I’m back in BR I’ll definitely be back, to grab a sandwich and to say hi to Jennifer!

Very nice atmosphere in the café. The organic decaf coffee was easily one of the best cups I’ve ever had. Food looks amazing even though I didn’t dine. Staff was ok.

An upscale grocery store located by the country club of Louisiana. Great deli and dessert bar. They serve macarons from Sucre. Also Thursday’s is steak night!

Since moving back to BR from Dallas Fort Worth, I have been missing the great grocery stores there. I have an urge to drive back JUST for Central Market. To say my standards are high is an understatement. I come from a family of cooks, and as a daughter of a butcher I tend to be picky. To make matters even more complicated I am a Vegan. Now that I’ve given you my life story, here’s my review. When i first noticed Alexander’s driving down Highland I nearly flipped my car. Did my eyes deceive me? Is this really a REALLY large fancy grocery store that was not built in 1985 In BR? On my side of town? That does not require that I fight LSU traffic and curse in broken French just to get there? I am overjoyed to say the least. I hang a California U-E(a U turn for those not in the know) and park the Saturn like a race car driver. I jump out and nearly sprint in the store. I am literally that excited. My kids follow behind probably hoping I do not do anything crazy that will land them on a Therapist’s couch years from now.(too late) At first glance I am impressed. A little«natural foods» section with the obligatory Gluten Free, and coconut water does not live up to Whole Foods, but lets be honest, what does? The produce is so-so, and definitely has that homegrown market feel to it. Despite this, I feel it is VERY overpriced, and some of it seems to be not so fresh. I grab a few bags of produce to tide me over, and grab a few more things. The kids are delighted to find their fave beverage and I spring for it. ON the way out I grab some cheese for dinner and get to the check out. Three tiny bags of food is 65.00. I tell myself I am supporting a cool store and promise to go back and shop a bit more wisely. Two days later, I realize my veggies had the expiration dates torn off of them, and the Brussels sprouts are WAY past their prime. In addition, the cheese is full of blue mold, and my lettuce made me sick. Steer clear of this overpriced Status symbol on Highland. I’d honestly rather shop at Winn Dixie on Coursey even if I feel I should be rocking Mall bangs and neon when I step in the door.

«Great breakfast café & lunch spot». A large-sized café with a breakfast/coffee bar, lunch options, baked goods and high-end grocery store. When cafes in the are area are packed with people, come here and you will not only have elbow room, but a nice, clean space to eat, work on your laptop, chat with friends, have a meeting — whatever it may be. During my first visit here, I was disappointed because my husband and I ordered a burger that not only took about 45 minutes to prepare, but came out raw that my husband had to ask for his money back. Both of us figured it was because they were new and had a some kinks to work out… it was probably their first time making a burger for a customer. All was great during my last visit. I was able to order a double shot espresso over ice without a problem… they knew exactly what to do with that order. After my coffee, I ordered some prepared foods to bring to a lunch meeting — fruit/cheese/chicken salad plate, strawberry/walnut/feta salad, side dishes and cookies. The grocery store seems pretty basic. My favorite part of it is the café and prepared foods section. If it was a bit bigger, it would resemble a Wegman’s grocery store. I will be making frequent visits here.

This is a neat little locally owned market in Baton Rouge. We stop here for prepared foods and specialty items. It’s a nice place but not for everyday shopping.

My gf stopped here for a quick bite at the café a couple hours before a wedding. It reminded us of a Whole Foods or Robert’s. Something in between. We split a pork sandwich with pepper jelly, which came with chips, and I got some brownie brittle in the store to munch on as well. The sandwich was pretty good and the staff was very friendly. A very nice store/café.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! This store is just what was missing on this side of town. They have it all… great seafood, great steaks, sushi, salad bar, extensive wine selection, Sucre’ desserts, great cheeses… seriously, I could go on forever! The staff is sometimes a little slow but always friendly. They even cook on the grill outside during the weekends… and man is it great for a quick lunch. The prices are slightly higher that your usual grocery store but to me it’s worth it to have the great selection.

Today was my first visit and I have mixed, yet favorable, emotions about it. I am a little turned off that similar produce and products found in other high-end markets are more expensive here($ 3+ for a pound of apples or $ 6+ for organic cage-free eggs). However, Alexander’s redeems itself by offering a much larger variety of local products, particularly meats. They also seem to keep a good eye on their fresh foods and keep the store very clean(whereas I have had several experiences of seeing molding/expired food at the chains). All of the service areas(deli, butcher, café, etc) have a service bell available, which is great, although I never needed to use them, as someone was always available to help. I will continue using different sources for my array of culinary needs, but Alexander’s has been added to the short list.

Have visited Alexander’s Highland Market several times now and it is a full service grocery store but what sets them apart from the other high-end markets is their customer service and attention to detail. They are locally owned so they have the advantage of recruiting the best staff who are always helpful and friendly. They have a large meat section and we have tried their in-house seasoned steaks, burgers, chicken and ribs and they are all good choices. You can also find a good selection of specialty products such as gluten-free, specialty meats, and many«Made in Louisiana» products. Oh… and most important to me… they have a fresh seafood section and not only can you not smell the fish when you walk into the building, you can’t smell it when you are standing right in front of it. That is a HUGE clue for me to take my business elsewhere if the seafood is not fresh and already begins to smell«fishy». They also have a ready-made food deli, fresh sushi, a bakery, and a café’ where you can go to eat or just hang out and have a cup of coffee and read the newspaper or a book. We haven’t tried these yet but they have caught our eye walking through the store. We did try the cinnamon rolls and they are good and fresh so that is the only bakery item we can vouch for yet. Certainly worth the visit if you are looking for fresh and local. The other two specialty grocery stores in the area… you know the ones I’m talking about… in Perkins Rowe and Towne Center… are comparable but not locally owned and they are a chain. Truthfully all three get my business but each for different reasons and products. But the real standout here is the service and staff!
