This place was the biggest rip off that i ever experienced. .ordered the stuff artichoke. .no taste at all. tasted as if they cooked it in their dirty dish water. .sent it back. didnt even apologize. Then on to the linguine oreganata with shrimp… another absolutely tasteless dish. the pasta was so hard you felt it crunch when u chewed… when the bill came we were charged 40 for the shrimp and another 8 for the pasta. so 48.oo for that tasteless plate of garbage. We honestly thought we were seeing things… the only thing thsy was decent, and im using that phrase very loosely, was the fried zucchini. …sliced way. Way too thin… felt as if you were eating mouthfuls of breading. .i will NEVEREVER eat there again… so pricey for what you get… they should totally ashamed of themselves

Matteo’s in Bellmore seems to be my family’s go to restaurant when celebrating an occasion and it’s obvious why. The food at Matteo’s is always amazing and the service is usually pretty good. The fried calamari is always amazing and a great way to start any meal. The Veal Chop Valdostana(a thinly pounded veal chop with proscuitto, mozzarella, and mushrooms) is to die for. Seriously, if that was the last thing I ever ate on this earth I would be a happy man, it never disappoints. Most dishes are available both as an individual portion or family style, if you are not sure if you ordered enough(or too much) food, ask your waiter, they usually have a good idea on how much you should order for a given amount of people. Overall, if you are in Bellmore and looking for a nice restaurant with solid Italian food you can’t go wrong with Matteo’s.

Went on a Saturday with some friends. There is a bit of a wait, since they do not take reservations. Once seated, we were attended to within 5 minutes. The drinks are plentiful, but a bit pricey. The main courses were excellent. One of my friends ordered a plate of their home made pasta with a mushroom cream sauce. This creamy dish is out of this world. By the way, everything is family style, so the four of us shared everything. The chicken and shrimp parm. were also excellent. Therefore, I give this place a 4 star rating and a worthwhile trip. The place is also warm and cozy. It’s the perfect compliment to their outstanding food and service.

Someone recently wrote to me to tell me that Sbarro does not own the Bellmore restaurant but all of the others on LI and in Florida. Makes little difference to me as they all stink!

I’ve been eating at Matteo’s for over 20 years and I have to tell you by far it’s the most consistent restaurant you can ever wish to go to. The baked clams are so fresh and so good that you’re not going to want to stop eating them. Although there’s pretty much nothing on the menu that I would eat the New York strip steak is as good as any major steak house I’ve ever been to. The veal chop on the bone with tomato and basil will have people fighting over who gets the brown and one of my daughters favorites is homemade fusilli ala vodka is amazing. The family-style menu makes it amazing to go with a bunch of people ordering as many dishes as can fit on the table. The chop salad with meat and cheese is a must enjoy.

I expected a lot more. The actual place looks quite amazing. Service was all over. They ask you if you want the item on the dish and they happen to skip me twice. I only got food because my girlfriend gave me her food because: Food: not so great. Chicken parm: dry, rubbery, the cheese saved it The salmon was inedible. Really really inedible. The one good thing was the salmon tartar, it was done very well with great flavors. The rest was very bland. The pasta undercooked!!! Why?! Would not come again.

We had a relatively large group for Mother’s Day dinner here(12+ people) and we were pleased with both the service and the quality of food. The restaurant was very busy, but we still experienced an attentive waitstaff and high quality food. Though it is a little more expensive than a typical Italian restaurant, the extensive menu, excellent food, and classy atmosphere make it well worth the cost.

Solid italian food in the heart of the Bellmore village. Great location right across the street from the movie theatre makes this a nice spot for a date night or dinner with a group of friends. They DONOT take reservations which makes this an annoying place to eat dinner on a Saturday night. Even at 8 pm the wait time was 30 min and the place is cramped so there really isn’t a good spot to wait without bumping into people. Food is good, but prices are too high considering this is Long Island. Family style dishes are the norm, but you can get a ½ order which is still way too much food for 1 person. So it’s great that you get a large portion, but not so great when you consider that you are overpaying for it. Overall, it’s OK, but I wasn’t blown away. The wine list is extensive and interesting, although the lowest priced bottles are around 40 which is a bit much. Service was pretty good but a little gruff.

Ok food. Very dark probably because it’s dirty and has vermin crawling around in the kitchen as per the town site that shows all of their violations. Wait on the weekends is far from worth it.

Without a doubt this is one of the best and most consistent Italian family style eateries in the area. Don Peppes spawned a myriad of classic family style restaurants but this one has stayed true to the quality and consistency of food… delivered and served at your table steaming hot and tarry every time. My perfect meal consists of their Little Neck baked clams(save the sauce for dipping your bread). Once that’s done a fresh chopped salad usually hits the spot and prepares the palate for what’s to come. Next up they always have a homemade pasta my favorite being the Cavetelli or Rigatoni with their meaty bolognese sauce and sprinkled with finely ground Parmesan cheese(which they leave on the table and allow you dole out to taste. For the main course I always order a shrimp dish; either Luciano in a red sauce with spinach or Wendy which is broiled and served with a light«mustard-like» sauce with burnt string beans. Their fish marichiarra, sole Francese, chicken or veal Parmesan or chicken rollatini are all thinly cut(the way I like it) with a sweet sauce and nicely well done cheese, cooked to perfection and not too thick and cheesy). For dessert I recommend a plate of fresh fruit and homemade whipped cream along with some soft Biscotti and«decaf» Cappucino. Be prepared to wait up to ½ hour on a Friday or Saturday and don’t be a prima donna if they don’t seat you immediately. The reality is they don’t take reservations for small parties so if you’re coming with the family come early or on a Sunday, Wednesday or Thursday. The bar area is a little cramped but this is local venue and you’re sure to bump into someone you know. The bartenders provide quick service and an ample pour and the host/owners as well as the waitstaff are very hands on as they make a nice show of serving their fine fare. I’ve been to many Italian restaurants from Manducattis in LIC to Don Peps on Lefferts Blvd. to the newly trendy Trento in Farmingdale. The bottom line is that if you want good, local food at a reasonable price, you will never go wrong with Matteo’s of Bellmore.(By the way I am not related nor even friends with the owners; I just appreciate good food done right on a consistent basis. This ownership team gets it right and really cares about delivering an experience that is satisfying every time. Although my wife and I like to try new places sometimes you just want a «sure thing» ANDTHISISIT !

We just walked out after standing at the entrance for 5 minutes, seen by at least 6 who I think we’re employees(appearing busy, greeting people who walked in behind us– I assume they were their friends). No one even nodded and acknowledged we were standing there– we were just invisible. We had called ahead and were advised to «come on in». Never tasted the food.

At what has become our go-to place for above average Italian fare we find ourselves waiting too long for a table quite often. I rarely drink so standing at the crowded bar is not appealing. Reservations would help significantly. The wait staff is attentive and well mannered. Two of my favorite waiters are Big Willy and Tyson. Food is consistently good.

The food and service was perfect! My husband went for the first time around 8pm last Saturday without a reservation. We waited by the bar for 15 minutes and were seated. The waiter I forget his name now was super friendly and hospitable throughout our meal. I got the shrimp scampi and my husband got a chicken dish. So yummy and a nice big portion that I went home with leftovers! My husband got a cappuccino and a brownie which he said was delicious! The atmosphere was loud and fun!

It’s a place where local families come for Italian dinner but also bring their young kids. The dress attire is casual and do not reflect the menu prices; that is, the dinners usually cost more than the outfits seen here. Essentially, Matteo’s is an upscale eatery with a family environment. I wouldn’t suggest a romantic date here. Rather, you should expect a filling and delicious meal(be it at a steep cost). One of the other draws of the restaurant is that it is located in the center of the Bellmore Village on Bedford Ave which offers a few other evening activities nearby.

Ive given this place several chances, maybe its me. Its always packed and people seem to enjoy it. I just thinks its mediocre Italian food. I’m spoiled because my mother is an amazing cook, so I compare all restaurants(especially Italian) to her cooking. And this place simply does not measure up! Go down Merrick Rd to Carmellas, or any other Italian restaurant on the way. I promise you it will be yummier and cheaper and you will be a happier camper… Don’t waste your time waiting at Matteo’s for shvaat pasta, over cooked vegetables, and bland fish and meats.

This place has a solid reputation, and some dishes are excellent while others are just ok. Last night our meal overall was good, but average. Porterhouse for two was good(not worth 85 dollars however), shrimp oreganata was excellent, yet Veal chop was not seasoned at all and tasted like melted mozzarella and mushroom. The apps were good, and a pasta dish we shared had great sauce, but the home-made pasta was way too aldente’. I have to throw in here also, that the«Family Style» prices don’t match the servings provided. I had a great time, hung out with great friends, but I think we all would agree that a 400+ tab for a family style restaurant is excessive.

I’ve been here twice. The first time, we weren’t ecstatic about our«seasoned» waiter. He seemed like we were a bother and he was doing us a favor. I was hesitant to return. Last weekend we revisited and had a waiter that just started there named Danny. He was amazing. Excellent service. Very friendly and attentive. The Maitre-d wasn’t great. We had an almost 90 year old man in our party and were told we would be seated right away. We weren’t seated right away. There was a party of 7 people staring at the maitre-d like us and wondering what the wait was. Tables were open and he was chatting up his friend while customers waited. The food was great. Baked clams are fantastic and portions are perfect for sharing. The food and the new waiter made things pleasant — we will return.

I came here for an early birthday dinner with my family. This was my first visit to Matteo’s. It was quite crowded, but you can expect that on a Friday night. Waited around 30 minutes before we noticed several tables open and no one being seated. We had to speak up and we were seated promptly. The waiter was very nice. The service was quite slow, but they seemed pretty busy. Easy menu to understand, large variety. If you don’t see anything you like, you can ask the chef for a special order(if it is reasonable, of course!) Pretty loud, two large screen TV’s in the dining room. –Appetizers– Baked Clams: Whole, not diced. Excellent taste, cooked perfectly. Stuffed Mushrooms: Ordered on a whim, excellent stuffing. Mushrooms were tender. Stuffed Artichoke: Very yummy, cooked well. I would have preferred more breadcrumb stuffing, personally. –Entrée– I chose a dish from the specials. It was your choice of the«Fish of the Day» cooked in tin foil with shrimp, muscles, and clams with a red sauce. I chose the sea bass. The shrimp was cooked so perfectly, I was dying for more. The muscles and clams were plentiful and tastes delectable. I personally have never had sea bass prior to this– but the first bite melted in my mouth, a lovely companion to the red sauce. However– some parts of the fish tasted like Windex(for lack of a better comparison). I’m not sure if I was eating it wrong, if it was cooked wrong, a bad piece, or what the heck was happening. I played Russian Roulette with my tastebuds and eventually just enjoyed the muscles and clams. –Dessert & Coffee– They brought out a lovely slice of Italian cheesecake for my birthday. It was truly decadent. Always feels light at first, but you know how Italian cheesecake fills you up like lead in your belly! I also had a cappuccino, I wasn’t very pleased. It took 6 sugars and a small amount of anisette to make it taste better. Overall: It was an enjoyable dinner. I would only come here for special occasions, it’s a bit pricey, but you get a ton of food– and it tastes pretty darn good.

Prices are a little heavy for my family, but whenever we can afford it, we order from here. Their food is fantastic! Great portions and excellent staff! The bar makes a great drink! Their dish with the veal and proscuitto is amazing and will melt in your mouth! Oh, and my favorite part… They cook everything so well, so tender, that YOUCANCUTITWITH A SPOON!!!

Matteo’s in Bellmore is a great place for a really nice Italian meal. The service is great, prices are reasonable and the portions are delicious and Big. Meals are done family style and the portions are huge so this is a great place for groups of 4 or more if you like to try various dishes as I do. I highly recommend the Chicken Matteo. They offer valet parking and reservations are recommended.
