Delene is fantastic! She listens to my cut and color ideas and offers great input. I just love how my haiir looks when she’s done. Plus I get lots of compliments on my hair now!

First time I went to see Laurie Edwards for blonde color and highlights I was very pleased. Unfortunately it was a different experience the second time. After spending well over $ 200, I later discovered my roots were still dark and looked terrible. Despite leaving two voice mails for Laurie to see if I could come in for a fix — the second explaining why I needed her to call me back — I never heard from her. Very disappointing!

I followed my stellar hair stylist to The Side Door Salon from the West End Salon (my review on Rebekah can be found there). Before my first visit I was stoked that the location was even more convenient for me (being on foot most of the time downtown Boulder is my Oyster).
The check-​in desk is front and center when you arrive and the gals are always happy to offer you a complimentary beverage — be it a can of lime Perrier or a hearty glass of Pinot Noir (be careful, on those long color appointments the wine can sneak up on you — it’s tasty but strong, particularly if you go for that second glass).
There is comfortable seating in the waiting area which butterflies out from the check-​in desk. In addition there are magazines both out front as well as out back near the dryers/​hair treatment processing round table.
The salon offers lots of new technology for hair drying/​treatments. My only wish is that they would also upgrade their hair washing stations as they could be a bit more comfortable (my neck never does like those sink edges even with the warm towel providing support).
Each stylist station features a little shelf for your beverage/​phone, as well as a locker for you to insert your coat/​etc. (I was pleasantly surprised my large GoLite backpack fit in there on my last visit).
I would like to comment upon my new colorist Lindsay who I was stoked fit me in for a color earlier this week. My appointment spanned several hours and I never felt rushed or in the way though I’m sure to have lapsed into her next appointment. She was happy to consult with me for several minutes regarding what I’ve had in the past, what I envision for my hair and then presenting me with my options and discussion the pros/​cons for each one from there. My hair is dark brown and I’ve been sporting a light brown/​blonde vibe — not always the easiest thing to put on a colorist that hasn’t seen you in the past particularly when you come in with over an inch of root (oops!).
Looking forward to many more visits to this salon. Would love to see them do some parties like I’ve seen at other salons in Downtown Boulder.

Laurie Edwards is the most professional stylist I have ever trusted with my hair.
I am a hairstylist myself and have experimented WAY too much with my hair. It took me four years to grow out all the damage from beauty school and my hair was finally long and natural… although it was frayed and all one length. It lacked any life at all.
Seeing all the amazing reviews about this salon, I decided to make an appointment. I went on the salon’s website and read about Laurie and she seemed very well educated and experienced in the field. I was so excited the receptionist put me with her.
She was so welcoming and took one look at my fine, frayed long hair and knew exactly what to do. Her confidence truly put me at ease. She was so easy to converse with and made the experience so relaxing. The end result… FANTASTIC! I am so impressed with how perfect my hair looks. It is still long and the layers are blended and fall so nicely. My hair doesn’t even look fine and thin anymore! I look better than I have in years. She absolutely understands hair and how to work with it. You must see this woman, she is a true hair guru! THANK YOU LAURIE!

LOVE this salon. Beautiful and stylish décor and a very comfortable atmosphere. I usually accept a glass of chilled white wine and just really enjoy myself. Andy is my stylist, he books up incredibly fast but he’s worth it! I highly recommend the side door salon.

Thomas is a genius. I was nervous to go to a new stylist and a new salon, but from the moment I walked through the door… The side door… I felt welcomed. I’ve been to at least 23 salons in my life and this experience was top notch. My cut and color were PERFECT… And I have a crazy amount of tough hair. Additionally, I’m not someone who does anything simple. Thomas can literally accomplish anything. First salon I’ve been to since LA that blew my mind. 5 stars, all the way. Love, love, love. Plus, they have wine. I always prefer a salon that has wine.

I have been going to Side Door for years and Laurie Edwards is a color genius! Every time I go in and every request I have, she meets and exceeds my expectations. She did the perfect highlights, cut and color for my wedding. She is always up for a change and a challenge when I want to switch up my style. and she nails it every time! I feel 100% comfortable and confident with my hair being in Laurie’s hands. Her decades of experience and constant training are obvious in her work.
As far as the salon goes, I am in constant awe of how professional and beautiful Side Door is. Each woman at the front desk is more delightful then the next. They are always on time, courteous, and go above and beyond to make people comfortable. This is the best salon I have ever been to and I have lived all over the country!

Laurel cut my hair today (fixed it actually), and I am so happy with my haircut! I’ve been looking for someone good since my last stylist left the business. I will return.

GO. SEE. DELENE. She is kind, professional, talented, and downright hilarious. She knows what she’s doing and will communicate well with you. She made me feel comfortable and my hair is silky smooth. This place is really expensive but it’s definitely worth it.

I went to Side Door because my stylist, Rebekah, moved to this location. I felt super comfortable here, the atmosphere is friendly, open, and elegant. Rebekah specializes in hair cutting, and since I have no patience for fussing with my hair, a really good cut is what I depend on. If you are looking for the best haircut in Boulder, you want to see what Rebekah can do for you. She has been cutting my hair for three years, and I have never found a better stylist anywhere, even in upscale salons in New York City and Washington DC.

Amy Kender is the stylist you want to see here. I’ve been going to Amy for years and am always 100% satisfied. Client for life. Color and cut is fabulous — I’ve sent all my friends and clients Amy’s way and they all love her work and personality! Great, clean salon.

I have been to this salon 3 times since moving into the area, initially b/​c the reviews were good so I thought I’d give it a try. Each cut was fine, but not great — and the overall atmosphere was snobby and artificial. It’s beautiful inside, which is fun, but if you aren’t willing to pay for an elaborate cut, plus multiple colors, plus walk out the door with $ 85 in product, forget about customer service. I can get the same cut elsewhere (I currently go to Chicago Hair) with waaayy less attitude.

Great hair salon. Beautiful ambiance and very professional. Lindsey is an incredible hair stylist and truly understands the science of coloring hair. She is amazing and really listens and makes sure she understands what you want and what she can do for you. I am always incredibly happy with my cut and color. I highly recommend her, especially if you have long hair. Love the complimentary wine and beer when you walk in!

I’ve been to Side Door three times. First was with Kiki, and she did a good job but sort of reluctantly did what I asked. I color my hair with demi-​permanent black and asked to have the whole thing done over since it had been a while since I colored it and it was really faded. She said I didn’t need it and just pulled it through in the wash basin, and guess what, it turned out lighter than how I wanted. I had paid $ 75. The second time I went I chose a different stylist, Laurie, who was very nice and did a nice job. She charged me $ 50 and I left a nice tip because she did exactly what I asked and my color turned out alright. The second time I chose Laurie, she rushed me through, was in somewhat of a bad mood, and then when she told the receptionist how much to charge me, she whispered it and then sped off without even saying good bye. The receptionist told me I needed to pay $ 75. I paid it, but then thought about it later and I got the exact same thing the first time and was charged an extra $ 25. I’m not sure why she did that, and I should have called the next day, but I guess I was just too scared to get into a tiff about it. Probably would not recommend this salon. I think they tried to steal from me and I let them do it.

I’ve been searching for a stylist and salon for a long time and now that I’ve found SideDoor and Laurel the search is over! Great environment and really talented stylists. It is definitely higher on the price scale than some other salons in town but it is worth it.
It’s been a long time since I have colored my hair and Laurel was great about easing me back in. She listened to everything I said and was also really creative in approaching what I wanted done and it turned out beautifully — I couldn’t be happier!

Amy, Amy, Amy. I found Amy when she was listed by 5280 as one of the top colorists in Denver/​Boulder. I have never been disappointed. She is truly amazing at what she does. I wanted to give her a shout out because she is fabulous at what she does.

Do not GO HERE. Moved to boulder from Austin Texas with beautiful platinum blonde HEALTHY hair. Was set to get married in 6 months decided to try the Side Door salon. I needed a new stylist here in Boulder and as always it was nerve racking thinking about someone new doing my hair. Because I was getting married I wanted to start getting some low lights in my hair to start breaking up the platinum blonde. I told the stylist what I was thinking, also showed her photos of Victoria secret models with the sunkissed color, very beachy. IN NO WAY DID I SAY dark brown hair. Long story short, I exited the salon that day with ASHY GREEN fried hair. it was awful. nothing at all what I had asked for. Two days I called the stylist and let her know that I was not happy, she reluctantly told me I could come back and she would «TRY» and fix it. When I got to the salon she began looking at my hair and agreed that it was green and ashy but said it should wash out. (yea right) She then said she would try and fix it. she then apparently proceeded to try and bleach it back. instead of informing me that my hair could fall out if she were to do this, she just put bleach all over my head. The process that day took longer than she expected apparently so she washed me out and told me that I would have to leave the salon with wet hair. that day I was wearing a black tank top and black leggings. in my car as I sat, I looked down and I was covered in my OWN HAIR. it was falling out in chunks. it continued to fall out for months. When I called the stylist and the manager of the salon they told me because I had waited a month to call, (SORRY BEING TOTALLY TRAMATIZED and waiting to get my emotions back in order before calling), they would not be able to do ANYTHING FOR ME. So I pretty much paid someone over $ 400 bucks to make me hair fall out before my wedding. my hair is still not the same and it is sad that this is how the salon decided to take care of this situation. I would never recommend anyone here. ever.

The Side Door Salon is clearly always booked for a reason! I was pampered and cared for by the team of receptionists with coffee and warm ups whenever my mug was low. Then I managed to get my eyebrows waxed on a whim, and had my hair colored by an expert stylist. Amy Kender rocks! I have had nothing but compliments since she did my hair, and the cut is cute and easy to style. I walked out feeling very satisfied and like it was worth every penny. I give the scalp massage an A+ and loved my experience.

I have been a client of Dancer Vernet’s for 6 years, and have also had blowouts from Amy Kender, Chelsea Barnes, Jacqui Jolly, Jen Rhomberg and Jennifer Cinnader. Not one stylist here does bad work, and I am always blown away with their skill, professionalism, and quality of hair styling. This is a high end salon, with amazing quality hair products from Kerastase to Davines. You pay for what you get here, and I’m happy to call myself a tenured client of this downtown Boulder salon.

I followed my stylist Laurel here. She gives me a great cut and is very good about explaining what she’s going to do BEFORE she does it. I always leaves satisfied and my cut looks great grown out too.
Its next door to the Unseen Bean coffee shop on Broadway one block east of Pearl.
