This shop has a surprisingly wide array of spices and tea, which you can buy from bulk containers(given to you in small baggies sans container) at a significantly lower price than you would pay for getting pre-packaged spices or tea. Think pink Himalayan salt, Nigella seeds, hot Spanish paprika, etc etc. They have a bunch of coffee, too, but I have never tried it. They also have tea and coffee-related implements like teapots, so you could probably get a great gift here for someone you know who loves cooking, coffee, or tea. Very much a local business, the shop is exclusively staffed(as far as I can tell) by one woman(the female owner?), who is very friendly. I have found the spices I purchased from them to be high quality. Be mindful of the hours, which may be the same hours you are working during the week(10 – 6)! If so, try them on the weekend(if you have weekend days off!).

There is no place like this. Brenda was super nice and her recommendations were spot on. I was amazed at this place. I hope it never goes away. Love Love Love.

This shop is a must see whilst in Park Slope! Brenda really knows her tea-and is very patient with the tea shop newbie. An excellent selection awaits those that enter-you will be very, very pleased! Go, and be amazed!

Small store but they carry a wide variety of specialty teas. They also have an impressive selection of hard to find spices which is the main reason I come here. Prices for teas are a bit costly but the spices are quite cheap and high quality. I definitely recommend this shop,

Odd little tea shop in the best sense. Overly full, delightfully disorganized, and with a kind and helpful proprietor. A great place to browse, or try a new tea!

There is enormous variety of teas in this store. I was not a big fan of tea, however after first time when I went to the store and tried on of the sorts of tea from there I cant imagine my dinner or breakfast without a cup of hot and awesome tea. Love this shop.

Whatever you do, DONOT open a jar and sniff it. I’m told it’s a health code violation– and worse– you will be reprimanded, sneered at, and the owner will hate you forever.(I didn’t notice the tiny sign made with a labelmaker.) This charming store is like an ark with a chaotic, jumbled assortment of items. There are assorted, repurposed jars(surely also a health code violation) with various teas and spices. Not sure about the prices, but I think I can get many of these for less at the coop. That said, there is a variety and the shop is charming. I did inquire about a flavored syrup that I didn’t see in stock. The owner gruffly stated that they didn’t carry it. She didn’t offer to order it, as some out of town reviewers have suggested. Perhaps she was still mad that I accidentally(and eagerly) smelled a tea earlier.

This place has a so many different types of organic teas and spices to choose from. I love how so many of their teas are in different and random glass jars. It’s great to see that a business is recycling their jars. Most spices are in plastic containers and plastic baggies. They also have a few random food items like Oreos, rice Krispy treats and crackers. Whatever you do, DONOTOPENTHEJARS to smell the teas. You will get a dirty look.

Love this place. Bulk spices, pink salt, unusual teas. Nothing like it. Reminds me of little shops in the east village like Angelica’s, which is long gone. This is a great spot for grabbing a host gift if you’re headed to a dinner party or want to get your sweetheart something for no reason. She has weird hours though so give her a call so you don’t miss out.

The only place I have found that sells bulk organic yerba mate(tea with the highest amount of caffeine). To my surprise, they had two different kinds: plain and roasted.

I’ve only been to this place a few times, but here’s a quick perspective. They have a great selection of lose leaf teas, coffee, brewing equipment and kitchen supplies. They also have a really wide spice selection with some esoteric items on hand(e.g. organic coriander). That said you are going to pay for it. Bottom Line: This is a cute little spice shop and there isn’t much like it in Brooklyn, but they are not the cheapest place around and most of what they sell can be found elsewhere.

This place is transported through time from The Oregon Trail to modern day Brooklyn. Every tea, every salt, every spice you could dream up from every corner of the world AND seriously great service to boot. Brenda is outstanding, knowledgeable and friendly. If there’s an Arctic Circle Sea Salt or an Easter Island Rooibos in existence, it can be found here. Just wish they were open till 7.

Cash only(then again, that’s like most small businesses in NYC)! I found it funny that the sign that they didn’t accept debit or credit cards was only visible as you left the store on the door. This place was small but like most NYC businesses, had an amazing system for organizing a whole lot of merchandise within the tight space. Every single shelf or wall was filled and stacked with stuff. Like another reviewer said, I was also nervous about knocking anything over. Don’t make any sudden movements :) I left with a box of Decaf Organic Vanilla Chai Tea that I was pleased with. They also had various loose-leaf tea sold by the oz that all sounded lovely. I think this is a great neighborhood place!

This is a cool little place to get your coffees and exotic teas. I have yet to find my perfect black tea here but I’ll keep sampling in the meantime. It must be in ONE of those containers. The little Asian lady is extremely friendly and helpful. It’s so nice that a place like this can exist and survive in the neighborhood.

Shopping at PS Coffee Tea N Spices is just like going on a treasure hunt. I wondering if the store owner ever able to do an accurate inventory of every single item that this store carries. This place is just full of merchandise that I even afraid to knock things over if I don’t be extra careful. Of course you can find most of the spices you ever need for your kitchen and more. And the idea of support small local business and able to buy in small quantities is a win win situation. Definitely drop by PS Coffee Tea N Spices if you are in the neighbourhood!

This store is brilliant. They have all of the best tea, coffee, and spices. As the name would predictably suggest. Buying in bulk = cheaper, plus supporting local business! Total win. The owner is really friendly and knowledgeable as well. I can’t recommend it enough. Cash only.

First, it’s CASHONLY up in this little tea-coffee-spice emporium. Just so you know, and you don’t go all crazy-crazy picking out millions of spicy things and then realize you only have a $ 5 bill or something. You’ll need to hit the ATM. You’ll want to hit the ATM. Trust. Now, I’m a long devoted coffee drinker, a recent lover of teas and a person that believes that spices are confusing. They ARE confusing! I just roasted a whole chicken with the rosemary from this shop($ 1.75 for a fresh bag!) and my entire apartment smelled like roasted Christmas trees. Ooops, too much. Not PS’ fault, obviously. ANYWAY. If you are in the game of local gifting and have a tea or coffee drinker(or cook!) on your list, this is a spot to hit. Definitely some wonderful items to round out a gift basket up in here. Like other reviews mention, definitely ask the owner for help/advice if you need help finding something or need a recommendation. She’s super friendly and will help you find what you are looking for, even if you didn’t know you were looking for, and even if you might never be able to find it in this hodgey-podgey little outpost. My haul? Well, a box of Yerba Mate teas(trying to scale back on coffee), a jar of raw natural honey from Colorado mountain tops(or something) and the infamous bag of rosemary. Set me back about $ 16, but already well worth it. I’ll be bringing my boyfriend back here. He understands the spices better and I can have fun with the coffee items, dreaming about ways to buzz myself up. mmmm. *cash only!

Back in 2007 when I was a cupcake recipe tester for«Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World» I engaged in many a message board discussion in search of what is apparently the most elusive ingredient of all time: black cocoa powder. Now I’m normally of the mindset that if a spice/herb/baking ingredient can’t be found in Toronto, among the most ethnically diverse metropolises in the world, it probably doesn’t exist. However, these message board folk(I’m talking about them as if they’re mystical shaman here) assured me that black cocoa powder could be had in Brooklyn, in fact, in Park Slope to be exact at PS Coffee Tea N Spices(it just occurred to me now that the PS stands for Park Slope, duh). The cocoa powder was intended to create the blackest cupcakes ever to make Fauxstess Cupcakes(like Hostess Snack Cupcakes, only vegan). For about a year I begged every person I knew who was Brooklyn-bound to pick up some magical cocoa powder for me, but no one was able to comply. I finally planned a pilgrimage out to the store myself to pick it up and wow was I ever satisfied to check this item off my evergrowing list of things to acquire. The store shelves are bursting with … well … coffee, tea and spices and it’s kind of overwhelming to search for things on your own because it’s a bit haphazard, but the owner knows where everything is thanks to a combination of Where’s Waldo trickery and photographic memory. As she served up a huge amount of the ebony powder and rang it up(only $ 5!) she told me that she special orders it from some Amish family in rural Pennsylvania. While I was in the store I heard her have several conversations with other customers in which she told them she could special order anything they needed — what a friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable shop owner!
