Decided to try here as it is a 30 second walk from my office. I used their online ordering system to place an order for steak with onions and 2 complementary sides of yellow rice and fries. I was told to pick up after 20 minutes, but the food was already ready for me when I arrived 15 minutes after ordering. Yay for fast service! I worried that they had forgotten to include sauces for my steak and fries, but when I opened the bag I saw that they had given me generous amounts of ketchup and their special, slightly spicy green sauce. The food wasn’t anything particularly special. I did like how thin and non-chewy the steak was, and I also did appreciate the onion’s thickness, but otherwise, the dish was just as you would expect a dish of steak + onions + yellow rice + fries to be. Not anything less, and not anything more. The portions are generous though, so even though you are paying $ 10 for a basic meal you can cook at home for less, you’ll at least feel satisfied and full. I will be back though, to try their famous pernil dish:)

I’ve only ever gotten delivery from here but I really like this place. Food comes when they say it will and is always hot. I come from a Puerto Rican family so I basically can’t resist pernil every time I see it on a menu(which thankfully isn’t often-it’s pork so it’s bad for you)-anywaaaay, I always order the pernil with yellow rice, platanos maduros(these are sweet but they have salty ones-tostones-as well) and a side of avocado… it’s great here! Everything tastes fresh and well seasoned. They also have Cuban classics like ropa vieja here which I hear is very good. Overall, this is some good comfort food done in a Hispano-Cuban style-I probably order from here once a month and love it!

Deliciously great cuban food at Sophies Cuban Cuisine. I have been to two so far and each is great.

Stopped in for a quick, inexpensive Cuban sandwich and had a delightful experience. The sandwich was delicious and came out very quickly, and the fried plantains were huge and great. The server and all of the staff were super nice and helpful, and the price was very reasonable. Great place for a quick bite to eat

Lapin loves this place. Every single time he is in the area, he somehow or another ends up with a bag full of food from this store. He loves the pernil with rice and beans. I have tried a couple of things from here and I prefer the empanadas with tons of green sauce. While, this is a favorite place of our to stop for a snack or dinner, the service is always lacking. The waiters and servers are almost always rude and so cheap with the green sauce. Seriously, if I order fried chicken with rice and beans and three empanada, one little tub of green sauce is not going to do. If buy the green sauce separately, they give you in a foam cup(the price always changes) which spills before you even leave.

I haven’t had a full meal here, just the empanadas and I love them. They are stuffed with flavor and meat. Both the beef and chicken empanadas were tasty. Please be sure to taste the green sauce, it has a good spice in it.

The empanadas were good the chicken much better than the beef. My first visit here the staff were a bit blah when asking for their opinions and not outgoing but the chicken empanadas and green sauce made up for it. Haven’t tried anything else yet but I’ll be back for that green sauce it’s insanely good.

I feel mixed about my experiences at Sophie’s Cuban. Five stars: really fast delivery, inexpensive, massive portions, the green sauce served on the side is ADDICTIVE, the maduros(sweet plantains) were excellent, and the ropa vieja entrée was incredibly flavorful. However, the other entrees I have tried in the past were not nearly as good. The pernil was watery and bland. It doesn’t come with any crispy skin, it’s just the pulled meat. Not a huge fan. I’ve also had the shrimp in garlic sauce. The sauce is good but the shrimp were tiny, overcooked, and chewy. The side salad was lacking too, and was a bowl of watery lettuce. Don’t get me wrong — for some inexpensive, quick Cuban food and piled plates of rice and beans… this place hits the spot. But I would stick to the ropa vieja in the future.

Pretty neat place with good food, at least from what I ate. I had a turkey sandwich and one chicken and beef empanadas. The turkey sandwich is pretty good. Having empanadas for the first time I definitely liked the chicken empanada. I wasn’t a fan of the beef because they put green olives in it. I also loved the green sauce that they give you. It’s spicy and sweet, awesome for the sandwich or the empanadas.

I order lunch here frequently. I get the shrimp with garlic sauce with yellow rice, yum! The green sauce is amazing and delivery is always speedy. Five stars if the pernil had some skin.

Food was great. Ordered to go from the buffet. The maduros are a must. Thought it was pricey but the amount was pretty big so indeed it deserves only one $.

Whenever you order food on a rainy night you expect the delivery to take forever and this was definitely not the case. I was pleasantly surprised when my food arrived so quickly. I had the shrimp with rice and beans. It was really tasty but some of the shrimp had the dreaded black line in it still. My bf had the pork and it was delicious. If you are looking for some quick Cuban food this place is definitely worth a shot. I would most likely go with the pork the next time we order from this spot.

I have not had Cuban cuisine as often, but Sophie’s came highly recommended by my colleagues. I ordered an entrée, which comes with sides for $ 10.99. The breaded chicken was a huge, satisfactory piece along with green salad and fried green plantain. I was definitely impressed by the rich flavors of my meal. I definitely applaud their efficient delivery.

I first became acquainted with empanadas through Colombian joints. On a recent trip to Miami, I discovered the Cuban empanadas and ever since I’ve been on a quest to find Cuban empanadas: not Argentinian, not effin’ Colombian, but Cuban. You know? Castro, the embargo… yada yada yada. This Sophie’s is conveniently located walking distance from where I live, and while I have never eaten on site, I normally have food delivered to me. 1. They never messed up an order. 2. Food is filling, hearty and great. 3. Picadillo, is made like a picadillo should be made. 4. The soups have big whole chunks of meat. Other places are stingy with the meat and fill their soups and plates with crap loads of rice or yuka or potatos. Sophie doesn’t do that shit. They have meat, no fluff or cheap tricks. 5. Croquetas and empanadas are my favorite for a «just right» breakfast. The empanadas are filled with picadillo, which is meat and olives in a beef broth condiment, all enveloped in a perfectly crunchy non greasy crust.

The rice and beans are delicious. As are the empanadas(beef and veggie are my faves). The maduros aren’t syrupy sweet and cooked perfect and the aji verde is AMAZING and packs a lot of heat. The soup is a little salty and I find them to be a little pricey, but very good. Service also turns to sh*t during lunch time. Everyone behind the counter is preparing delivery orders and there’s often a bit of a wait. Great overall!

I’ve loved Cuban food ever since I first tried it when I attended college in FL. I’ve been reluctant to try any Cuban places in the city because I’m afraid it won’t measure up the Cuban food I’ve had in FL. This place is pretty up there. I tried the roast pork with yellow rice and sweet plantains. Everything was flavorful. I was extremely impressed with the rice. It seemed like either they put some of the juice from the pork onto the rice or it must’ve just flowed over because the rice was really flavorful. The pork was tender. And the plantains were soft and sweet. Definitely very comparable to the place I went to in FL. Service was great too. Everyone was polite. It was one of those quick dining experiences but even then, I was given full attention by several servers. A little pricey but it’s NY so I can’t really complain. At least they were generous with the portions.

I have the same emotional response to Cuban sandwiches as many people have to pizza. There’s no such thing as a bad slice/sandwich. Sophie’s is a chain, it serves up mounds of greasy pork and densely packed sammies. If you are a bear of a man or would like to buy three days worth of food at once– it’s an economical greasy spoon. Not a choice for a «light» lunch. Expect a line in the middle of the day. I go Cuban with extra pickles. Cheese on ham on ham. It’s not the best Cuban: They can be a tad chintzy on the cheese and I slather extra pickles on, but it’s an alright Cuban. You will undeniably feel slightly ill once you scarf it down but it does the trick without having to travel to a Cuban neighborhood somewhere in Union, New Jersey.
