Surprisingly a tourist trap(or maybe unsurprisingly). Awful awful awful. Rice was totally f’ed up. Seaweed may as well been bubble gum. I’m astonished by the reviews. Clearly people that never eat sushi go here. Chefs should be ashamed.

Delicious! Authentic Japanese and so fresh. Great prices too. Pro — can’t wait to order takeout the sushi was that good — simple japanese layout to restaurant — friendly staff — good deal for pitcher of beer on tap Cons — more lit up than other Japanese restaurants so not my ideal date night

Most bullshit chirashi lunch. 2 pc tomago, 2 pic mock crab, 1 yellowtail, 1 salmon, 1 octopus, 1 tuna. In other words you get half real food lol no thank you. I will go elsewhere. Throughout Bk you can get 10pc or 12 of for same price with no fake stuff

I’ve been coming here for awhile now and I must say that my King loves coming here. One of our favourite places to eat. Their house Sake is The best. Their service is excellent. I was surprised them remembering what we ate the last time eating there. Service like that, shows they pay attention to detail and their customers.

It was our second choice as the place we wanted to try was closed down. All in all it was ok but I am not a fan of cold edamame! It might have gotten a better rating if not for that! Oh and the green tea was rather weak!

Boo. Really disappointing. We ordered a nice variety of rolls and none were particularly great. The fish to rice ratio was disappointing and much of it didn’t taste particularly fresh. The TOKUJYOMAKI was the greatest disappointment: it was the reason we chose to order from Taro and it really missed the mark. Virtually invisible portion of toro and the uni was gross. I LOVE uni and this was not the fresh, heavenly foie gras of the sea that I’ve come to expect from the best uni sources. This was fishy, slimy… blech. They were also extremely ungenerous with the ginger. Two dime bags worth of ginger for 5 rolls? Puh-lease. Nope, we will not order from Taro again. Real disappointment.

wow, Unilocal always comes through for me — except when it comes to Sushi how this place has 4 stars — i have no idea walked in on a weekday for lunch — there was a father and daughter eating at the counter, that’s it however, the sushi chefs seemed like i was a nuisance walking in the door, maybe they had a rough night, but they were extremely grumpy i don’t mind any of that — except spending close to $ 70 for omakase(+ 1 beer and tax tip)… to only leave having fishy taste in my mouth and fishy burps for hours to come this place is gross — i would never go back there i really do think Unilocal needs to start having different ratings formulae for Sushi Click here if you only eat California Rolls… Click here if you know the difference between Unagi and Anago and then weigh the ratings from the two above categories very differently…

Really fantastic, we’ll priced sushi! I’ve walked by Taro for years and never stopped in until last night and was shocked to find its by far the best sushi I’ve had in Brooklyn. From the live oyster to the chef’s special appetizer to the various rolls I had, they were all extremely fresh and tender. I can’t wait to go back.

TARODOESTAKERESERVATIONS and I would recommend getting one! Everything I ate here was delicious. I had the Spicy Alaska Roll and Tuna/Cucumber roll as well as the Tempura Tofu appetizer. The produce(cucumber, avocado) in the rolls was extremely fresh, and everything was seasoned very well. I especially loved the Alaska roll; it was just spicy enough to have a nice kick but not be overwhelming. I also tried the asparagus tempura roll and was pleasantly surprised by how well the flavor and textures worked together. The only qualm I had was the wait for our food(wasn’t terrible but still could have been a little speedier), but I would definitely recommend Taro anyone in the area!

This is a great place for a date, small group, or by yourself. i saw a lot of people ask for single seats at the bar. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night and there was a short 5 – 10 min wait. We started off with amazing appetizers. We got the monkfish pâté, tuna tartare, and the sashimi sampler. All three were amazing. The tuna tartare had a small quail egg which was the perfect touch. The sashimi sample had some of the most delicious raw scallops I have ever had. They looked like scallops, but in my mouth they were a creamy buttery texture and I couldn’t believe it. We ordered a few sushi rolls which were good but not as stand out as the appetizers. The service was fantastic, fast, and attentive. I would definitely go again just to try all the apps and maybe some hand rolls. People mention the price a lot. Here is my take. For the quality of sushi that is being made here it is a bargain. However, this is not the place to gorge yourself on rolls. You can do that for cheap elsewhere. This is the place to try something new and savour the new combination of flavors that the chef’s have created. And, you don’t have to worry about dressing up, traveling too far, or waiting hours for a table.

Wow, Flatbush has certainly changed drastically in the recent couple of years! I would have never imagined a well decorated sushi restaurant like Taro Sushi to be on Flatbush Avenue. I’d have to say that I have had the best California roll at Taro Sushi. The rolls were packed with a good thick slide of perfectly ripped avocado and wrapped in sushi rice made right! The uni special that Unilocalers raved about is a must try as well; although the Californian uni had a bit of a stench. My other favorite is the toro tartare, or fatty tuna tartare as it brings out a Western flair with a quail egg. Prices are moderate, but not as cheap one would imagine for a location in the middle of Flatbush, Brooklyn. However, for the quality of the rolls, the prices are very reasonable. Service here is also friendly. I’ll be back soon if I’m ever in Flatbush again!

One of the best places in brooklyn for sushi. Their prices are reasonable. And gosh, their food is so fresh, whether it be the fish, the uni or the oysters. They have fatty tuna on the menu almost everyday. But im not normally a big fan of tuna, so here’s my list of must tries: — kumamoto oysters: fresh! Seasoned well! And limited daily so come early or call ahead if youre planning to have them. — uni appetizer: hands down the best uni ive ever had. They give one portion of maine uni and one portion of california uni. It’s always so good i cant decide whch one is better. But keep in mind that uni is an acquired taste to begin with. — hand rolls: i just love their rice and fresh seaweed. It’s served right aftr it’s made from the bar, so there’s a good crunch from the seaweed n the rice is still warm. I normally get the spicy scallop cuz it’s simply delicious. Regardless, it wont come limp and soggy in your hands. — need more ideas? I would try their hamachi lover set or the salmon lover set. Trust me, im a regular here.

Go here! I think hands down best sushi in this area!!! Amazing quality every time. We usually get a la carte sushi you cannot get at one of those«americanized» sushi places. We love their specials and uni here is fantastic! If you are a sushi lover and aren’t afraid to try something other than Philadelphia roll this place is for you! Just thinking about this place makes my mouth watery… Yum!

Solid. Not the best ever but I think that’s my fault for not being more adventurous. True, the prices are reasonable for quality sushi in Park Slope, but if you want to spend less than $ 15 on takeout your options aren’t all that fancy. Got a tofu teriyaki box. It came with miso soup, some white rice, and steamed vegetables. It came in that thick brown Asian teriyaki sauce which defeated the purpose of eating tofu and vegetables. Much too heavy for what I thought would be a lighter meal. But, again, my fault for not ordering it on the side. Also had the eel roll with avocado. Again, it was tasty, but I’d recommend going bigger for their special rolls. Spent $ 17 and filled up. Will come back to try other things.

We checked out Taro Sushi on a Saturday evening and were very happy with our experience there. The staff sat us immediately and were attentive throughout. We ordered the gyoza(steamed pork dumpling) to start and then three rolls to share. My favorite was the mountain roll which was stacked vertically(to look like a mountain I think?) and composed of spicy tuna, avocado, and yellowtail. The Karen roll(shrimp tempura topped with spicy tuna and avocado) was also delicious. For the price we were very satisfied with the quality of food we received. Definitely the best bargain on sushi we have found in the area so far. They have some good looking lunch specials which we will plan to try next time we can come during the day! A perfect place to grab a bite before heading to an event at Barclays!

Great lunch special for the area. Good selection of fresh sushi and hot entrees. Will be sure to add this to my list of regular spots. Plenty of seating during the lunch hour rush. Quick service!

I really enjoyed the nigiri Omakase, although I was a bit confused about the difefrence between the itamae Omakease(12 pieces) and the Edomae nigiri(9 pieces) other than the quantity…, so… I went with the Itamae. I enjoyed the snapper, the hamachi, the Aji and the Chu-Toro. Top notch, friendly service and a decent value. I was satisfied and happy I finally stumbled into Taro after trying to numerous random times. If you are not into simplicity like I am, there is an extensive menu. I approve and recommend based on the high quality expectations they obviously strive to achieve.

I love everything about Taro. I’m a huge fan of sushi and Taro always satisfies my taste buds! Service is also A++ great for the kids, large groups, lunch specials and more. Their saki is also delicious hot or cold! I’d recommend anyone living or visiting downtown Brooklyn to give Taro a try!

This has to be my favorite sushi restaurant for its price and quality. It’s very casual and a lot of families come here. I had a piece of uni sushi(sea urchin) for($ 5.50) a piece and the sushi & sashimi combo that comes with 6pcs sushi, 8pcs sashimi and California Roll for($ 22). I was full from the food. It was the right amount. But the sashimi pieces could be a little thicker. It was a little thin. The fish is very fresh, soft, and delicate to the taste buds. The temperature of the fish and rice was just right. I love uni and the uni was awesome. Just love that creamy unique taste.

Mal servicio, poco amable y poca explicación de los platos, el sushi bastante simple, pocas combinaciones, muy japonés, la seaweed salad muy rica.

Beautiful fatty rich cuts of toro, melt-in-your-mouth uni, decent price, great find, all mine! I didn’t want to share my toro or my uni. But share I must. We ordered the Edomae NIGIRI omakase, chu toro, tuna lover set and a bowl of udon. It was an exciting time for me, because as a teen– I have tried salmon roe multiple multiple times. And found it disgusting: fishy, salty, sticky and horrible. Sushi, sashimi, uni, I will eat, but never roe. This disgust rolled over into my adult life. And when I had salmon roe in the omakase, the taste was clean, neat, not fishy, slightly sweet and salty. I appreciate being able to experience a old food in a great way. And we had three pieces of either medium fatty or fatty toro in our meal! Jackpot! My husband and I literally split this into 1.5 bites per person. Not civilized but ensured deliciousness and no jealousy. The uni was perfect– creamy, briny, super fresh. Loved it. Loved the taste, loved the company, loved the service.
