Wasan was a tale of 2 experiences. The food is excellent! Easily some of the best sushi I have had outside Manhattan. The presentation was very nice without being over the top. Unfortunately what soured us on Wasan was the service. Everything was very slow — they seemed to be understaffed. One table near us was left uncleared for about a half-hour. It hit rock bottom when, 20 minutes after clearing away our entrée plates, we still had not been served our desert. We had a show to get to so had to leave without ever getting what we ordered(even though we had told them our desert order at the start when we each selected a prix fixe option). Our check was discounted…$ 3…total. For the price I expect better service.

Astonishingly beautiful food in a wonderfully serene setting. Great value brunch and set lunches. Truly Japanese customer service.

Great food, clean spot, and wonderful service. Food here is great-a mix of traditional and creative Japanese cuisine. out server was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. The place is small but very clean. I will definitely be returning!

This is for a seamless delivery order. I loved my Tonkatsu ramen. The broth was thick and flavorful and the noodles were chewy. My husband ordered the shoyu ramen with the pork and soy sauce broth and it was horrible. I tasted it and the broth tasted like urine. I gave four stars based on the fast delivery, the fact that the food was still hot, and the tastiness of my ramen. I highly suggest against the shoyu ramen. It was so bad my husband actually ordered something else from a different restaurant. He’s not a picky eater, either.

I’ve only had the vegan ramen, but the broth is good and it is surprisingly filling. I can recommend this dish to all the vegans out there.

The service here is excellent and the food is delicious and a bargain! On weekend mornings you can get brunch for $ 13 that includes a fish entrée, various small plates of vegetables, pickles, and egg, and miso soup. For an extra $ 3 you can get three pieces of sashimi over rice with crunch and sauce. The quality of the food is incredible. Really good fish. The entrees are interesting and a bit different than you find at most Japanese restaurants. There is never a wait for this place, despite how good it is and how reasonably priced. I highly recommend it!

Stumbled into this place as if it appeared like a mirage. I’m still not positive it actually exists but it was simply amazing. All of the food was so fresh and prepared with great care. SOCHEAP for the quality of food. Not to be that guy but I lived in Japan for a few years and this is the best Japanese place I’ve been to since returning three years ago. And believe me I’ve looked.

Came here for dinner last night and legitimately am ordering delivery for dinner tonight. Had been meaning to try this place for awhile as we walk by on our way to get doughnut plant(which happens more frequently than I would like to admit). The décor is minimal, and it’s a pretty small place, but we were seated right away during prime time Saturday night and were excited to give it a shot. The first thing they did was bring out their home made house soy sauce and spicy soy sauce, which both smelled amazing. Apparently getting good soy sauce is tough(so my husband says) so I was easily impressed. I liked that they listed their vegetarian friendly menu on one side nice and easy for me to decide what to order. I went with a veggie ramen as I’m always looking for tasty vegetarian ramen options, usually it’s disappointing and I end up with watery boring broth. This came out in a huge bowl with tons of fresh perfectly cooked veggies. Had a flavorful well rounded soy based broth and amazing noodles, It really hit the spot. Hubs had some sashimi and the presentation was really nice. He said the fish was all incredibly fresh and delicious. He also tried the fried chicken and said it was fantastic. They have a great three course $ 30 menu option, and reasonably priced tasting menu. Their desserts look unique and delicious and I can’t wait to get back to try them. Great spot– stoked they deliver

Best Japanese izakaya spot we had in NYC so far. Superb quality and amazingly value. This place has become our top recommend to friends who ask for Japanese fare in NYC. Recommend the pork ribs, all sushi rolls(amazing!), and the tasting menu.

To start, Wasan has an extensive selection of sakes with an informative menu noting the type of sake and describing some of the flavors. You can buy a shot, a carafe(the equivalent of about four shots), or a bottle. I had the Shintaro sake which has hints of cantaloupe. For dinner, I had the Shoyu ramen which has a broth based with pork and soy. The broth was delicious. It had a great balance of saltiness and savoriness. The noodles were cooked well too. There was only one waitress, yet her service was very good. She was attentive and the food was served quick. I disliked the bathrooms. There was only one bathroom stall for all customers. The sink was small, and the faucet was low which made it inconvenient to wash my hands.

We had a wonderful Valentines Day dinner her the other night. We ordered the prix fixe menu and everything was delicious. My boyfriend especially enjoyed the fois gras sushi. The shrimp in our salad was cooked perfectly and the sashimi was fresh, mild, and perfectly tender. My boyfriend loved his mochi crêpe dessert and my yuzu sorbet was refreshing and delicious. We will definitely be coming back to try some other options from the regular menu.

Was just there on Friday Feb 5th and it was not a good experience. Tried a few of the top dished like the fois gras and the uni as well as the stone grilled sirloin. The food was mediocre at best. The service was terribly slow, so slow that we waited over 5 minutes just for chopsticks and napkins and that was AFTER our dishes were served. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, maybe somebody called out. Maybe I’ll go there again someday and if it’s better I’ll change my review but for now, I stand by this.

Unassuming, authentic Wasan has beckoned me in for awhile. It sits on Bergen off Fifth. In a spot often overlooked. A $ 13 brunch/lunch set is a delicious deal. Ate: Salmon saikyo Miso Tomato croquette Brown rice $ 1 extra Mini cabbage A lovely lunch set. The tomato croquette was the surprise– Japanese potato salad wrapped in tomatoes & fried within batter. Quiet, value, delicious for brunch/lunch.

Simply amazing and authentic Japanese restaurant tucked away in Park Slope. There’s a Wasan in East Village, but the Brooklyn location is fairly new and empty(at least for brunch) whenever I walk by. I ordered the weekly fish special with mackerel, and it was a substantial amount of food for $ 16(usually $ 15, but I opted for brown rice vs. white). My fiancé had the tonkatsu ramen and 2 buns for $ 15, which is kind of a steal. Ramen alone is usually $ 15+ at fancy-pants Manhattan joints. The buns were incredible! The eel & avocado was my favorite. We also got the unagi pie, and it did not disappoint. Wasan may not generate as much buzz as other Japanese restaurants in the area, but it’s up there with the best of them and has a truly unique and decently-priced menu at that. Our server was so sweet and friendly and even offered us tea at the end of the meal.

I’ve only tried this place once, but plan to check back to confirm and try some new dishes. The food here was great, seasonal tempura appetizer was on point, and not greasy. The pickles were delicious, and my dining companion and I also shared the pumpkin and crab croquettes, which were hot, tasty and interesting. Fish quality of the sushi was great, and the combo we ordered even had uni in it. Yum! The downsides: the price was high for the amount of food, but I’m willing to pay for quality ingredients. Also, the service was a bit slow. We came on a Thursday night, and the place was not super crowded, but tables filled up. Our appetizers came in pleasant succession, and then when we tried to order another round of drinks, we could not catch the one waiter’s eye. Meanwhile the bartender(?) was standing around chatting. Then there was a pause of more than 35 minutes! between our appetizers and entrees. Unclear if this was due to the kitchen or the service or both. But needs some working out. What I don’t understand, is every time I walk by here, this place is empty. Park slope clearly has the money for this kind of food, and certainly there is no other Japanese that comes anywhere close near by. Hoping it stays open so I can get my fix for excellent quality fish when necessary! One last issue, there was, seated next to us at 8:30pm, a small toddler. While I don’t have a problem with children in restaurants generally, when they start yelling loudly and banging the table, it might be time for bed. Yet this party lingered and let their(perhaps too tired) companion continue to yell in the otherwise quiet restaurant. It really ruined the atmosphere.

Wasan is an amazing restaurant! We ate here and our minds were blown! Don’t be fooled by the décor in the new location. They are working on that. This place is a top notch restaurant that can compete with any of the most expensive places in New York. The Kobe Beef sushi is definitely a high point. It may have been the most tender beef I’ve ever had. You won’t believe it until you try it! The foie gras sushi was also very good! Eat here and experience a very creative approach to Japanese food!

my favorite Japanese restaurant in New York, and one of my top 3 favorite places in the city. Well priced, everything is equally thought out and deliciously well executed. The staff is always friendly. I just went last night, and I wish I was going again today…

It’s nice to see that between this place and Katsuei, park slope is getting some legit japanese restaurants. This place is great. Like the reviewers before me, the dishes are creative and delicious. The waitress we had was fantanstic, super nice. We tried the sashimi, uni, foie gras sushi, Wagyu beef sushi, unagi pie, and the mochi crêpe. I’d love to try to be informative and suggest one or two of these things, but honestly… they were all basically flawless. Even the black bean tea was a solid addition — a bit different tasting and it worked really well with the meal. We did find the place to be weirdly empty for a saturday night given the quality and caliber of the restaurant. With the atlantic avenue area blowing up fast I suggest you catch this place before it’s difficult to get in!

I had a beautiful meal here. We started with the Foie Gras sushi. Smooth, creamy, melt in your mouth without a hint of liver. The Unagi Pie was so good that we ordered it twice. A generous slice of unagi on top of avocado and a light(rice?) pastry. Finished off with the Mochi Crêpe and cups of black bean tea that paired perfectly with the sweet glutinous crêpe and luscious crème filling. Definitely coming back.
