Decent food, casual atmosphere. Price is acceptable but still more or less expensive.

Decent place for sushi near the office. Fish is of good quality and service is great. Always. So it’s a convenient spot for me.

A little disappointed my food that I ate ended up tasting a little weird and for a reason. The next morning I was in the bathroom the whole day… You could guess what happened yea… first time I’ve had I guess you could call it food poisoning here, usually I don’t have a problem here and the food is good but this time no Bueno.

This place let us in before their official opening hours and the staff was incredibly sweet. I had the toro-toro roll; SERIOUSLY if you love yourself get it. It is SO good and the sauce is crazy good. I’ve never had one like it before. The prices are a little expensive, but the ambiance and the décor of the place is clean and refreshing. Highly recommend!

The food is good but the service is horrible. The hispanic cashier who worked there a long time is so rude and has a real bad attitude. When he takes order from the phone he gets irritated for getting orders. Can you believe that? He doesn’t know anything about service and he is the guy in the front. I lived about 10 minutes away from the restaurant and because of him I will never go that restaurant again.

The manager Arnold is extremely rude, and for that reason we wont be going back. Nikki the server was so embarrassed by both his behavior and the sushi chefs attitude, but she was a doll and handled everything… i don’t often write a review but the owner should know how rude his workers are. DON’T GOTOTHISSUSHIBAR!!! unless you want to be ripped off!!!

After reading mixed reviews on Unilocal,we decided to try this place out. The ambiance is very simple. The fish was fresh, but the service is clearly an issue and can ruin the overall dining experience. Also, be careful with MP menu items — we ended up paying $ 50 for two orders of Uni Sashimi.

I wasn’t a well-informed sushi eater, having only been to one other true sushi restaurant prior to Hanami’s, and I have to say, this place made me a serious sushi fan and blew the other place out of the water! I went with a large group(10 people), so we were able to sample a LOT of the menu, ordering pretty much every appetizer, roll, and dessert they had to offer, and I genuinely cannot think of a single item that I sampled that wasn’t good. The one item that does stand out in particular to me was the Hawaiian roll… my friend ordered it and let me try it, and I basically ended up eating her entire order! The wait staff was so kind and gracious to us, especially with our group, which I know was a lot to handle. That, coupled with the fact that literally everything on a menu was good, I can’t recommend this place enough. I will jump at the opportunity to go back!

Hanami is a good, solid sushi place. I would recommend going for lunch, since they have good deals on bento boxes that you can customize and also come with soup and salad. Some of the sushi is a little expensive-around $ 10+ for specialty rolls. If you’re just looking for quick sushi, you could probably go next door to Albertson’s to save a few dollars. However, the rolls are good, and some classics like Philadelphia or Eel & Avocado are less than $ 10. Service is always quick.

It was a Sunday night and I was tired of pizza hut’s half off football deal. I decided to take my girlfriend to our other favorite sushi spot… They close on Sunday’s. I had never eaten at hanami, but figured we would give it a shot. We were desperate for fresh fish! Richard made us some of the freshest, tastiest sushi we’ve had in a long time. They have an extensive list of fresh seafood that gets flown over from Japan(unique stuff). We ended up almost making ourselves sick attempting to try as much sushi as this place has to offer. I really recommend this place

Really amazing sushi for the Valley. They tend to have bad taste out here, so this is actually good, almost as good as the sushi you would get in civilization.

Sushi is fair. The staff is rude, especially the main sushi chef in the corner. You can go every night and he can’t muster up courtesy. The whole staff needs a charisma bypass.

This place is fantastic! Don’t be fooled by the location(next to Albertsons) this place is 5 star sushi. The chili garlic roll is so good, there garlic edamame too. Quaint little sushi place that is the best for miles around. I’ve tried a lot of other places within a 10 mile radius, this place is #1. No complaints here.

Hanami is great! If you are in Calabasas I recommend it. There is lots of seating and a long bar. If you go for lunch, try to get here about 11:30 otherwise, you will have to wait. The truffle oil edamame was delish! It has seared garlic and just tastes really good. The fish and rolls were great too. Service was ok, slower than I would like. If you have any allergies, make sure you tell them as they throw alot of extra stuff on the plates that you noramlly would not see at a sushi place.

Coming here is always a treat! Their specials are actually special! I loved the July special with the sashimi salad, miso soup, 3 nigiri and yellow tail rolls! for ~$ 21. My poor friend doesn’t eat sushi but kept me company to this place. He had a great time eating off the appetizer menu(even if it was pricey). I can’t wait to come back to this place, delicious food, great sake and great service, what else would I want?!

I hate to do this because for a local Resturant in Calabasas, the quality of their fish is so good but their service is slacking in a big way! Basically everyone on this side of the sushi bar, with the exception of Arnold and the short Latino bus boy, is just useless and they don’t look like they belong in this restaurant. Unfortunately the Korean owner(yes he’s Korean) is content with the volume of business that he’s doing and doesn’t understand that as he’s losing standing in the local market, his direct competitor Nishi Sushi is getting more stars and accolades from Unilocal reviews. This is not good for Hanami on a long term basis and unless they start going back to the service fundamentals they once had when they were new in the market, they’ll eventually lose most if not all of their higher end patrons to Nishi Sushi. Are you listening? Wise up and provide better service from your wait staff. Your only«hustlers» are Arnold and the short Latino busboy. Everyone else is pretty much useless.

Before I get to the food, which was actually pretty good, let me qualify that our initial interaction is why i’m docking this place… We had a group of 8 and someone in our party accidentally said 7, so we had a table set for 7 and told them right away. He said he didn’t have a table for 8 and I said if they can split us up into two 4s it would be fine; there were 4 tables of 4 available and one one small group behind us. It wasn’t the end of the world, but the server made it seem like it was the biggest inconvenience that we had to get re-seated. I’m not sure about you guys but even if you’re busy, I believe that you still need to be courteous to your consumers, and in this case, I definitely did NOT get that courtesy and warmth. So on to the food… Had the unagi bowl, came with miso soup for 12.95. Food came out pretty quick. Tasted pretty fresh, and I was satisfied. Enjoyed the mini cucumbers that came with my meal too. Colleagues all had various combination plates(~$ 10) and they all really enjoyed it. Parking in this plaza, which is shared by several restaurants and an albertsons is quite difficult, esp if you wanna park close to the restaurant. If you wanna walk, you can park by mcd’s and make a short 1 min trek. Totally up to you. So decent fare but not worth be parking hassle and initial customer service, at least at lunch. Maybe off-peak. Granted, the rest of our service was okay; our server checked on us often and made sure we were okay, but first impressions are lasting with me… that’s just me tho.

Just moved out to Calabasas and have been pining for The Izakaya by Katsuya where i used to go for good sushi. My fiancé discovered this unlikely gem and we gave it a try, all the while expecting second best. But that was not the case at all. This place is almost as cozy as Izakaya, but the variety of special sushi fare cannot be beat! I don’t know if it’s because of how they advertise their specials(on a large chalkboard beside the sushi bar, which I often sit at so i can chat with the chefs) but every time I walk in here i feel obligated to eat something weird. Sea urchin and Red Dragon roll are my new favorite. Be careful tho, the specials and specialties are usually more expensive. They add up quick. Sea urchin is almost $ 20 per serving(2 pieces). Still, it’s, on average, less expensive than Izakaya so i get to eat more here for the same price as what moderate would cost in Manhattan Beach(that’s apparently a «you’re no longer in LA, so everything is cheaper» thing). Needless to say, this is my new go-to place for sushi. Haven’t really tried much else except the seafood miso, which I recommend if u want an elevated miso that doesn’t leave u feeling like u simply drank 2 cups of salt water.

Came here on a Thursday night with a friend for dinner around 7 pm. The atmosphere was nice and a good sized sushi bar. We opted for table seats. Decently filled for a week night. Best part is ample parking because it is in a shopping center. I ordered the sautéed mushrooms and they were extremely salty. Also a little too dry for my liking. Also got the shitake albacore roll. The fish looked a little yellow for albacore, but it tasted fresh. I also ordered the rice cake with spicy tuna. The rice cake was so warm that it seared the spicy tuna on top and made the raw fish too chewy. I also thought the rice cake was overly fried which made it really hard to bite into. I probably will only come back if I’m craving sushi and every other sushi restaurant nearby is full.
