Greater Nevada Credit Union

This credit union makes me sad. I’ve been a member for around 8 years now, and have watched it slowly decline and go down hill since. It started out as an actual credit union, now I just find its a bank with a credit union label. There is nothing real special about this credit union that stands apart from it’s banking competitors. I also do have accounts with more national banks and have much better customer service.
The branch staff is usually pretty good and knowledgeable, I think the biggest problems are coming from the top and trickling down to it’s members. Shame on you GNCU, your members needs, and services should be priority, you have turned greedy and are no longer about the community.

I’m updating my review for one person. There is a man in there with wild curly hair, and he provides excellent service. There is a Polish woman there as well that do their job very well. They should be recognized. I won’t give them five stars because out of every time I have been in there, those two employees are the only ones who seem to be happy to do their job. Everyone else acts like you’re bothering them with your questions. Customer service is so important in the banking/​finance world. Other than that my experiences for this branch are still not great. If it wasn’t so convenient to stop there between work and home I would never go in there again.

Great company, great all-​around… We love Cindy in loans for helping us and with such great customer service. She is always cheery and pleasant and optimistic. We really are very satisfied with this credit union and look forward to doing business with them for many years to come! THANK YOU!

Started an account there three weeks ago.
It seems on par with any bank experience I’ve had, and I love the lack of up-​selling so far. I am a little disappointed that the debit card I waited 10 business days before asking about wasn’t ordered, giving me the option of waiting another 10 days, or heading to the south Carson branch to get an instant issue card. It’ll be the drive, because 20 days for a debit card is a bit too much in my book.
Here’s hoping they can turn it around, and give me a reason to go from «meh, it’s a bank,» to «Wow! This place is awesome!»

I am updating my report regarding this matter. After posting on Unilocal,I got a call from the VP of marketing who was very helpful. Two hours later I got a call from Jenna in customer service who was able to remedy all of this and active accounts. She advised that her server had been «down,» and had just gotten the message. While I am satisfied currently with the outcome, I remain at three stars because this NEVER should have happened, the after hours call customer service, isn’t, and it should NOT take a complaint on social media to GET SOMEONE to call you back.

I want to applaud Phil and ALL his staff at the GNCU Branch Office in north Carson City. Sarah, Kristie and all the others do a fantastic job with customer service. They are all consistently prompt, helpful and professional. In fact that Branch Office of GNCU is the only reason I’m still with GNCU. Keep up the Great Job!!!

Convenient place. A lot of drive thru atm so its even more convenient so that you don’t have to get out of your car. Spacious area and building. Clean enviroment and although its closed on Sunday you can use the atms.

With the exception of being (what felt like) ignored for about 30 minutes (twice) while waiting in the Carson City lobby to talk to a banker, my experience has been amazing! I obtained an RV loan quickly and with an amazing amount of personalized support throughout the process. I needed another personal loan when my car broke down and I again received empathetic, personalized, unbelievably rapid service. Having worked in the mortgage industry for several years, I can easily and confidently say that their lending department offers first rate, personalized, friendly service and I will never go through a banking institution again. The banking side is very casual and it is hard to get attention if you wait in line and then get sent to a chair in the lobby, but once you do get attention, it’s great! The tellers are very friendly and always offer their support and other banking services in an appropriate way. It’s better than any of the three other banking institutions I deal with personally and professionally … by a LONG SHOT :)

This review is for the branch in Dayton, Nv. They are awesome, professional and so easy to work with. I have never enjoyed any banking experience as I have with them.

In the last few months, they’ve gotten better at check cashing speed– it now seems to be on par with other banks. I’ll bet if they got rid of those old coal-​fired Okidata dot matrix printers they could go even faster. Also, an open message to poor Clara C. who berated me in a private message as «sick» because I didn’t have the same crappy experience that she did with this bank and– surprisingly– another bank. It could have something to do with the fact that I’m not an asshole. Just a thought.

the worst experience with customer service i have ever had. i got a car loan through them. after purchasing the car the credit union promised to refinance my high loan rate if i made all of my car payments on time after a year. a year went by and went in to refinance and they pretty much laughed in my face stating that they would not refinance my loan. worse is that it was my first car buying experience and had them walk me through the paper work because i didn’t know what i was reading. they stated i had a 5 year loan only to later find out it was a 6 year loan. now after 5 years and paying 30,000 on a 17,000 car i lost my job and they have made promises of working with me to threatening me and harassing me about repossessing my car at 60 days late… Patty Little Chang is a terrible representation of a small bank idea in these times where banks have a bad rap anyway. My experience is more in line with Wayne’s. This is a great little credit union. Honestly, I have never had to wait in line at this location and my hold time (if there is one) is at most 2 – 3 minutes. Quick and easy. In fact I’ve never had any issues with this credit union at all, and in most cases, they’ve bent over backwards for me. For example, I sent a certified check to pay off the last of a car loan and the finance company lost it. GNCU issued me a replacement right away, helped me cancel the lost check, and got me on my way. The whole transaction took less than 5 minutes. That’s excellent service.
As for the fees mentioned in Amanda’s reviews, those are all clearly stated in the info booklet, which she should have read BEFORE starting up the account. They are also much less than most other banks charge and its easy to avoid paying any fees at all. Its hard to feel bad for someone who complains when things happen according to terms that they agreed to.
