We have been eating their calzones for 10 + years. Until now, never again! We ordered 3 regular calzones got home to eat them only to find out that they put their thick sandwich slices of ham in all of them yuck! I’m sure it is great on their sandwiches but it is terrible in their calzones. We called to let them know, had to argue with the lady who answered the phone, she kept stating that they always put ham in them, to me saying yes I know but not thick slices of Easter ham! Finally spoke with a manager who is the one who actually said they must have put sandwich ham in them accidentally and that he would give us credit for 3 calzones next time we ordered. Called in about 2 weeks after, argued with the lady again about even having a credit and then the manager also stated he never said he would give us one. Seriously done with it! We will miss the calzones we used to ordered loyally but not the terrible customer service they have now.

I was in the mood for a Chicago style pizza. After looking up the options in the area, I decided on Sam’s Pizza, not a good choice. We ordered the Special Chicago Stuffed pizza, it was huge. That was the only plus. It was caked on top with what I can only describe as overly Italian spice tomato paste. The crust was soggy, and the peppers inside were still raw. We also ordered the Cheese breadsticks, which were inedible, again too much seasoning and my god were they salty. It’s also worth noting that they’ve not updated their website in awhile. The price of my pizza and sticks, on the listed menu, should have costed $ 29.25, it said tax was included. But the final price was almost $ 10 more, $ 38. Will not try again.

Some decent pie and sandwich action here. Located in the back of Mr. B’s bar, this little place has some good grub. It’s not a trail blazing gourmet fuzion place or anything, just solid cheap pizza and hot food served in a bar setting where booze is cheap. This is, historically, a solid combination of services and it works well here. When you order you’ll do yourself a favor by not looking too closely at the state of the kitchen… it isn’t the worst I’ve seen but it’s a well-used pizza shop that needs a thorough scrubbing of all surfaces. Having personally logged many hundreds of hours doing that exact cleaning in various similar establishments over the years I can honestly say it needs a cleaning but it’s not health-code violation stuff. Food and pricing are closely matched. Toss down a cold beer and watch a game at the bar while waiting for your calzone, it’ll make it even better once it arrives.

Update! Ed F. has informed me there is a side entrance. HALLELUJAH! — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — AMAZING pizza! I’m one of the few people in the history of time that doesn’t always think pizza is a good idea. Where is it from(certain places just don’t make the cut no matter how awesome of a special they are running!)? What toppings do they offer? Do they use fresh mushrooms or canned? Is the sauce sweet or savory? …you get the idea. Of all the things in the world to be a hardass about, I pick pizza. Jeesh. Anyways, so after seeing all the rave reviews for Sam’s, and it’s only a few blocks from my humble abode, I decided to give it a try. I just went with my childhood fave: classic pepperoni. I took note that the guy on the phone was very nice. I get so irritated when the person taking the order makes you feel like you’re somehow inconveniencing them(ironically by giving them your business!). Not the case here, thankfully. Great service via phone. Loved, loved, loved the pizza. HOWEVER… 15 minutes after placing my order, off I was to 8246th St SW, the address shown on the Unilocal business profile for Sam’s Pizza. WRONG! Sam’s Pizza is now in Mr. B’s bar — allllll the way in the back. The location is the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars and quite frankly probably deserves even fewer based on this alone. Picking this pizza up was borderline sexual harassment. I had to weave through the very crowded bar with bros and dudes giving me the stare down. «Wait, this chick came to the bar ALONE?! I’m all over that shizz.» UGH. I couldn’t get out of the place fast enough. And even when I did weave back through, I still got comments from a band of smokers asking«where’s our pizza?» and that«I’d definitely share with you so why don’t you come back and chill with us». UH, no thank you please. So between that and fending off drunk line-cutters, actually retrieving said amazing pizza was less than pleasant. Would I order from Sam’s again? OHYES. Absolutely… Unfortunately there are conditionals: it would have to be before nightfall :-/
