Kona’s Sandwiches-Nord

I love this place. there are lots of choices. The pulled pork and tritrip rock, I also like the angry bird, and the veggie sandwich with cream cheese, olives and artichokes is sooo good that even I like it. Which is saying a lot because my favorite food is probably bacon!
The service is super friendly. Dave the owner works right along with everyone else, so the quality is always good. He must treat the people he works with well, because they all seem happy.

I meant to write this review a month or two ago but, anyways this place is awesome. I went in and I beleive they weren’t open for another 10 min or so to get quarters for laundry. The owner was alone in the kitchen opening and getting ready for the day all by himself…(wich is rare to see) wich to me showed he cares about his place. He was jus pulling there special for the day off the drill and danm it my mouth was watering from the smell of it. Me and the owner talked a bit back and forth telling me about the place and I told him how my girlfriend comes in and gets the veggie sandwich because she won’t go anywhere els after she’s had one from his place. By the end of the visit for quarters I left with 2 sandwiches. The special was ridiculously good. I’m not Nicolas Cage but that thing was gone in 60 seconds for real.

Been going here for a few years and gotta say it is my favorite sandwich shop in town. Great sandwiches at a fantastic price. They have a lot of specials and options but the Full Boat with the Works is my go to. They are always very accommodating with what you want on your sandwich, as my wife’s order is often very specific. My 1 year old loves running around inside and looking at the fountain and the workers have always been super friendly with him. I’ve talked to the owner Dave quite a few times and he is just a really friendly and cool guy. Supporting this local business is easy: Good Food, Friendly Staff and Community involvement.

I’ve been very happy with Kona’s Nord on pretty much all fronts. All of the staff are great in my opinion and they work hard to make sure you, the customer, are as pleased as possible. I’ve recently been on an Angry Bird kick which they have every Wednesday since the breaded chicken has to made from scratch. I’d definitely recommend visiting this place and getting to know everyone. Kona’s Nord definitely treats loyal customers well.

Overall the sandwich is great, however I went here for the first time today because of the pocket points deal I received on my phone earlier this morning «buy a sandwich get one free» and was told they don’t use it anymore, which was a little misleading bc they’re still on the pocket points app If you’re looking for a ginormous sandwich though skip Subway and come here for about the same price + way more quantity! Also better double check that they add your extra toppings bc I didn’t get mine. But ‘A’ for effort lol
UPDATE: I have been made aware that the pocket points notification was for the Kona’s downtown. Regardless I will definitely be back here! :-)

I love this sandwich place, I have never been disappointed while coming here. The sandwiches always have so much flavor and the staff are nice. I usually come once a week however I’m sad to say I don’t think I’ll becoming back. Tonight I came in and the prices went up I ended up paying almost 10 $ for a full sandwich as a broke college student this is not in my price range I wish the prices didn’t go up.

Best sandwiches around and the staff is very friendly. Love the Full Boat and the Destroyer! A must try!

I love Konas, the staff is always fun and enjoyable to be around. It is always nice seeing the owners son (Nick) in the store working and being a dad is rough sometimes keep up the good work and great service Dave, Courtney, Nick and the rest of the staff

This was my first time checking out Kona’s on Nord Ave! I had the absolute pleasure of meeting/​conversing with the owner, Dave, whilst also enjoying part of my sandwich inside the location. I will definitely be going out of my way to return to this specific location simply because my experience was so fantastic. Thanks a lot, Dave!

Just walked over to try the Flamin’ pig sammy with double the meat, and hubby said it was so good it made him cuss. Meat tasted great not over done on the smoky flavor just right, bbq sauce was just the right amount of spicey; would recommend to ANY bbq sandwich lover :) a new favorite for sure! Nothing is better than a great bbq sandwich made right and tastes great. As always clean, polite and had great customer service my favorite place to eat. & I can honestly say I have been coming here for 8 months and have never had a terrible experience bringing my children in 5 and 3, two energy filled little boys, the manager always greet us with a smile and makes our sandwiches to perfection. I have yet to leave disapointed with our experience or overall treatment.

Where to start? The other day I had a craving for a Kona sandwich. Being from out of town Ive only been to Kona’s once, however it was the other Kona’s downtown. From the second I walked into this one on Nord I had a sneaking suspicion something was terribly wrong.
Everything started off smoothly. My girlfriend and I made our order and the girl behind the counter began to prepare our sandwiches. As she was beginning our sandwiches she instructed a 10 year old boy to ring us up and fill our sodas. I didn’t think much of it and actually left a couple bucks in the tip jar.
Shortly after he rung us up an older man with a stern face came out of the bathroom. Great I’m thinking, this dude who just took a piss is gonna be finishing up my sandwich. Sure enough I was right. He began by jumping in next to the girl preparing a sandwich and looking at my girlfriend and calling her «girl.» It took me a second to figure out but I realized he thought he was going to be finishing up her sandwich. This small little awkward gesture was only the beginning of what I can only describe as terrible customer service.
After getting what I wanted for my order I watched as he angrily compiled my sandwich. Something in him snapped when he realized he wasn’t making my girlfriends sandwich. I have spent a lot of time reading body language, this dude was boiling!
Within 30 seconds of putting our sandwiches down at a table I heard this crazier-​by-​the-​minute middle aged man hollering across the empty restaurant to get my attention. He began by explaining that the sprouts cost him «a whole lot of money» and that he couldn’t afford to give them to us for free. He seemed almost forceful when he next said, «you got some money in your pockets. I need a couple bucks.» At this point I’m thinking ya, anything to get your psycho ass out of my space so I eat this thing and never come back again. I gave the man the money and he returned with some change in coins.
The rest of the experience was even worse. I listened to the man berate the little boy for ringing us up wrong. We overheard his entire conversation with his only legally paid staff member about how much money he owed her. All in all it was a really awkward and distasteful experience. This guy should be ashamed of himself. He has a little kid doing his dirty work while he walks around like King Kong on crack. The funniest part about all of this is there was a cop parked right next door when we had pulled up. Should have called child protective services on this wacko.
Worst part is our sandwiches sucked too. My girlfriend made sure to give an extra star because her’s was «pretty good» but we both agree the level of freshness and quality is lacking when compared to Kona’s downtown. The bread had to have been several days old. We both ordered double meat, somehow I had triple meat on one side and regular on the other. Go figures though when you have a tyrannical nut job, a high schooler probably on her first summer job and an under aged child running a business. Whoever that guy was its time to quit your day job.
Chicoans steer clear or over to the other Kona’s. This guy will ruin your day.

I must say, I really enjoy coming here for lunch. There staff is always friendly and the food is great. Oh and you must try one of there coconut cookies, there awesome. I am definitely a returning customer.

The inside of my sandwich was great. Meat and sauces all good and tasted fine. The dutch crunch bread fell apart and I couldn’t finish it. There was about a pound of lettuce. I may try again with different bread.

There is literally a head of lettuce in my sandwich, for future reference please don’t do this and invest in romaine please. #icanteven #areyoukiddingme #tossmysalad #isyournameromaine

Owner is always so fantastic! Ive had the pleasure to meet him by working alongside him at the local shelter on thanksgiving where he donated his sandwiches and served them as well! Since then Ive been in several times and like I said he is always so awesome and kind! Food is great too! who doesnt like a big fatty sub!

I love Konas but they need to put more meat on their sandwiches, even when I pay for extra I still feel like there’s not enough. Tonight I had the sloppiest slowest most lethargic employee ever, she must have been high or half asleep or both but ya. Very careless when putting my food together. Consistently good, other than that.

I got a #24 with their homr made tomatoe basil soup. The soup was good. The sandwich was disappointing. I expected a single layer of salame and even a single layer of cheese, but a single layer of thinly aliced turkey? My sandwhich was 7% condiments, 70% bread, 20% lettuce, and 3% meat. That totalled to a 100% chance of me not stopping by again.
The staff was friendly and efficient.

Great sandwiches since I went here in college.
That means 20 years. Unfortunately.
