This place has the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had. The hollandaise sauce is incredible. Friendly staff and great service. The portions are generous and the strawberry waffle with ice cream and whipped cream drizzled with chocolate satisfied my sweet tooth. I would definitely go back and recommend it to my friends

This place is a typical greasy spoon. The owner and staff are very friendly, and the service is very prompt. The food is average at best. The parking is very nice, and the facility is very clean.

If you want soggy hashed browns, something resembling eggs(but not quite) and bacon that has had the taste removed, this is the place for you!!! If not, save your money and your patience and look elsewhere.

This is a follow up to my other review. I went to the golden waffle last week(which was finals week at Vau chico) after I got off work at 6 in the morning. My server was an older lady, greeted me with a warm smile, and brought me a nice hot fresh cup of coffee. She then took my order(chicken skilled… the usual!) My order came out quick given I was one of 2 people at that early time of day. The portion was large, and the food was cooked to perfection. This was round 2 and it def. Was well worth it. I will be back for sure!

Maybe the best Waffle in the last fifteen years. Not a better fresher breakfast in Chico. I think it may be the best keep morning spot in Chico. Perfect location for the«mid-town» morning. Very light and airy in the window booth. Very much a fun time.

4.5 stars. Some friends and I went to The Golden Waffle for breakfast(well… brunch… close enough) on Friday. I hadn’t been before, but I actually really liked it. I just had a basic breakfast combo… bacon, eggs and a waffle. I was pleasantly surprised! The bacon was cooked quite well, and the eggs were good. The waffle was fantastic, but with a name like The Golden Waffle, I would certainly hope so. The service at the meal wasn’t particularly memorable, but I do remember that my drink was pretty constantly full until the end of the meal, which was fine anyway. All-in-all, the meal and the experience itself was probably worth 3.5 — 4 stars. The extra .5 star or so comes from what happened later. My friends and I ate and then went to run some errands. We got back home a few hours later and I realized I hadn’t been paying attention to my phone. It turned out that I had left my wallet at The Golden Waffle and the owner had taken the time to find me on facebook and send me a message to let me know. I’ve left my wallet behind a couple of times in the past(or cell phones, etc.) and have usually been able to recover them, but never had management call to let me know I was missing it. It really meant a lot, to me at least, that he’d take the time to do it. It’s a small thing, but it spoke volumes to me. I’ll definitely be back. :)

I’m new to the area and saw this place so I thought I’d give it a try. It had a little throwback to the old diner feel. I sat at the bar. Very fast service and good too. My coffee was never less than half empty and I drink it pretty fast. Food came quick. I had a plain golden waffle(what else with a name like The Golden Waffle) and a side of hash browns. All good and good portions. Friendly staff, decent food and good prices. I’ll certainly go back.

(February 2010) The service sucked, the food was great. Our server didn’t make eye contact, made us wait 7 minutes and just as we were getting up to leave(there were 5 other groups, 3 other servers), came to wait on us. When order came up, she left it sit on the counter for 2 more minutes while she went and bussed a table(over half the restaurant’s tables were open). Did not receive a tip and most likely, we won’t go back. Except — the food was great. Crispy waffles, thick bacon, properly cooked eggs(all of our eggs were cooked different, and we all agreed, each was done to perfection), more than enough food, excellent prices. So a compromise. We’ll go if she’s not there — or ask for someone else instead.

Service is great and all the waitresses are friendly. Food is better than Jacks and Cozy Diner, comparable to Kalico Kitchen or Russels, and not as good as The Italian Cottage or The Roost. Their eggs benedict is not too bad and they have lots of good omlettes, scrambles, waffles, etc. Overall it is a good place to go for a greasy diner breakfast.

Service was great, food was meh. I had a combo waffle with eggs and sausage. The eggs are the ones that come from a carton, definitely not fresh. The waffle was okay but not anything great. The boyfriend had a bacon waffle that he said was good, and the kiddo had pancakes and eggs. She ate the pancake but not the eggs. I hate eggs that aren’t fresh, real eggs, I mean why bother? Run of the mill sausage doesn’t impress me either. So, great, friendly service, but just almost okay food.

I’ve been here twice as I like to give an establishment a chance to redeem itself before judging. I shouldn’t have been so forgiving. For starters, this place is really run down looking. Some new furniture and carpets would go a long way. The food was rather blah and not as cheap as it should have been given its poor quality. Finally, I received pretty bad service. A real pet peeve of mine is when I run out of beverage and do not get a refill. I went the entire meal without a refill because our waitress was MIA. The icing on the cake was that they overcharged my credit card by one dollar. Upon noticing this, I called them and was shocked when their respone was«so what?». I guess they figure a dollar isn’t worth making a big deal over, which is a terrible model for customer service. For shame.

Ah, the Golden Waffle! The last breakfast I had here was very, very memorable. It happened to be the morning of Halloween, around 2002 or 2003. I ordered some sort of eggs+meat+potato breakfast, and my plate promptly arrived. Before taking a single bite, I noticed that there was A HUGE, DEADCOCKROACHONTHEEDGEOFMYPLATE. It was just laying there, upside down, right on top of the plate alongside the food. At first, we thought it might have been some sort of Halloween prank, so we pointed it out to our server. Nope, not a prank, but the real thing. The manager«comped» us our breakfast that day, which was nice, but I didn’t really eat anything. To this day my friends in Chico and I refer to this place as «The Golden Cockroach.»

The portions are huge, the prices are cheap. I had the Mike’s Special skillet and it was too much food. Surprisingly the place was empty, people don’t get up early in Chico supposedly. Staff was nice and very efficient. If I ever go back to Chico I’ll eat here again.

i had a wonderful bacon waffle… which seems really hard to find sometimes… this place has great food. the«fresh» orange juice tasted terrible, and the waitresses excuse was that it was organic and that gave it a strange metallic taste. it was comped and everyone switched to iced tea and coffee. definately a low key decent breakfast place
