First of all, Samuel L you sound like a typical ignorant retard with your comment. I bet you have not even an ounce of knowledge about sushi. Don’t even talk about creativity cause this place lacks plenty of it. If creativity is based on drenching your sushi with sweet or salty sauce taking away the actual taste of the fish then this place hit #1. My japanese friends won’t even step foot in this place. This place is horrible! I’ve been to many sushi places from low grade fast food like sushi man to quality places like sushi Ota or Asuki sushi in bankers hill, and this place is just 1 above sushi man. If you want good sushi with great price, go to Ebisu. You get what you pay for, cheap fish for cheap price. 5 star(sarcastically).

Super friendly staff! I came in alone for the happy hour prices and sat at the sushi bar. Everyone was talking with me and I had them make me a Hello Kitty which isn’t on the menu. Loved it! I will definitely be back.

Definitely love their original location in National City better! This Eastlake location is a tad smaller with less dining capacity and has a more casual feel than their National City spot. Food and drinks are the same. Prices appear to be the same. Gotta love their spicy garlic edamame! Don’t forget to ask about their secret menu… They may have something off-menu which you might really like. Eastlake is definitely happy to get a Goody’s Sushi in their neighborhood! Now they don’t have to go all the way to National City for some good sushi. I’d say this is the place to go on the east side of Chula Vista(yes, even better than Sushiya at Otay Ranch Towne Center in my humble opinion). Please try their other location too if you haven’t been to it, even if you didn’t think much of this location in Eastlake.

Walked in for their happy hour and got a great deal on a ‘Buy 2 Get 1′ deal for their rolls along with other apps. Great food for the price, especially around the Eastlake area. Sushi was fresh and food was delicious. Not much else to go on about this place, it was an overall great experience.

This little sushi Restaurant made my Monday dinner a great experience. We came with a group of friends with the expectation of having a good dinner. We ordered a couple of appetizer like the adamame Spicy beans, spicy wings, and seaweed salad. They were all great and our server was very nice. She informed us of the special rolls of the days and the most important thing was that she told us that they have special rolls that they don’t have listed in the menu. As she said it «a secret menu» All the sushi rolls were amazing. We ordered 3 different ones: Vegetarian, Baja roll, hello kitty roll, and the black dragon. My favorite was the black dragon! So Delicious. Bottom line really Yumi sushi restaurant and amazing customer service.

I would only return to goody’s sushi for their spicy garlic edamame. Goody’s sushi is similar to sushi deli. None of the rolls tasted«fresh” – all of them were drenched in some kind of sweet sauce. I ordered the Baja Roll because it had lemon slices and usually those have a citrus-kick to it, but it was sweet. I also got a Bob Marley Roll that had chili dots/sauce hoping it would be a little spicy, but it was also sweet. The Al Bundy with it’s «spicy ponzu» and seaweed salad outside was also pretty bad. I felt like i couldn’t taste any of the fish because all I got were mouthfuls of whatever they drenched the sushi in.

Sushi!!! Great customer service. I love sushi. They had pretty good nigiri and sashimi. Miso soup was hot and yummy. I had the salmon, yellowtail, toro, tuna, shrimp tempura. I enjoyed my meal.

Still my family’s favorite place for sushi. Always fresh, always friendly. Love that it’s so close to home. Kid friendly as well. Try the Lava– Lava. So great. Nice assortment of beer. Happy hour Monday through Friday.

Quiet little sushi spot deep down south, where it isn’t too congested-perfect spot for Goody’s. They are our go-to spot when we crave sushi. I haven’t been to the National City Goody’s, so i wouldn’t even compare. This is a stand-alone restaurant to me. Their service is always amazing, mind you, they’re a small restaurant(maybe eight tables and a bar?), so their service should be nothing but great with it’s intimate capacity. Right when you walk in they greet you. The servers are always so kind. They do a great job talking to you without hovering unnecessarily while you scarf all of their food down. They’re on time with refilling your drinks-always, and they’re very knowledgable of their food. Their food is so delicious. Right off the bat our favorite appetizers are their chicken wings! The GFC chicken wings and their sweet chicken wings! Order them both or get them served half and half to try both. Sooo bomb. All or their special rolls are amazing and served differently from other sushi bars. I’ve tried maybe six of them. Mr. Lava Lava, Trinity, The Hunter Roll, The Al Bundy, and I can’t remember the other names unless I have the menu right in front of me. Their regular rolls are good too. I always order crunchy rolls no matter what I get, just in case i’m still hungry(I eat like a growing teenager boy). The servers always mention their specials of the day, and let me tell you– THEIRPORKBELLYISAMAZING. I want to eat it everyday of the week. And I hope Goody adds it onto their regular menu! The only other place i’ve had amazing pork belly is Carnitas Snack Shack. Totally different flavors since Carnitas cooks theirs with apples and an apple salad, and Goody’s makes their with a strawberry sauce on their salad, but Goody’s piece if pork belly had more fat-which I particularly liked. The natural flavor of the sensual piece of pork was true to it’s own and not hidden by so much sauce– AMAZING. For dessert: the PB&J tempura dessert isn’t short from amazing. It’s perfect for a summer night, or a warm lunch treat. We’re in San Diego, ice cream is always necessary. You have to try it at least once. Their mochi ice cream is also a good choice if you want something on the lighter side for dessert, since the portion is small. We’ve eaten here maybe 4x already and will of course, be coming back :) Keep it up guys!

Went back to the Eastlake location tonight, and it was awesome, as always. Asked Goody for fatty salmon belly sashimi(not on the menu) which he had available. Had our usual Poke salad, mixed sashimi and Mr. Lava Lava. All very good and fresh. Can’t wait to go back again and try other options.

Right off the bat, the reason this place did not earn a 5th star from me is due to the small variety of fresh fish, and I’m bummed to say that I’ve come to another place that does not serve chirashi. :(Whyyyyyy?! I hope they add this to the menu! Came to try this spot for the first time last night, and I was thoroughly impressed with my experience from start to finish. I’m a big sushi snob, and it’s been really hard for me to find a good sushi place in Chula Vista, let alone San Diego, after moving from San Francisco. I’m not really a fan of cooked rolls and imitation crab style rolls, and almost all of the sushi places in the area serve mainly cooked types. Although this place has a lot of rolls with the California style imitation crab, I feel that Goody’s balances that out with topping them with raw fish. We arrived just before closing on a Friday night, and they almost had a packed house, but they graciously served us. I totally appreciate restaurants that do that because not only are you selling your food, you are also selling your service, and I am absolutely big on service. We sat that the bar and Goody immediately took care of us. He took our drink ordered first and recommended that we try Orion beer and it went well with our hot sake. Next, he took our food order: Sweet Wangs — 6 pc. fried chicken wings tossed in a sweet glaze that almost candied the skin of the chicken. If you have ever been to San Francisco, it almost reminded me of the ever-so-famous San Tung chicken wings. This is definitely a must-try and must-order-again. Mr. Lava Lava — According to the Unilocalers whose reviews I’ve read, this roll was definitely one of the most popular. Again, while I am not a fan of cooked rolls(let alone deep fried), my fiancé ordered it and I decided to give it a try. The breading reminded me of biting into a piece of katsu, and it help up very well again the drizzled unagi sauce and spicy mayo atop the roll – no sogginess at all. My fiancé really enjoyed this roll, especially since he loves that little hint of cream cheese. This is definitely a great pick if you love super savory rolls. Trinity — I had originally planned to order this roll and switch to ordering the Bob Marley, until Goody recommended that I stick with my guns. He was right. Again, another roll with the imitation crab but it also mingled with spicy tuna and a cucumber crunch. Outside the roll was topped with salmon and avocado and again a drizzle of unagi sauce and spicy mayo sprinkled with a panko crunch. I’m glad I ended up ordering this roll. It satisfied my craving of raw fish that I’d had for the last week. Philly Roll — This was just your standard smoked salmon and cream cheese roll. I know that Philly Rolls are normally packed with smoked salmon, but I do appreciate places who use fresh. This was still really yummy though. The rice wasn’t overly sticky which is always a plus. I think that a little sprinkle of toasted sesame would have been good, but they still do a great version of this nonetheless. The service was really good. I almost felt at home because our waitress was so welcoming even though it was already closing. The service that Goody provided to us was excellent. I appreciate when restaurants give ether customers recommendations, and coming from Goody himself, you know I couldn’t say no! He was very inviting and made sure that we were taken care of. Not gonna lie, I was a bit worried that since we arrived at closing, they would rush our orders and the quality wouldn’t be good. Surprisingly enough, our orders literally came out in the blink of an eye AND the quality was absolutely there. Would I try this place again? Absolutely! The staff is friendly, the food is good, and it’s reasonably priced… AND it’s close to home, which is even better! Goody’s can definitely cure a quick sushi fix, and after last night I think it’s safe to say that we were in «GOOD» hands. Thanks Goody!

Wait service was a bit slow, especially considering how small the place is. However, food came out fast and delicious. Love that there’s a legit sushi spot in this area. Finally. Thanks for opening your second spot Goody! We’ll be back & pulling for the new staff to earn that 5th& final star.

Went here on a weekday just before 6pm, and good timing, bc it was minutes before the dinner rush… Dining area is small, like the other business in this area, but they make use of the space. Service was very friendly. We ordered and our food was brought out in good time. They checked on us throughout our meal and kept our drinks filled. Husband ordered a couple sushi rolls, he was pleased… I ordered a veggie roll… It tastes exactly like a looks and sounds… Lettuce + rice. Hehe. I also ordered a side salad. A nice mix of greens, cool and fresh, with a ginger dressing. Their teriyaki bowl is pretty good too. The sauce isn’t too overpowering, the chicken was juicy. Served with some veggies. My kids had their chicken gyoza, which is on the appetizer menu. Hot and crispy. The kids enjoyed it. The tempura my hubby ordered is pretty standard. And for dessert, we ordered their PB&J tempura thingy with ice cream. When they brought it out to us, my husband recognized the PB&J sandwich is the smuckers crustless sandwiches you can get at the frozen section of a grocery store… It’s all good, it was tasty with the ice cream it came with, and the 4 of us shared one order. If I were to be critical at all, id just have to say that their short grain rice tasted just a bit dry to me. I’m asian, I know! Hehe Overall pleased with our dinner and happier this location location than the other(the service is much better and quicker!) We’ll be back!

A great experience with a bold chef. Goody is a very personable guy with an ability to stretch the boundaries of a food experience. I stopped in for a touch of lunch before visiting my friend in Chula Vista and was delighted with the menu. Simple and flavorful is the best way I can describe my first experience. The menu wasn’t vast but what they presented were amazing rolls, hand rolls, nigiri and sashimi. Something for everyone but not too much that you are overwhelmed with choices. The customer feels at home and has a welcome atmosphere. With that being said I couldn’t leave Chula Vista without another taste. I stopped in on the way out and Goody remembered me by name. I asked to see if he had anything he had been working on «off menu» and he responded with and amazing creation he dubbed the«Hunter roll» named after his son. An inside out roll stuffed with spicy tuna, asparagus, and carrot, topped with flame seared ribeye slices and a spicy Cajun sauce. The blend of favors was captivating and complex. He then offered a sashimi cut of fresh blue fin that melted in my mouth and satisfied my pallet. Thank you Goody. You will see me soon again.

It was my first time there so I kind of stuck to my standards(shrimp tempura and CA rolls). I did try and love their Black Dragon roll. Their specialty rolls menu looked very creative and I plan on exploring it. The service is fast and friendly. The chefs were open to requests that I overheard from other customers. Clean with great black and white pictures of icons like Marilyn Monroe, Muhammed Ali, and Audrey Hepburn. I am very excited that Goody’s came to east Chula Vista. They took over a site that used to be another sushi place but I didn’t really like. Located a in a little shopping center that has not had a good history of keeping its tenants. Even the big name supermarket closed. I really hope that Goody’s can become an anchor for the center and bring in more clientele to the area.

Three words: Mr. Lava Lava. I was with my teenage daughter so I couldn’t use all the colorful language I would’ve liked. So now I’ll be going back with friends… a lot. Rolling Hills Ranch/Eastlake NEEDED you. I promise to do my part to help with your success. p. s. These are not my pics, not sure why they’re attached to my post.

It’s good to learn that Goody’s sushi is expanding its horizons with this new location in Chula Vista. I stopped in for dinner, and order a few rolls, such as the tekka maki roll, a calamari roll, and a salmon skin roll. To round the evening off, I had an excellent fatty Toro Nigiri. I was first presented with the Tekka Maki which was not the moist handsome cut roll, but the flavor was there via the tuna and added sprinkling of sesame seeds. The tuna had a great rich flavor and smooth texture. Next came the calamari roll which was tempura battered then fried and came very nicely presented with added asparagus and wrapped in soy paper. The calamari was very well prepared with a crispy tempura and tender sweet calamari. I appreciated the fact that they did not skimp on the calamari. The last roll was the salmon skin, and I love it when these rolls come with very crispy salmon skins that are reminiscent of crispy bacon, and this one hit the mark in my book. The roll was well presented, cut nicely, and topped with bonito flakes. Finally, to finish off my meal, I took Good’s advice and tried the Toro in the form of nigiri. Coming from the belly of a Blue Fin Tuna, and having the highest fat content, the toro nigiri was mild in flavor with its high fat content, and its texture was a thing for the record books that melted in my mouth. No doubt an outstanding piece if fish. Goody’s offers great rolls ans sushi, topped off by great conversation and service provided by Goody, a talented sushi chef, himself at the sushi bar.

Best sushi spot in San Diego, just for better with Goody’s opening this second location(first is in National City) Great creativity and selection on specialty rolls(Jessica Alba my personal fav). The best part is their customer service. They truly treat you like family, which keeps me coming back!
