Excellent made fresh. Chicken, pork chops, jalapeño corn, sampled potato soup and gumbo! This place was delicious and we got a lot of food for a great price. Can’t wait to go back and try more.

If I had worn a blindfold, I would have thought I was at Grandma’s for Sunday Dinner. This is the epitamy of soul food. Comfort food reimagined. The food is so good it will make your tongue slap your brains out, and they have kool-aid on the menu, KOOL-AID people. Desserts to die for. It’s a very quaint neighborhood resturant, that is so clean you could eat off the floor, but they do have tables. Service is excellent. Prices are amazing, $ 11 for meat, and 3 vegatables. Try this place out, you will love it as much as I do, you can’t help it.

«My Madeas». We are exited to have a new Southern/Soul food restaraunt 5 minutes from the house. It was well worth the wait. Here is my lunch. Fried chicken smothered with brown gravy. Fried green tomatoes. Mac n cheese. Jalapeño cream corn. All in all a great meal. Chicken is top shelf. Sides were all excellent. $ 11.80 was a bargain for the quality and portions I recieved. Owned by a nice family.

I came to eat some Southern soul food again after an 8 months hiatus. I found the place the same spotless and great smelling environment. The day’s meat choices today included smothered pork chops, smothered chicken, fried chicken quarter, catfish, and meatloaf. I chose fried chicken and my wife chose smothered pork chop. Both of these entrees were delicious and homemade. I chose 3 sides to go with my one meat. The total was $ 10.99. I chose yams, collard greens, and creamed corn. All the sides were cooked to perfection with buttery, seasoned, spiced to perfect soul goodness. They have a couple of kinds of Kool Aid, tea, and canned sodas. They cook all chicken to order to ensue freshness, While you are waiting, if you check in to their FB page, they will give you a sample of their gumbo, which you can buy by the bowl. if you want to taste real southern soul food, give them a try. They even have the ubiquitous«chicken n waffles.»

The gumbo is excellent if you like pepper. The collard greens are well cooked and are simple greens. Succotash, black eyed peas, smothered chops, chicken & dumplings. We tried it all! Awesome. Fried green tomatoes were perfectly crisped with a zing of acidity. The chicken and dumplings were thick and rich. All in all, really great comfort food.

I was drawn to My Madea’s from a picture of their chicken and waffles. I did not know that this was a weekend special, luckily they prepared it anyway even though it was Tuesday. We sampled their pork and sausage gumbo and it was so good. My waffles were slightly under cooked, needed more time… my wife ordered the meatloaf and claimed it was delicious. Overall, I will come back on a weekend to try the chicken and waffles again. The chicken was definitely on point.

Absolutely loved the food, the environment and the staff. All the food was made fresh and while we waited. It was so yummy and well worth the wait.

Very disappointing… simply because everything is way over priced for extremely small portions. I spent almost $ 40 for two 1 meat and 2 sides plates and 1 gumbo… for me and two young children… if I would’ve received any assistance from the staff, they could’ve suggested the 3 meat, 3 sides plate for $ 16.99 which would’ve saved me almost $ 20! My chicken and sausage gumbo didn’t have any chicken in it at all… and there were only two small half pieces of sausage in the whole small bowl of gumbo. All I ate was rice and celery. My sons meatloaf was tiny… just overall very disappointing. I would suggest lowering the prices or making the portions larger to stay in business. Also I have to point out that… yes, it’s frustrating that the a la carte menu has one meat for $ 4.99 and you can get two sides for $ 3.98…which is under $ 9 …yet the combo plate with one meat and two sides is $ 9.99…that doesn’t make any sense and seems like they’re trying to get over on the customers. Sorry, it’s a beautiful atmosphere, great music, but the food quality was below average and prices were too high which makes for an overall poor experience.

Very disappointed. Instant rice was served with instant gravy. Food was old and had a sour taste… even the cornbread wasn’t fresh. Pricy and not worth it. The macaroni and«cheese» should just be called macaroni and macaroni, there was absolutely no cheese. The staff consisted of high school kids. The food made me sick to my stomach, literally. I hate when restaurants serve old food and thinks the customers won’t notice. We notice. Feeling extremely disappointed :(.

Super expensive. Food was not so good. Food was not fresh. It tasted like it was left over from the night before. No spices. Bland. Service was excellent. Won’t be going back.

My Madea’s was on my list of places to visit while my husband and I were in the area over the Fourth of July weekend. Let me say that the food and experience at My Madea’s made up for all of the lackluster places we ate during our stay. My husband loved the fried chicken and I haven’t tasted collard greens so good in a long-long time. The macaroni and cheese was ‘grandma’ worthy and my goodness gracious – fried green tomatoes – be still my beating heart. Wish we’d had room for dessert before returning hitting the road to return to Kingsville.

The owner and staff are friendly and very accommodating. Good southern country style cooking. I ordered 1 meat and 2 sides. The pork loin and apple glaze was delicious and jalapeño corn had a good spicy kick. The homemade red velvet cake looked so good I had to get a piece, yummy. I can’t wait to return to My’Madeas.

A little pricy($ 18 for lunch) but you do get a lot of food. The fried pork chop is to die for. Jalapeño cream corn is legendary and the cobbler is basically a wet dream with a crust. Come hungry.

My Madea’s is one bad mambajamba! This place has the most delicious jalapeño cream corn! The catfish is absolutely crisp and the filet cut was so tender! Nice work! Will be coming back!

First time visiting this Neighborhood Restaurant. The owner, Andrea recommended the 2 meat combos. All were made from scratch. The Fried Pork Chop and Fried Cat Fish coupled with a Jalapeño Cream Corn and Potatoes Salad was the Bomb!!! Took home some Peach Cobbler for dessert. We will definitely come back…

Ok, I gave them the benefit of doubt. I tried this restaurant 2x. Due to not being busy, the cafeteria style food was dry and tasteless. I try to support local businesses but they(1) need some new recipes,(2) faster service when trying to pay. Sorry yall:(

I live within walking distance of My Madea’s, and I anxiously awaited its opening. While I do not entirely disagree with the previous reviewer’s comments, I had a better experience. When business is slow, maintaining freshness on a food line can certainly be problematic. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed everything my wife and I tried. Each item was flavorful and reminded me of childhood dinner’s at home. The restaurant was clean, nicely decorated, and the staff and owner were all very friendly. The prices may have been a tad on the high side, but I didn’t mind. I will gladly pay a little extra to support small, locally-owned businesses. I will return, and I encourage others to do the same. If you are one of those who protested the new Walmart being built farther down the street, then places like this are the ones you should support!
