They have the best quality beef in Findlay. Any time that I want to make steak, beef stock, or kalbi(Korean short rib), I come here to get the best product. Their steaks have the best marbling. And all of the meat is red as opposed to when you go to Kroger and see some gray in the meats in the racks. Neil the owner can be a bit cantankerous at times but he’s a good guy who wants to give quality product. If you want a particular cut, like when I make kalbi, he’ll make a special cut for you. I won’t go anywhere else for beef

Every couple weeks or so, I will take off a few minutes early from work midweek, and trek up about 10 blocks to Findlay Market. Everytime I get there, I head straight for Charles Bare & Sons. I have never had an issue with the service, and they have always taken the time to help me out. With that said, since I usually don’t brave the unreal Findlay crowds on Saturday or Sunday, there’s usually not a line. Their ground chuck is where it’s at, and what keeps me coming back. It’s about a buck cheaper per pound than your local Kroger, but it’s not even possible to calculate how much better tasting it is. The chicken breasts are on the smallish side, but they’re always super fresh, and very reasonably priced. Also, their breakfast bacon is pretty darn delicious. If you go to Findlay, it’s tough to go wrong with any of the several meat & poultry places, but Bare is my favorite.

I was shopping at Findlay today and the man I presume to be «Neil» screamed across a sea of customers and told a previous customer that they were a «grade a a**hole» because apparently they asked to buy a large amount of meat the other day just after they closed. Neil rudely went back and forth with this customer who was apologizing to him. Cincy and Findlay is a positive community and I certain won’t give my business anymore to a company that thinks that cursing in front of 5yr old brother and treating their customers this way is acceptable.

I kept going back and forth whether to give this place three stars or four. Three stars or four. Three stars or four stars. Hmmmm… On one hand, this Findlay Market stand is full of cheap meats. It’s a long glass counter that’s got rows of your basic items — nothing fancy, just your cow and chicken and pig and such. If you’re looking for a basic BBQ, this is a spot to check out. Especially because it is so damn cheap — probably the cheapest meat vendor in all of Findlay Market. So that’s pretty good. However, I’ve never ever been overwhelmed with anything at the stand, especially the service. Unlike Kroeger and Sons down the hallway, who will take the time to talk to you about your purchase, here they always seem to be rushing you in and out. They get you your meat and then start talking to the person behind you before you’re even out of line. How rude. I like a butcher who will comment, telling me it’s a good cut or maybe I should go with something else since he hasn’t heard great things about that slab. A meat place that pushes you out the figurative door as soon as you have purchase in hand? I’m just not thrilled with it. So there is something to be said for the cheap, average-quality of their meat, which is high in abundance of both cheapness and average qualityness. Not great but not terrible either. Three stars it is.

Generally the cheapest of the beef vendors, and there’s usually some kind of special. Nothing fancy, nothing bizarre(except for, say, oxtails and turkey necks), but everything’s good. Definitely the stand to patronize if you want to grill out a bunch of steaks and drink beer on your deck or make a large pot of stew(the country ribs did a nice job of that for me). And since it’s right across from the Herbs and Spice shop, you can grab some seasonings to make the quality meats seem truly gourmet.
