I like food and«show» the chef’s perform. Only issue we had today, the place was cold and asked the management to turn the heat up several times. But they didn’t.

We stopped going to this place for a year due to a rude waiter. It seemed we got him each time we went. So when is he cursed about us to the manager when asked a question about our bill where we could hear every word he said we stopped going. Recently we went back and the staff had improved. Though the cooks were difficult to get food cooked the way we wanted it. Truly we just wanted lemon on our meats. This last time every thing was bland and the cook we had claimed to be allergic to lemons. There are too many options in the area to deal with it.

Worst experience ever in a restaurant. Regular customers that go at least twice a month. Party of 7. 9 year olds birthday. Waitress messed up drink orders(forgot drinks, mixed up diet vs regular soda, didn’t leave straws) Came to let us know that the soup would be coming, never came. Waitress came to ask if we needed anything else because ‘she had another table to take care of’ Severe allergy at the table so one meal needed to be cooked in the kitchen, told it would come out as hibachi meals were near done, we had to ask for that meal and it came after everyone had finished their dinner. Asked to make sure steak was cooked to temp correctly since no one asked. Steak was overlooked still. When the bill was brought she was asked to split the check in two, waitress rolled her eyes. When returned with split check, waitress asked if we still wanted to ‘do the whole cake and ice cream thing with singing’(mind you it was a 9 year old we were there for), then said it would be hard to round up people to sing to her because it was busy. Management didn’t care to hear our concerns Bills were incorrect, charged for extra meals that were not ordered, they fought us to correct it counting plates on our table. Waitress became confrontational when addressed about the situation and raised her voice to us as customers Nothing was done to fix the situation. Probably will never return again.

Don’t even know my servers name but he gave me anxiety… didn’t wait for us to finish our order before trying to walk away. I was the only one in the restaurant at 6pm. Food was okay. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my friends.

This review is for sushi only. The rolls are so small and lack creativity, flavor and freshness. We may return to try the hibachi.

Excellence. Kobe has been my home for Japanese food for years. Everything is always seasoned and cooked to perfection. Its a fun environment for kids because of the booster seats and the interaction the chefs have with them and their families. My favorite food is sushi and they have some of the best sushi around. One thing to watch for is how often you go to Kobe. Your wallet will get lighter and you will get heavier.

I have had much better sushi here than tonight. The rolls were tiny and the nigiri was even smaller. ALL of the sushi was very bland and would have been difficult to tell apart if I had been blindfolded. I was extremely disappointed. When does the sushi chef not know whether he has Toro or not. He had to ask the manager? Won’t be going back for a long time I can assure you.

You should get no stars! I have visited this restaurant a few times before and only had 1 previous issue with the service but no issues with my food. This time, I ordered general Tso’s chicken, a dish I have had plenty of times before at other places but never here, but I figure should be about the same. Well WRONG! My food came and it didn’t resemble what I expected, but I tried it anyway. Well it didn’t taste like I expected either. My friend ordered the same thing and she didn’t like it either. The kids enjoyed their food and ate it so we sat there drinking out sprites until they finished bee asked the waitress, who was terrible, to remove the two entrees off our tickets. Instead of the manager coming to speak with us, he sent someone else out and we explained to him the issue. He went back to the kitchen, still no manager, and the other comes back out and says«the manager says there is nothing he can do.» I told him we are not paying for these 2 entrees because we didn’t eat them, but we will pay for everything else. We sat there and waited while our waitress kept passing by us looking stupid, then low and behold, a cop shows up. The manager called the cops instead of even coming to talk to us face to face. So now he shows his face when the cop arrives. Well after about 20 minutes of debating, we only paid for what we ate, like we said we would and left. That will be the last time I step foot in there again! Don’t waist your time! Food and service is not consistent and it’s clear, the manager cares nothing about his customers.

My kids and I love sushi and hibachi, so we’ve tried this place twice. First time we went and sat at the hibachi table. What a joke. The hibachi chef at the next table over spent the whole time telling the diners sitting there about the customer he’d had the night before who complained about him. Clearly, I could understand why hahaha. The food was sub par and not worth the price. The sushi was even more disappointing. The staff had their children running around the place, it was just messy and unprofessional. We tried it again and this time ate at the sushi bar. Still the food wasn’t very good at all and definitely not worth the price. A place like this would NEVER survive in a city with competition. I refuse to give them a third try…

Food, waitress and chef was ok but that female manager was horrible and rude, uggh… She would be the reason that I would not want to come back. She was also rude to the staff.

The lunch was terrific. We ordered the vegetable tempura appetizer which was great. I ordered the salmon dinner that was amazing and cooked perfectly! We will eat here again soon. Thank you Kobe!

Bla! Went for lunch. Not overly busy but there was a 20 min wait on Friday at 1pm. Sat at the bar to avoid a wait. The waitress took our oder with no pen or paper while holding a whole tray of food… We ordered 2 sushi rolls that were good enough but rolled super loose and fell apart. We ordered 2 steak lunches. There was very little steak. It was not a med portion more like a kid size. The carrots are great and they served up a pile of them. The waitress brought our food and that was the last we saw of her. We had to ask for water, and the bill. The worst food part was the rice. It was a 1:1 ratio of rice to veggies and TONS of chopped onions. It was not good at all. I doubt I will go back as there is nothing that stands out for such a price.

Today we decided to skip our normal sushi location for Valentines Day and go try Kobe for the fiest time. We were immediately greeted and seated. Table and surrounding area was clean and respectable. The waiter was nice and on top of our order. He was also patient with me as I couldn’t decide what I wanted to eat. We ended up with a chicken and veggie tempura appetizer first, which qas rather large. Instead of just sweet potato, onions, and mushrooms, this also had zucchini, cucumber, baby corn, green pepers, and celery. All of which was good. My husband had a miso soup which he enjoyed. For dinner, we got two specialty rolls and two chef’s rolls. All four were very good, although their spicy mayo could use a little more kick. We also got two alcoholic beverages each and 4 peices of nigiri. Our drinks never went empty and the food was great. We cant wait to go back :)

Clearwater roll was perfect… lots of raw fish and no rice to make you feel heavy. Seaweed salad was perfectly seasoned and a large portion for the price. Everyone at my table enjoyed their rolls and sashimi. Kids chicken was enough for two and they brought home for two dinners! Lost a star because waitress was horrible. Clearly frazzled, forgot items, dropped and shattered glasses, and she only had 2 tables. She did mention that milk was not available bc past date. Glad she noticed but don’t tell us that… just say you are out! Also a tray of trash and used dishes sat on a chair next to us the entire time. Gross

Being Japanese, I find this restaurant mediocre. The Japanese/Chinese menu threw me for a loop. Service was good. The menu consisted of sushi, very little traditional Japanese food. Wouldn’t really recommend to Japanese foodies. Should’ve realized reviewers were non-Asian.

This place has great sushi that actually uses more sushi than rice, thank goodness! The chef cuts the rolls evenly and the rolls are not lopsided like other restaurants. The hibachi side has great tasting food as well with large portions. I have always had good friendly service, regardless if the restaurant was busy or not, and I have never had to wait long for my food or to be seated. The prices here is decent and not overpriced, its well worth the trip!

Third trip to location yet my first review. The food here has been consistently very good. Although I have not ate at the Hibachi table as of yet, I plan to return with group to try same. Today I had the Dancing Mama sushi roll. It was really outstanding in the taste category with a mild smoked salmon. I will without a doubt order it again. Sushi gets an A after third sampling over my visits. The Mrs. had the light dish served in a Bamboo steamer consisting of chicken & beef with veggies. The light soy type sauce was served on side. She really enjoyed it & had to take some home. I had the shrimp beef combo served with fried rice and bananas. It also cane with miso soup & salad. Food delivery from kitchen may not be as fast as you like but it was not long either. Fresh to order & really good is always worth it. This is one of my go to places for guests now. I am confident it might be for you too. Two five star restaurants ratings in a row for me. Am I getting soft on my ratings? I think not– enjoy!

My family traveled to Smithfield for the day to do some shopping, and we were craving Japanese food. Its 14 miles away from the shopping area, but totally worth the trip! My family definitely enjoyed both the food and friendly environment! Seating was fast and my family felt welcomed. I tend to be very picky about my sushi. This place had excellent chef specialty rolls. We tried the delta force, pink lady, and crazy tempura. Not usually a huge fan of tempura rolls, but these were EXCELLENT! I was surprised! The hibachi chef was hilarious! I liked the interaction between customers and the chef! Not to mention the hibachi was yummy! I loved the fried bananas we got at the end. Pricing is about average for a Japanese restaurant. You get what you pay for! Two appetizers, the entrée, desert, and entertainment for the price of one? Perfect.

Yaay, they are BACK, and as good as ever! I’ve been about 5 more times since my last Review where I was afraid they were going out of business. They are back in full swing now, nailing the service and food every time. They are also getting more and more busy, and we’ve been a couple of times when they are PACKED, and the staff works very hard to please, and the sushi chefs always make outstanding Sushi rolls. The customers are happy and have a good time here, last night I heard cheers and laughter coming from big groups at the Hibachi Tables. About 6 months ago they completely changed the Menu to also include Chinese, and what we’ve had has been very good. Kobe’s in Clayton is BACK!
