Nice restaurant and atmosphere. My husband and I went with another couple. Portion sizes are enormous. We all wished each couple would have shared a dish. All the dishes we had were delicious.

Very pleased with an excellent dining experience! We had 6pm reservations Friday night for which we were slightly late in keeping. Nevertheless the hostess greeted us and per our request, placed us in a quiet corner and sent our server our table promptly. Christine is a lovely lady who was very knowledgable about the menu and provided guidance to our queries. The mushroom soup was very very good and my trout was very tasty! My wife had a perfectly done(well done I might add) filet mignon and fresh veggie plate. We finished with a perfect crème brûlée! Christine was attentive, pleasant, and knew when to approach our table and when to give us space. We found the prices very reasonable, the quality of the food excellent, the service perfect, and overall value for the experience better than most we have experienced! This is a resort area with many screaming kids, and parents trying hard to corral them who like to ski, skate, swim and generally like to be rambunctious! We applaud them, and their efforts! Thoroughly enjoyed the staff at The Portals restaurant! Previous Unilocal reviews were misleading in my opinion. This restaurant is worth checking out if you are in the area!

When we arrived we were a little nervous about eating at Portals based on the Unilocal reviews we’ve read. But, we had to give them an opportunity to prove themselves. We made a dinner reservation for the evening we arrived. We arrived a few minutes early and the hostess seated us promptly. The tables and chairs were nice and comfortable and the view was amazing just like the view from our room. We had two servers; one young woman that was in training and Jeffery. We looked through the menu which didn’t think it was very pricey as stated in other reviews; we asked a few questions about appetizers and entrees. Jeffery suggest the brussel sprouts and so glad we took his recommendation! After that suggestion he instantly earned our trust. We both ordered the Filet Mignon and requested it to be cooked medium. When it arrived the presentation was very impressive. Our first bite of the steak just melted in our mouth; it was cooked to perfection and just how we ordered it. The vegetables were tasty and the potatoes were outstanding. The service was the best we have ever experienced and knew right away we wanted to come back for another dinner. During this wonderful experience there was a little girl at another table that was having a birthday. We didn’t realize our server was also a powerful singer. That Happy Birthday song was one of the best we’ve heard. Come to find out he has a lot of experience singing and also has other many talents. We couldn’t wait to come back. As we were leaving we made reservations for the next evening. We requested Jeffery’s table as his service truly made our dinner exceptional! The next morning we ordered room service and had the waffle and breakfast burrito. Again, very prompt service, great prices and delightful tasting food. We arrived that evening for dinner. Our reservation was for 8:15 and we arrive a few minutes early. Jeffery didn’t have any tables open as he was very busy but we were happy to wait for him. We were escorted to our table around 8:30. This time we ordered the short ribs and chicken with risotto. Jeffery helped me find a wine that would compliment my dinner; his expertise in this area is outstanding! He took his time to ask me a few questions and found a wine that I would like and go well with my dinner. It was a great match and although I’m not very fond of wine I did enjoy it a bit. As dinner ended he had yet another surprise for us; crème brûlée and a desert wine… WOW!!! PERFECTION it was an amazing combination. Jeffery then surprised us with a beautiful song! He truly goes over and beyond and now we feel we have made a wonderful friend! All in all the food was really good but by far the service we received from Jeffery was top of the line!!! If you’re coming to dinner ask for Jeffery he will make your experience truly amazing and you will not regret it!

Had a reservation seat promptly, not pack but crowded enough. Dena our waitress is very good and attentive. but man it took more than half an hour for 3 burgers to come to our table. and all of them cooked in same manner burnt out side and very pink inside(asked for well done, medium and last one medium rare). good service but bad kitchen(chef) …

This place is a definite let down, especially since Suncadia is in such a beautiful location. You’ll have a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains on a clear day, but other than that, there isn’t anything special about this restaurant. We ordered the elk sausage, the omelet and waffle. The elk sausage was improperly seasoned, as we tasted more nut meg than the natural taste of the meat. The waffle was so-so, not crisp whatsoever. Maybe it had been sitting around for a while. The omelet wasn’t anything special either. It’s not that service was down right terrible, but our server, Bev, was very elusive about our bill. First, she simply dumped off the bill at our table and then tried to leave immediately. It was almost as if she was trying to hide something from us. When we asked her to split up the check, she said, «oh, we can’t do that for your party since it’s larger than eight.» OK fine, I understand that, but most restaurants that have this policy will let it’s patrons know this before hand. Bev, and the front end staff did not tell us. Finally, when we divided the bill, it seemed incredibly high for what we ordered. Our tabs asked for added gratuity, but we had a feeling this had already been added into the bill. We again had to hunt down Bev to address this. Why, AGAIN, was she hesitant about being up front with us?! Bottom line: if you’re starving, and don’t mind a suboptimal dining experience with mediocre food in exchange for convenience, then Portals is fine. The food won’t kill you, but I’d go for Swiftwater Cellars or room service instead.

If you’re staying at the lodge, you’re bent over the barrel. This is the only restaurant here… Got to the hostess stand at 9:00am this morning. Figured there wouldn’t be a wait at all because there was literally no one in the restaurant. Well we were wrong. Evidently there was an hour and a half wait. UMMMM ok. After 15 minutes we were seated. wtf? Yeah, not sure either. The food is kind of blah. It all needs salt, and it’s overpriced. For a hotel restaurant with such a nice view they would do SOOO much better. If you have a one bedroom or larger condo with a kitchen I’d recommend cooking yourself. Note– the room service comes from here too, so it’s the same lame menu.

I should have checked the reviews for this place first. If I had I would have chosen Swiftwater Cellars for dinner. Our reservation was for 7 pm on Saturday. First, the wine list hasn’t been updated(the restaurant is under new management) and the wine I selected, the only Zinfandel by the glass, wasn’t available. I picked a Syrah. Caleb, our really great waiter, upgraded my wine. It was delicious! Thank you Caleb! Then the Sea Bass was sold out as was the spinach soup. Really? The kitchen didn’t plan ahead. Hmm. The bread was lightly seasoned with rosemary and was worth the extra crabs. Moving on, the Cesar salad was really good. Not too garlicky, not too wet, it was lovely. For entrées, I ordered the sirloin and my date ordered the short ribs. The short rib were under-cooked. The menu touts is had been slow cooked for 12 hours. NOT. It should have been fork tender and it wasn’t. My date had to use my steak knife. Also, it came with grits. Again, epic fail. We thought they were very strange potatoes because the grits were lumpy and way too thick. Ugh. The meat was also smothered with shredded very light saluted kale. It wasn’t good. I had ordered the sirloin medium-rare. The core of the meat was medium rare, but when I initially cut into it, the meat was done. The second cut was medium. There were about 2 bites that were actually medium rare. Disappointing. I order medium-rare because beef is usually has more flavor(important for a sirloin) and more tender. Even the medium rare section was tough and chewy and flavor-less. I didn’t finish it. Caleb did what he could. He called the manager over. The manager asked about the food, we told him. He just looked at us as said he wants us to have a good experience and then left. WHAT? Caleb came back and said the manager didn’t offer to do anything about the meal. We were offered desert and Caleb told us there was a party of 26 and the kitchen was way behind. He pointed out the items on the desert menu that he could put together so that we would have to wait. We ordered the doughnuts and they did not disappoint. So good, I should have ordered another. When the bill came, we were comped the desert(it was my birthday) and he gave us the employee’s discount. Though the manager was indifferent is certainly didn’t spill over to the wait staff. Caleb and his assistant did their very best to give us a great experience.

Traditional American fare for 150% the price of other places. Lunchtime traffic was minimal, but service was slow. The hostess was unable to give clear answer. We asked for seating for 10 people at 11am and was told that there were seats available and lunch service started at 11am, but it would just be easier for their staff if we came back at 11:30. She was concerned her service would be too slow… We had walked across the entire resort to arrive for lunch and our kids(5 kids 5 and under) were not interested in waiting an additional 30 minutes to be seated, nor were we. Still, wait we did. Lo and behold, after we sat down at 11:30, service was still very slow despite a near-empty restaurant. Every item was over-priced and everything we ordered was over-seasoned. Our solution was to order off the kids menu, which was a success. If there were other options at The Lodge, Portals would be out of business. It’s never a good sign if the best item on the menu is on the kids menu… I’m just sayin’.

Beautiful view overlooking the forest and Cle Elum River. Large ceiling windows are in the restaurant offering outstanding panoramic views of the forest from your dining table. We were at Portals for lunch. A very relaxed and spacious restaurant. Prices were the following. A very large Reuben sandwich with fries = $ 19.00. Chicken salad croissant sandwich with apple slices, dried cranberries and bibb lettuce with fries = $ 15.00 Three Crisp Cilantro Fish Tacos = $ 18.00 One bottle of Suncadia Red Wine produced by Maryhill Vineyards = $ 36.00 Plate presentations were nicely done and the food was delicious. The next time we are in the area, we will try the Canary Lounge at the Inn at Suncadia and compare the two establishments.

I ate here twice yesterday, for breakfast and dinner. In both cases the setting was beautiful — it’s a lovely room with nice furniture and views. Breakfast: 1 star. We were seated right away, then provided adult menus, but no kid menus(3 kids). They said they’d find some. Then they came back 10 minutes later to take our order but still no kid menus. Then they came back 10 minutes later to take our order but still no kid menus. Yikes why is it so hard? Then the menu… it’s expensive, and there are few ‘combo’ type breakfast options. Lastly, the food was so-so at best. The waffles tasted as if they were gluten-free toaster waffles. The french toast was more savory than sweet. The pancakes were good. Somehow I had 2 servers — the first seemed confused, and even though I didn’t ask for a switch I did end up with someone doing a good job for the 2nd half of breakfast. Dinner: 3 stars. Service was consistently good and attentive, and good with kids. The menu was varied and interesting. The kids entrees were well-done. The adult entrees were mixed… the lobster mac & cheese was soupy at the bottom, and so-so. But the black cod special was fresh, interestingly prepared and excellent. The salad was good but could have used more dressing. The truffle potatoes were plain. So based on yesterday, I’d consider going there for dinner, but never again for breakfast.

I have always love the resort & the restaurant setting is spectacular. They need a new chef or management. A $ 21 salad should never have anything that looks, tastes, or smells like canned crab. This is the only place I’ve ever had a $ 35 plate of sea bass that smelled fishy. Basically inedible. Either a bad chef or a management which won’t pay for good food.(Or both) I don’t know about anything else being served except that another customer was complaining about how his steak was cooked, & someone else said the short ribs were actually quite good. 2 stars for the staffs’ attempt to make it a nice experience despite paying prices to justify actual fine dining when not receiving anything close. Too bad. Such a nice place otherwise.

My husband, baby girl and I came here for my 30th birthday. The service was great and the food was delicious! I won’t knock them a star but I do agree with some reviews where they say it is a bit overpriced from some items. I had the salmon and it was pretty pricey for the small piece I received. I have been to plenty of nice restaurants and you get a bit more for your money. That being said, we still enjoyed ourselves!

I am so appalled… $ 48(base; plus tip was over $ 61) for two adults to have the breakfast buffet, the kind of breakfast buffet that’s complimentary at many hotels. The eggs looked like a yellow rubber brick, conjuring up memories of school cafeteria food. The hollandaise sauce tasted unrecognisable; without a doubt, the worst hollandaise I have ever put in my mouth. I recommend driving to Roslyn to have breakfast at any of the cafes instead of having the overpriced bad food at Portals.

The service was good for dinner and lunch both. The dinner — trout cake was delicious, steak not so much. I asked for medium rare, it came in more of medium to medium well. Potato au gratin that came as a side dish had no seasoning or taste. Wedge salad was a lettuce with litttttttle bit of dressing. For breakfast the salad with steak was delicious. Eggs benedict excellent but other breakfast buffet item such as french toast was dry and not so great.

Don’t come to Suncadia and expect great dining. While the resort is great, the dining is anything but. Portals is the only option and trust me when I say you’ll leave feeling ripped off and highly disappointed. Granted the resort was full but that doesn’t make up for bland overcooked food. I mean all of it. Tasteless and way overcooked. And good luck navigating the wine menu. I’ve never seen anything like it. No method to the arrangement and highly overpriced for the offerings(more so than your typical 100% restaurant mark up). The red we did order was served at a 70 degree room temp.

This could be a great place ! You cannot beat the awesome view and beautiful surroundings. The service was Excellent as well. Our apps were good — not great. Meats and cheese platter was good. The crab soup — great. Meatloaf not so good. Scallops over risotto — came out cold. My husband had the lobster tail with venison. He loved it. Wanted to have a GREAT meal but just did not.
