I have been here multiple times and each time I am very impressed. The Godzilla rolls are great if you want something crunchy and sweeter. The California rolls are just like any others but I think they are fresher than Syringas. Service was great, and the food took awhile to come out but they were packed full so it was understandable. The booths have very comfy cushions that make for sitting down for longer periods of time enjoyable.

We tried this place out before heading to a movie next door. I ordered a rib tips dinner. The flavor blend was great but very little meat was on the bones. Would I go back? For the price, not likely.

So I’m not one to write reviews for anything, but I specifically downloaded Unilocal so I could write this. Ugly fish is terrible. I called and asked what the wait was and they said no wait come right in. Me and my three roommates come in and the blonde girl at the front says 25 min so instantly we were all pissed, our intentions before ugly fish was to go to Olive Garden but it was a 30 min wait. Anyways we see three booths empty, and the blonde host cleaned half of one then went to the front and didn’t even help the two groups in front of her. End of the story is we all got food poisoning and are sitting in urgent care right this second. I didn’t come eat there and pay 50 dollars for food to throw it all back up.

I don’t know why it took us so long to try this place out! Everything was amazing from the restaurant itself to the food to the service. We had the Washington & Hawaii rolls, miso soup and heart attack appetizers, it was all incredibly fresh and delicious. Can’t wait to go back again.

Awesome restaurant. Went for lunch, and the staff was extremely attentive but not overbearing. The atmosphere is very quiet and peaceful and the layout is open for a welcoming feel. The sashimi and sushi are both equally delicious and the chefs prepare it at almost a record speed for any other sushi bar I’ve been too. Definitely will be returning.

We have had several meals there and it feels like every time we eat there it’s a different chef. Sometimes the meal can be prepared perfectly and other times it’s nothing to brag on. I would love to recommend it and hope you have a good night but it’s not a guarantee. The coconut shrimp are one of my favorite appetizers and the chicken lettuce wraps are always perfect. The rolls can be good but the basic California roll is always a good classic. The tempura rolls are great if they come out warm. I would recommend reservations on a busy night and the food does take time to come out.

Great food. Attentive service. We had the boat sushi sampler. Our drinks never got low. Fantastic Bento Boxes. We will be back.

I am so torn about the Ugly Fish. I enjoy the food enough, to have kept coming back, for both lunch and dinner, over the past few years, in spite of the consistently awful service. However, the last two experiences have me pretty sure, that I won’t return. The last time I went here(about a month ago), my husband and I actually just asked to have our food boxed to go, after waiting an hour and ten minutes for our food and having our server, never come to the table to check on us, or refill our drinks. We both sat there fuming and starving, the entire time. The long wait time for the food to be served and the inattentive service, is unfortunately something that I had come to expect at the Ugly Fish, but that last visit was the worst! It’s a bummer, because as previously mentioned, the food here is pretty tasty(both the sushi and the entrée’s). But not amazing enough, to put up with the dismal service.

Delicious sushi! I was a bit skeptical when I walked in, the place seemed a little over the top, but the food was sushi perfection. We had the Alaska roll, a surf and turf roll, and a basic tuna roll. The Alaska was the tastiest roll I have had in a very long time. The rest was almost as good, even the basic tuna we thought was perfect. The simple combo of rice and tuna, balanced just right, made that the one I’m still craving. My only complaint deals with the confusing items on the menu… the surf and turf has lobster, but the lobster roll has crayfish, no lobster? There are a few items like that that really didn’t make sense.

The food here is pretty good, and the portions are HUGE! I’ve always had good service. The selection is large and can be overwhelming if you don’t know what you like.

This fine restaurant has been a staple for«Date Night» over the years. Very upscale décor and high quality food at a fair price. Lighting and colors are just right. It also has the added benefit of being across from the park to go to after a good meal and stretch your legs on a pleasant walk.

I am not a big sushi fan, but my husband is. There was a good selection for me, and my husband thought that there were plenty of sushi choices for him. Our food was good, but not wonderful. There was an adequate beer and wine menu as well as several sake choices. The ambiance was quite lovely, although some of the furniture was showing its age. I didn’t think to ask about a dessert menu. The service was good.

THEBESTSUSHIINTHEAREA! I come from San Francisco, and I know good Japanese. The Coeur d Alene roll is unusual but so good. I love the sautéed noodles as a side, as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant.

My lovely wife, oldest step-daughter and I recently went to Coeur D’Alene to celebrate Father’s Day and get out of the hustle and bustle of Walla Walla! We like staying at the Hampton Suites which used to be a bit out of the way near the Spokane River. Now it seems to be in the center of a thriving area with lots of new stores and restaurants with upscale condos and lodging. We’d heard good things about Ugly Fish Asian Bistro from Unilocal so we tried it. It’s larger than it looks and was pretty busy for Father’s Day weekend but we were seated fairly quickly. One thing we noticed is it was packed with locals who waved at each other while exchanging pleasantries. That’s a good thing! We ordered some sake, edamame, sushi and bento. I ordered hot sake, which is nontraditional for summer, but it came at a perfect body temperature. I like hot sake to be as warm as a lover’s kiss — 98.6 °F. The edamame was good and I’m glad we got it since the waitress warned us that things were a bit slow in the kitchen. Slow means you might start thinking that sake could be part of the veggie group! When our sushi and bento arrived, though, it was very good with well-prepared rice, fresh fish and veggies in an attractive setting. The bento included tempura shrimp and veggies which were done just right. One curious thing about tempura… it is not Japanese abut was actually brought over from Portugal to Japan. No one is sure how it got the name tempura but it’s not Japanese. Overall an excellent dining experience with well prepared food at reasonable prices in a place popular with locals.

Went in for lunch on a Tues. They took 35 mins to get me a drink and take my order. There were maybe 6 people in the place and several wait staff. The food was delicious but when it takes 1.5 hours to get the sushi lunch special I am not impressed

Surprised this place doesn’t have better reviews; we loved it! Granted we hadn’t tried any of the rolls(we’re purists and tend to go for sashimi), but here’s a quick list of all the things that were awesome: – Ambiance: Nice and comfy, upscale/clean without being stuffy. We sat in one of the oversized booths and were so comfortable… really felt like we had our own personal space! – Service: Pleasant, quick but not too quick… great staff, everyone super friendly with a warm smile on their face. – FOOD: The fish is super fresh and delicious. One of the best sashimi platters we’ve had(saying a lot considering the fact that we’ve had it all over the country at this point). – Presentation: Beautifully plated, very appetizing. – Price: We found this place to be considerably cheaper than expected for the quality/atmosphere/service experienced. Love it here, highly recommended!

This is probably the best sushi in town at the moment, although you will pay more than for a comparable meal at Bonsai Bistro or Syringa, the two other places I go for sushi when I want to stay in town. The sushi itself is always fresh and delicious, beautifully made, and extremely satisfying. If it wasn’t for the cost, I would eat here at least once a week!

Was in town for work and did a solo trip to this place. Ate at the sushi bar and the staff was friendly and helpful. The Jasmine hot tea hit the spot on the cold night. I order the Surf n Turf roll and an Eel roll. Both were great and reasonably priced. The place was clean, cool atmosphere, and a place I will visit again on my next trip. It is located near an outdoor shopping area, and a movie theater, so there are things to do after you eat.

I visited Coeur D’Alene for a few days and to my delight, I found a sushi joint relatively close to the hotel I was staying at. I read there reviews here on Unilocal and had high hopes. High hopes that were pretty much crushed. To start, Ugly Fish opens at 11:30am, not 11am according to Unilocal. The nice part of Ugly Fish is I was able to order my take-out online. No one to screw up my order besides me. I ordered a Volcano Roll, Bruce Lee Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll. I didn’t pay online because the whole premise and website seemed just a little sketchy and I’d rather pay in person. About 20 minutes later, I arrived at Ugly Fish. You’d expect a fresh fish place to smell like fresh fish. I found the smell a bit too fishy and unpleasant. There were two women sitting at the sushi bar and a family of 4 sitting at one table. That was all. There was quite a bit more food under the tables than I care to see in a restaurant. The sushi itself was just alright. I try to eat sushi everywhere I travel because variety is the spice of life right? The rolls were about 2 steps above Fred Meyer sushi. If the Ugly Fish sushi used old rice like Fred Meyer does, it would have been equivalent to Fred Meyer. I won’t visit Ugly Fish anytime soon while in the Coeur D’Alene area. On Unilocal some people swear by this place but it’s not for me. Thanks but no thanks.
