brand new to the gables and i was looking for a seedy bar to just chill and have a beer. well i have found my haven! all jokes aside its a higher end dive bar. like its literally a dive bar but considering the location i feel it deserves a little more credit. no pool tables, i guess its a coral gables thing that they don’t like pool tables. weird i know. touch tunes available so you can play whatever when there is no dj. I’m gonna steer clear of fridays though TOO packed! bartenders are cool for the most part some are a little douchy but i guess thats to be expected at a hip bar in the gables! well can’t have it all i guess. hope it helps! cheers

Classic neighborhood bar. It’s the oldest bar in Coral Gables. Used to be The Hofbrau way back. Lots of great drink/beer choices. Glad they’ve kicked up the menu with semi-gourmet food choices.

I have been going to this place for almost two years non stop, but be careful they will use the force(and I mean the police) to take you out if they don’t like you, even if they know you using any stupid excuse to do it… another tip, do not extend your conversation with the bartender and waitresses beyond of what is required, the management is watching you every single word and they will not think twice to bring the force(see above) against you, enjoy!!!

Love this place! Especially the paito area in the back — Sometimes they play football/sports on the giant screen in the back. The food is great too! Best bar I’ve found in Miami that’s not a «club» but is a place where you can go kick back with your friends and have a few drinks.

So I’ll admit that I feel totally lame for not liking The Bar… but to each his own, right? Let me start by saying that I’m a very easy-going person… Came here on a Friday night around midnight. I walk in and am completely overwhelmed… it was so, so, SO packed. Not only was it packed, but it was packed with a very young, excessively drunk crowd. I am no «vieja» myself and I definitely do love myself some drinks, but everyone in this crowd had had way too much. After fighting my way through the drunkenness, I finally get to the bar for a drink. The bar was completely SOAKING wet. Without noticing(it’s so dark and packed), I put my arm down in a nice huge puddle of beer. Lovely. Besides the soaking wet bar, the floor is super sticky everywhere. I eventually found a bench to sit on and when I sat, my jeans got completely wet! The benches were soaked too so now I’m nearly completely drenched — ugh. It’s a shame everything was just so sloppy, because the music was actually really great! It was hard to enjoy though considering everything else. My experience just felt like an awful, sloppy college party. I actually do want to come back since everyone else seems to really love this place. I’ll just be sure to come back at a different time or day of the week.

Been back since several times and I am happy to report– improved DJ… SO much better! Happy to be back. Danced all night. Best hole in the wall in South Miami to get your dance on. FULL bar and truly legit beer selection. (Would check in more often but I’ve been D-R-U-N-K-yay!)

Celebrated my birthday here and the manager plus the staff did an excellent job! They really took care of my needs as well as all my guest. We had our own section in the patio, tables accommodated to our needs and our own server. I strongly recommend this place for events not only is it in the gables but drinks are reasonable price as well as the food. You can’t go wrong! Thank you THEBAR!

I just moved to Coral Gables from out of state and had several friends in visiting. I wanted to show them around and we ended our night at the bar. The bouncer looked at our out of state IDs and told us they were fake and to leave immediately. We are all between the ages of 25 – 35 with the exact same state ID but he was incredibly rude and would not look at anyone else’s ID to let us in! So rude and ruined a fun night. Will not be back. Guess the door men should learn a few more states before they are hired…

I’ve found myself at The Bar many a Monday nights. And despite the rave food reviews, I have never once eaten here. My nights brought me here because the type of venue that The Bar is. It’s small, a wrap around bar. Owned by the same people as Purdy Lounge and Blackbird. There are plenty of stools and tables around the joint. They have a food menu and a decent beer board, and are fully stocked with their liquor selection. They also have an outside under-cover area in the back with more seats. They have a corner jukebox and bathrooms that are«very clean» as the posted sign says. And they decorate for the holidays,(Halloween, Christmas), I like that. The benefits for Monday’s are that each time you order a drink, they give you this wonderful little chip that is good for another drink. Beer, wine, a shot or a drink drink. All I take from this, is that it’s completely a win-win situation. They get more patronage, and you get another drink. So with this in mind, I came here for a few Monday’s and each drink turned into an investment as we stocked up on drink chips. The plan went accordingly, and we returned one Monday night to cash in our free drinks. Honestly, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, they are your chips to use whichever Monday you please. But even so, the bartender(I wish I remembered her name) was so friendly about it. With everything they have to offer in their plaid shirts, I like The Bar. Side-note, if you like your crowds and good service, they do get pretty full on a Friday night, when they have Ladies Happy Hour from 5:30 — 7:30 pm. And they have Whiskey Wednesdays and a karaōke night too.

I really wanted to hate this bar. It’s not the type of place I would choose, but my friends brought me here and I didn’t have a say in the matter. The place filled up fairly quick but the bartenders never once ignored any of the patrons. Even though it was very crowded it was not a problem at all for me to get the bartenders’ attention, get my drinks and pay. The prices are also pretty good. There was NOLINE for the women’s restroom either and it never ran out of toilet paper or overflowed with trash. I obviously misjudged this place and would come back.

I caught part of a football game here recently. It was sort of dank inside in a good way.

So on a random night, I think it was a friday, hubby and I decided to venture to coral gables to try dinner after shopping at bed bath beyond, rather than go back to brickell. We ran across a cool place that we wanted to eat at but then it had a 45 minute wait, we asked where we can go to casually grab a drink and she said the«bar @ the corner». We walked in and to our surprise, the music was on loud, people were dancing, and quite drunk @8pm. I was almost taken aback by this as it reminded me of college frat parties. We decided to get a drink or two and the music was so awesome, we delayed our reservations 2x until we finally decided to just order at the bar. Shrimp empanadas– home-made flavorful and tasty Nachos– huge decadent and delicious and cheesy Fries with gravy and pimento cheese– Absolutely divine. This is some of the best version of poutine we’ve had. We danced the night away and had a great time, with excellent food and would definitely come back here on a night when I’m feeling sexy and wild.

The Bar is a great place to go that’s open later than most establishments, which is a good plus. It is a casual setting, lots of places to sit around the bar and in the booths. The drinks are a bit costly, but this is Coral Gables. I wanted a Dark and Stormy, but they were out of ginger beer. I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea(it was that kind of night) and, as that was my first one that wasn’t from Outback, I realized I didn’t particularly care for the gin and some other ingredients in there. The bartender was gracious and made me a rum and coke instead. It was a bit slow when we went at 2am, but we had a fun game of dominoes, some drinks, and fries(they were whatever). It’s a good place to go for a random late night outing, but, it wouldn’t be my first choice

I stopped by this place because our Chief Operating Officer Bryan Lozano decided that we needed to scale down our lunchtime meetings. This is an oasis in the middle of downtown Coral Gables that will remind many people from larger cities or the Midwest of what life really is like back home. And the endless selection of beers on tap and bottles and the best chicken sandwich I have had, perhaps ever. The absolute highlight of the meal has to be our server, Layna the«Pride of Ohio» and provided us wonderful service and made sure our lunch was certainly one we will not soon forget. Will we be back? Most likely I’ll still be here when you get here!

The veggie Burger at The Bar is EXCELLENT! So savory and satisfying. I am always smiling when the plate is empty. And that takes awhile because it’s no small platter! Double patties on a brioche bun. I order mine with cheddar and a side of fresh jalapenos. The fries are hot and crisp with a healthy(Taste not blood pressure) dose of salt With that out of the way lets chat about The Bar. It’s an awesome, actual bar in Coral Gables. I wouldn’t say it’s a dive, but it certainly is unlike most of what the Gables has to offer these days. No pretension in here. Just a few tables, a wall of benches and a giant bar in the middle. Not too brightly lit. Walking in makes you feel like you are entering the neighboorhood watering hole. They have a great selection of beers and wines and spirits. The bartenders and waiters are always friendly and attentive. All the smoking is done outside! Things are done right at The Bar.

This is the only dive bar that I will consistently frequent. The people that work here are nice and efficient. It’s always clean, and they have an outdoor area to relax if you so choose. They also have board games, great music, the best beer selection in coral gables, and solid drinks and drink specials. The prices are also great. You can get three top shelf cocktails with tip for under $ 30. I used to frequent the place on Fridays, but had given up on the scene because it was always slam packed, and mainly filled with young kids. I came this past Friday, and it was wonderful in comparison. Not so packed that you can’t walk around, and space to dance without being bumped by some random drunk people. The bar is a great little bar and in my opinion the best asset to coral gables nightlife. It’s a great neighborhood spot and the bartenders are so efficient that you can always get a drink and never wait longer than 5 minutes. Don’t miss out.

I am new to the area and my friends and I wanted to check out Miracle mile. We didn’t know it was dead on a Saturday night except for this place. We just followed the music and we came here! This place is a very eclectic and has a diverse crowd that came here. The bartenders are very attentive and we didn’t have to wait for a long time to get drinks. The prices are also decent and they have a wide selection of beers on tap. The music was mostly hip hop and it was a good selection that night. The only thing that was annoying was the restroom line. They only have a few stalls and someone did number 2 in the stall which made it worse.

Back around 1947 this place was called the hofbrau, with signage being so expensive in those days… «The Bar,» owners who bought The Hofbrau use the same lettering and switched them around to display … «The Bar.» :boom: money saved. And so that’s how the name originated as told by the bartender who has been here since 99′. On the food side, the bar has recently changed their food menu about two months ago with the help of the chef from Josh’s deli(in bal harbour). I must say, I’m quite content with the changes. As the hot wings are the best I’ve had so far in all of Miami. I heard the competition is Titanic’s wings… Which I have not tried. Might have to do a comparision test. The staff here will take good care of you as long as you’re nice. The ambience is always the«local» feel. Their craft beer selection is superb. They have specials every day of the week depending on the weekday. Come here for a good time. Any time of the day. Street parking(metered).

Best place in the gables to grab a drink with a lively atmosphere. Ladies drink free on Fridays from 5:30 to 7:30, you can’t beat that. During the day and early evening this small and quaint bar is filled with tables, but come Friday and Saturday evenings you would never know. They clear out all of the seating to allow for drunken dancing. The drinks are typical like a typical dive bar, but it gets the job done. If you go on Friday or Saturday night you get to enjoy the beats or DJ Louie! He is the absolute best and plays all the songs you wanted to hear but didn’t realize it Aside from drinks and night life, they actually have a decent menu if you’re looking for a burger and fries. Great place to get the drunken munchies.
