Three starts for food plus an extra one for service. We came here for lunch after spending a few hours at the Corning Museum of Glass, and kids were hungry. Hubby and I ordered sandwiches, and they had some pasta and chicken fingers, the waitress seeing my little one about to start a meltdown, magically appeared in a second with crayons and a huge coloring book, a huge smile on my son’s face, disaster avoided, we enjoyed a quick and filling meal and hit the road to Canada.

I tried this place for dinner and I wasn’t impressed. I tried the stuffed chicken breast which is a specialty but couldn’t eat it all because it tasted weird. The real parmesan was good but not great. The soup was good as well as the desserts, we tried their homemade cheesecake and chocolate cake and they were both good.

We went to Sorge’s for dinner on a recent Saturday evening. Though the restaurant was packed, a window table opened right up for us! The owner himself seated us, and was very friendly and welcoming. The ambiance was great. Just what you expect from a nice, small italian restaurant. It was nice to see a local, family owned restaurant packed with happy, chattering patrons. ***they had a pasta buffet going, and I have to say– it kinda cheapened the vibe a bit. Perhaps this should be a lunch offering, only.*** Our server was chipper and very efficient. We had a toddler with us, and I could tell she was making extra effort to make sure service and food were prompt. Anyone with kids knows how much that is appreciated! We ordered: * a standard bottle of red wine for $ 27(all bottles were under $ 30– including a couple local selections). * the fried ravioli appetizer– very tasty, served on a bed of spring lettuce. Ample size. We were concerned when we saw there was no marinara for dipping, but the bruschetta it was served with was great. * the Mediterranean salad — this was the only disappointment, and the reason for loss of a star. The salad was huge and had lots of yummy toppings(artichokes, olives, etc.). It was DROWNED, SUFFOCATED in a visibly unsettling and overly sweet and thick dressing. We tried to scoot the top of the salad over to get to the bottom(assuming there was no dressing there), but it appeared that dressing had been added to the bottom of the plate, as well! The salad greens are spring lettuces, so a thick dressing is totally inappropriate. I hope they see this and strongly consider switching to a much lighter and more authentic house italian or greek dressing(which are simple: olive oil, red or balsamic vinegar, herbs). So bad, so sad. * the vegetarian platter– they automatically split this for us, and the portion on both plates was HUGE. No way this is the normal portion when served on one plate. But, hey– if they gave us more to split, that is awesome! And that’s the kind of vibe this place has– you feel like they really appreciate your business and want you to be happy! It was very tasty. Cheese lasagna, penne primavera, eggplant parmigiano all heaped and snuggling on one steaming plate. Herbs and parm are offered on the table, so you can season and cheese to your delight :) * child’s grilled cheese with French fries and applesauce– fries seemed house made and were delicious! Mommy snuck a few and dipped them in the marinara on her plate. Applesauce was a heaping helping of(seemingly) homemade yumminess. Had lots leftover to take back to the hotel for the little guy. *tiramisu– obviously house made, and perhaps among the best I have had. Could be a slightly larger portion, though. The owner(or soon to be owner) came and chatted with us for a bit(which I always find charming). He explained that he will be the third generation in his family to run the restaurant. He gleamed with pride. I hope things go very well for him and his family. You know, I just got a really cool Big Night(the movie) vibe while here. Fun. All in all, an exceptional experience. I felt like we were VIP’s! Had leftovers for days… that just got tastier and tastier. Left feeling very happy. Thanks for that, Sorge’s! We will never miss dinner at Sorge’s when we visit Corning :)

We ordered the chicken with broccoli alfredo and raviolis. There was too much sauce with the chicken with broccoli alfredo. For both dishes, the food tasted bland.

Went her Sunday after basically because little else was open on Sunday on Market St so props for that! The place They had a fire a few years ago so everything is pretty new. They did a good job with the décor and I love that is seemed very clean. Nothing worse than going out to eat and it being dirty. Makes me question eating there! The service Our waitress was great she was very attentive. She did a good job of explaining the menu and making sure our drinks were full. She was very friendly and kind in our dealings. The food I ordered the chicken Parmesan. It came with a small salad and Asparagus. Both sides were solid nothing special but decent. The chicken was one medium size piece that was alittle overcooked but not bad. The total for the meal was 17 bucks which for what I got was pricey! Just to compare I went to Tony R’s the Friday night before and had Chicken Sorrento which was a dollar more which is very similar to chicken parmesan but has grill eggplant over it. It also came with a salad and spaghetti. The portion size was much bigger and better quality. The verdict It was solid but nothing to bring me back. As I said the value isnt there from what I ordered. If you are the mood for Italian I would head over to Tony R’s!

Sorge’s was a hit with Carol and I Saturday night. Pasta buffet was a wonderful suggestion from Chris the owner. Light & tasty fresh pasta in many variations, and the Tomatoe sauce or gravy as You prefer was outstanding. Service was top of the line. Attentive prompt and informative. Salad bar was above par and the accommodations clean and a classy Mediterranean. Being so picky I was finally able to laugh and have a wonderful night with My lovely date.

Wonderful authentic italian meal from homemade pasta to fresh mozzarella. The bruschetta was to die for. A must stop if you are in corning. The atmosphere is amazing and extremely clean. Can’t wait to come back again.

Great food and atmosphere. Definitely the best(and only?) Italian restaurant in all of Corning. Whenever I have friends or family visiting from out of town, I always recommend they go to Sorge’s. The Saturday night pasta buffet has a decent selection, but seems rather pricey for a Corning-buffet.

Great food, great service! We are new to the area and decided to try Sorge’s. The owners are very warm, friendly, and welcoming. We were there on pasta buffet night so we were able to sample a little bit of everything. The salad bar was nicely stocked with different items to choose from and the pasta choices were delicious! It was a one of the best Italian meals we’ve had in a long time.

Fine Italian restaurant in downtown Corning. We had an excellent lunch at a comfortable corner window table. Our server was great, but the owner was also very attentive. Our favorite dish was the eggplant parmigiano, but the freshly naked Italian bread was also outstanding.

I came here for lunch the other day and honestly was not impressed with the food. I have been here on several other occasions throughout the past couple years and have felt the same way after leaving the restaurant each time. We were started off with bread and butter. The bread was basically a hamburger roll that you can buy at any grocery store, taken out of the bag, and plopped onto a white plate with butter next to it. For a «nice» restaurant, this was quite underwhelming to say the least. In fact, I don’t think any restaurant should be allowed to serve bread in this manner. If I had wanted a hamburger bun, I would have just driven to Wal-Mart and bought myself a pack of hamburger buns. For my entrée, I ordered the eggplant parmesan, which came with a side of spaghetti and a side salad. The side spaghetti can be ordered with sausage or two meatballs(I chose the meatballs). The side salad was a standard garden salad drowned in salad dressing. My eggplant parm, along with the spaghetti & meatballs, were mediocre. Everything seemed to lack flavor. I wouldn’t be surprised if the tomato sauce had also been bought from the grocery store. This would be a good place to go to if you like large portions that fill you up with carbs very quickly. On a more positive note, I did enjoy the ambiance. The restaurant has a warm, homey atmosphere. I also have no complaints about the service. Just disappointed with the food quality because I love Italian food, but the food here just doesn’t do it for me at all.

I read alot of reviews before coming here. I love seafood and i love pasta so i came for the seafood lasagna. I was not disappointed! It was fantastic! One of the best things i have ever ate. I ordered the mozzarella bruchetta for an appetizer and i could not believe how huge it was! This meal was outstanding. I look forward to coming again. My server was a nice young lady named Amanda who was extremely helpful. Her service was spot on. What a great nite!

THE best meatballs around! My wife normally doesn’t like red sauce and yet she loves theres. I highly recommend there sampler dishes so you can try a bit of everything. They even do a Wednesday and Saturday night buffet. Consistently great food and service! Did I mention the meatballs? lol…

Walked in here looking for a quick bite to eat before heading on the road home. The restaurant has a feel of a diner really. Seems that most people know each other and that gives it a nice homie kind of feel. The food — I was really not very impressed. My friends ordered the chicken parm with a side of spaghetti. I wanted the same chicken parm without the spaghetti. What I received was a chicken parm sandwich … no offer to get my actual order but I did get an apology. Not having enough time, I attempt to get my chicken off the bread(it’s a matter of principal now!) and somewhat succeeded but to be honest, the chicken was just too dry to enjoy and the sauce was left on the bread … I think I’ll try something else the next time I’m in the area.

Here for Thursday lunch and the place is packed. Definitely recommend the Thursday lunch buffet soup and salad bar. Interesting soups, especially prosciutto, chicken and sausage. The salad is the usual stuff but fresh and plenty of it.

Unilocal… NOPE has so much potential Waitress was clueless we kept hearing other server talk about all the specials and she only told us one. We kept asking her if there were any other ones and she told us no. Asked the hostess if there were any other specials and she said no. Meanwhile other server kept telling guests around us about the specials Ordered the meatballs in a bread bowl. Meatballs were good, but were lukewarm and for some reason put on top of arugula lettuce which was welted. They brag about the homemade sauce, but it was metallic even though it had potential My sister ordered the only special our waitress knew about the prime rib and it was so tough not edible … Crazy price at $ 23 Home made ravioli was very good … Order that with meatballs and the sausage(my sister had them give her the sausage to replace her prime rib… Good and spicey)

Came in for a quick breakfast the day after our daughters graduation. The breakfast buffet is decent – it’s a typical breakfast buffet. The staff was friendly and attentive. What more could you want. I don’t get how people can get worked up about a place that delivers as advertised. It’s been here for 50 years. They are doing something right.

The décor was better than the food! Bland sauce and over cooked spaghetti. Staff seemed pretentious, like they didn’t want us there. Manager or Owner was friendly to the«regulars». Maybe they don’t like out of towners?! I was surprised after all the positive reviews on Unilocal! Not impressed…

Lunch Review: Sorges offers an awesome lunch menu. A great causal setting for a sit down lunch. You can order an Italian inspired sandwich, wrap, soup, main dish, etc, all for a reasonable price. Topped off by very friendly, polite staff. I’ve tried three of the lunch offerings; –chicken caprese sandwich: excellent, my favorite so far. Grilled chicken with melted mozz on a tasty roll. –sorges burger: if you like meatballs with delicious tomato sauce, then give this burger a shot. The portion is huge. I enjoyed it, but was a little heavy for lunch. –veal parm sandwich: good portion size, veal was crispy, bread was great. Overall happy with the dish. Glad I’ve been introduced to the lunch offerings, nice job Sorges staff.

At 10:00 am on a Sunday this restaurant was at about 50% capacity. Our party of four was able to walk in and we were given our pick of four tables for four. We were immediately taken care of by our waitress who took our drink orders, but after that the service became considerably less attentive(we had to seek out our own butter, syrup, and coffee refills). We were offered up the all-you-can-eat buffet($ 9.95 for eggs, french toast, sausage, bacon, etc) or items from their regular menu and we all opted for the standard menu. The waffles were overcooked and sent back for french toast. The french toast was very soggy(the edges were good, but the middle of the bread went uneaten). Next time I’m in Corning I’d probably opt to make something for myself. From searching on Unilocal it looks like this is one of the few places that offers breakfast in Corning and I assume the limited options drive people in here.
