We had our wedding toast celebration at IL fornaio’s back patio. From beginning to end, everything was wonderful. The crew was super helpful, managers were awesome and the food was amazing! Huge thanks to their talented chef! If you want to have a small party with your loved ones, you should consider IL Fornaio! They are super professional, helpful and thoughtful people. It was a pleasure to work with you Lorri.

Been here a few times, all were specially events and all were great because we had exclusive staff. Today, we are here as a group of 8. We arrived at 7:00pm with reservations. Waited 10 minutes to be seated. It’s now 7:43 pm and our food orders have not been taken yet. It’s a Thursday, the waitress is overwhelmed with 9 tables, three tables have 8 – 12 people, most have 2 – 3. She has helpers but she is setting tables, running for drinks, directing helpers, etc. the waitress stopped in the middle of taking our orders when one guest had a question. She said, «Look the menu over, I’ll be back in 5 minutes», then she left to service another table and came back 10 mins later. The guest still had her question, which the waitress still didn’t answer. We looked up the answer on our smartphone. I can understand the waitress being overwhelmed and her frustration but don’t expect customers to go at your speed and you need to expect to answer questions. The question ??? What is burrata? What this place needs is some training. All the issues tonight were management issues. Wait staff should not set or bus tables when they are trying to take orders from 50 people in a 15 minute timeframe. One guy should be responsible for refilling water glasses, not the random staff member because someone is going to forget. Lots of issues but I digress. A sneaky thing the waitress did was give the impression that salad was included with the entrée. After someone ordered their entrée she would ask, «what salad would you like». When someone asked if it was included, she said it was a side salad. Didn’t say yes or no, but the bill showed four $ 12 – 15 «side salads». Overall everyone liked the food. And it arrived 15 minutes after our orders were entered into the computer. Fresh and unique tastes. For 8 of us the bill was $ 265. No appetizers, one $ 34 bottle of wine, one soda, four«side salads» and eight $ 18 – 29 entrees, no desserts. Not bad for 8 and the food was good but we left a 10% tip and slipped the bus boy/bread boy/water boy a $ 20. The chef has some great creations but management needs to work on the staff. Doesn’t matter how good the food is if your staff suck. We won’t be back until we hear from others there is a change in attitude. We host a lot of small parties and larger events but not here, for now.

Had a wonderful evening last night, It’s one of the nicest spot in Coronado, beautiful views but most of all excellent service — Guido our waiter was really great and the food was pretty good too, Ravioli Lucana was delicious, and Penne with the Vodka sauce really good. We’ll recommend Il Fornaio to all our friends and family.

Moderately dismissive service at the front, no warm welcome in nor a parting goodbye upon exit. There were two associates at the front reception and both the male and female were dismissive. Which only confirmed my negative overall review. We sat in the outdoor patio area, beautiful view. Unfortunately, that is the only positive takeaway from the dining experience. We ordered a gluten free pizza Fradiavola and the Linguine Mare Chiaro. I asked if we could substitute the linguine pasta with angel hair pasta, the waiter responded yes absolutely. Upon meal delivery, the Fradaivola pizza dough was soft and flimsy in the center, barely edible and undercooked. I didn’t notice the pasta was linguine when the waiter came back to check to see how we were doing. I was perplexed at the pizza dough. When I realized it was linguine, I tried numerous times to flag down the waiter. He came back 5 – 6 times to the dock to check on the other tables, but never glanced to our table or how I was looking back trying to flag him down. Apparently dismissive service is prominent at all areas of this establishment. My other dining patrons were hungry, and were exhausted from waiting so we ate the seafood from the pasta dish, not the pasta. When the busser came by to clear our plates, it was when we informed him we substituted the Angel hair pasta. He said he would get our waiter. I told him about the situation and he said he would get us new pasta. We were tired and did not want to argue or cause a situation, so I said just put it to go. The wait for the pasta was horrible, the waiter did come by again to apologize but that was expected or the least he could do at this point. Upon check in at our hotel, the restaurant only put the pasta in the dish and not the seafood. Overall we are extremely disappointed with this dining experience. We are visiting from Seattle and our friend recommended to visit Coronado when we were in SD. The dismissive service, lack thereof service and sincerity, and cheap remedies are what I have established about this restaurant and will absolutely not recommend this restaurant at all.

Favorite Italian place around here. Plus the view outside is amazing. Food is really really tasty and fresh, all sea foods are super fresh as well.

Went here for dinner with friends last weekend and was very impressed with the food, prices, service, and of course, THEAMAZINGVIEW. We were staying in downtown San Diego so it was a fun and convenient excuse to hop on the Coronado Ferry(for $ 9.50 round trip) to watch the sunset on our way to dinner.

Eggs Benedict for mothers day brunch was very good. I was skeptical about eating breakfast at an Italian place but I was wrong. 10⁄10.

The service was AMAZING! The food was good. We started with the calamari appetizer. We had been craving it for so long! We can’t tell if it was amazing or if it tasted so damn good from calamari depravation. The cannellonis are delicious. They are big enough to share. We also ordered a pasta dish with chicken, a white wine sauce, and other veggies… Pass. Honestly, 2 bites at most and it was a total waste. No one at the table liked it. For dessert we ordered the dessert sampler. It was nice. They view has to be the best on the island. Overall, it was a great evening.

Located right on the water, the views can not be beat. My friends had their rehearsal dinner here at the restaurant and the entire experience was amazing. The service was unparalleled. The servers were attentive, helpful, and lovely. They could have done a little better with water service, but everything else was on point. The food wasn’t the best Italian food i’ve ever had but it was still quite good! The penne alla vodka was tasty. Not homemade pasta, but it was cooked well. I can’t speak to the prices, since we were guests of the grooms family. I would come back here when in Coronado!

So, I will reluctantly admit that Italian food is a rare treat for me… Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE anything that is bread, pasta, carb loaded. But in full disclosure, the stuff isn’t the healthiest and I for the most part LOVE to eat healthy food(I am a veggie nut)… But, a few weeks ago when I was in Coronado for a triathlon I was stoked that not only was I able to eat WHATEVER my little heart desired but I was even more excited that it was going to include PASTA! When I lived in Los Angeles, I always loved going to Il Fornaio, so when I saw there was one on the island It was a must stop for me. Per usual, service was excellent, food was delicious(I got the Calamari and the Capellini al Pomodoro with Scallops!). It’s a must if your on coronado and what an amazing view of the bay, delicious food and great service

The restaurant is a nice two minute walk along the water from the Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa. It doesn’t matter where your table is located, you would get a good view of the water anywhere in the main dining room. There were six in our party and we were seated right away in a large booth. Our waitress was Ana, who provided us with very good service. Insalata Di Bietole– beet salad. Not enough beets. It was more a salad with beets. Pollo Toscano — Rosemary flavored chicken served with sauté vegetables and roasted potatoes. It was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Very good. Linguine Mare Chiaro — linguini with mixed seafood. Very good. Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese — Linguini Bolognese — average Grilled seafood misto — Husband didn’t think the scallop was fresh. I didn’t have any scallop, but the shrimp, whole calamari, white fish, and salmon were nicely prepared. The order came with really good roasted broccolettes and potatoes. It was a bit too oily. Marguerita pizza — delicious. Cappellacci Di Zucca — Butter squash ravioli — it wasn’t smooth or creamy. Average. White fish in red caper sauce — delicious. Most people come here for the view as the food is average. The service is good.

This is a nice restaurant with a gorgeous view of the city skyline. I was a little disappointed we were unable to sit on the patio but it was closed for a private party. The menu itself was really confusing so ask the waiter to walk you through it as we found out there was a separate wine list that is not included on the regular menu with featured wines. I really enjoyed the pasta I ordered but wouldn’t recommend the pizza. It is a wood fired pizza but I don’t think the crust is thin enough. The minestrone soup was amazing so I would order this again.

I have 2 different reviews here. We arrived a little early so we sat at the bar to have a drink. It took forever to get a drink and it wasn’t busy at all. They just work at a different pace here. I’d give the bar a 1.5 star. Restaurant I’d give a 3.0. Service was good, even for restaurant week. Food was just average. Was very disappointed. I say this place is OK, but I’d never suggest it to anyone or make plans to come here. I’d only go back if I was in the area and it was convenient.

We were here for a work event and it turned out to be a great event. The view is amazing and the food and service were great. The waiters were on it and the food came quickly without feeling rushed. The staff was so friendly and made the experience an awesome one. The portions were pretty large and the food was okay. You come here for the service, ambiance and view, not really the food. I would definitely come here if you want to impress your date.

Pros: The ambience, the views Cons: Bad service, mediocre & overpriced food I’m giving two stars mainly for the views and the ambience of the restaurant. But other than that, nothing about this restaurant was impressive. The waiter was distracted and came across as rude(although unintentionally I suppose). The food was mediocre at best and the menu choices were very limited.

Came back here with my wife after a few years and they didn’t disappoint. The service was incredible! We were greeted by 2 smiling hostesses and we were seated quickly. We chose the patio even though it’s been pretty cold in SD and with the amount of heaters and the fireplace it was extremely comfortable. The waiter greeted us and took our drink order quickly and the manager came by twice during the night to make sure that we were more than happy. The food was incredible and timing between our appetizer, dinner and dessert were on point. We will definitely be back!

Food was delicious, we had a lovely informative server, and we got to look at the beautiful ocean while enjoying a nice meal. The location is perfect and they validate for parking which gives you 3 hours free; the perfect amount of time for a relaxing dinner and exploring the surrounding shops/views. We came for lunch around 330 on a Friday afternoon and were seated immediately. We were greeted by our wonderful server, Monica, who was upbeat spunky, knowledgeable and made our experience even better than it would have been. Props to you Monica!!! I will absolutely request her next time we come in. All of her recommendations were spot on. We tried the calamari appetizer which was good. Plain, just fried with marinara, but the flavors were very nice. The bread and olive oil that they serve complimentary was also very good. For entrees we tried 3 and shared. Unfortunately I don’t know the menu names because they are in Italian. The butternut squash ravioli was TODIEFOR!!! I highly recommend it.

Great location, lovely scenery, beautiful décor, amazing food, and 3 hour free parking validation, what more could a girl ask for?! Monday nights is social hour at the bar, great deals, $ 4 beer, $ 5 wine, and $ 6 appetizers all night! :) Came here for restaurant week, $ 40 for 4 courses, they have a regular prix fixe menu 3 course menu and it’s $ 32.95 if you want to opt for that. Ordered the squash soup, taglietelli for pasta meal, mixed grill seafood for entrée, and the gelato ice cream. Grilled seafood was amazing! Definitely a wondrous selection of mixed seafood, they weren’t kidding when they said that! My sister ordered the pork chop and oh my gosh, it was huge! great portions if you ask me! The pork chop was really good too, super juicy and cooked to perfection. I would highly highly recommend this place, service was great too and just a lovely restaurant in general, glad that I tried this place out for restaurant week! Wouldn’t mind coming back again for the regular menu! :)

Fine Dining sure, location is great with spectacular view of our lovely city. The food I’m unimpressed. Ordered the veal and my partner ordered the spinach Ravioli. If that’s how they make it in Tuscany, I’m in for a surprise when I visit next August. Our server was tentative, but asked when asked for Rosemary bread. He said they are out for the night. Asked the buser, he brought it in 2 mins. Did not appreciate you lying to us MRBOLDY. The calamari felt short too… We did enjoy his wine recommendation…
