The food is great, but it is SO overpriced, it’s almost not worth it.

Great place for lunch! Had the salmon salad and it was a huge filet of salmon! Service was super friendly. I can’t believe it’s closed!!!

Best. Bacon. Ever. Rhino is yummy, and has great service. We were entering at the tail end of breakfast and they warmly welcomed us. Our server, whose name I wish I remembered was so so sweet and attentive. I did notice that after we sat down, they were turning people away as they were transitioning into lunch. Not sure how I feel about management turning guests away, but the food is great regardless and worth coming back when they re-open for the next major mealtime. Can’t wait to try dinner here!

R.I.P Rhinoceros Grill. I think I know why you had to go; I heard the rumors. Your burgers and salads and specials were scrumptious. You will be dearly missed. Goodbye to one if the best restaurants in Coronado, and may whoever is responsible for making the lives of so many tenants miserable get a taste if his own medicine. This is reprehensible.

I came here for brunch on a Saturday and had a good time and enjoyed their food. The place has indoor and outdoor seating with large windows so you can enjoy the sun and the scenery looking at Coronado’s most popular street. I’m not sure if they are open for dinner. The prices are very affordable and I also enjoyed the mimosas here. The service is super friendly and you can tell it’s a local joint coveted by many. Good thing I got here somewhat early. I parked on the street but I didn’t notice a parking lot.

I think overpriced, underwhelming food is probably(unfortunately) pretty par-for-the-course in downtown Coronado, and Rhinoceros Café played its part. I had the chicken fettucine florentine and my friend had the lobster bisque and the trout. The pasta dish had plenty of spinach and red pepper, but the flavor still seemed a little lackluster, and the chicken had that flash-frozen tenderized texture that belies any hope of freshness. The lobster bisque was delicious(very, very creamy– that can be good and bad!) and my friend said her fish was well seasoned but a bit over-cooked. They only offer steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes on the side. Nice that you can sit outside to people watch, at least.

After a nice long walk on Coronado Beach, I was just near the point of cranky-cause-I’m-hungry. Quick!-get this girl something to eat! Their Thai Chicken Salad sounded enticing; we ordered it minus the noodles. When it arrived, I accepted our server’s offer of fresh ground pepper on top. It’s a no-frills salad; just romaine lettuce, grilled chicken breast, a few huge slices of cucumber, and some thin slices of red onion. The dressing is a promising marriage of Italian and Asian. It basically tastes like Italian dressing with sesame oil – with a hint of sweetness. The chicken breast was cooked very well; flavorful and super moist. I enjoyed this salad immensely. Service was pleasant and quick. The décor was simple and modern, but character was added by the rhinoceros decorations and rhino heads made of different materials hanging on the walls. Since all the outdoor tables were taken, we sat at a window table and both faced outside. It turned out great since we still got to watch the passing crowd but without the wind. I was extremely happy with my choice to come here. I got a tasty, bikini-friendly meal that allowed me to enjoy the rest of my time at the beach.

Definitely one of our more enjoyable lunch dates. Hubby and I headed here for lunch. No wait line just a few people eating inside. Perfect we were acknowledged as soon as we entered and directed to sit wherever we wanted… great start. We were immediately brought menus and waitress was very attentive. My husband ordered the lobster Bisque that I ended up indulging in as well… I couldnt help myself the first bite and my eyes lit up… lol…delish! I ordered the turkey club and tortilla soup. Hubby ordered salmon sandwich… OMG this was amazing!!! This place would have got 5stars but I wasnt as much of a fan of my soup as I was my hubby’s. Way to many different beans was more like white chili than tortilla chicken soup. Will definitely come back and try to yummy looking pasta next.

The name says exotic international… but the food is all italian with a few asian touches thrown in. A very minimalist clean, well lit interior greets an entrant, made quite pleasant by friendly welcoming stuff and a vibe that feels very low key and informal even with the white tablecloths on the tables. On a recent visit we tried the shrimp appetizer which was 5 nicely sized shrimp perfectly tender and juicy in a nice olive oil and butter sauce flecked with garlic and red pepper flakes that added a touch of very pleasant heat to the dish. Not only were the shrimp great, but the sauce was made for being mopped up with the warm bread they serve you at the table. A dining companion ordered the Thai salad only because it appeared to be so incongruous with the menu and found it to be quite a pleasant surprise. Chicken on fresh greens with a dressing that was gingery, herby and citrousy with just a gentle touch of sugar to bring balance to the mix. The pastas while nothing spectacular were well made(though a bit beyond al dente for me) with fresh tasting sauces and mushrooms for the pasta with mushrooms and a very nice blend of fresh zucchini, broccoli, squash, fennel and peppers in the case of the primavera. Couple this with a nice few glasses of wine, a good time was declared by all!

Being a new transplant to Coronado from Nor Cal, I’ve kind of set out on a mission to try all the different restaurants. There are some great places here in Coronado… like over at the Landing! But for breakfast, hands down it’s the Rhinoceros Café & Grill! It started with the coffee… very, very good coffee. I don’t remember what I ordered was called… a Spanish or Mexican dish but it was incredable. I mean I went in thinking I wasn’t that hungry but I couldn’t stop eating this thing(HUGE!) and nearly made myself sick… it was just that good. I’m sure I’ll be going back this coming weekend… just to try another dish. Treat yourself to something really special… try the Rhinoceros Café & Grill.

I think Rhinoceros can do much better at this wonderful location. Went in for weekday dinner. Ambience was okay, Food was average and the service was normal. nothing special about this place.

While in town for a wedding, the boyfriend and I stopped in here for breakfast, drawn in by the lovely patio and the fact that there weren’t people piling out the door waiting for a table. We were promptly seated outside and greeted by our awesome waitress, who seemed to actually be happy to be at work. Not a common phenomenon in Memphis! I had a pretty standard eggs, bacon, potatoes, and biscuit plate, which was all very well done, while the boyfriend got the Chilaquiles«Rhinoceros,» which was right up his alley. And being Southerners, we just had to try their biscuits and sausage gravy! The verdict: while these were not the traditional Southern style that we’re used to(and to their credit, they weren’t being sold that way), they were excellent. The biscuits are more scone-like in texture, and the gravy was much richer than is usually served. The coffee was also really good and kept topped off throughout the meal, and even with the extras we ordered, the check was very reasonable. What a fabulous breakfast!

I’ve been wanting to try the Rhinoceros for quite some time… so I was ecstatic when I actually walked by when they were open! My girl friend ate here previously, and picked out her entrée almost immediately. Me, on the other hand– read the menu twenty times, as if something new were to appear. lol I suppose it would only be fair to mention my diet is Paleo– and 100% of the items on the menu did not fall into that category. However, even if I were to «break» the paleo for that meal– nothing sounded appetizing. So, I choose the blt– consuming the bacon(I’m pretty positive that wasn’t paleo friendly as it would not be «nitrate free» or uncured) the lettuce and the tomato… The sandwich delivered was a monster! Seriously, it was like 10 packs of bacon was shoved between bread, one piece of lettuce and a sliver of tomato… I suppose if I were that much of a bacon fanatic, this would have been the jackpot of all blt’s! But, who the heck can fit a sandwich of that enormity in their mouth? I picked apart one half, nibbling on a few pieces of the no-flavor cardboard-textured bacon, and the veggies. The sandwich was so embarrassing actually, that every person who walked past(our patio table) stared and commented the size of it. I ended up covering it with my napkin just so people wouldn’t see what was on the plate. lol Our server was an older woman, who was more interested in listening in to my conversation and giving her two sense, than giving exceptional service. Wait, I just said, «exceptional». Let me be fair and say mediocre service… She did not even offer that! While waiting for her to come back to our table so I could ask for the check– she ignored us– to the point where we had to say«excuse me!» and flag her down.(Which I hate having to do! Flag someone down? Horrible for me to do) But! The longer I waited for my check, the hungrier I got… lol I tipped her generously, but there’s no way I would ever step foot back at the Rhinoceros. I went to another restaurant right after that so I could finally have some lunch!

The Rhinoceros grill is a standout from many others on Orange avenue simply because of it’s location. It’s in close proximity to the Hotel del/beach and it also sits in a very architecturally interesting building. We chose not to eat inside. The outdoor seating is right in front of the restaurant and perfect for people watching. The service started off very prompt and efficient but only grew worse as the evening went on. Our waitress seemed to forget about us from time to time, but she never gave an attitude which I did appreciate. Food wise– The dinner itself(southwestern meatloaf with veggies and potatoes) was very good! The meatloaf was jam packed with vegetables, and well cooked throughout. Vegetables on the side were decent, and the potatoes were light and fluffy, probably the standout of the dish. We had the chocolate cake for desert which was beyond disappointing. It looked like it was going to be the highlight of our meal, but ended up being the worst part of it. The cake was dry and actually didn’t really taste like chocolate whatsoever. It was a bummer. But overall, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with Rhinoceros. They have very good food, paired with an interesting location. I’ve been here a few times, and have found it to be consistent.

I’ve passed by here twice for lunch and twice this place has satisfied my taste buds. It started off when I was looking for a place to eat on my lunch break. Walking down Orange Avenue, I see a couple of plates with a pretty good presentation that just caught the corner of my eye, so I had to stop by and try it out. I didn’t care what the sandwich was, it just looked good, so I asked the waitress to get me a plate. The sandwich was a «Slow Roasted Pork Sandwich» which I found pretty tasty. The sandwich had a sweet and tangy mango glaze, mixed in with the pork which I found to be very tender and flavorful. The sandwich came along with a side order of Coleslaw which was icing to the cake, because I have a thing for good coleslaw. Anyways, the second time I passed by here, I ordered the«Penne a la Vodka» off a recommendation from a few friends that have eaten here. They told me that this dish was OFFTHECHARTS good. After ordering this dish, I have to agree. This dish was loaded with sauteed mushrooms, penne, a creamy cheese sauce, tomatoes, parsley, a dinner roll and the dish was so huge, I had to order a doggie bag(box) to go… trust me… it made good leftovers. That being said, the staff is nice, the service was pretty good and I got two delicious meals each time I visited here. 5 Stars!!!

My parents and I went here for a late-ish breakfast on a Friday. It hadn’t been our first choice, but the first choice was busy and chaotic so we came to Rhinoceros and were seated right away. It was suggested by staff that we *not* sit by the windows because it got quite hot in those seats. As it turns out, the whole restaurant was pretty warm, so I’m not sure it would’ve mattered. Some fans or a/c woulda been nice, Rhinoceros. The three of us ordered drinks and all settled on the same dish — chilaquiles. And a biscuit, can’t forget the biscuit! What ultimately came out of the kitchen was a single plate of chilaquiles and a biscuit. Dad sat waiting for our food to come out as well and eventually our server came over to see if we needed anything else. What?! Apparently she thought that we’d ordered one entrée and one biscuit for three people. Seeing how massive the portion size was, I can *almost* see where she was coming from, but that still seems like something that should be clarified at the time the order was taken. Mom and I ended up having to wait(and wait) while they made ours, so Dad was finished by the time our food came out. The food was very good, but the service and atmosphere were a bit more meh. I’m not sure I’d rush to come to Rhinoceros again, but if I was in the area and other places had a long wait…

I’m not allergic to anything or on a super strict vegan diet. I’m not trying to make anyone’s life difficult, but the server was totally accommodating and made some great suggestions for me. Although I’m sure in his mind he was thinking, «What a spoiled vegan wannabe!» haha. Garden salad with a mango-balsamic vinaigrette– It was quite large and filling. Loved the capers in the dressing! I also got a side of fries. I know, fries and a salad? A strange sounding combo, but I couldn’t help it! French fries are my kryptonite. My bf, who is not on a vegan diet, ordered the grilled salmon sandwich on grilled focaccia bread. He was pretty impressed. Outdoor seating is always a plus, especially when you have your furry friend with you. We didn’t have to ask for a bowl of water for the doggie; the server pointed out a bowl right as we sat down. He checked on us periodically without being overbearing and was very polite.

While showing my out-of-town family Coronado Island, we decided to stop here for lunch, around 1:00pm. The place was full, but they were able to accomodate our party of 5(haha). It took forever for the waitress to bring us water(probably ten minutes after we were seated). Then, it took even longer to get our order put in. I’m not sure if our waitress was new or not, but she seemed to be standing around a lot while the owner(she was an older woman with dark hair that I am assuming was the owner) was busting her a$$ doing everything else. 15 minutes after getting water, we ask the busy«owner» if she would take our order. She did, and she also took the other party of 5’s order, and they were seated before us! The food arrived(finally) and they’re lucky it was worth the wait. My mom enjoyed the patty melt and I had the cobb salad(an all time fav). We also ordered their onion rings. Oh lord they were THEBEST onion rings I’ve ever eaten(even better than Hodad’s!). Dip them in ranch and you might as well make your way to the sand and just die. They are so good!
