Perfect! Yes, as others have mentioned, it can be a bit pricey, but, jus like buying something great, you’re paying for the amazing perks. The views are spectacular. The food is delicious, altho relatively smaller portions, it’s better for my waistline anyway. The service was a 10 — shout out to ReyRey who, despite our seating 15 minutes before close, was helpful with recommendations, attentive, nice and happy to say«take your time» and«enjoy,» with a smile.(I noticed he was just as pleasant with the table who sat at closing time!)

I never make it out to the Del but love the Hotel and the view. Had a colleague in town so figured we treat ourselves to a nice lunch. It was Monday after lunch rush so we were seated quickly, but no one approached our table for a minimum of 15 minutes. After a food runner brought us water and bread. It was 10 minutes before the waiter came out and did not great us, or take or drink order, just rudely and rushed ran up to the table and said«What are you having» while I had to stop him from leaving the table to even order a coke. For a $ 70 lunch, ordering fish and chips and soda for the two of us, I was left feeling sick after the meal and regretting the decision to dine there.

The line for the regular restaurant would have kept us waiting for 45 minutes, but thankfully I found an empty table in the bar before we all dropped from starvation and thirst. It took only five minutes for our waitress to notice we hadn’t been helped yet, which was great because it was a very full bar. I ordered the bacon burger just the way I like it and it came out perfectly. It tasted absolutely wonderful and the iced tea was great! The fries are to die for. The food came out the same way for the rest of my family. The only reason I’m giving it four stars is due to the wait that I imagine most people have to sit through on a busy and hot day… 45 minutes is a very long time to wait when you haven’t had anything to eat or drink all day, plus the heat would make that wait excruciating. Besides that, it’s a great choice!

Started with LOBSTERBISQUE and CRABCAKE as appetizer, and ordered the SURFANDTURF and SEABASS for main entrée. Lobster bisque was a bit salty for my taste. Creamy texture, and rich in flavor. Crab cake was succulent in texture and definitely filled with crab instead as oppose to lower end restaurants where you taste more batter than seafood. Appetizers were pretty good overall. I would order the same appetizers again. Surf and turf, the lobster was properly prepared where it’s springy without rubbery. There was also quite a bit of meat in my lobster without me having to work too hard for it, which was a treat since I’m so used to breaking my own shells in Asian restaurants. The mignon was a bit more cooked than I would’ve liked. Requested medium, got closer to medium well/well. Well salted/peppered didn’t stand out. Sea bass probably the best of the three in regards with taste and flavor. But overall entrees were not disappointing but also did not stand out. Perhaps because of the price point, I would like to be impressed with the food served, but due to food being good but not memorable. Restaurant is an «okay» in my book.

Sheerwater is considered the«low end» restaurant option at the Hotel del Coronado, though you wouldn’t know if from the prices: $ 30-$ 55 per plate. Location was the key reason, facing the back lawn and beach behind the hotel. The food was also surprisingly good, though not quite on par with the cost. We actually ate dinner here twice during our stay in the area, mainly because it was walking distance, and our daughters LOVED it. It didn’t hurt that they were treated like royalty by the staff. Plus it reminded them of our favorite, family vacation spot. Namely — with the sun setting through the palm trees — it almost felt like Hawaii. Almost. Here’s what we had in no particular order: Crab cake trio:($ 24) Fantastic. Filled with a good amount of Maryland blue crab(though I can only assume it was from frozen, being out of season). Served on top of a nice, sweet corn remoulade.(4.5*) NY strip:($ 46) Everyone who got this enjoyed it, though the plates that came to the table weren’t all cooked to specification(e.g. ‘medium-rare’ was sometimes closer to ‘medium’). I tried a few bites from my daughter’s plate and thought it was good, but not the best I’ve had(or made).(3.5*) Kurabota Pork Picatta:($ 35) Pretty tasty and unique, but a little over-salted. Since I was hungry, I was happy with the surprisingly large portion, but it was overpriced for what it was(3*) Chilean Sea bass:($ 39) Small portion but cooked perfectly and a nice, subtle sauce(4*) Our first night here was a lighter dinner, but on our second night we splurged a bit. The wife and I each ordered cocktails before and the kids had desserts after. When the check came I couldn’t help but notice that our meal was more than one night at our nearby hotel(The Glorietta Bay Inn). Overall it was a nice meal in a pleasant setting, but as it turns out it really was California, not Hawaii. With so many good and less expensive restaurants in the area, I’m not sure I’d race to come back here. 3.5 stars overall. But rounding up or the stellar service.

First sign: Hot Tea came with a dirty cup, an open previously used mini personal jar of Honey! And a nasty spoon! For the staff to assume that they have inexperienced diners is a massive mistake! This hotel caters to people from around the world and should in no way decide to lower its standard based on incorrect assumptions as to who they serve! Carlos our waiter acted as though he desired to be upstanding, but when that dirty tea service was handed to our table we knew otherwise!

As expected from a nice hotel in a touristy area; the price of food was on the high side but still tasty. Service was excellent and ambiance was also excellent. Our server Gary took good care of us. We ordered several appetizers and entrees, however the apps came way later and d/t this inconvenience he comped us for apps and also comped us 3 free deserts.

Sheerwater was the best part of our stay at the Del Coronado. Its pricey but the food was great — I didn’t even realize it was the hotel’s main restaurant and not a «standalone.» To start, its by the ocean so views and seaside breeze are amazing. It’s huge so we were always guaranteed an immediate seat. There are heat lamps outside for when it gets chilly. And the service is quite good. The first night we went Armando was our server and he was on top of things. It was a busy Saturday night on Mother’s Day weekend but he had no problem keeping up with our needs. So food wise, over the course of the two dinners, we tried the oysters, lobster bisque, crab cakes, mussels, halibut entrée, and rib eye entrée. The oysters were delicious and fresh. Lobster bisque was good but could have used some chunks of lobster — the flavor was good but it seemed to be more cream and butter than lobster. The crab cakes were delicious! Crispy crunchy with a yummy green dipping sauce. The mussels were good but a little too salty and rich for me. I like a more delicate flavored mussel dish and this one was more spicy and smokey. The halibut was alright — bit on the dry side. Now, the rib eye was amazing! The star of the show. It comes with this truffle butter sauce and honey glazed carrots which my 2 year old loved. We ordered it on two separate nights. The first night I will honestly say it was the 2nd best steak I’ve had at a restaurant — my favorite steakhouse is Mastros so that’s saying a lot. It was cooked better than other true steakhouses have cooked their steaks for me. Perfect medium rare, juicy with all the marbling rendered to perfection. The 2nd night we ordered it was not as good though. Marbling wasn’t fully rendered. I’m curious to know how their desserts are but all in all the dinner menu is top notch. Moving onto the breakfast buffet. It was set up beautifully and what was great is that they didn’t seem to sacrifice quality for variety. They had a few stations and it felt like the food items were chosen purposefully. I love oatmeal so let’s start with that. The oatmeal station had a variety of toppings to choose from — all set out in pretty glass jars with wooden spoons. Toppings included dried banana chips, dried blueberries, nuts, green raisins and of course brown sugar. The fruit station was next door and the fruit was perfectly ripe on both days — not over or underripe. The hot bar had eggs, two types of bacon, three types of sausage(I had the pork — yum and juicy), potatoes, cinnamon buns, meatball soup(which was DELICIOUS) and even a healthy option each day(eg. quinoa, zucchini). I will say the healthy option was super bland both days — it’s almost like they knew people wouldn’t be eating much of it. They had an omelette station and bagel and lox station but I didn’t try either. I did order their crab eggs benedict a la carte one day which was basically a super crispy crab cake on an eggs Benedict — aka really good! Cute little touches was what made the experience really enjoyable for me – yogurt parfaits beautifully arranged in stemmed glasses, wheatgrass shots, and packs of cold coconut water to name a few. Coffee was also solid. I’m not a fan of the Del Coronado — but I loved Sheerwater.

We have come to the Del and/or to Sheerwater at least 1 time per month and this experience was the worst by far. Terrible service at breakfast to the point where the waiter just stood there and watched me as I poor hot coffee all over(on accident). It took 30 minutes to get creamer. We were packed it like sardines and are table had no view of the ocean, but rather the area where the coffee and water was. The waiter seemed very helpful to the other guests, but was no where to be found for us. Many of the food items seemed to be not fresh. Not sure what’s going on, but I don’t think I will be dining here again. I used to love this place.

While the setting of Sheerwater is sensational, take that away and all you have is a tired, self-satisfied hotel brunch spot. So, decide if its really worth big bucks to sit at a table sort of near the ocean. We were given the side-eye for asking to be seated in the shade, and had to ask two people for help with the umbrella. The waiter did not offer bring us a mimosa(hello –it’s brunch…); when we saw others clearly having them served, we had to ask for one. It was not worth the price. The buffet is also expensive and does not include anything memorable. Of course, you have to get up and serve yourself, yet they still charge an arm and a leg. If you love the smell of entitlement in the morning, this is your place.

This review is only for breakfast since those are the only meals I had here during my weeklong stay at the hotel. Great service and omelette station with your traditional breakfast hot spread. If only I was a granola chomping Southern Californian, I probably would have appreciated their wheatgrass shots and gluten-free muffins.

The breakfast here is better than the dinner. The food was expensive, and did not meet my expectations. Cool place because of the historic nature, but most likely not a repeat for me… The service is exceptional, and that makes it a little bit better. This is not totally fair, as we were part of a corporate event… and maybe I’m just being picky :-)

This place is simply extortionate for what it is! I mean, how on earth can a measly salad(no meat, no fish) cost $ 21.00??! Ooooh, let me guess — HOTELCORONADO! What is interesting always with such places is that, it doesn’t seem to matter to them how many disappointed customers there are(and from the reviews — there ARE!), for as long as they can draw in the $$$$$ one way or another — why should they care?

A friend and I had dinner here with her two young children while I was visiting San Diego for work. The outside patio was beautiful! We loved the heatlamps(even in February it felt tropical). Our service and the food was great. When we arrived the sun was just setting and we were able to take in the gorgeous ocean views from the historic hotel on the beach. I loved the history behind the Hotel del Coronado and it felt a little magical to be sitting there on such a lovely night. Her kids are almost four and 2.5 years old. They are well-behaved and the staff was great with them. Our server, Manuel, brought them out fruit kabobs and they loved them! The kids also loved their cheeseburgers. My friend had a margarita and I had a glass of rose. I wish I would have tried one of the cocktails on the menu, as they all sounded good and I can have rose at home. Oh well, next time I will be more adventurous! For our entrees I got the Chilean Sea Bass and my friend had the pan seared Rainbow Trout. Both of us raved about how fresh and perfectly cooked the fish was! I almost always order Sea Bass when it’s on a menu, and this was some of the best I’ve ever had. The risotto was also great. The only(very slight) complaint was how long it took to get the check. By the time we’d finished eating the kids were really sleepy and it took longer than we’d hoped to get settled up. Still, the service was fantastic! As we were leaving there was an acoustic guitar playing in the bar. Absolutely great was to end such a fun visit.

Fantastic place to enjoy a cup of tea in the morning and a bite to eat. They have a killer brunch set up or you can order off the menu or choose whatever you like and they will charge you just for that. The waiters are amazing and sweet. The views are off the chain. I sipped my tea, toast and eggs all while watching the waves crash against the sand, locals running by, guests getting ready for a cycle class next to the sand and a yoga class on the sand. They bring heaters and enclose you in so you are warm. Just a fantastic place to enjoy some down time.

To quote the hostess, this is the«casual, family-friendly dining option» at the Hotel del Coronado. Do not let that title deceive you– it will still be a pricey meal. We order crab cakes as an appetizer($ 24: they were fried and just okay– would probably skip those next time) and the chilean sea bass as our entrée per the waiter’s suggestion. The sea bass appeared to be a fairly small portion, but was incredibly filling. It came with spring pea risotto and what looked like tiny little asparagus spears on top. It was delicious. No room for dessert. We sat on the verandah to enjoy the sunset and the warmth of the heaters. A cute spot to grab dinner or drinks and apps if you would rather not spend $$$$.

Ate dinner at the Sheerwater in Coronado, CA on 12/28/2015. It was my 1st time there. The Sheerwater is located inside the famous Hotel Del Coronado. There were three of us but I had the following: halibut($ 35.00), side of Brussels & bacon($ 13.00), peach & cherry cobbler($ 12.00) and coffee($ 6.00). I was very happy with both the food and the location. Our server, Margarito, did a fine job as well. Plus, I took photos.

DH and I enjoyed a lovely, leisurely lunch at the Sheerwater a few days before Thanksgiving. I had the spring vegetable salad with an add on of blackened prawns. A very inventive and tasty salad. DH had the shrimp and scallop skewer which was served with broccolini and California(cheesy) grits. Rolls, butter, and white wine were good accompaniments.(DH really wanted a beer, but there were few draft options. He did not like the beer that was first served. The server took it off the bill and helped him select a wine which went with his entrée.) To end our meal, we shared a very large serving of peach and cherry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Delicious! Sheerwater is a bit pricey(for us) but a good special occasion place … and for us The Del is a rare and special occasion.

The food here is okay. Not delicious and definitely not the best meal I’ve ever had in my entire life. My dinner last night makes it the third time I’ve had a meal at Sheerwater. The service for us has always been great and I guess the big draw is the ocean view but my husband and I always sit inside. Nothing about the hotel, view, service, or food justify the extremely high prices. Seriously, the guacamole here runs a hefty $ 17.00. That’s just plain old ridiculous. It’s not even prepared table side to make you feel like you really got something out of it. I didn’t order the guacamole so I’ve got no comment on whether it cures diseases or some other reason why anyone should foot the bill. I did see an appetizer pass my way and it was a cup of mashed avocado with perhaps 20 chips on the side. Nothing special. We ate lobster bisque(no lobster in the soup and extremely bland). Sea bass with pea risotto. This was my husbands meal and he said it was good which isn’t saying much. I tasted the risotto and it was bland and cold. Meant to be served cold, I’m not so sure. I ordered the ribeye that came with carrots and covered in a gravy. I ordered the steak well done. Something about gravy and bloody steak sounds really gross to me. It was actually very delicious, but for $ 48.00 it wasn’t worth it. Honestly, the ribeye at Outback is just at tasty and half the cost. We shared Brussels sprouts that were in a vinegarette and covered in bacon. They were good. Cody, our waiter, was awesome and made up for the extremely high priced food. He suggested the peach cobbler and it was decent. Sweet and sour with tart cherries and a crumble crust. Too bad my coffee wasn’t very tasty. It was extremely weak. I love and appreciate my husband for wanting to take me to nice places and wine and dine me as if we had first met. This is what made the night worth it. I’m a lucky gal to have someone not bat an eye at the check. We walked out hand in hand with a smile on his face even though the meal wasn’t consistent with his happiness.
