I HATEKFC… jst thought I’d throw that out there first off. Oh my Popeyes how I love you let me count the ways. Okay so I’m not going to count them really. This is seriously one of the better Popeyes I’ve ever been too foods always hot and the staff is so nice. Popeyes in general make the worlds best onion rings. No seriously, if I was told that onion rings would becoming illegal I would be at Popeyes everyday till they couldn’t sell them any longer. And their chicken isn’t greasy and it’s so crunchy it’s like mind blowing. Add to the fact you can get spicy and it’s actually kinda spicy that you can feel it on your tongue and back of your mouth. Draw back… No matter if you go inside or do the drive thru expect to wait. It’s just something you come to expect from Popeyes. It sucks but items like onion rings are always made fresh. Average wait time around 5 minutes.

Oh, Popeyes, you listened!!! Thank you! Not even a year later and I was talked into giving this Culpeper franshise a try again. With fear and hesitation, I accepted the challenge to give ‘em another go. Working with the basics, I got 2 pieces of chicken and a red beans & rice. YAY!!! Cooked, just like it’s supposed to be. Tastes, just like it’s supposed to. Yum…and glad to see you’re back! Unfortunately, the crowds will take some time to show back up, so now’s the time to go for the great new service. New people, new attitude, the inside: much cleaner. Nice turn-around. Keep it up.

Our experiences with fast-food chicken have been limited to KFC, & even those experiences have been pretty much limited to once a year on Derby Day — lol! But we found ourselves out & about early evening yesterday with no real plans for dinner, & hubby suggested we give Popeye’s a try for the first time, just for the heck of it. Am glad we did! It was fairly early, around 6 p.m. — several folks at the drive-up, & a few folks eating &/or in line inside. We went inside to order our takeout. Place was bright & very clean. We stood to the rear so we could read the menu & decide on our options before actually getting in line. After getting over the sticker shock(that’s some pricey chicken for some of the offerings), we ordered two 3-piece meal combos($ 5.99 ea.) consisting of 3 pcs. of chicken, 1 biscuit,& one side(no beverage) per meal. Both of us ordered the«spicy» style chicken; hubby ordered onion rings as his side, while I opted for mashed potatoes with gravy. Everyone in the service area seemed sincerely happy/friendly — much nicer than at the local KFC the few times we’ve ordered from there.(Even with only visiting KFC once a year, they always seem a bit surly.) I have to mention that while we were still viewing the menu, an elderly couple came in & were obviously having confusion problems deciding/placing their order. Both the cashier & another young female employee were SO patient &SO accommodating to them, it was nearly a reconfirmation of human kindness. Upon arriving home(it’s about a 15−20-minute drive), we were pleasantly surprised to see that — unlike KFC — the crust on the chicken was still crisp as all get-out(fried chicken doesn’t always travel well). Plus, it had a really nice hit of spicy heat — a helluva lot spicier than one would expect from chain-restaurant chicken. One wing, one thigh, & one drumstick made up each order. All pieces — even the wing — were juicy, flavorful, & nicely spicy thanks to that wonderfully crispy coating. And completely grease-free. Sides were about ½ the size of what one gets at KFC, & were somewhat forgettable. The gravy on my mashed potatoes was decidedly«beefy» tasting for some reason, which I wouldn’t expect from a chicken restaurant. I could be wrong, but that’s just how it tasted to me. Hubby said his onion rings were equally forgettable & not something he’d order again, but like me — he REALLY liked the chicken. Biscuits were okay — not as flakey as KFC, but passable. Bottom line: For around $ 12& change, more than decent fast food. We’ll return & either try some different sides or stick to ordering just the chicken & make our own sides at home. The«spicy» chicken is worth it.

The food is good but the staff varies. I prefer drive thru, but be prepared to wait. I once waited over 15 minutes for my order — along with 4 other cars. I understand«fresh chicken», but c’mon. I’ve been in the restaurant part a couple times, but the last time was when one of the employees behind the counter was so incredibly rude I couldn’t believe what had just happened. She asked if we «was» ready. We said we needed a couple more minutes & motioned for the other people in line to go ahead. They weren’t ready either so she had something smart to say about that. Then, as both of our groups stand there, she starts making comments about being ready when we are & telling us to take our time, all in a very nasty tone. The other group was ready to order & they stepped up to the counter — we decided we’d rather eat at Arby’s. We turned to leave & she yelled«where y’all going?» & I said«anywhere but here» as I walked out the door. She replied in her nasty tone, but I was already out the door. & a manager was there the whole time! I’ve never had a bad experience in the drive-thru, but it took me a few months to even go back through the drive-thru after that.
