Authentic Chengdu food. Especially recommend their BBQ fish, lamb, and dessert like BBQ toast and mantou. The spicy jelly and noodles are super tasty too. Owner used to run Chef Ma — another authentic sichuan food restaurant. Friendly service.

food is just soso(honestly, I am Chengduese.), but experience is very bad. There were two group of people waiting. when one table is done. They left it dirty uncleaned for 20 min. When asked they said the big table, maybe 5 people size is «not possibel to sit 1 or 2 peple in there”(they said exactly that 我们不可能让那个桌子坐一两个人的). And that was 20 min before they close. And they even don’t have a seating and waiting area, I mean not even one chair.

Came in by chance for lunch after the restaurant next door couldn’t serve me because their kitchen was closed even though it was 40 minutes before stated closing time. Compared to the restaurant next door, the service was stellar. They were friendly enough. Seated me right away and were attentive enough throughout the entire dining experience. I’m guessing the food is very authentic. The menu was dominated by items with body part names. «neck» «head» «intestines» etc. I had the beef hot pot. I also ordered the fried rice because that is my litmus test for an Asian restaurant. For the hot pot, you get a broth prepared with many ingredients already included(tofu, vegetables, enoki mushrooms, peppers, etc). You get a plate of thinly sliced raw meat(I think of Japanese shabu shabu). You get a small bowl of white rice. I didn’t really care much for the flavor of the hotpot broth. I didn’t dislike it enough to not try it again and see if it grows on me, but it was definitely not an immediate favorite. I did like the individual items like the beef, the mushrooms etc. The fried rice was very simple but very tasty. I’m sure I’ll be back. I might even get addicted.

Their green chili beef tripe is so good. I eat their food at least once every two weeks. Their skewers are also very good. Dan dan noodles is tasty. If you like spicy food, would totally recommend coming here to try their food.

serving extra small size amount of food per dish. I am usually not a picky person and I don’t eat a lot but this time I am just thinking that this restaurant is really ridiculous. Btw, they charge extra for alcohol fuel and soup when you ordering a hotpot. Honestly, if you have too much money and have nowhere to spend, do come to this place.

They recommended the fish dish for $ 40 but it is such a small fish with no meat on it. Definitely not worth the money!!! Does not recommend this to anyone and probably won’t be coming back for this

One of the best Chinese restaurants in South Bay! My criteria: authenticity. In addition to trying their spicy dishes, you might want to try their desserts, some I cannot find anywhere else in South Bay. Please note that the more productive way to review Chinese restaurants is to focus on the food, and whether they come close to «back home». Using this criteria, I’m giving them 5-stars. Now, if you’ve not experienced what«authentic» Chinese food tastes like(sorry, but you have to have an appropriate«reference» when reviewing foods from outside the States, else you often are simply comparing Americanized, bland foods that are missing the point by miles), this might be hard to relate to. I can only suggest you be open-minded and give it a try, and then compare with others.

We waited half an hour for them to seat a group of 2. They don’t even have a chair or so for waiting customers. They are also clearly under staffed. After successfully secured half a table(shared with another group of 2) we ordered 2 cold appetizers, one noodle bowl and several bbq skewers. One of the appetizer came out after the noodle bowl and skewers were served, which is quite strange. Noodle bowl is delicious, everything else is either mediocre or below average. Do not recommend this place, definitely not worth the 30mins wait.

Have heard about this place for a little while. The name in Chinese means«Old Chengdu». I’ve been eating Sichuan for over a decade and there is still more to explore! I came here specifically for Mala Tang, a 1st for me. It literally«numbing spicy hot»(piquance & temperature), translated to «chili pot». When I realized this, I thought, Oh! Hence the name of the place! LOL! Neither translation is perfect IMHO. True to the«numbing» in the name, there was that classic Szechuan peppercorn flavor which of course I adore. Plus a whole bunch of other spices including clove & cumin(I think!) plus a fair amount of garlic, red chillies & cilantro to top it off. The broth was very complex and delicious! I was informed of the option to add meat but I decided to experience the original vegetarian version. Again, proof that this is the work of a great chef, when vegetarian can taste amazing. I savored every bite. The pot consisted of Napa cabbage, lotus root, cucumber, potato slices(I think!), bean sprouts & the star: bean threads a.k.a. clear noodles. The kind served was more reminiscent of the chewy, thicker variety that is Korean naengmyeon(but not exactly), different than what I am used to but worked. I enjoyed the springiness. As you can imagine, the lineup is not exactly photogenic. But trust me, so yum! The heat didn’t seem much at first, but it did eventually build up. Hurt so sweet! :-) & yes I ate the whole damned thing even though it initially seemed impossibly huge. To complete the experience, I had a grilled lamb skewer which was sprinkled generously with cumin & other spices. A bit on the dry side but very tasty nonetheless. It had a bit of fat on it which was perfect. I would order again. It actually tasted like lamb & not some toned down, less gamey version which I appreciated(because otherwise why bother?) I also got the pork blood cake(2 pieces per order) — wasn’t sure what to expect but turned out to be the Taiwanese variety(unless it is also Sichuan which would be news to me). I happen not to care for this product historically, but that’s just me; nothing wrong with it per se. My server was very courteous and had a positive attitude which, let’s face it, is refreshing & not to be taken for granted at Asian restaurants. Thumbs up for the service! Note: $ 30 minimum for credit card charge. Not a problem for me. I spy a couple at the next table sharing a lamb hot pot. The server explains that the pot contains veggies & clear noodles. Lamb slices are on the side, of course, and you can add items to the pot at extra charge. Pretty good size for sharing at $ 15.95. Just get an app or a side & you’re good to go! My check came out to under $ 15 after tax — definitely excellent value. Unbeknownst to me they also serve spicy duck heads & necks, in addition to an array of other exciting items that I would love to try. Shall return. Word to the wise: go early. I showed up when they opened(11:30 a.m.) Plenty of parking spaces then. I even got a shady spot. By the time I left, ~12:45 p.m. the parking lot was a madhouse, typical of Asian shopping centers. I imagine dinner time has got to be worse. Go get yourself a bowl of spicy yumness!

Another new spicy restaurant, how can I let this one pass? Easy parking, it’s in the same plaza with homestead bowl, small restaurant, 10 or so tables. Service was good, food comes fairly quick after order and taste pretty authentic. When it comes to spicy food, I tend to like stronger flavored and more spicy, I think I would ask for more spicy next time ;p. TIP: Most of the skews and some of the dishes can be cooked non-spicy upon request. We even ordered the DanDan noodle non spicy and have the spicy sauce on the side, still tasted pretty yumm. I saw the table next to us had hot spicy pot, I will try that next time.

Food here is ok but does not match the high price. We came here once a few weeks because it is one of the few Chinese BBQ place around. The last time I went there, they told me my credit card was gone and found it after 20 minutes search… I never came back again after that. A side benefit here is that you can go to Tea era in this plaza for some nice boba tea.

Came here for dinner as a group of 6 on saturday. We mainly came here for their famed fish dish. Besides the fish(live), we ended up ordering one of their pots with a few add-on items and some of their appetizer dishes. We thought we were going to have a feast. However, upon the arrival of each dish, it was clear that the price does not justify the size of any dish. The skewers were also mostly fat, and the grilled squid tasted like plastic with a ton of hot sauce. The only thing that saved the night was the fish, which was tender and flavorful. The bill ended up being ~$ 150(which was more than what we had estimated). I would not be coming back anytime soon.

The hotpot is ok. The grilled skewers are so bland. It’s chengdu style. So it’s supposed to be spicy. But the grilled meat is not spicy at all. No salt either. Strange.

I would give it 3.5 star. It serves some interesting Sichuanese food, especially street food style grilled skewers. All the items we ordered were pretty tasty. The menu selection is not so big, doesn’t have all the typical Sichuanese dishes. The place itself is rather small and minimum, good for small gathering with close friends who are game for spicy adventures.

I get here because the radio introduce. But so upset, because the people from the radio lied to me, here is not delicious at all. Not cheap either. We spend $ 240+tips for 6p…(3 girls+3boys). We ordered around 10 kinds of items for pot and 3 skewers for each item .when the waiter brought the food to us, they SKIPED some skewers! Inside the pot, some items only have 1 or 2 skewers. I really don’t want believe they are WILLFUL giving us less skewers! I asked the waiter about it, and few minutes later he brought us the rest of the skewers what we missing. It’s so embarrassing! So from this experience just want let u guys know if you get chance go there with a group of people, make sure count !!! The other side, there service is pretty good. I almost forget, the cold spicy noodle there is good too.

This space is kinda cursed. It’s been like 5 different things over the past few years. Though it’s current incarnation seems popular enough. Lots of Sichuan style snacking foods. Had the Chili Pot combo beef, house special chicken, dandan noodles, shredded potato, Sichuan sausage plus skewers of gizzard/heart/intestine. Everything had solid taste and it was just spicy enough. There may have been a need for more salt on the skewers as the exception. The service is attentive in that they keep bringing you cold water. Ambiance is café like and It’s got a bit of the hole in the wall feeling even though it’s brand new. If you like spicy foods, this is definitely a place to check out
