I like this place. Music is generally good and the crowd seems really good too. Not really much in the way of dancing space so people kind of dance all over the place. But, the service seems pretty good; the staff is attentive and very responsive. I like the feel of the place; it’s cozy, which is also one of its drawbacks since it doesn’t allow for a big crowd. But for an easy evening out, it provides the right setting. Drinks are moderately priced(definitely not low end, but not high end either). And, it provides for a nice change of place compared to the rest of the uptown strip.

Didnt care for this place at all, and wont be returning. Wouldnt waist your time here… go down the street, WAY cooler bars and people!

I’ve always had a good time at Lotus. Although, haha 40+ yr olds try to talk to me. And other guys are usually unattractive there. The drinks are good and they should be for $ 10. Love the music and dancing! I really loved this place when I use to smoke cigs because they have a great patio. Definately a great place to get drunk and meet crazy people.

Can you say $ 30K millionaires? They love this place! Usually a pretty good mix of people on any given night. It can get a little crowded as their is a very small and irregular-shaped«dance» area right smack in the middle of their«lounge» entrance, outdoor patio, front door and bar. Whoever designed Lotus was a great interior designer… Not!

What a patio! Thursday nights at Lotus just get better. The place is intimate and flows nicely. The patio is definitely the best feature and offers a great place to see and be seen! The staff is excellent and very accommodating! Hope to be on patio again this upcoming Friday!

Loved the atmosphere, the patio, the crowd was just in that mid range that I was looking for(not a bunch of scantily clad 21-year-olds nor cougars who had many trips to the clinic to get their Botoxes and tried too hard to look as young as 25) and the music was at least decent. It’s like an upscale pub with dress code enforced. The crowd overall was approachable unlike the other uptown bar scene, the drinks were way overpriced — $ 10 for a small mixed drink. However, I’m glad that there is no cover charge. I do wish that there is an actual dance floor here. They played all the top 40 hits to the 80’s rock. All in all, I always had fun there. :D

I like Lotus, but it’s missing a dance floor, so you see all these people trying to stand in one spot and dance. If you thrive off of crowds then this is the place on a Saturday night.

This is an upscale Blackfinn. It’s in Uptown, so the crowd isn’t 18 year olds in shorts skirts nor it is the cougars you see at Glass Cactus. The drinks aren’t outrageous, but it’s too swanky for specials. They are pricey… The music is always good there. They usually have a live DJ on the weekends and plenty of space for larger parties. The best part of Lotus is the Patio. It’s gorgeous and there are comfy couches. I’m not sure if there’s a dress code, but I’ve gone in with guys in Stars jerseys after the game. Most people are at least attempting to look presentable. Valet is not bad. You park in the back. It’s chill, but not a dive, it’s usually busy, but not stifling. It’s a little nicer, but not as pretentious. The only reason I give it four stars is the wait time at the bar.

Music was good, space was pretty crowded, my friend got thrown out for being drunk. OK seriously, it’s a bar, people get drunk, that’s what people do. Bottle service was good, waitress was attentive and kept drinks filled. Doubt I’ll be back, but I wouldn’t be against it if it got suggested.

this place rocks. the servers and bartenders are awesome and the pour is great. it has some of those rules for exclusive clubs i dont like… i.e. no caps, but the atmosphere is still great. i am a casual bar type of guy, but when you have a wife and friends who are dallas girls(or dallas guys too i guess)…you end up places like this… alot. the music rocks on friday and saturday. friday seems to be more 80s/90s stuff, but fun. saturday seems to be more recent stuff and some good bump. it has a great patio with comfortable seating like a lounge. we have sat out on the patio after a concert and had a few drinks, just chillin… the main thing about this bar is be ready to have more fun than expected or anticipated, it will happen. a note about the drinks. a little pricey, about 8 bucks for call liquor. so if you are one of those 30k millionaires, dont bother, you wont be able to swing the drink or the tail in this place. a note about the music. its loud inside, but you can still drink and talk in peoples’ ears… which gets rid of the personal space barrier everyone should leave at home when going out on the town. plus, its a bar… not a coffee shop. i’m just sayin’.

I’m a visitor from outta town, but from walking around UpTown on Saturday night, I noticed that this is the place with one of the nicer décor and better dressed crowd. No cover. Nice. $ 6 goose and tonic. Nice.

This is the most pretentious club in Dallas, full of the biggest assholes in the Metroplex, $ 30,000 millionaires fill this ridiculous place, you will have to stand up, uncomfortable in this crowded shithole unless you want to pay $ 100 for a bottle of crapsolut vodka. It tries to be very high end but I think it fails and just becomes obnoxious and pedantic. Those rumors about not getting your ticket validated for the valet and getting charged $ 100 dollars are true. douche bags will stare you down, its just the worst kind of human beings all gathered at one place. The service sucks and its impossible to get to the bar.

As with other Unilocalers, I was also very skeptical of my experience at Lotus but I attempted to have an open mind about the outing. First off, parking in this area is nonexistent and valet is a definite must(which most Dallasites have come to accept). Valet is $ 8 but if you forget to have your ticket validated, the fee mysteriously increases to $ 100. Why you ask? I haven’t the slightest idea other than its a way to scam money off of drunken fools who are too stupid to simply walk back into the bar to have their ticket validated. My friends and I arrived at about 9:15(yes I know this is way too early to be partying; however, we had a wedding the next day and knew we didn’t want to keep the bride out too late) and were welcomed by a somewhat snooty staff. They seemed to think it was quite ridiculous that we were there so early and made a few remarks about how they had just opened and were still setting up. Our bartender was attentive though, and made my martini just the way I like it — absolutely filthy! As more people started showing up, obtaining drinks became more and more difficult despite the fact that we were sitting AT the freaking bar! Our initial bartender disappeared and was replaced by one bartender who was definitely not fast at all. At one point, she even briefly lost our friends credit card and kept trying to convince us she had given it back even though she obviously had not. When another staff member found the card on the floor, the girl did not even apologize to us! Despite this rudeness, I must give her some credit though because she gave our group of six a free round of shots when she found out our girl was getting married the next day. As for the crowd — Grade A douchiness! Although the people were all fairly attractive it felt like a very pretentious bunch. We were all pretty casual that night and received a few awkward looks from the ooober preppy crowd. At one point some dude in khaki shorts, a button up shirt(tucked in) and loafers walked over to our group, literally looked us up and down in apparent disapproval, and then walked back to his table. Really now… was that necessary? The cost is also a little atrocious seeing as there is no drink apparently which is under $ 10! I understand this place is a lounge and all, but even beers were ridiculously overpriced. Also, there is only one bar inside and another small one on the patio which makes getting drinks next to impossible if you are not fortunate enough to be seated at a table. The only saving grace for Lotus is the ambiance. The interior is well decorated and definitely gives off the zen vibe. There are lots of tables and comfy sofas to sit at, but of course these are typically all reserved for people who want bottle service. The outside patio also has seating(which is open to all) and is very nice. Much easier to have conversation outside without the music blasting in your ears. Outside is smoker friendly. All in all, I had a fun night mainly in part to a great group of friends to party with… but I definitely would not come back to Lotus(unless someone was paying for all my drinks). If you like overpriced drinks, poor service, and a snooty crowd… give it a try, you just may like it.

I was very skeptical of Lotus before I first visited this bar. I thought it would be a snooty place that’s more about seeing and being seen than just having fun. I have no idea how I even got that impression, but I was definitely wrong. Lotus is now my go-to place when I want a fun girls night out. We love going on Fridays when they play fun ‘80s music. The DJs are great and always play our requests, which is cool and very unlike many DJs I’ve encountered around town. Saturday nights are equally fun, with the DJ playing a great mix of top 40 hits, mashups and remixes blended with some old-school favorites. The staff is incredibly nice. The waitresses are attentive and friendly, and the bartenders always take great care of us. Sometimes there are some cheeseballs in the crowd, but you’ll find that anywhere you go. The patio is flat-out fantastic. We love to sit out there on warm days to sip a few cocktails while we gear up for some dancing. They also have theme parties, but I’ve only ever been to the New Year’s party. I went with my husband and some friends, and we had an amazing time. The Lotus team decorated the bar beautifully and had champagne, munchies, and of course, great music. Definitely check it out if you’re in the mood to dance. It’s definitely a party place and gets loud. It’s not somewhere you want to go if you want to chat. We always go early before it fills up so we can chat and then just start dancing once it gets busy and loud. Do not forget to validate your valet parking ticket. If you let that one slip, you’ll end up paying $ 100 for valet service. All in all, Lotus is a guaranteed great time.

A lounge hoping to be a club but plays music like a pub? Reviewing the latest Dallas hot spot is about as useful as predicting when lightening will strike next. It’ll either be hit or a miss. Experiences vary from person to person because there are so many variables to consider, for instance: personal preferences, budgets, short-term agendas, desirability to the opposite sex, desirability to seek the opposite sex, alcohol consumption, time of entry, and the specific day of the week. About the most useful thing here would be a status report that helps you gauge whether it’s worth the risk. * Date: Friday, February 27, 2009. * Time of Entry: 10:00PM. * Duration: 2 hours, 20 minutes. * Cover Charge: Free. * Male-to-Female Ratio: Started off at 2:1 early in the evening but evened out about 5:4 as larger groups and girls-night-out crews shuffled around midnight. * Attractiveness of the opposite sex(on a scale of 1 to 10): 7 to 9 … the Dallas crowd(compared to DC) is much more attractive and the women better dressed. Dress code is moderately enforced but you can get in so long as you look like you belong. * Music: BLARING80’s and 90’s. Difficult to talk or dance but fun to sing along and reminisce. * Accessibility to Alcohol: Moderately Difficult. There is a primary bar with two bartenders near the door and a smaller outdoor patio bar. Table service is available. * Interesting features: Enclosed outdoor smoking patio with fountain. Valet parking is $ 8 but $ 100 if you don’t get your ticket validated by Lotus. * Approximate Waiting Line at 12AM: None. * Total Tab: $ 16(without tip) for 2 well drinks. 3 Stars — There’s no rhyme or reason to the Lotus theme but it was slightly more enjoyable than to Aura(see ) next door.

I really love Lotus! It’s the place I defer to when I want to dance on any given weekend night but don’t want to deal with the d-bags and pretentious Bs at the Suites of the world. it’s a swankier place but def not like Aura or Suite, it’s more manageable in a cozy, comfy way! :) and it’s not cheesy at all. I absolutely LOVE the patio, it’s great for people watching and for chillaxin’ maxin’ relaxin’ all cool. The DJ always plays great music to get your groove on although there isn’t really much of a place you can dance… but usually the person next to you doesn’t mind you dancing next to them. as long as you don’t spill their drink, that is. the drinks are pretty good and the bartenders are actually really nice. this place is big for weekends but they have a good following on Tuesday nights and they LOVE theme parties! sign up on their e-mail list and you’ll get all the insider scoop. They do have bottle service if that’s your thing and they def take care of you if you do. They are super accommodating, we once went there for a grad party and there were 20+ of us! they didn’t give us a problem at all when we wanted only 2 bottles and they cleared out tons of space just to make us comfortable! oh and we saw Jerry Jones partying there that night, so you know this place must be cool ;)

I really liked this place, and I;m very anti candleroom and wish… which is what it sounds like the other guy was describing. This place is not at all pretentious — ok they have a door guy but big deal. Inside, the place is cozy, comfy, and best of all… plays GREAT music! It’s not all clubby techno and dim lighting– they play Michael Jackson, Journey, Sir Mix A Lot and the like. Of course, there will always be snotty people there who think that bottle service and skimpy attire makes them über-cool, but it just makes for a great laugh so who cares? I like the layout and the vibe — it’s FUN! Of all the«ultra lounge» spots(or whatever they are trying to call themselves these days) this is definitely the least cheesy in my book — one place I won’t have to be talked into/bribed to going back.

Wow! Unlike Dan H. I kinda liked this place. Yes…it is pretentious but if you are in Uptown that is what you get almost every where you go. Maybe I went on a better night than Dan did, maybe I expected it, but I had a blast. We got in right away. The place is small but cute. It was decorated for X-mas. It was crowded but not overly crowded. Everyone I ran into was nice and talkative but they were posers. A lot of plastic in there. Drinks were expensive but again, that’s Uptown for you. But the atmosphere and music made up for the price and crowd. Reminder…if you valet, GETYOURTICKETVALIDATED with a bartender or waitress immediately! If you don’t you will forget and if you forget you will pay $ 100 to get your car back. $ 8 if you get it validated. :-)

So, let me start with a double-disclaimer: a) This spot has the coolest door guy in Dallas. His name is Zach. Buy him a drink and don’t give him any shit. b) I fuckin’ HATE places like this. Seriously… I live in Los Angeles, but for the most part I’ve boycotted Hollywood. And it’s ’cause I can’t stand the vibe. That being said, I can see why this place appeals to a certain clientele. It is even MORE exclusive, chichi, and upper-crust than clubs that I’ve been to in NY and LA. The vibe exudes opulence and discrimination(and I mean discrimination in both senses). We got in within 2 minutes on a Saturday night @ 11:00 pm. We drank on the house. I give it one star because the people inside were the meanest, pushiest, fakest, motherfuckers I’ve come across in a long time. But I’d rent this spot out for a party. It’s nice inside if you clear out the assholes.
