Sadly, last time I went by, there was a sign saying the Donut Shack was closed and another eatery would open early summer 2015. Sad passing of another favorite summer tradition.

We got a ½ dozen to take to the beach for an on-beach breakfast(3 of us, 6 donuts — perfect!). The kiddo(who then was 6 or 7) got hot cocoa and we got coffee and bottle water. A few of the kinds were still warm. The apple fritters looked great(and huge) but we did not try them — yet! Soooooo good — even with a little sand sprinkled in. This is an old-school donut shop and we LOVE it.

This really is what Dunkins was around 1962. Hot coffee, fresh made donuts, no drive through.

Good, but I am not sure I’d get up that early again. We were told if you don’t get there early you don’t get them. So we got there before they opened and waited in the line that had already formed. We got 2 dozen because when we go to dunks that’s what we get for 10 people. However, these are much heavier and we should have only got 1 dozen. Coconut was my favorite.

I got there about 10:30 and they only had four donuts left. I take that as a great sign. I ended up getting a boston cream which was delicious, highly recommend!

This place has withstood the Dunkin Donuts takeover of the 1990s and 2000s, and with good reason. Their donuts are far tastier than anything you’ll find at Dunkies or other chains.

It was the only place around we found that had quick coffee and donuts. Well, we didn’t look too hard anyhow. The shack — it looks like a diner inside — stools and a bar and some booths. But no one is there. There is no food. There are no waitresses and nothing to order. No menus. There is only a small counter up front that has a small selection of donuts and muffins. You can get some coffee here and maybe some pastries, but other than that — this place sure has a lot of unused space. It would be more appropriate if it WAS in an actual shack — it would definitely fit the space.

The charm of this hole in the wall makes it great. Low key, rough around the edges but great staff and great apple fritter dumpling thingys and their house donut the maple. YUM.

Nice family establishment with tasty homemade donuts. A letter from John F. Kennedy describing the donuts as «very delicious.» Worth a stop.
