Wow. Having just moved here from Chicago finding a steakhouse was top on the list. Tried about 6 before we found this gem. We’ve tried almost everything on the starters menu, all amazing! If I had to pick one thing, it’s not even on the menu but they’ve always made it for us. Roasted brussel sprouts, with bacon cheese and an amazing balsamic. They have 6 or more different filets and I’ve tried them all. Brilliant cuts of meat, cooked and seasoned to perfection. The missus just recently tried their famous sugar steak and it was worth all the hype. We haven’t tried anything other then the steaks but in the 8 or so times we’ve been there since we found it a few months ago, but by judging everyone else’s reaction it all looked great. The service is amazing as well, from the hostess to the servers. They are all super attentive, pleasant, well informed and just nice to be around. One request, if someone from Bastien’s is reading this. Please, please add crème brûlée to the desert menu. That would take this restaurant over the top for me…

This place was amazing. The décor is from out of the late 60’s, original paneling, Frank Sinatra photos, Italian songs. The food was out standing. Servers were on point.

We wanted to go here numerous time but somehow the timing was slightly off. For one, Bastien’s is CLOSED for Vacation OR they CLOSED for a MAJOR Holiday etc. Finally, on Friday January 8th2016 we came here for Dinner. I was slightly apprehensive, due to the jam packed PARKINGSPOT outside this establishment which is filled to the Brim and we do not have any reservation what so ever to have Dinner here. Thankfully when we arrived at 19:15hrs ish even for DINNERPEAK Hours, we managed to get a booth seating which is near to the Entrance of the Kitchen that we don’t mind seating. Furthermore, we don’t want to «waste» our time driving across town just to have Dinner. Our server is lovely. With the extensive Menu, I really cannot decide what to choose! This establishment is indeed«FAMOUS» from all the Credits they received and I even watch that Channel that featured this establishment on TV! Its definitely feels like«OLD-SCHOOL» kind of Steakhouse, just the way Hubs like, aka the Old-School version. Once seated our server gave us the Menu and brought out the complimentary bread stick that both of us like. Maybe due to the fact we are hungry at that time. Anyways that evening we ordered the following items : * Crab Cakes as Appetizers($ 13.95) * T Bone Steak($ 34.95) * Bone-In Rib Eye Steak($ 35.95) The Crab Cakes came in at 20:00hrs ish. YES its Old style crab cakes served with chipotle aioli. Lots of Crab NO fillers what so ever, fried to perfection that I liked… Our Main Entrees comes with Soup or Salad. Hubs opt to have Salad while I opt to have the Soup. For the Main Entrees, Hubs opt to have the Mashed Potato as a side, while I opt to have Fries. I so wish it was those skinny fries, but it was those thick Fries that I don’t really fancy that much. YES our Main Entrees did take awhile to be ready and the WAIT is WORTHIT, that is what Hubs whispered. That time was about 20:25hrs ish. Overall, Hubs likes his order of Steak and definitely the side of Creamy Jalapeño Mashed Potatoes that he wanted for the side. From that instant, I can see Hubs smiling from ear to ear :-D YES, this is one of the occasions that we «splurged» on STEAK and having Dinner. YES the Dinner does NOT come cheap! Hubs likes his side order ALOT and he purchased another side of Creamy Jalapeño Mashed Potatoes in a TOGO Order that evening. Thank you Bastien’s for a WORTHY, tummy-filled with STEAK Goodness and making Hubs Happy. As long as Hubs is Happy, I am Happy. We left Bastien’s at about 21:20hrs ish. @January 2016

The food was delicious! I devoured everything on my plate. The down side to this place is definitely the service. My steak was overcooked and the waitress said it would take about 6 minutes to remake. Everyone at the table finished their meals and had their plates taken away before I got my steak back. Our waitress never refilled our drinks, the other waitresses noticed when they were empty and refilled them. Very very disappointed with our server, but I’d come back because the food was so good.

If you are looking for a nice dinner do not go to this place. The bacon wrapped scallops were so Overdone I couldn’t even chew them. When I Mentioned this to the server she was extremely rude! I ordered a sugar steak and a lobster tail for $ 35 and got the smallest steak and very chewy tasteless lobster. I will never go to Bastiens again.

I actually can’t believe I haven’t written a review for this place yet. One of my favorite restaurants in Denver by far! The sugar steaks are delicious. The flavor is simply phenomenal. I’ve tasted the steak«a la Ryan» and it was also delicious, although super rich. After coming here a handful of times I’ve decided it’s better to order your steak one level less cooked than you normally would(I usually order medium-rare, but here I order it rare and it’s perfect). The sides are always delicious and the staff is mostly all family if I’m not mistaken, so you get a very welcoming family vibe here. It’s always a great experience. I love the ambiance from the copper blinds to the giant photos of the Rat Pack on the wall. It’s kinda tacky 60’s-70’s atmosphere, but it’s the perfect setting for a Manhattan or a Vesper. Some sort of classic drink with vermouth or bitters in it haha too bad you can’t smoke in there, because it’s the perfect setting for a cigar in some houndstooth pants! If you haven’t been, you really gotta go!

If you want a midcentury time warp for dinner, this is your place. It’s all Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and the Rat Pack. The lights are low and the menu is vintage. Steak is their main focus here. I tried the famous sugar steak and it had a hint of sweetness without being overbearing. Clarify with the waitstaff on the cooking temps though, because I ordered medium rare and my steak came out charred on the outside and what I would consider verging on medium well. I tried to eat it, but it was tough and after reading all over the menu that to be truly enjoyed, their steaks need to be rare or medium rare, I thought it could be a much better experience. Alright, you know best, I sent it back. My dining companion was finishing her meal as they brought out a new one. The new one was pretty perfectly cooked and very tender though, so maybe it was worth it. What wasn’t worth it was the sides. Twice baked potatoes seemed salty, stiff, and a little dry. Salad seemed like it was geared toward people for whom salad dressing is the main appeal. However, the steak was more than big enough to compensate, I even ended up taking some home. Overall, I enjoyed the steak the second time around, but I didn’t think the rest was anything special. The servers seemed understaffed, but not unpleasant. The prices didn’t seem in line with what I received, but I had a coupon to even them out. I would consider trying them again, but I don’t know that I would seek them out. This place seems like a landmark, but some other steak places have lower prices and sides that are worth eating.

Once again, Bastien’s has provided a delicious dining experience from start to finish! Anytime I see a deal for Bastien’s I jump on it and get one. Calina and I came in tonight because I was wanting a great steak. We were greeted and seated immediately by Patrick, very friendly and attentive. Our server Lara was Awesome! She is part of the great Bastien’s family and the pride in the restaurant really showed. She was friendly, personable, efficient and gave some wonderful suggestions, especially the wine that would complement our steak dinners. We decided on getting a bottle of the Meiomi Pinot Noir and it was smooth, not too fruity and it went great with our caesar salad and steak dinner. The caesar salad was one of the best I have ever had! :-) Calina chose the Atomic Fusion Steak and I got the Sugar Steak. Both were cooked just right and were delicious. To finish our meal, we decided on the Bread Pudding with Maple Syrup and Vanilla Ice Cream. Delicious, Delicious, Delicious. Plenty of parking and free WiFi. Like them on Facebook to get more specials and discounts!

Came in on a Saturday night for a late dinner. The woman greeting us was friendly and seated us promptly. The décor has a vintage feel. A little outdated, but it feels like a throw back to old school family restaurants. We had deviled eggs and drummetes as apps. I had the wasabi salmon salad and hubs had the fillet. My salad was good but I didn’t taste any wasabi on the salmon, I think it may have been in the ranch dressing. That was unexpected, but still good. We had turtle cheesecake and a lemon cheesecake shooter for desert. The shooter was the perfect bite of desert. Not too big and satisfying. We would come back to try other items on the menu.

This place is amazing! Except for when you make a reservation for dinner on your anniversary, drive across town in the snow, and find them closed because it snowed. Common courtesy would be to call those people who made reservations and let us know you’re closed. Okay, maybe we should have called first. At least I have good music to listen to in the car. Rest in peace Phife Dawg.

Came here as a group for a friends birthday. We made the reservation in advance and the tables were nicely prepared before our arrival. The flat iron steak was delicious! Juicy and succulent. We are particularly liked the sides too– try the crispy pig ears and their portobello mushrooms, it was wonderful

Sweet peas and collard greens the sugar steak was awesome. We came here because of the groupon but I had driven by several times and wanted to stop. Don’t let the outside fool you; the atmosphere inside is amazing. We didn’t get any appetizers but I was tempted. The steaks took a while but judging on the kitchen from the outside it probably isn’t very big. My younger daughter didn’t like her Mac and cheese but everyone else did. It was really creamy and full of flavor. I had the sugar steak and it was fabulous. I arm the everything including the fat I normally cut off. If you are looking to be shuffled through your meal, this isn’t the place. From seating to leaving we were there about 2 hours but it was enjoyable. I would have given 5 stars but I forgot to order a drink other than water and it was a while before the waitress came back and the bread sticks had a hint of laundry detergent to them. But I didn’t go for breadsticks anyway. I am already looking forward to my next trip back

Always comfortable place to go for locals, and found out it’s now officially a historic landmark! This time around I tried the Caesar salad with grilled chicken… Delicious, and loved that the romain was grilled… Yummy!

After nearly 24 years of passing by this place, we finally went here for NYE dinner and it was awesome! We sat in the beautiful upstairs and our tables were decorated with NYE fun. Service was great and fast and our meals were excellent. I had the Beef Tenderloin Stroganoff and my husband had the Chicken Fried Steak… both tasted great. We will for sure come back as we need to try the Sugar Steak! Suggestion: split checks when there are groups of 10+. It took us forever to divide out the check, figure out tax and tip.

So New Years dinner is suppose to be surrounded by good people and great food. And bastiens failed to deliver this. The steaks were burnt and the service was MIA. Not to mention the old school ticket system when we asked for check. They made us split it ourselves. Wish I had two more hands… To give this place 4 thumbs down.(Sorry)

As a Denver and City Park area Native, I think Bastien’s should not be missed. If you want to be whisked back into the 1940s era with a great bar and amazing ambiance, look no further. I have been to Bastien’s more times than I could count and have never been disappointed. Their grilled Caesar salad is awesome. Every app I have has is delicious. I know I should branch out more but my entrée order is almost always the same. I get the 8 oz Beef Tournedos Ala Ryan(with jumbo shrimp, asparagus and béarnaise). So Yum! I will have to say, I am not a fan of the sugar steak :(Its just not my cup of tea. Maybe it is yours :) I like Bastien’s because its a great place to go for a special occasion. I like supporting Colfax businesses. No need for chain restaurants.

This place knows steak. If you are looking for steak, come here for a classic cuts but also unique seasonings and rubs. But they don’t quit there… all their sides are delicious. Readonable prices for a completely satisfying meal. Waitstaff wad eager to answer questions and gave outstanding drink and dish recommendations.

Had a graduation party in their upper level last night, and it was really quite enjoyable. I’ve been to Bastiens before, and it’s always be a fair value for good food. Last night was no exception. Food: I had beef stroganoff, which was mighty tasty but incredibly rich. Came with a salad and side veggies which cut that richness. Again. It was tasty, but I’m not sure I’d order it again. Husband had the sugar steak. Pretty rad, wish I had gotten that. Drinks: Wine: incredibly affordable. Mixed drinks? Ehhhh. I mean it’s not bad. Some guests were complaining about $ 11 martinis… I wasn’t super offended. Service: lovely, very attentive and helpful throughout the night. I’ll go back. :)

Ok so I, like many CO natives, have passed by Bastien’s pretty much my whole life. I saw a living social deal and decided to wait no longer. As the outside would suggest, this is a no frills steak house. There is no sommalier, the prices are very reasonable(I have no idea what other people are complaining about), and none of the meats and sides are a la carte. If you want the aforementioned things, go to Elway’s or Guard and Grace. If you want just, basic, good, and classic, then go to Bastien’s. Admittedly, my husband and I were cautiously optimistic about this place and did our best to set them up for success. We were given two flavorless bread sticks along with the salted, jalapeño, cheese butter? I had read about the butter from other reviews so I was not caught off guard. It was weird and yet delicious. We ordered the Thumbprints. I have no idea where that name came from because it was delicious meat and blue cheese on like 4in(vertical) of french bread. Neither of us knew how to eat them. I ended up just eating the meat and cheese. My husband got a NY strip with asian sauces that isn’t on the online menu. I got an always reliable, bacon wrapped fillet. They were cooked perfectly(rare), which is worth it’s weight in gold. Now we both got the cheddar, horseradish mashed potatoes which were easily 60% horseradish. My sinuses were clear as a bell. Likely, most people wouldn’t dig this. We did order wine, though I had to ask what years things were. It was both tragic and charming. We were gifted some outlandish chocolate cake the size of my head since it was my husband’s bday. Not something I would order but it was good. The service was good, I should note.

Outstanding food and fantastic service. I’m prefer to be stingy with giving away 5 star ratings, but Bastien’s has earned it. Everything we have tried there has been top notch: sugar steaks, seasonal veggies, thumbprints, warm brie, house salads, bread and butter, salted caramel cake, and bread pudding… all flawless. I know, that’s a lot to live up to, but this is the kind of place where anything you order will be flavorful and delicious, anything. The service is always spot on. Each time we dine, it’s the same ladies serving, and they are witty, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The atmosphere is romantic. It’s not so dark I have trouble reading the menu with my aging eyes. The round building gives it a je né sais quoi, and the branches and lights on the roof, copper blinds, and good music top it off. I love this place, I would bring my grandmother or stepdad here. I found this gem hidden in plain sight on Groupon, $ 20 for $ 40 in food. Look for the deals on Groupon or Living Social, once you try it, you will have no problem paying full price after you have exceeded your deal limits.

This is straight out of an episode of Kitchen Nightmares! In fact, I’m almost shocked it was never featured. The décor is outdated, the menu is way too large with several no longer available items. Our stoic waitress came by no fewer than four times to tell us that they kitchen was out of a particular item, or no longer serving it(in the case of one desert cocktail, the first one on the menu, they found when they combined tuaca with the ice cream it curdled). I’m glad they at least told us, rather than subjecting us to that particular failed experiment(but why keep it on the menu in the first place?). I came here with a few good friends, we all said the same thing, that we’ve driven by so many times and never thought twice about stopping in. We should have continued driving by. The food is extremely overpriced, my steak salad was almost $ 18, for that there should have been a substantial portion of steak, however only very thin strips reminiscent of a fast food item were sandwiched between a mound of bagged lettuce and canned olives and a heap of packaged shoestring crisps. My husband’s burger, including the bacon, was burnt to a crisp. The devil’s on bareback(or something to that effect) appetizer was abysmal as well. I think the only thing we enjoyed was the company and the wine. Save yourself the«experience» and keep driving. There are infinitely better restaurants in the area.

The run-down exterior and the fact that they feature something called a «sugar steak» should have been a warning, but it had plenty of good reviews on Unilocal, and some friends of ours wanted to try it. I should’ve trusted my first impression. The interior is much nicer than the exterior(once you get past a smelly entryway), but it’s really dated. Like wood paneling and copper-colored vertical blinds dated. At first I thought they were going for an old-school look, but after dinner I suspect that they just haven’t updated anything(including the menu) since the 70’s. The service is about as friendly and knowledgeable as you’d expect in a cafeteria. Our server couldn’t tell us much about the food, didn’t know what was in stock(which became an issue), and brought half the table’s food well before the rest of it was ready. We tried the Devils on Horseback appetizer(shrimp on sliced jalapenos with cream cheese). It sounded delicious, but the shrimp was rubbery and overall the Devils on Horseback come in second to the bread sticks(admittedly, they are pretty good bread sticks). For dinner, my wife had an overpriced steak salad which she didn’t finish, and I had a chipotle bacon barbecue burger. The burger was disgusting. I ordered it medium well, but what I got was somewhere between«well done» and«burnt as fuck.» I don’t mind crispy bacon, but this was reminiscent of charcoal(don’t ask how I know what charcoal tastes like). And I like barbecue sauce, but not when it’s this cloyingly sweet. The fries that came with it were bland and boring. The restaurant was out of something we had ordered at least three different times– once for salad dressing, twice for dessert. In the case of dessert, one of the items(a mixture of ice cream and alcohol) is something they don’t make anymore because«the cream curdles when they add the tuaca.» But I guess those menus are antiques now, so they can’t get rid of them. I will say that the salted caramel vanilla cake was delicious. Everything else about the place is overpriced and subpar, so it’s not worth it, but at least they got one thing right.
