Very good restaurant for vegetarians. Feels like home food. Cannot suggest anything, every item is a special.

This was our first visit to this place and we are impressed. All the food items that we ordered were full of flavor and very close to taste of home cooked food. We recommend this place and a must visit for every South Indian food lover

Loved the food the spice the taste. Everything is just perfect. I discovered this place recently enough, and visited them twice. They have South Indian tiffins, snacks, pickles actually everything about this place is South Indian and vegetarian. Totally tasty authentic South Indian food. I love it there, if ever I crave South Indian food, I know I am going back there again.

Hands down, the most flavorful South Indian food in Atlanta. The ambiance is not too much to write about but for a foodie like me, this place rocks. I am hoping that they maintain the quality.

I’m a big fan of Indian food, tho I’m definitely still learning about all the different dishes. Everything I know about Southern Indian cuisine, I pretty much learned from Praveen’s review below. But I got the Groupon deal for Maruthi and tried it the other day. After admitting to the lady that I had no idea what to order, and seeing as the menu has no descriptions of anything, I asked her to suggest things. We decided on Spinach Onion Pakora, one of the Dosas but I’m not sure which, Mixed vegetable Uttapam, and Tamarind rice. This was a take-away order; Maruthi is clean but not long on ambiance so unless you’re just grabbing a quick lunch, take-away is perfect. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, a tower of styrofoam containers that made me think I’d ordered way too much food for two people, but Oh Well! Everything was really tasty, with just the right amount of spiciness, and not at all oily. The rice was just on the edge of being too spicy so we put some of it into the soup that came with the Dosas and that was terrific, although I’m sure it was some kind of blasphemy to do it! I will definitely go back and try more dishes at Maruthi. For just over $ 20 we had a huge dinner for two with enough leftover for an ample lunch the next day.

For anyone looking for traditional South Indian cuisine(esp Andhra tiffins) this is the place to go. It’s almost impossible to find this place if your are not looking for it, may be they are trying to hide from the crowd. Great place to have a dosa or idly or any other Andhra specials.

Other day I noticed this place when I was driving by and decided to give it a go. Maruthi is another vegetarian only south-Indian restaurant in Duluth area. In fact, it’s close to one of my favorite south-Indian vegetarian restaurant, Udipi café. Maruthi is not exactly a new restaurant — they used to be located on the same peachtree industrial blvd not too far from the new location, in a shopping complex right across the street from Blue Fin(Japanese restaurant) and golf course. The new location is at the same strip mall as highly reviewed ‘Flying roll’ and Craze. The restaurant is open from 4 pm to 9.30 pm on tuesdays to sunday and they are closed on Monday. We went there around 5.30 pm, to see what the place like and also to pick up some food for dinner. The restaurant inside has simple décor with counter to order your food and some 8 tables to dine-in. You order, pay, dine-in or taking it togo. They also cater food and have a separate menu for that as well. In fact, that seem to be their primary business there. And they also sell Dosa batter, Indian desserts, Indian spicy mango pickles and other Indian food items — I was told that all of those were made in-house. When we entered, there were no customers inside the restaurant(which is expected considering it was just 5.30 pm) and we were greeted by a lady on the counter. She gave us the menu and offered us help choosing as well. The menu contains appetizers, Tiffins(Simple small portion food), Dosas, Rava(coarsely ground Semolina) Dosas, Moong(green gram) dosas, Variety of rice dishes, uthapams and desserts. We ordered the following items. 1) Spinach Onion Pakora 2) idli sambar 3) Chapati with mixed vegetarian Kurma The spinach onion pakora is like fritters made with Gram flour(or chickpeas flour), Onions, spinach and curry leaves, mixed together and deep fried. The pakora was crispy outside and bit soft inside(from the onion inside). It was also seasoned just right and portion was big for $ 4.99 appetizer/snack. It was a good snack. Idli Sambar: only difference between this and idly item in the menu is this — the idli item comes with sambar on the side and you have to dunk it down in Sambar yourself, whereas the ‘idli sambar’ item is idli soaked in lots of sambar. The idli was not the best I have tasted but it was decent. And Sambar was made in AndraPradesh(a southern state in India) style with more sourness than I generally like, but it was ok. (By the way, Idli is a steamed cake made with rice and lentil based batter. And Sambar is made with yellow pigeon peas, tamarind, tomato and spices. It usually goes well with Idli, Dosa and rice) Chapati was warm and soft, as it should be(thumb rule for how moist it should be is that you should be able to tear off a piece with just thumb, index and middle finger of one hand). Kurma is just a dish made with meat or assortment of vegetables in a spicy, yogurt or cashew nut based sauce. Again, not the best Kurma I have eaten but it wasn’t bad. This was my partner’s favorite dish of all. Overall, I still think Udipi is better vegetarian south-indian restaurant but Maruthi was holds its own. Especially considering that food at Maruthi is cheaper than Udipi. If they priced it same as Udipi, I would have given it just 3 stars but most of the items are between $ 4 to $ 7 and in fact the expensive dish in their menu was just $ 7.49. You get a lot for less bucks and for that it gets extra star. 4 stars.
