Ordered delivery. The food arrived lukewarm and the sauce for the breadsticks was terrible. Next time I’ll order from VIP.

Everyone told me that this is the best pizza in Duluth. Because of all of the good things that ive heard about this place, I had to try it a few times to be sure that I was getting the right feel foe the place. I went once to the buffet. I sat down and ate a pizza once and we have ordered it for takeout a few times. First, the buffet… The place was clean but the food actually tasted like it was left out on the bar for too long. The soup was extremely thick like the heat from the heat lamp had thickened the water. The pizza had no flavor and the salad bar had bad pieces of salad in it. The pizza on the buffet was pretty much flavorless. The only good part of the buffet was the wings which were kind of cold. I actually left their restaurant feeling kind of hungry, We had it on takeout a few times and I got the same flavorless taste. I don’t know if its just me or if its a Minnesota thing where there is no real flavor to the food here but I was just not impressed with the pizza that this place produced. Every time someone tells me to stop by because they are getting sammy’s for dinner, I start filling up before we leave for the sake of only having to eat one square of it. Its just not appetizing to me. Ill pass thanks.

my wife and i love coming up to duluth and when we have stayed at the holiday inn, we walk right down for some pizza. we’ve had the house special pizza twice. there’s a lot of toppings so it’s hard to pick up so we sometimes eat it with a fork and a knife. nothing wrong with that. it lacked salt with having the beef on the pizza(we thought it was slices of beef but it’s ground beef instead) but after adding some salt on it, it tasted perfectly fine. we’ve also had the side salad and the spaghetti before. it’s one of those, you seat yourself kind of place. the prices are reasonable. what’s cool is that you can see them making the pizza dough right inside and outside the restaurant. my wife has heard great things about this place from people she knows, especially their lunch buffet during the week. unfortunately, we’ve never made it on time to duluth for that but we recommend going here at least once or who knows, maybe more than that.

I may be the only Minnesotan who thinks this but… Sammy’s pizza is not the BEST pizza in the entire world. The owners are nice but the staff isn’t all that friendly — - at any location. And every time I’m dragged there(against my will, for another family function) the place is always dirty. So forgive me, but I’d rather have pizza from VIP or buy my own frozen pizza.

Good thin crust pie, we picked ours up I’d recommend delivery the parking lot is shared with a gas station on a busy corner. It was a little hectic. We will Definitely order from there again

Sammy’s is definitely a family tradition. My Grandparents have been coming here since the original Sammy’s first opened. This is my favorite Sammy’s location. Great thin-crust pizza cut in squares. Definitely a great place to stop when visiting Duluth. The pepperoni pizza is very good and so is the garlic cheese bread with marinara dipping sauce. The vegetables are generally crisp and fresh if you are in the mood to add some fresh peppers to your pizza. Quite a few people in my family would also recommend the beef and onion pizza… which is good every once in awhile. Maybe order one of each and switch off between the two.

Northern Minnesotans love their Sammy’s, started in Hibbing Minnesota decades ago, and now spreading across the Upper Midwest. Ultra thin crust, some locations also offer buffets and ‘broasted chicken’. A must stop for pizza fans, and Duluth natives home for a visit.

For the down to earth person this is a great option for pizza in Duluth. Not fancy but good pizza.

I grew up eating pizza from Sammy’s… Always raving about it and craving it when I would be away from Duluth. If family was in town we would(and still do) without question go to Sammy’s. It’s great for big groups, pictures of beer, lots of pizza to share and they are always very helpful and friendly. Delivery lately hasn’t been up to par though…(that’s why they don’t get 5 stars from me) many times they throw on way too much cheese, or the crust isn’t quite right. I will say this isn’t always the case though. Maybe 1 out of 4 times am I left a bit disappointed. But because I am a long time lover of Sammy’s I will give it the benefit of the doubt(they have been more than excellent for most of my life), but if you can — I say go in and order a pizza at the restaurant. Seems like you can’t go wrong there. The cheesy garlic bread is a great way to start out!

Every year our family(all adults now) visit the North Shore from Minneapolis. We make a point of visiting Sammy’s Downtown at least once for the lunch buffet. It is fabulous! A perfect crust with great toppings and sauces, what a treat. Wish we had the original Sammy’s much closer to home!

Best pizza I have ever had. Perfectly spiced sauce with delicious mozzarella cheese. The crust is what separates Sammy’s from the pack. It is hand tossed right in front of you and then the crust is crimp folded. If you don’t like thin-crust pizza, then this is not your place. I went to school in Duluth for several years and I have had hundreds of these pies. If your a tourist, don’t even mess around with any other delivery options. The owners are the original Sammy’s grandchildren. They are Italians that live and breathe pizza. This is a wonderful family owned joint with secret family recipes that have been handed down for generations.

I have to update my review of Sammy’s downtown. I found myself(once again) craving a Sammy’s pie while staying at the Holiday Inn. I decided I would tell whoever answered the phone my tale of woe of how three times in a row they had delivered me sorry excuses for a Sammy’s Pizza but I was giving them once last chance to deliver me the pie of my dreams. And they did! They’re back in my good graces. For now.

Ate here for lunch while in town on business. Sat down and had the lunch buffett, which is a salad bar, bread and a variety of pizza pies. The assortment includes hamburger, cheese, pepperoni and sausage. The pizza is typical chain-type pizza with a thin crust. Better than the national chain pizzas but not gourmet.
