We went in with high hopes considering the rave reviews on Unilocal. Our experience was merely okay, and we won’t be going back the next time we’re in Durango. Environment: While the place definitely has a classy vibe and great décor, the functionality is questionable. Our table for two was very small and positioned against a wall and very near two other tables, one behind(at the restaurant’s window) and one to the left(near the entrance). The dining experience therefore wasn’t particularly private and the section we were seated in somewhat claustrophobic. The table was also very small — barely enough table top real estate to accommodate entrees, beverages, and the various decorations/seasonings. Environment: 3⁄5 Service: Our server was the most positive part of the dining experience. She was very friendly and prompt on refills and taking our orders. Our meal also arrived quickly, so the kitchen and other wait staff were on their toes. Service: 5⁄5 My wife had the pistachio-crusted grouper with a sweet potato smash, sauteed spinach, and vanilla rum butter. In theory, this sounds great. In execution, it was everything but. It seemed like an attempt at making a dinner from a «Chopped» basket of random ingredients. The flavors didn’t really work well together, the presentation was unattractive(and the fish seemed overdone). Worse, the grouper had an aftertaste reminiscent of mildewed cloth(we all know the smell: a floor cleaned with a mop that was never properly dried, or a damp washcloth left out for too long). She was unable to finish her meal. I had the rigatoni with sautéed shrimp, garlic butter, kalamata olives, basil and tomatoes topped with arugula and caper salad. You can’t really mess up those ingredients, and I enjoyed my meal. However, the dish was was really nothing special. That said, I didn’t encounter any of the edibility problems my wife did. Food: 2⁄5

The food was amazing. Very fresh seafood. If you want the Friday Special of Prime Rib get there early. It was sold out by 7pm. I can’t imagine you could order anything bad. Our waiter was a little all over the place but he got our order perfect. A must eat.

So this would’ve been good, had they not served my Caribbean jerk chicken half raw. Disgusting. If you can’t cook chicken, you probably shouldn’t be cooking. Disgusting. Ruined my night. This was after waiting an hour for our food.

We were so happy we decided to eat here. Everything was wonderful. The hostess and our server were both efficient and friendly. We shared the pasta special which was delicious and the perfect size to share. The food came out really fast, too. We would definitely eat here again if we get back to Durango.

The 4 stars almost scared me away with several other 4.5 star restaurants nearby. But I liked this menu better and I’m really happy we chose this place. Food was great, hostess was great, server was great. Standouts were the lolipop wings and chicken ceasar salad, but there were so many things I wanted to try. Great experience.

This place was recommended by a local that worked at a different bar in town. My wife and I decided to change our plans and go here instead of where we had originally planned. It was even better than we expected with great food and service, far exceeding our expectations. The price was much less than we expected and the food and service was much better… we had the blueberry infused Peach Skyy vodka and it was wonderful. .highly recommended

I’ve never rated anything 5 stars to date — nothing is perfect. Well our dinner here last night was. From delicious Mojito-Tini to dessert. Our waitress(Emily) was delightful — could answer any questions we had about the menus, good job of describing the specials, was there when we needed anything. We sat outside — they have done a lovely job of turning a very large patio into small intimate areas with tents with screen sides. We had a spicy shrimp/rice; tuna steak that was perfectly cooked, and correctly rare; and the skirt steak special. Everything was spot on, sides as well! We shared the apple tart with ice cream and caramel sauce and the crème brûlée, which was the only disappointment. I like baked custard brûlée — this was like vanilla pudding, but the caramelized sugar crust was perfect. Our waitress heard us toasting a birthday we were celebrating, she took a picture of us all, printed it, and gave it to us in a card frame. A perfect end to a perfect dinner. We will be back

We are new to visiting Durango, and will be back as a result of a wonderful experience at Ken and Sues. Very popular place, needed reservations, well worth the effort. Service was excellent, food was excellent and unique, prices were fair. Be sure and take advantage of this defining experience when in Durango.

More than meh. My plank salmon was unseasoned and tasted like it was boiled. It was covered in a bland salad of fresh tomatoes and cucumbers which added nothing to the dish and placed on top of even more bland rice. I was so hungry and yet so disappointed by yet another bad meal on the road. While the service was pleasant the food I had would never bring me back. Skip it.

Stopped by for lunch on way to Pagosa Springs. This place was recommended by a nice lady in a local store. Lots of tables, I sat at bar since was dining alone. 6 others were dining at bar also. Only complaint is that only one person was working the bar. She was rather busy, but not bad. Menu is very extensive. She brought a nice bread basket to snack on. I had the Jamaican jerk halibut sandwich. Awesome. Great place!

The food here was absolutely excellent and the service even better. I had the angel hair with oven dried tomatoes house made tomato sauce garlic butter basil and chicken. This dish sounds less adventurous than the rest of the menu but it was extremely good. If I were to go back I would have no issue ordering the same thing because it was that good. Also I am from out of town and while the service was great while I was there, a week after I got back home I received a letter in the mail from the restaurant(specifically from my waiter Edgar) thanking me for coming in. That is what I call customer appreciation. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Durango area.

I’ve been coming to Ken and Sues for years. They’re great owners and it shows in the consistency at their restaurant. The steaks never fail to impress or if I order fish they’re spot on as well. Bartender, waitress all were fun and easy to talk to in Durango style. I ordered the filet and subbed broccoli. No worries everything was great. Steak cooked medium rare as I asked and broccoli cooked to perfection. Had Cabernet recommendation from waitress and it paired perfectly. I asked for big juicy red and I got it! Just wish I could remember the name of it. Can’t go wrong here although tight seating it’s always great!

I rarely give 1-star reviews. Very disappointing food and service. We came for a special occasion and left with shaking our heads. If I hadn’t been hosting special guests, I would have complained in a very big way. Definitely NOT recommended for vegetarians!!! They have very few options, and what they have is not good. I had some lead-heavy gnocchi with a heavy dull cream sauce and a few morsels of veggies. The menu listed it with chicken along with spinach and sun-dried tomatoes, and the waiter offered to replace the chicken with«extra veggies.» What I got was a plate of gnocchi with a few leaves of spinach and a few sundried tomatos. If that’s their idea of «extra veggie», what does the standard version look like? It was an overly rich, globby muck. Would have been tasteless without the spark of a few sun-dried tomatoes. I ate some of it, and left feeling like a lead ball had landed in my belly. One of my companions had the stir-fry shrimp and veggie rice bowl. Again, the waiter said they would replace the shrimp with extra veggies. What he delivered was basically a bowl of fried rice. Barely a veggie chunk to be seen anywhere, much less tasted. The quality was on par with a cheap Chinese buffet or an airport food court. As the host, I was outraged. When the waiter came back with his absurd over-cheerfulness, I requested more veggies for my guest. A long time later, the waiter brought a small bowl of tasteless veggies — without acknowledging that he had not kept his promise to either of us to provide the meat-priced dishes with«extra veggies.» Another companion ordered the salmon which she said was tasty, but was buried in a huge pile of chopped cucumbers(described pompously on the menu as «tomato-cucumber salsa.» Bland and a ferocious waste of food. What does this restaurant have going for it? A prime location, an upscale atmosphere, and a pretentious-sounding menu. Maybe this is good enough southwestern Colorado where the options for fine dining are pretty slim, but DON’T BEFOOLED. Go down the street to Chimayo or the Himalayan kitchen. Much, much better food. If you desperately need a pretentious atmosphere, come on in for a drink and eat elsewhere!

Rerouted our holiday to have a second dinner at Ken and Sues, it’s that good. Make sure you get your reservation as far in advance as possible, because demand is high. Every part of the meal is great. From bread to salad to steak to incredible crème brûlée, it’s all exquisite. Our greatest meal experience was the tasting menu at Gramercy Tavern in New York. It was a $ 450 wonderful treat. This place is better.

LOVED! We happened to stumble upon this adorable little restaurant while on vacation, and couldn’t have been happier! The ambiance in the restaurant was perfect, the hostess and our waitress were both extremely friendly and helpful. The food was some of the best I’ve ever had, and so were the handcrafted, unique cocktails. I can’t wait to come back!

One of the best meals we’ve had since moving home and our waiter Christian was such a delight and every one of his recommendations was spot on. We had the salmon cakes for an appetizer which was delicate but meaty. Our main entrees were amazing; my husband had the prime rib and I had the seared ahi. Both were cooked perfectly and the sides were paired amazingly. Oh and the dessert, the signature dish is the crème brûlée and though I’m not typically a crème brûlée fan, I about licked the glass it came in. We also had the white chocolate cheesecake on Christians recommendation and we are so happy we did. We can’t wait to go back!

Environment and décor are really important to me when choosing restaurants when I travel — I really like nice places that embody the town where I am visiting. Ken and Sue’s does just that! This was my first time to Durango, and I decided to go here based on a walk and remembering it from previous Unilocal reviews. I am so glad we choose this place over many other restaurants in the town. Between the music and décor, they set a great mood. The staff was also really friendly. We tried several things on the menu and none disappointed: Apple walnut salad, chicken pot stickers, wine, and the Crème brûlée. That was so good! Would love to come back again.
