Now that I’ve been living in the big bad city of Denver for over a year I still miss this restaurant! I’ve visited Durango a few times since I moved(most recently this past weekend) and they NEVER disappoint. I went there this past Sunday for Valentine’s Day and my birthday(have to take advantage of their awesome birthday discount!) and everything from the drinks, to the cornbread, to the entrée, to the chocolate covered strawberries were amazing as always. I went with my boyfriend(it was his first time in town!) and another couple. I got my usual — NY Strip, rare, Ore House Style. My boyfriend got the Flat Iron, rare, ranchero style with a side of brussels sprouts(as suggested by one of the servers — Krystin Wignall). The other couple split two dishes — Petite Filet Mignon, Ore House Style and the Alaskan King Crab. There wasn’t much left on our table after we were finished which I believe is a true sign the food was delicious! It is a GREAT way to cap off a day of skiing! There are a few main reasons why I LOVE this place: 1. it’s the BEST steak I’ve ever had and certainly the most tender(my boyfriend agreed-he’s worked in restaurants before and said«this is the best steak I’ve ever had in a restaurant») 2. The ingredients are TRULY local. For those of you who don’t know(and I will leave the names of the restaurants out, of course!) the Ore House is one of the very few restaurants in Durango who actually uses local ingredients. The majority of the places will have an ingredient or two that are local and up-charge you claiming they use only local ingredients. 3. EVERYONE I’ve ever been served by whether they are a friend or not… are SO nice. There are plenty of places that forget it’s a customer service industry but the bartenders, servers and managers are always on top of their game and looking for ways to better themselves. Ryan Lowe, Chrissy Murrah, and Ryan Cleveland(all of whom I know personally) certainly know what they are doing — and definitely make me miss this incredible restaurant and always have me coming back for more! And I know I’m not the only one!

Had my birthday dinner here I had the Prime rib steak, it was tough and grizzled! What a disappointment. The corn bread was very dry and gritty

Outstanding restaurant. From top to bottom, we had a great experience. Very good cocktails and a perfect steak. Everything we ordered was just outstanding.

The food was really great for a nice meal to celebrate the new year! However our server didn’t pay much attention to us at all. He seemed to be more occupied with waiting on bigger parties. Needless to say, we will definitely come back next time we are in Durango and hopefully have a more attentive waiter or waitress.

Sir, you understand that«rare» means a cool, pink center don’t you? Yes ma’am, if it comes out any other way, I won’t enjoy it. We had an early dinner but just the same, my boy asked if he could get the Prime Rib very rare(specifically cooked to about 110 degrees) and if not, he’d order a steak. After being assured that the center cut of the roast would yield a piece of rare, he committed to the Prime Rib. By nature, Prime Rib is a pink cut of meat and although his beef was nice and pink, his cut was medium. As soon as I mentioned that my lobster was overcooked and the steak was more of a medium rare to medium but since I was rushed I was going to hang on to it, my service went from good to poor. The server literally turned to ice on us and I do not think we’ll be returning. $ 160 for two and the meal was fair at best. Sides are served a la carte and are not economical for one or two people. Be prepared to drop a ton of money if you dine here and weigh it against purchasing some of the fine beef or bison from this region and preparing it at home at a fraction of the cost. Some of the best regional, prime bison and grass fed beef is available for under $ 30/#. I get that some people enjoy treating themselves and eating out but seriously, you can purchase two cuts of beef or bison and two, 8 – 10 ounce Lobster tails along with sides and salad makes for under $ 100. Prepare them at home without overcooking the beef or lobster and go to bed happy knowing that you spent one third of what you would have spent at the Ore House. Eating out is great when you get what you ordered and subsequently paid for. The restaurant has a certain, appealing charm inside but after giving this place four chances, we’re seeking another fine dining restaurant in the Durango area. If you have any suggestions as to consistently reliable and good fine dining in the Durango area, please email me at Bottom line is that if your $ 50 cut of meat comes out any other way than how your ordered it, send it back and when your server turns to ice, stiff them on the tip.

Made the mistake of going across the street for a steak a couple of weeks ago and left very disappointed. Made it to the Ore House this week and left full and thrilled I found awesome steaks in Durango! A new go-to!

We ate here on our last night in Durango, so glad it wasn’t on our first or we’d be fat and broke! We had the surf n turf… looked small when it came to the table, but oh man was it ever delicious! It was just enough. This will be a must have the next time we come. The prices are absolutely worth the quality. Reservations are recommended as we sat in the bar and felt that was the only minus of our experience.

They got rid of the salad bar?! Years ago I used to come here with my family and gorge on the delicious salad bar that came with a meal. Unfortunately this doesn’t exist anymore and they now charge you for side dishes which is kind of lame given the price you are paying for a steak. HOWEVER. I like to come to the Ore House for appetizers and drinks. They have five or six legit items but my favorites are the mixed grill and the snow crab and shrimp cocktail. The mixed grill has three types of meats paired with three distinct sauces. This time around it was pork belly, sausage, and a cut of steak with a molasses sauce, a mustard sauce, and a jalapeño pineapple sauce. DELICIOUS. The seafood was delectable as well; fresh, clean tasting, and great with lemon and cocktail sauce. The greens they were served on where edible as well: D All in all I don’t really like to come here for dinner anymore but apps and drinks are the way to go for sure! The décor is also really cool because they have old-town Durango and mining items on the walls.

Every now and then you just need to treat yourself to a darn good meal and for me.. . A great steak @ the Ore House totally fits the bill. After enjoying a well-made White Russian I started with an exceptionally great Caesar salad. I was then served some yummy corn bread while I awaited my dinner. I chose the ‘Ore House style’ for my New York steak. This was crab meat, Bernaise sauce and grilled asparagus. To say that absolutely everything about the meal was perfect would not be an exaggeration! My steak was flavorful and cooked exactly as ordered. My husband ordered salmon and was very pleased as well. The desserts looked pretty tasty, but we simply had no room for more. From the serving staff to ambiance. This was a great meal. When you are in the mood for one of Durango’s epic dining experiences, then go no further.

Ore House is a really nice and somewhat intimate restaurant. Call ahead and make a reservation! My boyfriend and I were walking along Main Street and saw Ore House. The outside was a bit deceiving– we anticipated a more casual restaurant. Upon walking in, we were surprised to find a nice, cozy restaurant. The host informed us that there had been a cancellation and we could be seated right away. We took him up on this offer and were seated. Our waitress was really sweet and friendly. They serve complimentary cornbread in a small flat iron dish with bacon butter. I am not a fan of bacon(I know, I know), and I still enjoyed the butter — just a hint of the bacon taste! I ordered the steak and fries and my boyfriend ordered the chicken Cordon Bleu with the crab macaroni and cheese. We both really enjoyed our meals. My steak was cooked perfect, the salad was delicious and the fries were good. The Crab Mac was amazing. For dessert we ordered ice-cream and tiramisu. Perfect to share! Ticket price was about $ 100 — but well worth it!

the best ribeye steaks in the 4 corners!!! we ate here in april 2015. we made reservations because we were not sure what the wait times would be like. well, when we arrived there were only 3 tables being occupied. the hostess was very nice. the feel of the interior of the restaurant was very miner’ish. our server did a great job. all that has been mentioned was great but the real reason why this place earned 5 stars is because the food! we ordered civiche for our appetizer. it was our first time ever and it was awesome! the server recommended the tomahawk steak(32 oz bone in ribeye) and HOLYBATMAN!!! the best ribeye i had in the area. no joke. we ordered mac & cheese and creamed corn as our sides. both were very good. for dessert we ordered cheese cake and crème brûlée. again, they were amazing! our bill before tip was $ 124 and that was without adult beverages! it was so worth every dollar! i would definitely make the drive and spend that kind of money for the ore house experience!

I LOVETHEOREHOUSE!!! I know, I know… It’s not hip, it’s not new, it’s not flashy… But, damn it’s good!!! As a family we had; Ribeye, T-Bone, fingerling potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, lobster mac and cheese(with green chile) and crème brûlée :-) Best steaks around! Lobster mac and cheese is OFFTHEHOOK! Mushrooms and fingerling potatoes INCREDIBLE! I hit the food wall peeps! I wish I could have done more damage, but you can only take in so much awesomeness!!! Mark was a fantastic server — oh! Almost forgot — ask Mark to bring you corn bread with BACONBUTTER!!! Boom! That just happened :-)

5-Stars All The Way! If a large bathroom is important to you, this isn’t your place LOL. Aside from the hysterically small men’s room(you have to see it to believe it) this place delivers on so many levels I don’t know where to start. We arrived early for a business dinner and bellied up to the bar for a quick cocktail. Ordered a single Vodka, on the rocks and the very friendly bartender delivered a generous pour. I hate when restaurants are stingy on the pour. Not this place! The restaurant itself is small. I recommend getting a reservation which is easy to do online. The menu is simple and includes steak and seafood with the sides ordered separate similar to Ruth’s Chris or Morton’s. By the way, the food we received here at Ore House was better than both of those restaurants. I ordered a small Prime Flat Iron steak(10 oz) with the Tobacco Onions(Holy Crapoly are these things good!!!). Steak came out piping hot and cooked to perfection and cut easily without a knife. When you order with the Tobacco Onions(like deep fried onion strips) you get three dipping sauces on the side. I never used any of the sauces as the steak was incredibly delicious by itself of with the fried onions. We ordered a bottle of Silver Oak Cab also and if you know your wines, you know this one is particularly good… and not too overpriced in the restaurant. And served at the perfect temperature. The staff are incredible. No less than three different servers stopped to check how our meal was going. Top notch all the way. Go! Enjoy!!!

Steak, salad and potatoes… Simple to master right? This place has it DOWN! Great cuts of steak, an awesomely, fresh salad bar before your entrée and a rustic mountain town/mining atmosphere make this place a must for any local or visitor. I don’t go anywhere else in town when I want a good steak, so if it’s beef you’re craving, seek this joint out. Easy to find, near the corner of College & Main

This is hands down one of the top 3 restaurants in Durango. I have never had a bad meal at The Ore House. Their kitchen staff takes their craft seriously, and every plate is gorgeous as well as delicious. The Front of House staff is friendly and knowledgable, and always makes me feel at home. I strongly suggest the Surf & Surf & Turf with a side of their Crab Mac & Cheese!

We went for NYE fun. The staff were both friendly and prompt, however the food has some mixed reviews. 1) The salads were slightly over dressed, which is a bummer because the dressing were fabulous. 2) The cokes for our libations were flat, not a good problem for NYE. 3) The steaks were cooked perfectly, get the dry aged it’s amazing. 4) The think layer of cocoa powder on top of the tiramisu pretty much ruined any chance of tasting the rest of the desert. 5) Nonetheless, the sides won us over with a lemony crab mac and cheese and balsamic brussels sprouts.

Recommeded to us by the bed and breakfast we are staying at… what a night! We started with the steak tartare. SOFREAKINGGOOD! Perfect buttered crostinis and baby greens surrounds the garlic and oil dressed steak and egg yolk. Probably the most amazing food I have eaten in some time. Next course was surf & surf & turf. Rare bacon wrapped filet medallions, crab and lobster on top of decadent hollandaise. Asparagus and potatoes. The ambiance was casual but the food was 5 star. The drinks were original and fun. I would happily drive to Durango next week to eat here again. Lisa, our server was unbelievable. The whole experience was out of this world.

Best steak I have ever eaten, hands down. Our meal was perfect, the service was wonderful. The only bad thing was the bartender had run out of Peychaud’s bitters for a Sazerac, then forgetting our drink order and serving 6 others who came in after us while trying to claim he was«going around the bar to be fair.» The maître d’ let him know we had been waiting for our drinks but that just seemed to make the bartender move slower. When we finally got our drinks 45 minutes later they were delicious and the maître d’ did comp them so it helped with our disappointment regarding the poor bar service. I strongly recommend the Prime Rib Eye and have it Ore house style, and the creamed corn side dish is great!
