Everything except the produce and bread is fozen. Frozen patties, onion rings, fries… but, if you want an old fashioned style burger and fries in a real small diner setting. this place is perfect. Prices are very reasonable as well.

I came here not so long ago and I was wondering where to eat. I saw this small burger place and I wondered in. Thankfully I did because I left really happy! The price for a burger fries and a soda was really affordable and the taste of the burger was delicious. I was even thinking about buying another burger to go, but I knew I would not be able to finish it. The food, price and workers makes me want to say I want to come back! I won’t forget the taste of my meal that day. I will recommend this place to my friends.

Old School Style kind of place… its tiny with a couple of comfortable stools at the counter, and a few tables and chairs. The workers are really nice and attentive. The hamburgers were delicious made right in front of you. I order a hamburger combo with jalapenos and mushrooms(don’t judge) and the size of it is pretty decent, thick burger patty and all the fixings. The fries were awesome too, not overly salty. I will for sure come back again and try their chili cheese fries. Great prices too!!!

We were only staying one night in the area and wanted a quick authentic burger meal. We found The Red Onion from Unilocal recommendations. The tiny building is located under the Bart rails so you’re going to hear the added noise, seating is minimal plus added counter seating. Brace yourself for a typical burger joint, but that’s what drew us in! It seems that this place is a local favorite, very busy and quick service. The service was good, polite and easy to communicate with. Super inexpensive, almost felt that it was priced too low. We ordered the hamburger and cheese burger with grilled onions which if done over I would have passed on the cheese, it was too much and over barring to the burger and split an order of fries. The fries were very good, cooked perfectly and serves hot! Burgers were very good too, but the bun cracked and crumbled falling apart, so I ended up just leaving it and finished the burger. I don’t know why pickles were omitted from the basket, I didn’t even think to ask. Now after I finished my meal I had to wash up, the bathroom is accommodating, only no paper towels to dry your hands. It would be a plus if they wiped down the condiment bottles on the tables. I would return again for the quick burger meal.

Have had breakfast here many times, either Lupitas scramble or the breakfast sandwich. Nice little local diner, personable, cheap, reliable. If you call in or get takeout, they’ll have your order ready in minutes. Not the healthiest food, but still good when you’re craving hash browns and eggs.

Juicy burger with pepper jack cheese, bacon, avocado and grilled onions. Comes with mayo, mustard, lettuce, and tomato. Meets expectations of quality, consistent food, expedient prep, friendly staff, and clean location. Located on the corner of San Pablo and Conlon, on the other side of the street from Home Depot. Private, free parking lot with plenty of spots. Quaint restaurant with a couple bar seats facing the action, and 2-person tables lining the windows. Order first. Pay after eating if dining in, after food is ready if to go. They take orders by phone and accept cash or card– though there isn’t a place to add a tip on the receipt, so bring a couple bucks to drop in the jar.

I’ve been coming here for over 20 years. Nothing has changed, thankfully. Total dive but great burgers. Not much seating but most customers get to go so I can always find a seat. Breakfast looks good but I come for the burgers. Enjoy.

Old school burger joint. Good burgers, friendly staff, recommend if you want an old fashioned tasty burger instead of a fancy modern burger.

Oh Red Onion how do I love thee. But seriously though, this little joint is good. I’ve been to a couple of their locations and have tried a couple of their delicious options. They have pretty much any kind of «burger“one could ever want. Beef, chicken, turkey, salmon, and my favorite alternative, the veggie burger. They also have a BLT, which I will try at some point. I love hamburgers. Big, juicy, loaded burgers. The Red Onion far outweighs any In N Out burger, in my humble opinion. They offer several add ons including pineapple, mushrooms, bacon, cheese(obvi), mild peppers and avocado. I’m now craving a burger thinking about it. On the menu for me tonight was a veggie burger. It was the first one I’ve had here and I LOVED it. Let’s not kid ourselves, a veggie burger does not taste like a regular hamburger. It tastes like a veggie burger. I ordered mine with added avocado because you know, potassium :). I was only disappointed I didn’t order their fries, which come as a large portion, and they are darn good. The service at this location tonight, and every night, is excellent. Super friendly cashier. I was in and out in under 10 min as they weren’t that busy, which worked out well bc I was anxious to get home and out of my work clothes. There will be more Red Onion in my future.

We dined in because we wanted to experience their breakfast. Ordered two mini breakfast plates which she allowed us to customize. For myself scrambled eggs, sourdough, hash brown. For the other, French toast with an egg sunny side up. Quick and pleasant service. Tasty and rememberable food.

It shouldn’t be surprising when I ordered my burger and the waitress asked if I wanted grilled or raw onions — I ordered raw onions — that they would load on the red onions. I’ve never understood why restaurants pile on onions. I love onions but if I wanted the overwhelming taste of onions, I’d just eat a freakin’ onion by itself. So I should’ve told them to go easy on the onions. Fine. Just order at your own risk. I ordered the Western Burger and my wife ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger. What I remember is onions but once I pulled some of them off, I tasted a good blend of bacon, Bulls Eye BBQ sauce, and typical burger condiments. My wife let me taste her Bacon Cheeseburger and that was a beautiful sloppy mess. And they weren’t stingy with the bacon on either burger. We also ordered the Half-Half fries; half seasoned and half onion rings. We could see steam rising from the fries and they were nothing special. The seasoning didn’t have enough potency to matter. Still needed ketchup. Overall, you’re going to eat good burgers. Just go easy on the onions if you want to taste the burger.

Amazing little burger joint! I’ve seriously been looking for a hole in the wall like this for almost a year that I’ve lived in El Cerrito. Pros: The cook seems to enjoy making some good food, the wait staff is always engaging and kind. The burger itself is juicy, cheesy and fresh. Fries are nice and crispy. Haven’t tried the onion rings yet but they look delicious. Much much better than the alternative, «Nations» right around the corner from me. Cons: the restaurant itself is small, the ventilation system makes an awful humming at a super low frequency. And the parking lot is less than ideal. These things have nothing to do with the service and yum factor, so 5 stars it is:) they need to expand, they’d do great!

Dirt cheap and darn delicious! This is such a great example of a simple old-school burger joint. The staff is super friendly the dive-vibe is comforting like the food. With a nice bike ride to and from home on the path just behind the restaurant I didn’t feel guilty I was eating such greasy deliciousness!

I used to come here in the 80s when i lived in Richmond and aside from the change in ownership, everything else has remained the same. Deliciously messy burgers, tasty fries, solid malts/shakes and fantastic onion rings. Their location in El Sobrante is equally fantastic.
