Meh sushi was okay. I love miso soup and their soup was like warm and really salty. Also our server had a cast on his thumb and it definitely went into my soup.

This is one of favorite places in EL Paso to eat sushi. The food is fresh and Ji has amazing way of presenting it just right. Dragonfly is must to experience. Great staff friendly very knowledgeable on all food and wines.

This review is only on sushi and I had a takeout order. First off the 2 stars is more of a disappointment with the sushi. The individual on the phone and the service would absolutely deserve 5 stars. My wife and I both grew up in a coastal town which has an abundant selection of sushi restaurants. Everyplace had their own«original» sushi selection, but they also had the«staple» selection too. At Dragonfly Wine & Sushi Bistro, I applaud that they are striving to push the limits a little and have a higher scale selection. The prices are higher and you won’t find those familiar flavors that you may be accustomed. The sushi was very small(diameter) compared to what I have ever seen! With sushi I would say that size doesn’t matter, but it must have the flavor! Maybe because of the size, I was missing the flavor of all the great looking ingredients! I love to eat sushi without wasabi and soy sauce because it’s just so flavorful. I felt like I was drenching the sushi with soy sauce to get some semblance or flavor. This was our, my wife and I, opinion. It’s worth a try, you will find a great dating atmosphere with a consistence wait staff. When we are having another sushi craving, we will have to find another place to go.

We have been to Dragonfly at least 5 or 6 times since it opened last year and have never been disappointed. We usually order more items than we can finish because the menu is so enticing. The quality of the fish is very high and he is easily the most creative Japanese chef in El Paso. While the location is off the beaten path, it is less than a mile from the Redd exit of I-10.

Very good experience. The server was very attentive and helpful. The food was very good. I had the special which was the coconut yellowtail and the vegas roll. The coconut yellowtail was fantastic although a little on the small side for the price. The vegas roll was slightly overcooked but still very good. The alcohol selection was very good as well. I will definitely be coming back here for more sushi in the future

Probably my favorite sushi place in town along with Hamachi in NE El Paso. I had driven by here tons of time and never really gave it a second thought. One day my wife and I were both craving sushi and one of the other places we frequent was packed with a wait, so we decided to give this place a try. Are we glad we did!!! A nice variety of rolls, but my personal favorite, and how I gauge a sushi place, is their Nigiri Sushi is fantastic. They even have a dinner of just Nigiri Sushi on the menu, which I absolutely love. I kinda feel like any bar or bistro can churn out decent sushi rolls, but traditional Japanese Nigiri Sushi is hard to do well in the borderland for geographical reasons. Dragonfly does is well and is worth a try for anyone in the region that enjoys their sushi.

I could not say enough about Dragonfly. It is truly an oasis in a desert of bland, beige, cream cheese covered sushi. I have eaten all over the world, and I have to admit, I never thought my absolute favorite restaurant ever would be in El Paso, TX. It became a standard when ever we went. The fish is incredibly fresh, Ji has it flown in, and creates magic with it. Chef Yoshi made the most intricate, surprising rolls. And if you get a chance, the Chef’s tasting menu is the way to go for a special night. Sadly they have ruined sushi for me anywhere else.

This is my 100th review on Unilocal.I could think of no better place to review than Dragonfly. This is an upscale Japanese Bistro with a highly creative menu and fresh authentic sushi. The variety of fish and sashimi is astounding especially for a city in the middle of a desert. The flavor is bold and fresh! I came in with some pretty high expectations after hearing my friends rave about this place. My expectations were not only met but they were shattered. I was not expecting this level of expertise and creativity. The staff is very personable and since I went with my friends the staff were already knowledgeable on their likes and dislikes. I was treated with respect and friendliness unlike any I’ve had at a restaurant in El Paso. The owner/chef Ji is a much needed presence in this city. He brings a whole culture with him to this town. We need more local businesses and we need diversity. Ji provides this and more by striving to be excellent and exceptional. Get the specials, try all the sashimi, eat the ramen. I need to come back more so I can have everything on the menu. I’ve tried a lot of stuff here and nothing has been disappointing. I can’t wait to come back and eat here again. I look forward to it every time.

You know when a waiter tells you«I’m impressed you ate that much», you have become a legend, for better or worse. I finally tried Dragonfly on Chef Yoshi’s last day. Although he was at the sushi counter, I got so little sushi, it seemed a shame. From the bar I ordered Uni(sea urchin) nigiri and Masago(flying fish roe) nigiri. Both were very good(both quality and taste), and had I not ordered appetizers and soup, would’ve tried more, either the avant garde or the special of the day. Did I say appetizers? Yeah, I ordered multiple apps, don’t judge me! These were actually the weak point of the trip. I ordered the roasted shishito peppers, which according to the menu, have eel sauce and lime. I did notice the eel sauce, but instead of lime, there was either Tajin(mexican lime/chile salt) or togarashi(Japanese chili flake condiment). There was so much, I made a mini Mt Fuji with the left over dust. Not only that, but one of the interesting things about shishito peppers is that they are usually mild, but one in every 100 is spicy. So the last pepper I had, with the chili on top, was enough to numb my mouth until the next appetizer came. The other appetizer I ordered was actually a trio of tastings: seaweed salad, veggie croquettes and the jalapenoholic). The seaweed salad was good, I just don’t like when they serve it on an actual salad. The croquettes were fine. I actually wanted to lick the sauce off the plate. The one I thought I would like the most, I liked the least. The jalepenoholic is a tempura battered jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and salmon. Tempura was on point, nice an crunch. The jalapeño was still crisp and spicy. The interior left a lot to be desired. The cream cheese completely drowned out the salmon making it bland. For my entrée, I got the Seafood Sapporo Ramen. This made the trip. The sharable sized portion came with half a crab, shrimp, a couple of mussels, three strips of fish and octopus pieces, all of which were added at the right time so the texture of each was perfect. The real winner was the broth. It was fishy, in the best way possible, and tasted like it had been reducing for hours by a loving mama-san whose sole job it is to babysit said ambrosia. It was so good, I almost went back again the day after to try the lobster bowl which has the same broth base. I know Yoshi will be missed, best wishes in his next venture. I truly hope without him, the standards and quality remain the same.

The food at Dragonfly is absolutely delicious. The quality of the fish is great and the variety of sushi and sashimi is superlative. I will continue to come back to Dragonfly and try all the other offerings on the menu. I absolutely love the udon and the wonderful desert menu that does change from time to time — a definite plus in my book. I love to be kept guessing at what wonderful treats that may be in store for my next visit. The staff at Dragonfly is friendly, courteous and well mannered. The service is awesome! Props to the new waiter Gabriel for the awesome service he provided me and my family on our last visit. Remember to ask for the specials and recommendations for something new or different. I’m a a huge fan of Dragonfly but it is not a daily thing for a family budget. Additionally, I’m not a fan of the plastic furniture. Overall, a solid dinner choice for a date night of great sushi et al.

Dragon Fly is truly the best sushi in El Paso. The fish is fresh and every roll has a unique and exotic flavor. My favorite combo is starts out with the tataki, followed by a Lexus roll and then some octopus sashimi. This is a perfect place to take your out of town friends.

We ordered a seafood soup, some sashimi and a couple of rolls. The food was ok, but the prices seemed high for the quality and the ambiance. It is not a fancy location, the décor and furniture were mismatched and crowded. It is located in a strip center next to a huge country bar. We had a nice server, but it was clear that he had little experience. He was actually overly nice, and we could not get them to leave us alone to eat. Considering the prices, this is not a place I’d take children, either.

I expected a lot more from a place with such great reviews… The ambiance is decent aside from the plastic chairs that make you feel like you’re at a Quinceanera and the paper table setting that reminded me of a rib joint. They try and create a date night atmosphere which I think they almost would’ve achieved if I wasn’t so concerned with the possibility of my acrylic chair giving out under my 160 lb body. The food. Was meh for the price. We had miso soup(which I think is absurd to charge $ 2 for), a squid salad(delicious/fresh), and 2 rolls(The Hottie and the Yuzu Rainbow). Both we’re good, but for the price I expected to be blown away. I left hungry :(Anywhere else that would’ve been more than enough for us. I think a better bargain and quality of fish can be found at other places. Give Sushi Garden a try. P.S: As I scroll through the photos of the food I’m really disappointed that my experience wasn’t that great because the pictures look AMAZING…

I really love sushi! And after living in Hawaii on and off for many years, I think I can say that I know good sushi when I taste it. Dragonfly by far has the FRESHEST tasting ingredients in their sushi out of all the ELP sushi spots I’ve tried. And when your eating fish/raw fish, I’d say that’s pretty important. We got the Nami roll, bulgogi with black and white rice, shrimp tempura, and deconstructed cheesecake. Our meals also came with miso soup and they serve hot tea as well if you want it. We didn’t just enjoy the sushi but also the full experience. Clark, our waiter, was super knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. We were able to get small samples of beer and sake before ordering a glass. We also sat right up at the bar so we got to chat it up with Chef Yoshi. He’s thought of some super creative(and delicious) twists to bring traditional sushi to another level. They like to change things up every so often so you can try something new/different each visit. Like the deconstructed cheesecake flavors. Try the sashimi with the chef sauces! I loved the house hot sauce as well. Can’t wait to go there again! I got my eye on the chicken karaage and bunny roll next.

Stopped in to grab lunch. There were two other tables occupied so it was not overly busy. There was not a hostess on duty but a server led us to our seats. We settled in at the sushi bar and the chef politely said hello while he was making rolls. Although the atmosphere and décor are very casual, I will point out that there is a sign on the door about attire(example. no flip flops). Anyway, so we began looking over the yummy menu when our eyes fell on the lunch special… Select sushi half off! Please and thank you. My partner in crime and I order several rolls to share. Our server(who was awesome from start to finish btw) brought out hot miso soup to start with. The soup was pretty good, but standard. The sushi though… Yum! The quality was very fresh and the rolls put together nicely. Needless to say, clean plates and happy stomachs! If you are in the area, make it a point to stop by.

I am Japanese and I’ve spent my entire life there until I moved to the states 3 months ago, and I am telling you this place is by far the most authentic and best I’ve ever had in the states. The staff is very friendly and professional and the chef Yoshi-San creates great modern type of sushi. He said if they are not busy he could cook anything by request. Be aware of what you wear when you come here. On the entrance door they have a sign says«no flip flops, no T-shirts». Besides sushi they have Japanese noodles and Korean meals too!

Our quest(my wife and I) for japanese food in El Paso is over. Dragonfly is absolutely where it’s at. This place is amazing. Located waaaay out in the west side of the EPT(doniphan and redd road), it’s so worth the drive. The atmosphere is legit. Very clean and super trendy. The staff is so helpful, friendly and knowledgable. Loved every aspect of this place. The food is top notch. FYI: first japanese place we’ve found that the sushi chef(Yoshi) is actually from Japan. This please my wife(as she too is from Japan) and I. He and my wife talked for like an hour. Very refreshing to have authentic food made by an authentic chef. Yoshi’s take on each dish is so unique. Classic japanese dishes with interesting western fusions. He makes everything himself and so many dishes are exclusively found here at Dragonfly. Yoshi’s skill and creativity cannot be duplicated, anywhere. The crab Rangoon was perfect and infused with a special orange chili sauce. Wow. The salmon nigiri melted in your mouth. The Philadelphia roll was a must have … Twice. The Tonkotsu ramen(spicy) was perfect. The spicy soup reminded me of my favorite spot in Okinawa(hayatemaru ramen). If you go, please get the Lexus tint appetizer. The sauce used is perfect. Do NOT dip it in soy sauce… So many of Yoshi’s dishes are made so perfectly, that dipping or using any kind of sauce would actually mess it up. TRUST in Yoshi and the Dragonfly staff… They won’t disappoint you. For desert we had the crème brûlée. Amazing. Again all made from scratch. We ate about $ 100 worth a stuff, so full, yet so many more items we’ve yet to try. We decided immediately THIS was our go to place in El Paso, and we WILL go here once every 2 weeks. Take note my wife has only been out of Japan for 3 months now, so for her to vouch for this place should let you know, it’s well worth it. The word perfect can’t be used enough when describing this place. Japan traditional meets western trends… Amazing fusion. I’m so completely in love with this place. Yoshi is doing an outstanding job in the kitchen. Only been open about 8 months, and way out on the west side… But this place needs more play, cuz it’s worth it. If you want the real deal japanese, with a very unique twist, Dragonfly IS the place to be… This place has earned a 5 star rating from us, as well as our repeat and loyal business. Please, do yourself a favor, and make the drive out west. You won’t regret it… Mayne. #いただきます #美味しかった #やばい(*^_^*)
