Baja Fresh Mexican Grill

My last visit here was really disappointing. I watched our food sit on the counter for a good five minutes before the cashier person attended to it. When we finally got the food, I asked him if our burritos were going to be cold because of how long they sat out. He told me they came right out of the kitchen, and that was clearly a lie. That really irritated me. Our burritos were indeed cold but I honestly didn’t think complaining would do us any good.
My other issue with this place is their interpretation of enchilado style. I don’t mind paying extra for sauce and cheese, but I expect it to be all over the burrito AND chips (like in the ads). They really seem to skimp on this and I always have to ask for more sauce. If this were free I wouldn’t mind, but for two bucks I expect more.
It’s a shame this location’s integrity and attention to detail have declined. I sure do love their salsa bar but can’t deal with how annoyed I get almost every time I go.

Went tonight and ordered carry out. When we got home and after putting the babies to bed we realized one item was made incorrectly. I went back and although it was before 9pm the doors were locked. I knocked until someone came to the door. I explained the mistake and was told everything was off and put away. I politely explained it was late, that was our dinner and I would rather have it tonight than a free one another night. The nice young woman, Ysenia, said ok. She went back in and made a new itemTroy Gentile fresh and as we ordered. I appreciate the service, but it should be noted I was back at the store before closing time and they were already closed with all food put away and grills off.
In the end they made it right, I’m happy about that. We will be back.

Baja Fresh used to always be super busy here in Elk Grove and then I don’t know what happened. After almost a year, we started eating here again and it still delicious and tasty as before. The service is always great when we come. The cashiers have a nice sense of humor with a smile on their face.
I like the way they their new menu is laid out now with the added «Americano» style to things, for example, tacos with lettuce, cheese, and salsa rather than the usual pico de gallo that I usually take out because I can’t eat tomatoes/​onions. 2 steak taco plate combo has always been my go-​to! Comes with rice and black or pinto beans upon your choice. The unlimited salsa bar and tortilla chips are great.
What’s not to like? We’ll always be back!

Why did they forget to make my order? Sat around over 15 minutes while 2 people after me already got their food! Dude looked at me 2 times before I asked where my food was. How do you not see that you didn’t give me my food yet! There’s reasons why they are never busy. Must be the poor service. Dude didn’t even apologize or anything. Never coming back again and will let others know also.
LoL! As I’m walking out, they f’d up someone else’s order! SMH. Wonder if corporate reads these reviews.

Unfortunately this place seems to be going downhill. The salsa bar is often depleted and messy. The floor is also dirty along with the bathroom. Burritos aren’t as loaded anymore either.

This time was probably the gross and rude experience. While waiting in line with my mom we saw a cockroach on it’s back. While we were waiting for our turn in line since we were next, this old guy didn’t bother looking at us and cut in front of us. The girl saw that he cut in front but didn’t say anything. I only put two stars because their food is alright.

I like BAJA, I really like the fajitas and the service is good. Its pretty inexpensive– if you have a coupon and they are everywhere! I really like the mango salsa

Great place for good burritos. I think you know what you will get going into this place, and I happen to get the same thing every time, and it’s great! The service was pretty good. Had a nice chap named Caesare who helped me, and he seemed to do his job well. Always a great place to get a good filing meal.

I have been eating here for several years now and I have never had a bad meal. I generally order tacos or fajitas. Today I tried their version of a fajita bowl and it was just average. It had all the needed components of a great bowl, but just didn’t blow my mind. The ingredients were fresh and the salsa was pretty good. The chicken however was dry. I have had many variations of chicken dishes here and I have come to the conclusion that they over cook the chicken to ensure it is safe to eat. And while I do appreciate proper food handling I wish it was a more juicy piece of meat.
The salsa bar on the other hand is always a success. And the employees are all very nice and are quick to bring your order. It is a decent place to try if you want an inexpensive healthy meal.

I met this kid. The name was Emilio at the front counter. He blessed me with a great recommendation on ordering. It was a shrimp burrito. Then smiled so much that it turned my frown upside down and pushed me rite along into a great day! Highly recommended place to eat. See Emilio! Salsa bar was magnificent!!! 12 stars!

I realy like Baja Fresh. I’ve been coming to this location for years because my parents are huge fans. There are so many seafood options and that’s what my parents look for when eating out! Whether you’re looking to take a meal home or sit and eat at the location, I have few complaints about Baja Fresh.
I came by the other night and ordered a grilled shrimp salad. I was super impressed by the size of the salad and the abundance of shrimp it came with! The salad and dressing were delicious and fresh! While waiting for my food I enjoyed the extensive salsa bar which is always stocked with delicious choices. From pico de gallo to mango salsa I love all the choices!
The service was quick and friendly, but I must say the inside is very bland. White walls, white tables, it’s just so… Plain. They should really consider some kind of remodel or something! It’s very ehh when you’re inside! Aside from that I like Baja Fresh!

I tried BF today because I was tired of the long lines at Chipotles across the street. Also, the burrito at Chipotles has become way too salty the last few times I went. BF was practically empty, which was a warning. Price for a burrito was about the same at both places, however, BF’s burrito was much smaller. That was the first impression. I ordered the Mexicano burrito with carnitas. First bite… NO TASTE! The burrito was simply bland. I had to pour salsa on it with each bite. That was the only way to get any enjoyment from eating it. The meat itself was decent, but there was not a whole lot of it. The rice and bean were tasteless. I did get complimentary chips while waiting, so that was one star more than deserved. Would I go back? NO.

Not my first choice for Mexican food, but decent quality, delicious mango salsa, and they always feed me on my birthday :)
The good: My favorite salsa at the salsa bar, to go with the complimentary chips, has little bits of mango that is more sweet than spicy… perfect for me!
I normally get their Baja Burrito – the melted cheese and guac are a good addition. I’ve tried the Veggie Burrito before but missed the guac so went back to the Baja.
I also like their reusable drink cup. Buy it once, and every time after that, you get a gigantic refill for only a buck. I love the sweetened green tea they carry. Just make sure they know it’s your cup that you brought back – otherwise they’ll charge you for a new cup.
The good to know: Sign up for their emails, and you get a free burrito during your birthday week. Free stuff… who doesn’t like that?!
Would I come back? Yes. There are a few scenarios that keep bringing me back to Baja Fresh, which include me: getting thirsty while running errands nearby, getting my birthday coupon, and just craving that mango salsa.

Like the rating says when you select two stars… Meh. I’ve experienced better. I ordered the two taco plate. I selected chicken with flour tortillas and it came with rice and beans. The tacos were bland no flavor at all. I even tried to drown the tacos with the salsa they provided but no luck. The personal was friendly but the service is slow. There were hardly anyone there and it took them 15 min to get our food out. The cooks seemed like they didn’t want to work there at all. They all had :(faces. The salsa bar had a decent selections. First couple of chips were stale then towards the bottom of the bag they were better. I don’t think I would return to Baja Bland… I mean Fresh.

Another visit, another incorrect order. I even double-​checked when they handed it to me… I looked the girl in the eye and asked if the guac was on the side. She said «yes», so I took her word because I was in a hurry. Got home… No guac at all. :(
They weren’t even busy.

First off, I read the comment before me and I must honestly said that most of those negative comments are untrue! I love the Baja Fresh, and they are very very good!
1. There is no salad bar! Why there are comment that said the salad bar is dirty and sauces dripping all over the place? Are you sure you are commenting the same restaurant?
2. The service is actually better than most people think. I been to this joint so many times, and yes, 1 – 2 out of 10 times is slow, but hey, most time is fast.
3. They bring out the food to our table. Seriously, this is not good for you guys out there who give a negative comment? Talk about picky!
4. Freshness? The chips are warm and fresh. The beef is excellent! Burrito is delicious! The Mango sauce is to my mouth fresh like mango fresh! The tomato is juicy and fresh! As for the salad, sure it is not fresh, but really? You give 1 – 2 stars thinking salad is fresh in most joint in the US, seriously, you must be kidding me!
5. Cleanliness. Pretty clean to me. I see joint that are 10 times worst.
6. I do have one complaint and that is their seafood menu is really bad. So, that is why I taking 1 star off.

I dont know why I even try to eat fast food! Tonight was the first time in years that I went to this joint. I now remember why! Slow as snails and I was the only person there. The food was mediocre to say the least. The fish trio tacos where cold and dry. The salad was limp but had plenty of grilled chicken. The Baja style Carne asada burrito was meh I have had way better even at Jimboys! Then I get home and my order was incomplete! The Guac was not in my bag. I did call and they said «the next time your in»…well there most likely wont be a next time!
Like I said why do I even try fast food because it all sucks!

Had not visited this location for a number of years, and was pleasantly surprised. Variety of choices, generously portioned platters/​burritos at reasonable prices, clean restaurant, and I loved the fresh salsa bar. And I do mean fresh.
what really won me over was their flyers on how they are trying to reduce their carbon footprint. They have recently changed their suppliers for paper and plastic products, and are working to find more alternatives to their current food suppliers. They also have a nutritional facts sheet listing the benefits of certain food offerings. I cant say that for the other well known ‘quick food’ burrito chain nearby (and I am not a fan of that place anyway).
Keep it up, Baja Fresh. We will be back!

The Shrimp Burrito Ultimo. That deserves four stars by itself (order it «bare», or in a bowl, it’s a much better experience that way), but I give them five stars because of the salsas. I can eat five or six small servings of it no problemo. The baja salsa also compliments the chicken burrito well. But their mango (summer time of course) takes the cake.
Just so you Unilocalers know, Baja Fresh (as a chain restaurant) was on my bad list for a good five years (mainly because of the price), but this Baja Fresh in EG changed my opinion. The owners are good people too (but I am a little biased because I’m Filipino). Even when they’re busy they’ll bring the food out to you.

Welcome to Baja NOT SO FRESH!
This place use to be my favorite burrito joint, even with Chipotle around. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty vacant. Over the past years their freshness has definitely downgraded. The food is NOT fresh at all! The salad bar looked disgusting! The mild salsa with tomatoes literally looks like it’s been sitting out for days. You can totally tell nobody had paid any attention to the bar. There was sauce dripping on the sides and floor surrounding it. Nobody replaced the napkin or salsa cup tray.
I ordered a burrito and after taking three bites into it, my burrito literally fell apart. I found myself having to use a fork to finish the rest. The meat tasted quite bland; it wasn’t as juicy as I remembered it to be. If you’re in the area craving for Mexican food, I’d recommend you drive across the street to Chipotle for something more tastier and FRESH! You’ll definitely get a bigger bang for your buck!
