Great place for breakfast or lunch. Breakfast is always great, blueberry pancakes, omelets, ham off the bone all excellent! For lunch they always have 2 different homemade soups that are excellent! Their tuna and chicken salad are wonderful. If you have any lunch meat, it’s always Boar’s Head, not generic & blah. Everything is fresh and tasty and very reasonably priced. The couple that owns Prairie Café are very friendly and aim to please!

The cozy location and great service bump their rating to 3 stars. If I was only judging based on their food I’d give them 2 stars. I agree with previous reviews; hashbrowns and eggs were pretty dry. Portion sizes were fair for the lower prices. Nothing ‘wowed’ me — which is hard when it comes to breakfast, but I definitely could have made better food at home with better ingredients. The wheat toast that came with my omelet looked and tasted like it came from a $.99 loaf and the cheese on my husbands skillet looked like a Kraft single. Servers were very attentive and it’s a cute little café, but I won’t go back.

We’d never been here before so we decided to use a Plan-it discount as the incentive to give this place a try. The food was good; not great. Went downhill when we tried to use the discount. Although we bought the coupon at the end of January the owner said he doesn’t honor these anymore because they weren’t effective. So we were out the $ 10 cost of the coupon and the owner said he wasn’t responsible. Not great new customer service which convinced us that regardless that we liked the place fine, we don’t plan to return.

We were pretty excited to try this place for our standard Sunday breakfast. Unfortunately we left very disappointed. The food was standard breakfast fare, nothing impressive. The service was atrocious. There were only two other people in the restaurant yet it took over 30 minutes to get our food to the table. Would definitely not return.

In my opinion, the reviews of this restaurant are overstated. The food is just marginal. My friend and I both ordered a Denver omelet with fruit and a pancake. The omelet was very chewy. It was a flat omelet(tri-folded), not fluffy. For some odd reason, the pancake was also very tough and chewy. Trust me, it wasn’t just my meal, my friend had the same experience.
Based on the food alone, I would give this place only three stars. However, the server was super friendly. In addition, this is by far the cheapest breakfast(of this type) that you can buy in town. If you are on a budget, and hell-bent on eating breakfast out, this might be your best choice. My breakfast(Denver omelet, fruit, and a pancake) was only $ 7.25 including tax. I challenge you to find a better deal for this breakfast. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Unilocal! Updated 5÷26÷15 — I found a cheaper breakfast. The Wildflower Café at Elmhurst Hospital, and it’s better. Moved this one down to three stars, even though they were super friendly.

I was not impressed with this café at all. I had a very bland tuna sandwich and the café doesn’t offer an atmosphere that makes up for the food. I left feeling I would have been better off going home and making myself a sandwic

Really good breakfast/lunch spot run by a delightful husband/wife team. Simple food, which is exactly what I want for breakfast. Relaxing/peaceful environment. Sunny/bright interior. They have a $ 4.99 breakfast special which I ordered — — scrambled eggs, toast, hash browns, and this really awesome ham off the bone. It was great. The coffee was also really good. Couple notes: They use Boar’s Head meat for their lunch sandwiches and they make a few homemade soups every day. The service was also really friendly and welcoming. Very kid friendly environment. I thought this place was really inexpensive when compared to other similar restaurants.

One of my favorite morning spots to hit up. A husband and wife team are always around and they know how to make the customers feel at home. If you like to hide out, the back has a TV usually on the news or a financial network. George will often come out to check it and chat. His wife Mimi is very friendly, always inquiring about the family and life. Food is always served fresh and hot. They also have a deli counter of meats for sandwiches. Great place!

I go here a couple times a week with my 2-year old daughter. Very kid-friendly. Food is great and the service is terrific. George and Mimi are the owners and are the best!

Shocked that there was not a Unilocal page for Prairie Café. Inexpensive, good fresh food, great owners. Good breakfast and lunch selections, and quick service.
