I’ll start with the good: the portion size is a good value for the money: a snack for two or a modest meal for one. Unfortunately, the murghi(chicken curry) is bland and unremarkable. At some point in the last couple of years, they started including pineapple, which just seems(and tastes) wrong to me. I swear the food used to be better, but now even my daughter, the un-fussiest kid in the world, won’t eat it anymore.

Ok, as much as I LOVE Eugene Saturday Market, I have to give a ONE star for this. When you put«India» as a part of your business,. you should serve Indian food. not a mix and match experiment-asian cooking. So I got their combination plate and it came with a noodle dish they named«Yakisoba!». that’s a japanese chow mein. I’ve had it before and this 1. it’s nothing like the one they serve at India House and 2. «India House» serving yakisoba… that just doesn’t sound right .lol. The Sambar and the chicken curry are lightly seasoned. but the yakisoba is way too salty. My plate looked like globs of food over a veyr mushy brown rice. They are edible. but… definitely not the«Indian» food I expected to come out of a place called«India House.»

It probably doesn’t help that I already love Indian food as it is, but whenever this cart came rolling in for the ASUO Street Fair I knew it was to be one of my must haves. Thankfully I can always get my fix at the Eugene Saturday Market, where this cart is sure to be week in and out. I love Indian curry and given the very limited choices in Eugene, I can at least rejoice in the fact they do have a solid chicken curry with basmati rice. It’s abundant with a lot of grainy curry flavor, fairly cheap at $ 6 a plate($ 8 for a combination), and is fresh practically every time. However, compared to all of the Indian food I’ve ever tried, it only ranks somewhere in the middle. For Eugene standards and for the quick bite, it is definitely doable but ranks far below the best I’ve had. Plus, that’s about all I really enjoy from the cart. The thripthi is kind of like a wrap, which comes in either a chicken or vegetable combination is not all that impressive and neither is their pan fried noodles. It’s a weird lineup of food, but few people are complaining. I hope the next time I’m around, they’ll have more Indian specialties to offer. Right now for the limited choices they have, its not ideal to give them anymore than 3 stars, which is thanks in large part to the tasty helping(s) of their Chicken Curry.
