I’ve eaten at both locations — at the food cart in Eugene, where I ordered a Hipster, and in Springfield where I ordered a Caterpillar. The food is good but I was surprised by the prices on the protein choices. I first ate a Sushirrito(trademark name for five restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area, same concept) in Palo Alto. It was filled with two large tempura prawns(very fresh) and other high quality goodies, comparable size, and cost less than prices I see at Unami and Subo. Since rent is far cheaper in our area, I am puzzled by why the prices are so high, especially for the seafood choices.

I tried the panda. I was initially very skeptical of the concept since I feel like sushi should just be sushi. However, the roasted garlic aioli was a really nice touch. The crunchiness of the tempura gave the roll nice texture. The service is awesome although it was a bit slow.

I have to start with saying that I can’t believe how much food they give you. The person that took our order was very nice and personable. They shared their ideas and opinions when we asked questions and the food definitely surprised us when we dug in. I will definitely be returning.

I was positive I’d never come back to this place. But after reading my review, the owner persuaded me to give his establishment a second chance — explaining that I caught his business on a bad day and there were some equipment issues. Honestly, it means a lot that the owner is willing to right a wrong. Just the fact that he reached out was enough reason for me to give it another go. I came back again(without revealing my identity, of course) and the staff greeted me enthusiastically. The customer service had never been a problem, it was the wait that struck a chord with me last time. This time, my food was delivered almost instantaneously. And I understand, wait times are based on customer volume. Last time was merely miscommunication on the cashier’s behalf. I tried the #Bacon and Medusa rolls this time. The seaweed was still sloppy in the way it was wrapped. But it didn’t matter at that point because I inhaled both of them. #Bacon’s got a spicy kick to it… but who knew bacon could taste so good in a sushi burrito? The Medusa roll is my new favorite. It’s got a perfect amount of crunchiness, thanks to the asparagus. And the flavors of all the ingredients meshed really well. It was literally an explosion of foodgasm in my mouth. What this business does successfully is they’re risky and innovative. They play around and surprise you with ingredients on their menu items that aren’t typically found in a standard sushi burrito. BUT… it works. This is how they’re going to stand out from the rest of the Japanese restaurants. Glad I came back or else I would’ve missed on a hidden gem in Springfield. Thanks for reaching out, Toby. You’ve won me over.

Came from Portland for a roller derby tournament and everyone could not stop talking about this place. Some were getting 2 burritos a day. I have to say after trying the veggie burrito, I understand why it is all the rage. Tried to come back Sunday but they were closed. Wish there was one in Portland, I’d be a frequent customer!

If you are one of those people who love the multiple ingredient«specialty» rolls at sushi joints and always wished they were somehow larger with more saucy goop, you will love Subo. You are precisely the sort of undifferentiated gimmick prone idiot who makes these terrible things possible. Subo’s garbage rolls are poorly constructed. The seaweed quickly becomes rubbery due to the moisture released by warm ingredients, splits after a couple of bites, and/or sends ingredients spewing out the ends. The ingredients themselves depend more on texture for their constituency than flavor, with the flavor component provided by a variety of sauces which only serve to make the structural integrity more tenuous and unstable should you choose to use it.(Nota Bene: The sauce was already being served on the side by the time I ate my second garbage roll.) The final straw which has broken the back on this rich man’s little gaijin donkey involved finding a piece of foil inside the roll. The owner, Toby, whose response you may read below, would like to suggest this is due to the foil wrapping itself. No, the foil was well inside the roll and could not have occurred by any method other than oversight or incompetence. Quit defending mistakes with ameliorative tripe, Toby. You can roll with the punches and move on, or perhaps try to have more functional, traditional food. Instead, you want to tell me I should try your food again? Lucky for you, there are plenty of stupid, pretentious, entitled Eutards who will eat your food and claim it wonderful. They will never question the lack of aesthetic balance, nor give voice to it with any eloquence. I regret having ever given your business any custom. Like so many things in the Eugene-Springfield area, your business serves the ignorant, and I am not among them. Overall, an inexcusably incompetent ripoff given how many perfectly decent, functional sushi-ya can be found in this end of the Willamette valley. Out of some strange last tiny shred of inexplicable optimism, I gave Subo three chances. I will be delighted to never eat here again.

Sushi burrito tasted great, but definitely not worth the price. $ 13 for a full sized burrito that wasn’t much bigger than two hand rolls you’d get from a regular sit down restaurant. Probably won’t return, I’ll just stick to the regular cut rolls for much less.

I’ve heard about Subo and was so excited to try it! Fresh fish around Eugene is not easy to come by. This place is unreal. Some of the freshest fish I’ve had in Eugene and just so delicious. They are so kind there and even let us customize our order a bit. These sushi burritos are definitely made from love. Thank you!

As good as the food might look or taste, definitely not worth the repercussions later on. Common sense would say eating sushi out of a petite warm trailer is not the smartest move as far as health is concerned. And it wasn’t. Eventually I was vomiting profusely, completely unable to hold down the slightest bit of liquid. This went on for about 10 hours straight. A fluke, perhaps… but I’m told there’s a much better one in Springfield. An actual restaurant with, at the least, a better state of food safety consciousness. There is always better, but this one a no-brainer.

I have heard many wonderful things about this place and am still very excited about the idea of a sushi burrito. I absolutely love fish and this was a place I was not going to pass up for long. Upon arriving I, along with my friend Tom, ordered two burritos to share; the Samurai and the Ginger Sake. Chowing down for the first time on these delicious beast rolls was the most pleasurable part. Unfortunately after a few hours the reality of it all set in. I was beginning to feel queasy and sick. All last night and all day today I have not been able to keep anything down, even water. I may try this place again, however how I currently feel is achey, clammy and dehydrated. I really liked the taste but I’m not sure if it’s worth the price for me.

OHMANOKAY. Dude, why is your food so tasty, because my wallet can’t handle it? Basically, their food is wonderful. I can’t even describe the weird combinations you’ll see on the menu. It’s like«wait…I like all those things… what are they like together… I HAVENOIDEABUT I’M GONNAEATIT!» I just got their special. I ain’t picky. I liked it. The sushi burrito thing is just basically a fat, un-sliced roll of sushi. They have full sized ones and half sized ones. If you’re a small human, the half size might suffice. Otherwise, expect to pay around $ 12 – 15 for your full size. Kinda pricey for me, but it is pretty fancy stuff. Eating it was enjoyable. You have your choice of fairly standard seaweed or some other thing(tofu something? soy? can’t remember). I like seaweed. It worked out pretty well for me. Towards the end it gets really messy, but otherwise it’s like eating a burrito. It’s a food cart and they have a little covered wooden porch. Wasabi and ginger and a few sauces provided. Not really anywhere to sit unless you sit in front of the food cart next to it… and I wasn’t really sure if that was cool or if I should have bought something there too? Definitely worth a try, just be careful… you’ll want more!

It was awesome to try one of their sushi burritos. They were good and very unique. I would come back. ½ a burrito is a meal so don’t let the prices fool you, you’re getting a good deal for the amount and flavor of food.

WOW. Wow. Okay, had to calm down. This was a transcendent sushi experience. Ate it once and have been craving it ever since. I can’t wait to visit this food cart again! As with most of the amazing places we’ve stumbled upon, we were looking for something else entirely, a certain sandwich place that isn’t super about updating their location and hours? HMM? Their loss was definitely my gain. Hungry and at the end of my lunch break, I saw a sign for sushi burritos. I thought whaaaaaat? I’m a fan of sushi, but sushi burritos just sounds weird at best. I expected sushi ingredients wrapped in a tortilla, or some Mexican/Japanese fusion food. The other food carts in the area didn’t take cards(seriously– it’s 2016, what’s up with that?!) so I gave it a try. I was dazzled by the menu options and went with something«safe» for starters, a Philly roll. I ordered, asked them to hold the onion and put the wasabi sauce on the side, paid, and waited. My roll was done in about 5 minutes, not half bad. I ordered a half roll at $ 8.50, which seems spendy, but by the end of it I was stuffed! For that much sushi, $ 8.50 is a deal. My Philly roll had cream cheese, salmon, avocado, king salmon, pacific white shrimp, tempura flakes, and cucumber. I gave the wasabi sauce a try. WOW! Every bite was a huge WOW moment. There was not a moment I was tired of the flavors. The crunch of the tempura flakes, and freshness of the cucumber gave a great balance to the creamy richness of the salmon, avocado, and cream cheese. The nori wrap and rice were perfect, not too sticky or weird at all. It was like eating a big roll. The ingredients were quality. I really liked the addition of the«mountain vegetable.» Someday I will learn its proper name. It wasn’t on the list of ingredients but wow! So much WOW! I can’t wait to go back. I’ve told all my friends about this, even my daughter is excited to give it a try!

Always wanted a sushi burrito, and this place is the place to be. But I just wish they can make it bigger. Not width size because it’s perfect already but length because I seem to need to order 2 for myself and after eating that I still feel like I can go for another. Paying $ 20+ dollar. I feel like I should be in a food coma. Overall everyone should try it.

Go here! It’s so good and your belly will love you for it. Excellent addition to the Whit food truck seen. Personal favorite so far is the Black Widow. Little tip, get a side of the sweet wasabi sauce. I could drink that shit

Love this place! Great fine dining quality food from a cart. I had the Bacon Sushi Burrito which was unbelievable(tempura bacon and maple Sriracha, need I say more), but I can’t wait to try all the rest! Glad you guys joined the Whit!
