Underground Lounge is a cool and casual place to grab a tasty drink or dinner. Half underground, the place has a comfortable Thai vibe — light subdued with paper oriental umbrellas covering the light fixtures overhead, a couple of televisions to watch the game and some good music streaming in. Service was friendly from our bartender Sam. You’d expect exotic cocktails from a bar under Makala’s, and you get them: Lotus Blossom– Malibu, peach schnapps, mango nectar and cream Jungle Love– Sauza infused with papaya, pineapple and oranges shaken with passion fruit-guava margarita mix Hypnotiq Martini– passion fruit liquor with Absolut Mandarin and pineapple juice Food is straight off the Mekala’s menu and delicious. I tried the hot & sour soup(a gloppy bowl of sour at most places) hoping it’d be authentic here. Flavors were bursting in my mouth! Tons of sweet snap of bamboo shoots. Hubby ordered a dinner salad and it came out huge with tons of bright, fresh vegetables and a side of citrus coconut dressing. We also ordered Phad See Yew — a little sweet, a little spicy and yummy. Appetizers & soups are priced appropriately but the entrees are the most expensive in town. They run $ 16 – 20, with most of them on the higher end. Portions are large and the food is good.
