Disappointed — business sold out to another burger joint. I was told by a store nearby the owner didn’t want to sell but received an offer he couldn’t refuse. Can’t remember what the name of the new burger place — but it won’t be Mooyhay :(

Currently going thru remodel … But this is usually where the husband and I will go for lunch breaks out together cause its one of the few places we can get in and out relatively quick that both of us like that isn’t regular fast food. The staff is friendly and its usually not crowded. Though most of the time our breaks are later in the afternoon so … I hope they open again soon!

I was super excited to try Mooyah, but unfortunately I found their food and service pretty lacking. I strolled in on a Sunday after church, and was surprised that there weren’t many people. Still, the place looked clean and fully-staffed. I decided on the turkey burger with swiss, mushrooms, grilled onions, and jalapenos. As I ordered, the gal behind the counter asked if I wanted my burger on white, wheat or ice. When I inquired, «Excuse me, did you say ice?» She sighed, actually rolled her eyes and said, «I did. It’s short for iceberg, of course! Do you want your burger on lettuce, or not?» I was kind of stunned, mumbled my order, and then walked over to the drink station. I poured a soda and it was terrible – not just like the mix was off, but rather that the machine had been cleaned with chemicals and hadn’t been rinsed out. I thought it might just be one of their fountains, but the other was tainted, too. Alas, I settled on an iced tea and had a seat. I was located next two a very cute family with two rambunctious, although respectful, children. When they finished up, they were in a flurry wrangling crayons, backpacks, and kiddos, and accidentally left behind a cup and two children’s menus on the table. Clearly this is a bus-your-own-table kind of joint, and when the worker tidying up the floor came over, she was NOT pleased. She sighed super loud and said, «Are you serious!!!» as she cleaned up the items. I understand frustration, but I believe it was a bit uncalled for. And that was all before the food arrived… My burger was hot, although shoddily constructed. Half of the cheese was stuck to the wrapping, while the other half of the sandwich was bare. The turkey burger had a good flavor, but the mushrooms were definitely from a can. They were spongy and, well… icky. The fries were soggy and not well-seasoned. So, that was my lunch at Mooyah. I would recommend Peace Burger, Whataburger, or Five Guys instead if you’re in the area.

UGH… I’m just so tired of big expectations of locations like this that let me build my own burger, and being immediately let down… It seems like a simple thing to most, but if your concept is to let me custom build a burger with my choice of toppings, THENPUTWHAT I ORDEREDONTHEBURGER! I paid an extra $.80 each for bacon and avocado. The avocado made it on, but the bacon… not so much. Since I took it to go, it wasn’t until I arrived at work and unwrapped the burger that I noticed the absence of bacon. I mean, bacon, people! Bacon is sooo good that pigs are known to cannibalize one another in death– further proving that even pigs know how good they taste… The saltiness of bacon with the avocado was going to be so perfect and it wasn’t there, sad day. Other reason why this agitates me… I paid $ 0.80 for some strips of bacon. I work long, hard hours for my money, and to just give it away like that just sucks. The homeless folks in downtown Fort Worth always ask for $.80 because they know you are more likely to give a dollar since no one ever just has change on them. Its kind of like that for me, like I just gave away a dollar for nothing. On top of that, it just wasn’t the burger that i ordered, so double let down. The patties, I will give them, were juicy, but the bread had no flavor at all. The one redeeming factor was that the have some really great fries. Something about a 24 hour long process and the oil they use, blah, blah, blah… the fries are just really good. I’ll never get my dollar back, but mostly because I’ll likely never be back…

Bummer, I guess new guy hasnt figured out how to organize his staff yet. When I arrived, I was told just be a minute cause it was pretty busy right then. Duh, 3 people in the store and one order on the grill isnt busy, Or maybe the Manager wasnt in, dont know, dont care, shoulda been with an operation like that. After waiting abt 5 minutes and being completely ignored, I left and went next door to Freddys, there they welcome the business an have better fries anyway!

Today’s Burger Hunt found me walking across the parking lot again for lunch to another established burger joint here in DFW called Mooyah Burgers and Fries. The last hunt across the parking lot was to Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburger, which proved to be a good adventure and my hopes were high for this one as well. Custom built burgers is the schtick at Mooyah along with the«everything» is fresh approach(from the meat and veg to the buns) as well as hand cut Idaho potatoes for fries. The standard burger comes with 2 ¼ llb. patties and you have your choice of either bacon or cheese, as the only add on price options, with the rest of your choices listed as «free» toppings. Turkey, veggie and iceburgers(lettuce wraps) are also available. I kind of expect that their listed ingredients should be free no matter what burger joint your at, and I’m not sure they are at all places, but needless to say you can have your Mooyah any way you like it. Today I just got a burger. $ 5.58 for a Mooyah with cheese. The burgers are made to order, fresh patties go down on a flat top and they are seasoned right on the grill. If you go with Mooyah style it is lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions and special sauce… Or 1000 Island like everyone else. I had mayo, lettuce and cheddar on my Mooyah. Cheddar cheese made this burger. It was very sharp and sweet tasting that melted beautifully on the patties which were cooked medium. I like seasoned patties but it may have been a little too much in this case. It didn’t make it terrible but it was slightly salty to taste. Whether or not salt was actually in the seasoning(pretty sure there was) that’s what it tasted like to me. That seasoning with something other than cheddar may have been better but the two together left a bit of an after taste. The bun was toasty and hot with sesame seeds, and also looked to be freshly made. Not much to say other than that, I’d give it 3 out of 5 patties with no special Burger Hunt designation either. If I was to go again I’d try a different combo of toppings, but since I live in a large market for burger joints, with several other top choices in the area, I can’t say that I wouldn’t pick another place to go. I really hate to say that, as I don’t want anyone to think that this burger is a stinker, I’ve just had better that’s all. As a side note, the atmosphere was pleasant, restaurant was clean and the staff was super nice. That certainly added to a better experience. Try it for yourself of course, and you just might say, «Mooyah.»

As a vegetarian I wasn’t really sure if I wanted to eat at a place named Mooya, but we wanted to see how their veggie burger was. They have a black bean patty that is tasty, I like places that make their own patties instead of buying morning star, so that was a plus. Every single employee greeted us and the manager asked us if it was our first time there and when we said yes he handed us a big cup of fries. The fries were amazing, there are fresh cut potatoes with the skin still in them, I really liked them. The manager was super nice and friendly and started telling us all about their burgers, the quality of the ingredients etc. Then he stared giving us tips on how to order so we can save a couple of dollars which was great because on places like that they usually try to make you order things you don’t want. Anyway, we got our food fairly quickly and the taste was good, not great, but what made our experience much better was the service. We have been back twice in the last 2 weeks and every time we go the service is fantastic.

While food in general has taken quite a turn for the worse in the last 20 years as the room for profit has been squeezed further and further, I find that the fast food industry has taken the biggest hit(as the margins are most vulnerable here). These days there are no grills in a McDonalds or a Burger King, and nothing is really cooked; it’s simply brought to temperature and assembled from bins and packages. Places like Mooyah Burgers and Fries are an attempt to break away from these practices. I must regard their attempt as honorable, though it simply falls short. When not using a great amount of preservatives and pre-made constructs it’s imperative to use top quality ingredients. It seems that Mooyah has gone middle on the road with their selections and suppliers, which makes the final product just a touch better than palatable. Their layout is nice, you can choose exactly what goes on your burger, and that’s a huge improvement over their competitors; though the quality of their ingredients just doesn’t match their prices. The fries are acceptable, but they’re just run of the mill at best. Mooyah Burgers and Fries seems like a replica of Fat Burger, which is only really accessible in California, Arizona, and Florida. Though the option of adding an egg to your burger makes Fat Burger immediately more appealing. I simply don’t understand that hype surrounding this place. What-a-burger will make your burger to your specifications, and has most of the ingredients that Mooyah does all for around the same price. Also the burgers tend to become soggy very quickly, so take-out is not really a good options. The fries also seem to take a flavor beating when in transit. So in closing, this place is perfectly ordinary, and will most likely have to reverse their over aggressive expansion as In-and-Out and other stronger restaurants make it’s way to Texas.

OOH yeah! Gotta love Mooyah Burgers and Fries. I’m not going to say it’s the BEST burger I’ve ever had, but it IS one that is on my top ranking list. You have a lot of choice and the fries are REAL! It’s a great, relaxed environment and the people there are awesome too!

People kept telling me that I had to try this. It was the best burger ever. It tasted so good. They lied to me. I hate that, because I was all geared up to try something amazing. And it’s not that it was bad, it just wasn’t outstanding. I’ve experienced better. Much better. The burger was juicy, the fries were hot, the shake was thick. But it’s the same way at Braums. It’s the same way at Sonic. It’s the same way at Chili’s. You get my drift. The concept is cute, I love the diner/modern feel of the inside, and they were jamming when I went in, but $ 13 for a burger and fries. Regular burger and fries. No sir. I. will. not. I’m mad too because this was my cheat day meal… dangit!

Solid 3.5…yelp, why can’t we do half stars? I was all confused at first on how to order like when you go to a catholic church service and they’re standing up, sitting down and you have no idea what’s going on. There were people at the counter ordering and then people writing on cards in the entryway and I go to the counter and they said to get a card and I didn’t see them because everyone was crowding and covering them up — -argh…finally got one… filled it out… and turned it in. The fries I really liked, especially once I got a hold of their fry seasoning. The burger was solid, meat was pretty flavorful but I didn’t like it mooyah way, or whatever they called it with their«special» sauce and grilled onions… I like raw onions and just mayo or ketchup. Next time I’ll do it MY way.

Mooyah… where have you gone wrong. The last time I stopped in to pick up my burger, you gave me stale, borderline cold french fries and messed up my order on the burger. And Mr. Manager guy, when a dead tired high school teacher who’s been assaulted with questions all day and worked for twelve hours straight finds out her order is messed up… trying to strike up a conversation is the wrong way to go. Geez. If you’re charging 11 bucks for a double cheeseburger and fries you ought not f’ck it up. The time before that, somebody went crazy with the salt on the meat. Mooyah. mooyah… I must demote you. edited list o burgers in order of goodness… 1. Rendon’s General Store. Rendon, TX Hands down the best so far. I love the Hickory Burger. this place just opened not too long ago. there’s a location closer to my house, but my hubby and i were in the area and had to give it a try. it was about 30 minutes till close and there were only two other people in the restaurant having a late dinner. we both ordered the mooyah burger with a medium order of fries. i attempted to order the large fries(feeds 3 – 4 people), but i got fair warning from the girl taking our order that a medium should be a good size for us. i guess she didn’t know i LOVE me some fries. i ordered cheddar, lettuce, pickles, grilled onions, and the mooyah sauce on mine. the mooyah sauce is like a thousand island dressing. and of course my hubby orders his plain and dry. we both agreed that this was one of the cheesiest burgers we’ve had. i had a bit of trouble with all of my fixin’s falling off my burger. the fries were delicious… they were fresh, hot, and crispy. man, i love fries. the manager(i think he was the manager) stopped by our table and asked us how the food was, if we were newbies and would we consider eating there again. we both agreed, we’d definitely come back, but to the location closer to our home. i’ve had a better burger, but the fries are great.
