Dinner plates themselves were super hot, food had sat a bit before being served. Lamb and eggplant and potatoes were salty — eggplant too salty to eat. Lamb dry and well done instead of medium. Expect much better for the price.

This is awesome food. Try the pork osso bucco. It is amazing. Service is awesome and the prices are great. Everything is homemade including desserts. Never disappointed whether for lunch or dinner.

Our office orders from this place like 2x/week. They make probably the best food in Flemington. I have to say though, their chicken dishes used to be awesome; lately they have been dry and unpalatable. That’s the only decrease in 1 star… otherwise i“m a fan. I also wish that they put their eggplant parm on their regular menu — it’s their best dish!

I selected 55-Main for a surprise party of 15 for my wife as we had been there many times before. Not exactly sure how they did it, but they served 15 perfect starters and 15 perfect & excellent meals all at the same time. I worked with Jonah in advance and he was flexible and attentive. All family member were raving about the food, service and atmosphere. Well recommended for a party and make sure to try the braised ribs.

My friend wrote about our experience here with the fish tacos. I’ll add that we politely complained about the food and sent most of the meal, uneaten, back to the kitchen. No comment or apology from the staff. Sometimes it’s an off day and apologies go a long way to repair a bad kitchen day. I too will never go back to 55 Main for that reason.

Well I am a foodie so believe me when I write that this place is one of the best in hunterdon county. My wife and ate dinner there today and it was an experience both food and service. The products are fresh and seasoning right. Jonas the Chef knows the game of giving his customer professional and home cook flavor at the same time. It’s like eating in a high end restaurant and when you eat some flavors reminds of home made flavors. The beef tenderloin was amazing and lamb chops one of the best. We are a regular customer now.

Not a bad place. I’ve been there twice and the food is pretty good and the service is ok. Small place and a little cramped but not bad for a nice lunch.

One of my favorite places. The menu has some great and interesting choices with local ingredients. Food is consistently good. Prices are very reasonable and it is BYOB. They lose a star because the service is not really friendly or attentive, and sometimes I feel like the courses are a little unnecessarily rushed.

This place is overpriced for quality of the meal. Duck was undercooked, scallops were overcooked. Menu hasn’t changed in years and is always the same, no matter what the season. Only positive was that the portion sizes are large, so entire party went home with leftovers. Better restaurant options within 20 min radius.

Went for lunch after reading the reviews and could not have been more disappointed. The salad was bland at best as was the chicken wrap. Not even worth a second visit. Bland, bland, bland! Extremely disappointed!!!

Checking out the other reviews, I was a bit concerned about trying 55 Main. Many of them were very non specific and raved about the owner. We had an amazing meal here on Friday night. We were seated promptly for our 6:30pm reservations. Within the next 45 minutes, the entire restaurant was packed. Yay! It’s a byob… great for us. My friend and I split the salad special of mixed greens, fig, blue cheese and balsamic dressing. Next, I was amazed by the ahi tuna, perfectly seared and plated over rice with a potent Wasabi sauce. Perhaps, the Wasabi was a bit too strong, as it did overpower the yummy tuna just a tad. My friend ordered the red snapper special over risotto. It was also great and completely different from mine. Very generous portion sizes. We were so full that we skipped dessert. Decaf coffees were excellent. Can’t wait to return! Yum.

I have been twice at this restaurant, last night was my second time. Food is delicious, small and easy menu choices. Made reservations for Saturday night, great service, great food. We have had the scallops dish, the monk fish special, my husband had the steak and friends had the short ribs. For desert we had the peanut butter mousse and pumpkin cheese cake, all delicious. I will keep coming back and hope no to be disappointed in the future.

This place is a hidden treasure in Flemington. We have dined here many times and are never disappointed. The food is always great and they will happily handle any special request. Good value for your money and being a byob you cant go wrong.

We had a delicious dinner last night at 55 Main. The menu choices are fantastic and everything was cooked to perfection. My only negative was that the staff was a bit removed and unavailable. It seemed to take a long time between courses. On the other hand, we did not feel rushed. I just think a periodic check in with customers is always good. Kudos to a great dining experience on the whole!

Wow. I would say that last night’s dinner at 55 Main is one of the best I ever had. Our server was courteous, knowledgeable and professional. Our meals were delicious, hot and delivered timely. I watched the staff and was impressed how everyone moved around like a well oiled machine. This was the first time I had ever come and you can bet I will be back soon. 55 Main should be the model of how every restaurant should be run. Bravo!

I’ve been to 55 a few times and felt safe recommending it to others. Great menu, friendly service. Then there was tonight; a semi busy night, we had reservations. We finally made it to our table. After 25 minutes we were still sitting, ignored. Waiting for our water, bread, wine glasses, a hello, anything. Finally were served water and told our waiter would be right with us. After about 15 minutes of being ignored, and being irritated by one waitress who constantly thudded back and forth past us … we finally stood and left. We never received even a glance. A first for us.. we won’t go back.

Rude rude rude rude rude, beyond disappointing experience. For a pricy restaurant, the service should be on point, and should not ignore their guests entirely. We came in for my mom’s birthday with a reservation. She was really excited, and had been recommending the place to all her friends. We waited a while to even speak to someone to get seated(2 people behind the counter ignored us until we were practically leaning on it). We got seated, and had a bottle of champagne and a bottle of wine with us(no one ever asked if we needed these on ice, or asked if we needed glasses). There was a lot of rushing around(kitchen staff and waiters), but not much was going on, and the restaurant wasn’t full. We looked at the menus, closed them, and waited. About 25 minutes later, one of the hostesses/waitresses was making rounds and asked us if we wanted a refill on water… we hadn’t even received our first glass. She apologized and asked if we wanted bread. We said yes. She asked if we were ready to order, and we said yes. She said okay, and left our table saying our waiter would be with us shortly. 10 minutes later, still no bread or waitress. Still a ton of mindless rushing around by the staff. My poor mom was sooo disappointed. We took one last look around to see if anyone noticed us, then got up and left. I’ve never just left a restaurant like that. Absolutely appalled. This place does NOT deserve it’s current high rating on Unilocal, and I hope Zagat reconsiders their rating as well. This was my second time here(first time was fair, but not great), and this will certainly be my last. My mom is taking back all her recommendations for the place too.

Food was good but not memorable. Korean bbq sauce tasted either premade from a bottle or a slight modification of premade. Filet skewers were a yummy, juicey rare though which was good. Thai chicken salad was fresh and crunchy but again not that special. On Main Street I preferred Matts Red Rooster for a memorable made-from-scratch meal or head around the corner to the casual Blue Fish Grill where even their buffalo sauce is homemade. In comparison their special Korean bbq burger was totally unique and one of the best things I’ve had for lunch. Décor at 55 main also simple and not cohesive. Decent food and a very friendly server so may go back, but will continue to look around first

Brought clients from out-of-state for dinner and, as usual, everything was PERFECT! Thanks, Jonas and Melinda! How about putting the Caesar 55 on the regular menu!

A group of ten of us needed a last minute place for a lunch on a weekday. Someone called around for us and made a reservation here which worked out well. Service was okay and the food, in general was good, but nothing special. I had the Wasabi Seared Tuna salad which, again, was good but nothing special going on in the dish to make it memorable. The real problem I had was when the bill came. Look, for ten people I somewhat expect a service charge to be added. Heck, not that this is a resort but I have no problem with the 18% tacked on to everything including a single glass of coke on the beach. However, 20% AFTER tax? For lunch in Flemington? Nice way to shove the meal and service down our throats…
