Canaan Bakery is a wonderful Korean bakery that is popular with people of all ages. The old come and eat the jjimbang, which I hear taste really good. So is the anco bang, with the delicious red bean filling. As red bean paste is a staple in this bakery, you must then try the Soboro Pie, inside there is a chewy component with red beans and the chewy texture harmonizes with the sweet red bean, which translates to a happy food experience!!! The almond flat cookies are really buttery and taste great as well! Plus, $ 2.00 for large hot coffee. That is just wonderful isn’t it?

A friend bought the chocolate mousse cake today and it wasn’t only beautiful it was delicious with thin chocolate pieces adorning the top. The cake was fresh and moist. The mouse was perfect-not too sweet not too thick. I definitely plan on visiting this bakery soon!

After having been to the other location on Union Street, I decided to venture off to this location. I know that this place is a little bit more expensive than some of the small bakeries in Flushing, but the quality of the food is very high. They have amazing white breads and are perfect for deli sandwiches. I love sponge cake type cake, which was really delicious, rich in flavor, very moist. They had cute little chocolate chip cookies, which were all amazing, a bit crunchy, a little weird tasting, maybe some ingredient I’m not used to. Service was quick, but a bit brusque.

Hands-down my favorite Korean bakery(for quality of goods, not ambience)! This is what I would describe as «classic» Korean bread at its best. Despite the rise of popular chains from Korea(Paris Baguette, Tous Les Jour, etc), this place has the best best best bbang(bread)! Example: You may come across Korean bread with some kind of topping or filling… when you eat that part, the rest of the bread may leave you disinterested because it doesn’t really taste that good… Not here! My favorite(which they always run out of) is the«soboro pie». It’s a fusion of soboro(aka. gombo, streusel) bbang + red bean + chapsal-dduk(sticky/chewy? rice)…and magic… and crack.maybe. Here is how good it is. A couple of years ago I relocated to a state without much Korean/asian food options. When I came back to NY, I called the bakery to order like 40 of these round bobbles of chewy goodness to take back with me. I received them individually packed and in a box. I froze them, took them with me and proceeded to eat them, savoring each one,…and gave a few as «gifts» to other Koreans I met. Trust me, they are delicious^^ …and this deserves another review/post all its own, but their ICEDCOFFEE… gaaaaahhhhh~~~ If you are a fan of Korean-style iced coffee(regular, not watered down, sweet and creamy) you will love it. Other iced coffees from other korean bakeries are acceptable, but Canaan makes the best. I live in Bayside. If anyone in my house is going to Flushing, I will ask them to swing by Canaan Bakery to pick me up iced coffee(no matter what weather) and check to see if they still have a stash of soboro pies. There. Now you know my secret. =)

My family come to this bakery for birthday cakes for our some special occasions and their cakes are delish, we love them! Since the place is not as big as other bakery chains in flushing, they are an affordable, local bakery that won’t disappoint you. I will probably come back to this place this weekend to pick up some pastries since I am so craving for some good Korean pastries! As for drinks, my dad tried many cups of coffee at this location and he seemed to love their beverages so they should carry good coffee too. Prabably I will try one of their shaved ice deluxe this summer, haven’t had it in a long time lol. ;)

Teeny place. Not a ‘café’ atmosphere either, compared to other korean bakeries in the area — no pretty tables or cool lighting. And although not a huge selection of baked goods, or anything unique or inventive — what they do have, is all classic good. They cover all the staples with a slightly lower price than the larger Koryodangs and Paris Baguettes. Despite my lack-luster paragraph above … brace yourself. The best Bingsoo is here. At this Canaan location only. The plentiful shaved ice, with all the right stuff and not just covered in artificial coloring and funky candy or some other junk. [Like I said, they do ‘classic’ real ‘good’.] The closest to real korean bingsoo with lots of redbeans, ice cold milk, soft ricecake bites … and the smoothest, best-shaven ice. Canaan’s Bingsoo is probably 1 of 3 things I like about the nasty hot summers of NYC. I’m scheduled [yes, time and date penciled in .] to get me some tomorrow!
