St James Gate

Let me begin with this used to be the shrimp restraunt that was a nightmare. But those days are GONE. My husband and I have decided this is our new favorite restraunt at folly beach. The football game was happening it was loud and a ton of tvs but the waitress tried her best to seat us away from the noise. She was amazing never got her name but she went above and beyond for us. This is now an irish pub and an amazing one at that. Guiness on tap made my husband overjoyed. My irish coffee was perfect. Fried pickles delish, french onion soup great needed a little more bread but brooth made up for it. My husband got the shepherd’s pie… he just moaned about how delish it was. He was in heaven. I had the bangers and mash .OMG SO FILLING SO DELISH!!! mashed potatoes on point, gravy so good, and those sausages omfg… the only thing I did not like was there olé fashioned but I can be a snob about that drink. Amazing and a definate place we will return. Loud tvs will not keep us away. Wish they delivered to the Tides hotel… lol

We went for dinner last night. Great beer selection. The Irish stew was delicious, needed brown bread. Nice location on the main drag.

Best Irish fare in CHS. Outdoor fire place a good weekend music. A must stop if on Folly Beach

I’ve always said folly beach needs an Irish bar. And I come down to folly and what do I see. An Irish bar with good food. Great beer selection and great staff. I don’t remember our bartenders name but he was excellent. Will definitely be back

We ended up getting there 20min to the closing of the kitchen (10pm the kitchen closes but the bar stays open) but they still served us. Very polite and attentive. Food was delicious. We both got fish dishes and everything was well cooked and flakey. Excellent selection of booze.

I honestly didn’t think Folly could get any better, but then they added an Irish Pub. Not only did they add an Irish pub they named it after what I consider Mecca (St. James’ Gate where the Guinness Brewery is located in Dublin). I wished I hadn’t eaten as they had a traditional Irish Breakfast down to the black and white sausages which you don’t see often here. The Brunch menu seamed amazing. Didn’t eat, just drank. The Guinness was poured perfectly. If I still lived in Charleston, this would become my watering hole with out a doubt. Staff was SUPER nice. Can’t wait to return! They have live music, a great outdoor area, and an upstairs area that you can rent (I think).

Killer buffalo wings, really good service, and a decent price; especially for being on Folly. We spent a week on Folly with friends and ate all over. This was by far my favorite stop. I could go for an order of those wing right now!!! I will return!

Leaving angry. My sister had a beer. I had a gin and ginger beer. Out total was $ 16. Her beer was $ 5 which means I was charged $ 11 for a shot of gin. Seems crazy. Not happy. Didn’t ask because we were in a hurry to leave. Had to be somewhere else ASAP

What a great little place. Our server Katie was very friendly, and knowledgable about the local spots to visit.
Nacho’s came smothered with ground beef, black beans, melted shredded cheese, guacamole, sour cream, and pico.
Buffalo wings had a great flavor. They were not your typical fried wings soaked in sauce, they were well crafted at the perfect hot temp.
Hot crab dip was good. Served with pita bread and tortilla chips. I loved the Pita points and discarded the tortilla chips, but that was a matter of personal preference.
Peel and eat shrimp was delicious. Large enough to be worth peeling.
To top off my visit, I left a package at my table when I left the restaurant and Katie chased me down the street in the dark and made sure I had my package.
