I went here based on the good reviews and was quite disappointed. Place was dark with no ambiance at all. Felt like eating in a windowless banquet hall. Our server was very nice but took several minutes to get over to our table. I got the hot dog kid’s meal for my 2 year old and a cheeseburger for myself. The server suggested onion rings because they were homemade. That sounded good so I did it. Wait time for the food was normal. My daughter’s meal was fine. My burger sucked. It wasn’t juicy at all due to overcooking, the toppings were minimal and the bun was a large dinner roll, I think. The slice of cheese looked like plastic. The onion rings were homemade, but fell apart when I touched them. Plus, they were cold. The server, who again was very nice, never stopped back at the table after we got our food until we were ready to grab the check and leave. As I drove home, I realized that I’ve had better burgers from a fast food place. That’s not good.

This place is a bit old school on the food. The servers look like they have been there for years. It is old looking on the inside but the food was fairly good. We didn’t need to send anything back and that is always a plus. We only been here once not because of a bad experience but it is out of the way for me.

Pit beef is always fantastic! Everyone is always as nice as can be. It’s a little too expensive for the size of the sandwich, but hey quality over quantity!

Two stars is being a little generous, but I’m feeling nice today. Let me start off with the price of their food. ridiculous and for it to be sub-par, even more ridiculous. My first dining experience and the next few were ok; not bad enough to turn you away and not good enough to run back.

They have awesome pit beef but prices seem a bit high for what you get. The service is friendly but slow and the dining room small and crowded.

Excellent stop for lunch. Corn fritters were amazing and sweet. Pot beef sandwich was fantastic. Pulled pork was good. Both came on a homemade roll that was phenomenal. Mac and cheese was extra cheesy. Only negative– they use Hunt’s ketchup. I always judge that.

PITBEEF is a must if you’ve never had it. The rest of the menu is average to above average. The menu is priced right for this Ma-Pa restaurant and the staff is alway friendly. They put a lot of love into service and food quality which is a testament in their homemade sandwich rolls. Pit beef maybe just a weekend thing but that sandwich is a 5 star creation. Complement that beef with a order of homemade onion rings and a beer. Whew, that’s a treat!

I love pit beef and Wargo’s is one of the best. I started going there when it was a shack in the gravel parking lot of the Moose Lodge back in the early ‘70s. They finally bought the Moose lodge and had a place to eat indoors. And then all through the Basilone’s incarnation. Since Andy and Brenda took it over(in the 80s, I think), it’s only gotten better. If you love pit beef, ham or turkey, you gotta try it. I like my beef sandwich as a combination of medium rare with some burnt ends on their homemade roll with sauce and onions. The rolls are as good as the beef. The rest of their menu is good too… fried oysters, crab cakes, Maryland crab soup(and cream of crab on Fridays). It’s country inn style, nothing fancy. It’s priced right. And the service is friendly. This is my comfort food place. MSO

Very disappointed. The pit beef wasn’t that good at all. Very plain, no seasoning or marinated enough and no smokey taste. Taste more like a roast beef sandwich and not a pit beef sandwich. The $ 5 pit beef we had at the carnival was way better than from this restaurant.

I live in CT, but come down to Bel Air often to stay with my in-laws. Everytime I’m in Maryland, I try to hit up Wargos. I love this place, its a cheap — no thrills kind of place, but have never been disappointed with the food. The décor inside is pretty basic, a bunch of tables and a few booths. But the food really stands out. As you walk in, you always get a whiff of the pit beef cooking — mmmm! I’ve never had anything other than the Pit Beef, Salad Bar or Soup. The Salad bar is always very fresh and delicious, the pit beef sandwiches are great, especially with the BBQ sauce. On our last visit, we tried the Seafood Bisque and it was delicious. I’ve been here about 8 times and always look forward to going back.

First time eating here. It was a Saturday night and they had BBQ(beef, ham — no pork). Ordered 3 sandwiches: 1) beef medium rare 2) beef with ham 3) beef medium. The sandwiches were served — no shit — on a freaking dinner roll. It looked like an appetizer from a wedding. AND it was dry meat. The onion rings were over saturated with oil, therefore wet and soggy after 5 minutes. And the bacons & cheese fries were dry as well. I mean almost crunchy dry like they had been in the fridge for 3 days and then re-heated. Bacon was real, though(that’s the 1 star this review got). hmmmmm… a bad night? maybe. Nice people, but not such a great food experience.
