I am sad that this place has closed down! I was just in there the other day. I have visited many, many times whilst I lived in Fremont and I have never had a bad experience here. My husband and I loved this place so much. It was just a hole in the wall restaurant and my husband and I would come here a lot when we wanted something quick and healthy. I am sad to read this place has closed. If you ever re-open or take your business elsewhere I would still be a long standing customer. Lovely people too. Anyone know where they went? So sad :(

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that May 19, 2019 was their last day. Gyro Express will be closing their doors for good. To those who have never been here, you have truly missed out. I’m sad to see it go, and I wish nothing but the best for the owners and workers. They brought me one of the best lunches I could ever ask for. And if they were to ever return or re-open, I would gladly be a returning customer. Best of luck.

Skip the shawarma and get the gryo. I think they have the title mixed up between the two. I usually asked for the combo, chicken/lamb/beef. The fries are not the best either, a bit dry. The baklava is a bit dry as well. Was gonna give up on the place until I tried the combo meat gyro. My wife loves it as well. The 5 stars is only for the combo meat gyro

Falafel was good, flavorful. Medium priced. Quick service. I’d go again.

I am new to the states. Now I understand that the«authentic taste» is not as authentic as it is back home so I always go to the restaurants with a little less expectation than they are advertised or promoted or recommended. For a person who is from the part of south India which is famous of the best of the food across India and we also have a lot of Arabic and middle eastern and Mediterranean food and what not so I’ve tasted and loved them all. I am a huge huge fan of non-vegetarian food given it tastes like what it is supposed to taste like. Anyways — I walked into this place as I wanted to try this place ever since I moved here, wondered always that why this place is empty. Should’ve guessed it. Anyways I walk in today afternoon, I am the only customer there, order a shawarma meal. Paid 10 $ and was waiting. With in 5 mins it was ready with out the French Fries as it is supposed to be, the kid on the counter says — the fries will be ready in 3 mins, i say it’s fine and take my plate. GODTHATWASTHETINIESTSHAWARMA I SAWINMYLIFE. I thought if it at least tastes good then it’s worth the size. The chicken was half grilled, no spices what so ever, was wrapped in just lettuce and nothing else. Could still taste the raw meat. Anyways after 20 mins of trying to eat I couldn’t so decided to ask for the French fries which were supposed to be ready 17 mins back. The poor kid couldn’t himself believe that they forgot the only customers half order and was about to say«f$&@» but some how stopped himself and apologized and offered to refund the amount of chips. I said ok, took the $ 1.68 back and left. NEVERAGAIN. THE2STARSAREFORTHEKIDSCUSTOMERSERVICEANDAPOLOGIES. Worst shawarma ever.

First time here! Never again. I have had a lot of gyro and shwarmas. This place sucks. Food is terrible. Paid 8 $ for a tiny sandwich. No flavor at all. I don’t recommend this place at all. 2 stars for the service. That’s all.

This place has been my family and I’s favorite gyro restaurant. I’ve had my share of gyros in the past with different restaurants but I can honestly say this tops them all. The meat here is very well cooked with the right spices making it very flavorful and it’s meat is also not as oily as other gyro meats. I love the chicken gyro it gives you that full satisfied feeling and not that gross heavy feeling! They also serve kabobs and Bolani too which is amazing! The owner here is very sweet and will take care of any accommodations you need!!!

I’ve looked for a decent Gyro or shwarma for a long time since I’ve been in northern California, I’m glad I found this place. You see, many places hang the sign for Gyro but I doubt if the owners even know what a real Gyro is! Most of them serve something that’s too dry, tough and lacks the flavor and disappointing. But these guys know cause they’ve been to Turkey and ate the real thing, so they make sure every Gyro they serve hits the spot on! It’s a no frills fast food joint with a handful of tables, but 90% of their business is takeout, so don’t go expecting a nice restaurant on your date night. Foods fresh and flavorful. Gyros, Shwarma, Falafel French fryes, beautiful golden crisp fryes, fresh out of the fryer are to die for. If you’re not a fan of raw onions in your wrap, ask them to hold the onions. You’ll also find a few Afghan favorites on the menu, I might try those on my next visit.

This is a substandard gyro place at best. Of course you can’t have a bad gyro in my opinion with the sauce and spices. But the meat was dry and a bit too seasoned and the tomato and other vegetables were bad quality and also dry. Plenty of other places to try and I wish I wouldn’t have wasted my weekly gyro fix here.

I usually follow a general rule of not eating at any place where«express» is in the name(ie Sushi Express, Panda Express). It just seems like a bad start IMO. But glancing at their menu once, and seeing a lot of Afghan patrons dining in the divey space, I had to give it a go. Chicken shwarma was just ok here. Decent spicing but the texture was a little off and I really couldn’t put my finger on it. Maybe I’m just not used to «halaal» chicken. Also they wrapped it in a flour tortilla, instead of middle eastern flat bread. The accompanying fries, even though frozen, at least was clean tasting. Haven’t tried their falafels yet, cuz I didn’t see a condiment bar where I can add sumac’d onions or pickle chips or chili paste. And after being spoiled by Falafel Etc. just down the way, I simply don’t enjoy falafels without those condiments. But their Chapli is the bomb here. Probably the best I’ve had yet, and there is no shortage of versions out here(yes, better than De Afghanan). The ground meat mix is incredibly flavorful, full of onion and spices that they brown pretty aggressively on their griddle. And when paired with their perfect basmati rice and a green salad, is simply the best meatloaf-ish dish I know. For that dish alone, I will walk through their doors, over and over again. Even if I have to do it in «express» fashion. BTW, the only thing that comes out in «express» time here is their pre-cooked gyros on the spit. Everything else takes over 10 minutes, and that is if they are not busy. Which is why I’ve labeled them on my phone as «Chapli Express», so I can pick it up in a jiffy.

I’m surprise this place doesn’t have a lot of great reviews. The food here is pretty good! I got the beef and lamb gyro with fries and my BF got the chicken kebab rice plate. The gyro came in 2 sizes, the small was pretty big. The pita bread was very soft, piled high with flavorful meat and crisp veggies. I loved it, but I’ll definitely as for more tzatziki yogurt on it next time. My BF said the kebab plate was really good. The chicken was far from dry and it was full of flavors. Good portions for the price! The guy that took our order was so nice and attentive! He gave me a free baklava :)

I’ve been to Gyro Express a couple of times now. Once in 2014, and my most recent time was in 2015. Their food is good and their service is fast, but their portions are quite small and their prices has gone up significantly in the past year. I’ve gotten their gyros which was $ 6.05 for a large in 2014. When I went back in February of 2015, their large gyros was now $ 6.95. That’s a 14.9% increase compared to last year! As for the portion, my large gyro wasn’t that big in comparison to other restaurants. Right across the street at the other plaza is a restaurant called«Gaters» that also makes gyros. Their sizes are bigger, has more meat and their prices are only $ 5.99 as of 2015. I do like the food at Gyro Express, but because of their higher prices & smaller portions, I would rather get a larger gyro for a better price at another restaurant.

My usual spot to get gyros here. I would say this place has the best gyros in fremont. The guy at the counter is really friendly and nice. Ordered the philly steak combo with curly fries here and was surprisingly good! Make sure you add some halal to your meat ;)

These guys are really good in cooking and service. Most places I visited though ethnic, I felt inconvenient with their food. This place is authentic and food is really good. The lady who’s working at cooking end is beautiful and she gave me a good shawarma. It’s tasted very good and I didn’t feel inconvenient as it always happens in other restaurants. The guy who received me is decent and he loves his job. The ambience is fine. It would do good for guys hanging out with friends and want some real good food. I like this spot and I will take my friends next time.

I came on a weekday for lunch around 2PM, and it was pretty empty. Actually besides the 5 people in my group, there wasn’t anyone else in the store. There was one table outside which we took, and I ordered a small beef gyro. The pita bread is really good, soft and chewy! There’s also a lot of meat, and the meat flavor is good. There’s a sufficient amount of sauce, but not too much. I wish there were more vegetables, but it wasn’t too bad. The gyro wasn’t too expensive either at $ 6.49 including tax, although I guess it wasn’t very big. It was a good amount of food for a light lunch or a big snack, but if I were having a lunch/dinner here and was very hungry, it wouldn’t have been enough for me. Good flavors though!

OK food served by colorful ethnic ladies. The chicken gyro was tasty, but a bit dry; not much sauce on it.(And though I got the«large» gyro, it was the same standard size as every gyro I have had in the past at other places. OVERPRICED.) The falafel, pita bread, & hummus(the latter cold & whipped into smooth submission) were also good, if unexceptional. I don’t eat this type of food very often, so if you are a real fan, you might find this place lacking. For me, it was okay for a quick meal, and something different from my usual fare, though, as noted, a little overpriced in terms of the quality and quantity you receive.

Yummy and good size portions. I ordered the chicken gyro platter($ 9.99) which had tons of chicken in it. I would suggest you ask for more tzatziki sauce though — one container was not nearly enough. Also had the falafel sandwich.($ 5.25) Tasty and filling. Called it in as a phone order and it was ready within ten minutes. Prices have gone up since the picture on Unilocal was taken.

I moved to Fremont about five months ago and I’ve been meaning to try this place. The reason it’s taken so long is because, well, I’ve been getting my gyros at Gater’s Kabob Hot. Also, Fremont is filled with a ton of Mediterranean joints so I’ve had a ton of other choices. Gyro Express is a mom and pop shop located in the strip mall on Fremont and Walnut, across the street from Target. I had this past Monday off for Veteran’s Day and thought I should try a new place in my current hometown. When I first stepped into Gyro Express, I was instantly drawn to what they had showing on their TV. It was pretty much a Middle Eastern version of Jerry Springer. There was a lady on TV talking about her crazy drug addiction and how she pimped her 13 year old daughter. Not kidding, I thought it was great entertainment because it was just ridiculous that a restaurant actually had the guts to be showing this. Major props for being ballsy. They have a large menu, and when I say«large» I mean the actual signage is really big, however, they don’t have that many items. That’s something I appreciate at restaurants — keep your menu small and stick to what you’re good at. Let’s be honest, how many times have you been to a restaurant that tried to get too«cute» with their menu? It happens all the time. I placed my order with who I think was the owner. He was a REALLY cool guy. I asked him what his most popular item was and he recommended the lamb gyros. So I went ahead and ordered a lamb gyro wrap with a side of fries. LARGELAMBGYROWRAP w/a SIDEOFFRIES + a FOUNTAINDRINK ~ 4 stars ~ $ 8.00: The wrap came with a generous serving of delicious thinly carved gyros that packed a ton of flavor. My favorite part was how well they seared the outside — great texture! They topped it off with some lettuce, sliced onions, tomatoes and tzatziki. Of course I put some hot chili sauce on it because I always need some kick in my food. All the flavors came together beautifully. Even though it wasn’t the best gyro wrap I ever had, I have to say it was really good. One surprise was how crispy their fries were. I thought no way this place would crank out decent fries, but man, I was wrong. Overall, the meal was a hit and I would absolutely go back. If you’re in the mood for some gyros and you want to dine at a low key joint, Gyro Express is the place for you. The staff is awesome and the food is delicious.
