So sad that they closed. I used to get lunch from them everyday. The owners were so nice and cute. I remember the lady giving me free candies and ice cream and a soda for being a regular here. There sushi and bento boxes were delicious and restaurant really felt like home. I wonder where they both went. Wish I said good bye.

Recently went with my family, and I can honestly say it was once a great restaurant. The sushi bar was closed off and the décor was outdated(tables, chairs, rugs, etc.) You can tell that the owners are not as enthusiastic as they once were as the restaurant seemed to so depressing. The food was not great, almost like it was microwaved prior to serving it to us. It is possibly the worst Japanese restauarant I’ve been to and will not come back again.

There are lots of people that would give an extra few stars just because a restaurant is owned by Japanese people, and Kabuki I believe falls into said category. It’s quite possibly the worst Japanese restaurant I’ve ever visited in terms of food, but the service was outstanding, and hence the two stars.

I’ve been coming to Kabuki for least 10 years now and the quality of the food had been consistently good in that 10 year span. Kabuki is a little mom and pop Japanese restaurant with the husband cooking and the wife waiting tables. My girlfriend and I always get the tempura rolls, California rolls(for her) and tonkatsu Don buri and it is all nothing short of delicious. We hope this restaurant gains more business because it truly does seem like a hidden gem in Fremont. If you ever have a craving for Japanese food this is the place to go.

Small mom and pop establishment. I love the combo meals, bento boxes. Under $ 10 after tax! and I like it since its only a 2 minute drive for me! location is key! oh, and the food is pretty tasty.

I had went here a few times when I was young, and I recently came back with the same image in mind; a small Japanese restaurant that served good tasting food. When I entered, my friends and I were the only ones in the restaurant, which on a Friday night during dinner time, should not be happening. Despite the first warning, we proceed to sit down where we are given those red plastic cups full of water. Yes, the same ones that are used at parties. Besides that, the food was just okay. I had the tempura soba, which was kinda too salty, while the tempura was not. I think I had my nostalgia glasses on, because I expected a lot more from what I got. I don’t know if I would recommend this place, since it seems kind of run down and forgotten, but if you really have a craving for Japanese food, this should be a last resort.

Order sushi and find out why I give this place two stars. Winner of the worst sushi spot I’ve ever been to.

My boyfriend and I have been coming here at least once a month for almost 5 years or so. I use to come here with friends twice a week for a while during my broke college student days. I guess we were just so amazed how cheap and good everything was. When I go to Kabuki, I strictly get the $ 6 Kabuki special. Its a bento box that has teriyaki chicken, tempura, California roll, rice, salad, fruit plus ice cream at the end! Their bento box is well way worth the price. Everything delish. If the bento was more than six dollars I still would pay whatever the price. The mom of this mom and pop restaurant is the only server. She is sweet and has minimal English which makes her really adorable. Support our local business. :)

This is truly a hidden gem in Fremont. It’s tucked in one tiny corner of a strip mall with a pretty inconspicuous entrance. But inside the place is quite big. It’s manned by one solitary lady who speaks with the sweetest Japanese accent. She will remind you of your mom. Unfortunately it’s just her and she does get overwhelmed when there are more than like 4 people in the diner. The menu is big and very decently priced. The combination is 8 bucks and you get to pick from a pretty good selection. The sushi is good too pretty cheap. Most rolls are about 3 bucks for 4 pieces. Which is not bad. The quality if great. Fresh fish. Definitely coming back here. Only dock is that service can get slow cause it’s only the lady. I think they have one cool.

I was really excited to find this place. This place makes teriyaki chicken and tempura like my mom would make. It’s exactly the same. They even have things like nabe and sukiyaki that I want to try when the weather turns cold. I’m not eating any sushi right now, but as soon as I am able, I’ll give it a try. This place also has some great specials for lunch rates for set dinners before 7 pm. I got Chicken Teriyaki, Tempura, salad, miso, California Rolls, and more rice all for $ 6.50. The owner/waitress seems like a very nice lady. There was even some ice cream for desert! The décor was what got me. It was like one of my aunties exploded all over the inside. They have decorative hapi coats, scrolls with pictures of cranes, kites, lanterns, and a tiny rock garden. They even have a tatami seating area that you can reserve for parties.

I can’t believe I took so long to try this place. The name and the location were offputting somehow. I think it’ll become our neighborhood go-to place, though. New rule: Only look at Japanese restaurants with 3−4-star ratings, not 5-star, because … because people around here don’t really get Japanese food. If you’re looking for a Rainbow Cheez Whiz roll, go somewhere else.(Please.) Like Yuki and Yoshi’s, this is a simple Japanese restaurant serving a variety of cooked food and sushi, the US version of a «shokudo”-style restaurant. This place is cheaper and more worn than Yuki, but bigger and more open inside than Yoshi’s. The menu includes fried oysters, katsu curry, chawanmushi, croquettes, ayu shioyaki, and a selection of sashimi and sushi. The sashimi I ate wasn’t cut all the way through in one section, but the quality was really good, so I didn’t care. It seems to be a two-person operation, so be patient and enjoy the authentic Japanese food.(I had a roll with macadamia nuts on it once somewhere. It was good, I admit. But this is NOT that kind of place.) Japanese spoken; specials taped everywhere in Japanese(but kindly translated). They also have a tatami room($ 18 pp minimum). They do takeout cheerfully and their specials are a good deal, so if you want some old-school, real-deal Japanese food stop by. (Did I mention how inexpensive it was? We spent $ 30 for two and over-ordered a little bit.) P. S. If you order a $ 1.50 roll … don’t complain when it’s 4 pieces!

I have been eating there for about 8 years. They have very good prices and you definitely get your moneys worth. The quality is not the best or freshest but then again you can’t beat the prices. I normally get their lunch special. I would stick with the lunch special. If you want high quality sashimi then there are many other places that are much better but will cost you. You basically get what you pay for.

Updated: Came here today for a quick lunch with a girlfriend and it was great! Got the 2 item bento lunch. I picked sashimi and tempura which came with soup, salad, rice, and a couple pieces of fruit. My friend got the sashimi and saba. Both our meals with tip was $ 21. Such a great price and we werent weighed down by a heavy lunch. 5 stars to this wonderful family establishment

This is a local Japanese restaurant owned by Japanese serving authentic home style food. It’s not a fancy sushi joint, nor is it trying to be. The combination dinners are a great deal and everything is fresh and made with pride. It’s very low-key and has a relaxed atmosphere. The server is very attentive and friendly. Again, if you’re expecting an upscale dining experience, kabuki might not be what you’re looking for. But if you want traditional Japanese food without pretension then this will be right up your alley.

I was in this area for lunch, and was craving some Japanese food. Right now all that’s on my mind lately is Japanese food, noodles and anything with cheese. There’s tons of Japanese places in the area and I chose this one because honestly, I didn’t feel like spending $ 20 just for myself for a quick lunch. I ordered the Kabuki Lunch bento special for $ 6.60. Yes you heard me RIGHT! $ 6.60! This comes with Terriyaki Chicken, tempura(with one shrimp), miso soup, salad, rice and 4 California rolls. The only issue with my lunch was that I asked for sauce only on the side, and it was still on my chicken. I also ordered a spicy tuna roll for $ 2.50. My cousin got the tuna sashimi appetizer for $ 7, and a Philly roll for $ 3.50. Our total for 2, just came to $ 21 something. Our waitress was a sweet older lady who came to check up on us twice during our meal. The chicken was very juicy and tender, just a little charred, exactly how i like it. The tuna was fresh, the service was good. We even got a little cup of free ice cream and tootsie rolls. The atmosphere is very drab, the walls are plain and the paint is depressing. There is an abandoned sushi boat river without anyone attending, and obviously no boats with sushi on it. There were many unwelcoming signs like $ 5 to use the restroom if you aren’t a customer, and no free ice cream for dinner… But Hey, If you are looking for a quick casual lunch, this is the place to go. I don’t really care to spend $$$ more on just ambiance, especially for a quick lunch, If the food is good and fast, service is kind, you will find me there.

Very pleased. My husband and I came here for dinner yesterday… was kind of looking for an affordable japanese restaurant. Unilocaled diff restaurants and found this one to be what we wanted«good and affordable» I ordered a 2 item combo Salmon Terri and tempupra, My husband: chicken terri and gyoza. It came with a small salad… the dressing was ok…, rice and a slice of orange(juicy & sweet) and a slice of honey dew melon(very sweet!!). The food was cooked homestyle. Nothing unique… a little burnt… but burnt on the good side. I enjoyed it very much so. Price: $ 7.90 each order(how could you beat that? We also ordered a california roll for only $ 1.50(not too big… and more rice than center filling but the rice was moist and the roll was enjoyable for the price!!! FORSURE! All in all… the taste was great for the PRICE!!! Will def come back… then at the end, to top it off… we got a small scoop of ice cream.(The ice cream is the vanilla with the chocolate swirl… like the big tubs you get from the grocery store… definitely fresh… and definitely a great treat to put a smile on or full faces… but needed that sweet ending. :D AWWWWSATISFIED!!!

Looking for fast service, cheap food, and want to support a mom and pops place? This is it! Like a good handful of restaurants, this place is definitely a hole in the wall. Located in a not-so-nice-looking plaza, this place is pretty nice inside. I feel bad that it was pretty dead when we dined there for lunch. The first thing that caught my eye was their lunch special(should it even be called a lunch special if this special runs until 7pm!?). For less than $ 7, you can get a bowl of miso soup, a side of California rolls, and a Chicken Teriyaki/Tempura bento box. The bento comes with rice, salad, and a few pieces of fruit. SCORE! They bring out your food pretty fast, and the service was superb. I know, I know, the service should be superb because we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, but she seemed like one of those people who actually cared if we’re having a good time eating there.(But I may be biased because I do have a soft spot for mom and pops!) Some places, if you take chicken teriyaki home as leftovers. the chicken is very dry. The chicken here is still pretty tender as leftovers. That’s always a plus in my book!

Came here for lunch and this review is only for the nigiri sushi which I had, not the rolls. I really wanted this to be ‘my sushi place’. + Place looks small from outside but is spacious on the inside. +Customer service is excellent. +Prices are cheap. …but… –The sushi was more rice than fish. The fish was very thin on top. More like you’d find at a cheap sushi buffet. I guess this is why the prices are so cheap. To be fair, I did not try any rolls or bento box so I’ll come back to try those maybe in the future. It’s a good place if you have a desperate sushi craving and want to save some money. And I’ll add an extra star because the waitress was really nice.

Sometimes the small out of the way places are special as this one is! Food here is very authentically prepared and flavorful. Very traditional Japanese preparation can be found here. I gave four stars due to the sushi bar is not in use, they say is because sushi boat canal is broken. Otherwise this is a great spot for that sushi fix.
