My new go to place for oysters and sushi! Place is really nice very clean and service was on point with a smile from the hostess who sat us down to the waiter for being so patient with us. Oysters were fresh and very flavorful our 2 sushi rolls we ordered were very filling and satisfying… he had a cab and I ofcourse need to be dramatic with my drinks had a flaming pornstar lols. Deff come here if your looking for a great upscale place for sushi and fun drinks!

We go to this restaurant because our friends recommended it. Its beautiful and of course that means the food is super expensive. We have a nice meal and my friend pays the bill. The manager runs out and says did you leave a tip at the table? He says i dont mean to demand one its just did our server not give you good service? My friend says she just forgot but she doesnt have any more cash. So my boyfriend pulls out his wallet and gives the manger 4 bucks. The manager is this all? Because it was a $ 100 meal. Thats all the cash I have says my boyfriend. So the manager says ok, I didnt mean to do this after your meal. Its like dude are you fuckin for reals? We dont have to tip its just a American cultural thing. Its not by law. Ruined the whole damn meal. Never going here again.

No stars for them. I’m literally a regular that comes for the monday half off sushi rolls every Monday. I went this evening and they changed to summer special all rolls $ 8.00. There was also a new waitress that would not attend us. We had to yell across the tables to get her to bring us forks and soy sauce. On top of that i accidently left my leftover to go sushi box and called immediately after I left when I drove over to target down the street and remembered I had left my box on the table. They told me that they could not find any to go box and when I talked to the manager they said they’re was nothing they could do about it. I called not even ten minutes after I had left. I won’t be coming back to my favorite sushi spot anymore. Disappointed and frustrated with the manager saying there was nothing they could do. I made this Unilocal account just to review this place.

I went to Kaenyama with a couple of friends for their half off sushi deal. When we arrived, they said they do not offer this deal anymore, but rather $ 8 for all signature rolls. The quality was alright. The rolls were tinier than other sushi places. COMPLAINTS: LONGWAIT: When we got seated, it actually took awhile for them to take our order. It took them about 45 minutes to a hour to give out our food! Insane. there were other tables getting served that arrived after us and they even finished before we got our food. It was a weekday too! BATHROOMS: There are three stalls in the women’s restroom in total. One of the stalls in the women’s restroom were terribly clogged. Two of them didn’t have a proper lock. BADSERVICE: The fact that they took forever to give out our food was already terrible. It takes awhile for them to get to your table if you need something. What really ticked me off that they were not really doing their job. I think they think that they don’t have to work as hard with their customers because the place charges a 18% GRATUITY!!! When I got my bill back, they didn’t even bother to give me the right amount of change! Very upsetting. When I did ask for change, our server was just like«Oh I forgot to give you change?» He then proceeds to just take out random change from his shirt pocket and hands it to me??? Really? He didn’t even bother to see how much I needed back… Overall, I wouldn’t come back to Kaenyama because of the lack of consideration for their customers. Also their rolls aren’t worth it, despite the $ 8 signature roll deal.

Kaenyama is a basic Teppanyaki style restaurant where they cook the food in front of you with a show. Very crowded Saturday night for my crowd. The chef was friendly and was amusing to watch and the food was good. I had their New York Steak and Calamari combo that included salad, miso soup, fried rice, and the entrees cooked to order. We also ordered sushi appetizers which were tasty. My main complaint: They have a full bar(and I assume a competent bartender) but had a problem with the«concept» of a Bombay Sapphire Extra Dry Martini with one olive. The waitress had to come back twice to ask what I wanted, then came back a third time to tell me that I would be charged twice. I asked why? She said for the double shot of gin? I asked what double shot? Then I said that extra dry just meant very little vermouth. She said«oh.» After that she brought my martini back with a cherry in it(ala a manhattan), NOT an olive. I gave up at that point and drank it. Ordered a beer afterwards. Shameful.

This place remains as one of my all time favorite Japanese Restaurants. Came here for dinner and ordered the Teriyaki dinner which was a huge portion of steak, shrimp and scallops served with a side of veggies, rice and miso soup. The steak and scallops were very tender. Just the way I like them cooked. Everything was so tasty. Will be back to try some of the other things on their large menu selection.

Its ok Been there for teppanyaki and Sushi. Teppanyaki chef was skilled at the show and service but the food lacked flavor. The price you pay for this is not worth the food at all. The sushi is another bad story. The fish is not fresh and the tools are neither Japanese traditional nor Americanized. Almost like take out sushi from a grocery store, bad. Never again will go here. There are two really good sushi places in fremont, Aniki and Satomi… I prefer going there in a heartbeat.

It was my favorite sushi bar in Fremont over 3 years. But today, it was my last visit. Last time I was here about month ago and today all sushi were worst I’ve ever tried. Also I felt very bad after eating. My favorite eel roll came with skin only without eel meat. I just couldn’t believe to my eyes. I have nothing to say. Disappointed. Service was prompt and fast, so no complains. But cooking… Omg… Never again.

My mom and I came here looking to satisfy our sushi craving, and were highly disappointed. For starters, service is terrible. The restaurant was not very crowded, nor was it peak lunch hour, but we waited over 30 minutes for our two lunch specials and didn’t get any apologies. Instead, only very fluffy and defensive excuses. The food was mediocre at best, and portions were tiny. It’s a bummer because I was at first very excited by their seiza-style seating, and was planning on coming back with a larger group if I had a good experience. Moving on!

It’s a shame that there are so many bad reviews for this place because this is my favorite sushi bar in Fremont(disclaimer: my review is only for the sushi). I love taking visiting friends here because the ambiance of the place is more upscale and there’s a great selection of sushi rolls. Unlike a lot of other sushi places I’ve been to, different rolls actually taste different, and they aren’t all filled with imitation crab and shrimp tempura. PLUS if you come on a Monday night or Saturday noon, all sushi rolls are a whopping 50% off during happy hour, which is an AMAZING deal. I won’t deny that the service is on the slow side, but that’s fine with me as long as the food is delicious and cheap. Also, as a reference, my family of 4 usually orders 6 rolls and it comes out to less than $ 15 per person including tax and tip. Some of the more memorable rolls I’ve had: Hong Kong Dragon Pink Lady Roll 49ers Fancy roll

I love that this place can accommodate a large party! I think my friend had 30 people total in his party. I was looking forward to their sushi selection, but most of what we tried were just okay. The Pink Lady Roll which is supposed to be one of their specialty was disappointing! A friend of mine also ordered the ahi tuna poke seaweed salad. The tuna had a weird taste to it so she ended up shoving all the fish aside and ate the seaweed salad instead, lol. Upside? I liked the unagi!!! Maybe it’s better during HH??? =X

One of my boyfriend’s and I favorite sushi place in the East Bay. We had our valentine’s dinner here this year. My boyfriend made reservations for two, once we got there we were greeted by the host who was a sweetheart. She handed me a rose and sat us immediately. Once we were seated we decided to go with their fix valentines dinner menu + half a dozen of the oysters. We Started off with: 2 — Soups(clam chowder) which was good, the clams were big and cooked perfectly. 2 — Peppered Tuna Shooters(seared tuna with black pepper in a little glass) the seared tuna was delish, it was more like a sashimi because it was two big piece in a little glass, but it was good. Can’t forget the half dozen of oysters that we love. Everytime we come here, the oysters would be the first thing we would order. It’s that good! For Dinner we had ordered(1) sashimi with rose cherry blossom roll and(1) steak and lobster — The sashimi was fresh and the rose cherry blossom was too pretty to eat but, we ate it anyways. As for the steak it was cooked medium well which was good, but it was a fix menu so it’s cooked as is, not cooked as how you want it. The lobster was cooked perfectly. As for the dessert they had a special dessert strawberry mousse with chocolate cake. It wasn’t too sweet and it was just a perfect pairing, strawberry mousse and chocolate, who can say no to that!

Kaenyama Sushi is one of the best values in the South Bay! This review is solely for their sushi rolls. I have not tried their teppanyaki so I cannot comment. However, I have come here a few times now on Mondays, when all sushi is 50% off. At first I was hesitant because as everyone knows, you aren’t supposed to eat sushi on Mondays(since most fish markets are closed on Sundays therefore seafood at restaurants on Mondays are at it’s oldest). This is also probably why Kaenyama sells all their sushi 50% off on Mondays! Most Japanese restaurants aren’t open on Mondays but I guess Kaenyama found a way to sell all their leftover fish! But whatever, I live life on the edge! And the sushi doesn’t taste bad, most likely because it is drenched with sauces and tons of rice just like every other sushi roll joint. I mean seriously, to me it tastes the same as Sen Dai Sushi, Cha Cha sushi, or even Ariake, and it is 50% cheaper. Just this past Monday, we ordered $ 288 of sushi but only paid $ 144 or $ 18 per person and that included tax and tip for 8 people. Everyone was so full we even had seven pieces left over which someone took home for their family. Awesome! I’m more a nigiri, chirashi, or omakase kind of sushi eater. But if you like sushi rolls and don’t want to pay inflated prices, go to Kaenyama on Mondays!

Food is great, good quality. Come on Tuesday-Friday from 5pm to 7pm for Happy Hour, discounted appetizers, $ 3 draft beers and $ 1 sake! 4stars coz service could be better. Servers are very particular with their area/table. Which means eventho they are just standing there, seeing you looking for your server, they will not approach you and check if you need anything. Tea pot empty will be ignored until your server comes back. Been here almost once a week and this is consistent. We had to specifically ask for help just to get something when our server is somewhere else. Other than that, everything is good.

This review will likely be biased because my family and I came here sort of by accident. We initially tried to get a table at Aniki’s Sushi on Mowry but the wait was 2 ½ hours long… which was was SONOT going to happen! I was hangry big time and I needed food 2 hours ago. The wait here was less than 10 minutes and our waitress was ridiculously hilarious! She was quirky, friendly, and downright charming. She was also extremely patient despite the embarrassing fact that my family took at least 10 minutes to order and continue to ask her questions about literally everything on the menu. Pretty cool setting and layout. We were a party of 6 and we cozily fit inside one of their booths in the middle of the room. Although it got kind of loud, we were still able to continue our conversations normally. Shrimp Tempura($ 6.95) — We ordered 2 of these appetizers. The appetizer version comes with 3 pieces of shrimp, 1 eggplant, 1 broccoli, 1 onion, 1 sweet potato, and 1 carrot. Standard. Alaska Roll($ 6.95) — Pretty good but not a stunner. Hong Kong Dragon($ 14.95) — Great specialty roll. Basically California roll with spicy tuna on top. Fancy Roll($ 12.95) — Tuna and yellowtail with sauce. I remember enjoying this roll but really can’t remember specific because the number of different rolls we ordered! Eel Dragon($ 11.95) — Simple combination of unagi, avocado, and crab. Lobster Tempura($ 11.95) — Liked the lobster tempura but lacked some flavor. Huge pieces for sure but I needed an extra kick of flavor. 49ers($ 12.95) — Great for salmon lovers! Also has avocado. Lion King Roll(12.95) — Their version of the lion king is subpar; I’ve enjoyed lion king rolls at other places much more. Kansai’s version is much, much better. Spider Roll — Complimentary roll for our table as a result of a mix-up. The best roll of the night! Soft-shell crab with cucumber, avocado, and sauce. Sooo good. Deep-Fried Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream($ 6.95) — We actually ordered dessert twice, one was vanilla and one was green tea. The vanilla was good but green tea was the clear winner. I’ve had deep-fried tempura ice cream in other places but Kaenyama serves a giant portion compared to other places I’ve been to. The tempura is also thicker and breadier, so if you’re into that, then make sure to get dessert. Personally, I thought it had a little too much bread but I’m not complaining too much(I did end up eating all of it…).

I’ve been here many times but only during time for ½ off on special rolls. The wait is always long even the restaurant is big. It’s always crowded every time I come. I like the fact that their rolls are big and not quality or quantity reduced when they are ½ off. I like pink lady and spicy girl rolls the most because I love salmon sashimi and these rolls have thick cuts of salmon. Other rolls are pretty good too. So for ½ off, each roll is about $ 7 on average which is super great value. What I don’t like about this place is that the service is soooo slowwww. It takes forever to have your food brought out. And servers are not attentive at all. I know that they are very busy when the restaurant is crowded. However, it is not an excuse. It was hard for us to get attention from a server, and when we finally got one, the server is not ours so we were told to wait for our server for whatever we needed. And when we found the«right person» it was still wrong because s/he forgot what we needed. For extra ginger, we had to go thru quite a long process! Tips: $ 1 hot sake during hh — check in for free ice cream

Kaenyama… I forgot why I stopped visiting this establishment when I live so close by… hmm. Visited on Saturday and now I remember! Poor fish and service! Came in at 2pm and was seated promptly. Our server was speedy at taking our order, but she lacked finesse and didn’t seem confident about the menu. Asked about the shots they had(kinda like hamachi shots) and if the ~$ 9 price tag came with 1 or 2 shots. She pauses, and hesitantly says 1, okay. When we were served the miso soup, she drops the soup bowl on the table so hard that almost half the bowl poured onto the table. & nope she didn’t notice cause she wasn’t paying attention anyway while she walked away. We ordered a dozen oysters, special unagi lunch, and chirashi lunch. The oysters were the best thing that we ordered. It did not disappoint! Met our expectations of freshness and sauce. Might only come back just for the oysters for happy hour. Chirashi bowl came afterwards. all of the fish were weak! The fish texture was not melt in your mouth or smooth… it was grainy. cold… and they gave a lott of sushi rice. The only good thing I liked from it was the uni which was unexpectedly silky. Unagi special lunch took a long time to come out. Mainly because they had to cook it. But it sure made it awkward for me to eat in front of my bf while they took their time prepping his. I was almost done when they served his lunch. TLDR: –service is inattentive even if the place is not packed — fish quality is mediocre — they remind me of nijo castle: they need the fancy décor to mask the poor service and quality of food. If you had to choose between sushi/rolls or teppanyaki I would go with teppanyaki. At least you get entertained and the food is tastier(can’t go wrong since it’s cooked). But be warned, their teppanyaki food quality is the same as any other takeout restaurant.

My family made reservations here for 40 people, and the workers at Kaenyama did a great job accommodating all of us. We were all there by the time it was 12:30, and food came out promptly after. We had preordered food a few days before in order to prevent any confusion and mass ordering when we were there, and good thing we did because everything worked out! In terms of food, the sushi is not of the best quality but it is still pretty good. Many options to choose from, and with 50% off on Mondays and Saturday lunch, Kaenyama offers sushi at a great deal. Solid sushi place!

Came here with friends on a dreary Thursday night. The restaurant wasn’t that crowded and we were seated right away. To be honest, I had low expectations going in. The restaurant looked beautiful on the inside: the decorations were classy and the high ceiling made the place look grand and luxurious. The bar also looked awesome. Which made me wonder if it everything was all show because the place wasn’t terribly full. I was proven wrong because when the food arrived everything was amazing. Usually Japanese food doesn’t really deviate in plating presentation. However, everything looked beautiful on my plate. I ordered a sesame tuna teriyaki. I was expecting some sear tuna over a bowl of fish, but instead I got this a beautiful array of tuna with a side of mashed potatoes with grilled veggies stacked on top with a bowl of sauce in the middle for dipping. I was very impressed. Boyfriend was also there and I tried some of his food. He ordered the katsu(I’m not sure what its called) and it was absolutely delicious. There were various stir-fry veggies and sauce over his rice and chicken as well as picked veggies too. I stole several bites of his dish because it had such a great flavor. Other friends had ordered sushi rolls and they also looked amazing. This place doesn’t disappoint and I would definitely recommend to friends. I was definitely wowed and caught off guard. I also want to come back to try the teppanyaki! I haven’t seen a restaurant that offers that in awhile.
