Made the trip from DC for an anniversary dinner and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The menu hasn’t changed much from my previous visit a couple of years ago but everything is just as good. My husband’s steak was perfectly cooked, as were my scallops. The homemade desserts were good but the mocha pave was very rich.

The food was very good but the closed circuit black and white TV was rather bizarre. It is not really about watching food being cooked, it is aimed at people walking in and out of the kitchen. Couldn’t see any point to it. Biggest problem was the management of their wine list. The first white wine I ordered they were out of. Second selection was not chilled and they brought it out in a wine bucket and I had to wait about 30 minutes for it be drinkable. The pleasant waitress was appropriately apologetic but I couldn’t help wondering why she brought it out in the first place. Not impressed by their lack of care over the wine but otherwise decent enough. Expensive at $ 50 per head prix fixe.

I have never felt the need to write a review on Unilocal before, but we enjoyed ourselves so much. I have realized that I am constantly telling people about my meal, so I figured it was time to share our appreciation for the well thought out and prepared dinner. My boyfriend found Apartment 2g for our 7 year anniversary. From beginning to end, our experience was fantastic! I had been craving scallops, and I chose the main course to be scallops. Best scallops I have ever had! The risotto was amazing. My boyfriend said he would now be disappointed with any risotto meal in the future, because this was just too good! Not only was the food great, but the experience of watching you food being prepared, and the interaction between husband and wife was a lot of fun, especially for a couple. The ambiance is cozy and comfortable. We will definitely return if we are ever in the area, and maybe even for a special occasion again(only 1.5 hour trip – well worth it).

My husband and I moved to Front Royal a year ago and have wanted to try Apartment 2g since then. We finally had the chance to dine there this evening, and it did not disappoint. We both had the filet as our entrée, shared a bottle of wine which the server was knowledgeable about, and enjoyed fabulous desserts(mocha pave and bread pudding). The restaurant is quaint and quiet, and this is definitely the nicest place to eat in Front Royal.

So good! Did the prix fixe dinner. Starters were delicious and all portion control sized. Dinner was a good amount-enough that I couldn’t finish. Lamb shanks for my hubby and filet mignon for me. Cooked to perfection. Would go again if we lived close!

Apt 2g is Front Royal’s wonderful little restaurant for either a romantic night out or for a group of your best friends. Their wine — food pairing dinners are amazing and exceptional in every respect. Their Rhone wine dinner was absolutely perfect. I’ve also attended the vintner dinner with Glen Manor wines at Apt 2g. For comparrison, I’ve attended Glen Manor vintner dinners at One Block West in Winchester, The Ashby Inn in Paris, Chez Francois in Great Falls, and Apt 2g. The Apt 2g dinner was the best, hands down best, by far! Apt 2g serves some of the best food you can get between Front Royal and the beltway.

We love Apt 2G so much, we actually drive from Richmond and spend the night in Front Royal to eat there! The other reviews are correct that table service is enthusiastic, but sometimes a little slow because they are so small. But the food is fantastic and definitely reasonably priced. And the idea of a TV in each dining room so you can watch the husband and wife work hard in the kitchen is brilliant! And it’s fun to actually walk into the kitchen and watch. We love it!

You will not be disappointed! My friend and I, she from Baltimore, me from Richmond, try to find a geographically inconvenient place to meet for dinner. This has led to us trying many«neighborhood gems» and other«strip mall sensations.» Apartment 2g as AMAZING and a very good value. There is a disconnect between when the town closes down(mostly 5pm, some stores, 6pm) and the first seating at Apt. 2g(630pm). This resulted in us killing time at Element(see that review separately). When we asked if we could get in at 630 instead of our reservation time at 7, they said no. It turns out that they do not turn the tables over during the evening and instead the response seemed to be their way of ensuring staggered seating, thus ensuring proper food preparation and delivery — we were ok with that once we realized it. Now for the meal. We shared the filet and crab cakes. The filet was cooked perfectly and the crab cakes(remember, my friend is from Maryland, she is pretty discriminating when it comes to crab cakes) were great. The portions were huge, not a 3 oz steak or two half-dollar sized crab cakes. We had some strawberry concoction(pavlova) and peach crumble for dessert… wonderful. Coffee was great(but, they should have soy milk). The food was a bit too salty for our tastes, but that is just us and not a reflection of the overall experience. When I go back, I will request no added salt. This is a perfect place for a delightful unhurried dinner. Enjoyed the cctv, but had to stop in to the kitchen on my way to the bathroom for a first hand view of the brains. I live part-time in VA. My home is in LA. This is on par with The Hobbit in Orange County( ), without the wine cellar prelude. Cannot wait to go back!

I didn’t know what to expect… after the washington post gave it 3 stars and the two reviews here at 5, I had to see for myself. The service was extremely good. The server was knowledgeable and extremely nice. He even provided us with some local winery info he had on hand. The food was between good and very good. The brunch consisted of a basket of pastries(ok), a baked pear dish(good), and then my wife had an apple pancake and I had eggs on crab cakes(very good), desserts we took with us since we were full and they were very good. I can’t recall ever having such wonderfully pooched eggs! Maybe it sounds silly, but they were perfect. The desserts were extremely good. Concerning the tvs and watching them cook, I imagine that for a dinner or with more patrons, this is quite a fun scene with lots of activity. People told us that we could interact with them if we wanted(walking into the kitchen to say hi?). We didn’t and there were very few people eating brunch so the kitchen was pretty slow but it was fun looking up once in awhile to see your dish being prepared. I didn’t feel like the tv added anything measurable to our experience. This is, what I have surmised, to be the best place to eat in Front Royal and I would think it would be hard pressed to find such wonderful chefs anywhere else in town. We enjoyed our meal greatly.

The absolute best place to have a great dinner in the valley. Stacy and David are fantastic chefs who put love and care into every dish. We recently took my mother-in-law to dinner here. It was a perfect evening. Dinner was fabulous, the service was spot on and everyone loved watching their dinner being prepared on the closed circuit TV. We visit Element(the restaurant downstairs also owned by Stacy & David) almost weekly. I can’t say enough good things about both establishments. The next time you are in Front Royal stop by for a wonderful dinner.

I’m a fan! The husband and wife team met while working at The Inn at Little Washington, which is about as good a kitchen pedigree as you get west of DC. They’ve alloyed fabulously upscale food with a quirky, casual yet still elegant dining experience. It’s a nice mix. The meal(3 courses + amuse bouche) exceeded the price tag($ 50) by far. The art makes the place, running from found objects to traditional water colors. And I like the«come into our apartment and dine» concept. I’d put a rug or two down to make it feel even more cozy. The service is exactly what you’d expect at a place run by a couple. A little haphazard at the table, but more than made up for by the invitation(on every menu) to come visit in the kitchen and chat while they do their magic.

After having been a customer of Apt. 2G since they opened some years ago, I am sad to say I have had a very bad experience that makes it unlikely I will return. To make matters worse, we had made the reservations for out-of-town guests who wanted to treat us to a special meal for my husband’s birthday. They must be wondering what we were thinking. The kitchen and the service that night could not have been less co-ordinated. We went for Tapas — 4 people each starting with an order for 2 items each, along with wine. Service was quite slow to get our order taken, except for the wine. My order of mussels came at least 15 minutes before the other 2 orders and the focaccia to go with it came only after we asked for it(despite the fact that the other tables around us, even those arriving well after us, received theirs in a timely manner.) What was really hard to understand was why the salads we had ordered were not brought as soon as they realized the 2 mussel orders were missed by the chef. We finally suggested that the 2 diners with nothing to eat could at least have those. This small restaurant is owned by 2 professionals who should know better. They are the only 2 involved in the food prep so the waitress can’t be blamed for the slow service. With the TV screens, it is very easy to see how and when the food for your own table is prepped and delivered. They made no effort to ameliorate the problem other than the waitress’s repeated apologies. I was appalled to have taken our friends for such an experience.
