What can I say except this is our favorite home cooking spot! Breakfast lunch and dinner, doesn’t matter they’re all delicious and freshly cooked! Staff is always efficient and friendly. I like the way the restaurant manager is helping in the kitchen to keep things flowing. The market with fresh flowers and veggies is so cool!

I gotta tell you… If you are anywhere close to Georgetown, Texas… This place is a MUST! The Monument Café had been around for 20 years, 8 years in this location, and they have it figured out. Catherine(who happened to wait on us both times we went) was friendly, welcoming and efficient. I love a breakfast restaurant that has great food AND great service… often a hard combo to find. With a friendly smile and a way to anticipate what we needed, she was great! The Eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly. Yolk runny, whites cooked, and a hollandaise sauce that had just the right consistency and flavor combo. The Ruben gets 5 stars with fresh, lightly toasted bread, a very lean tasty cut of meat, homemade thousand island, and sauerkraut that even a kid loved! Since we are in Texas, we had to order the Chicken Fried Steak. I wish I had taken a pic, but it was dug into too quickly. Breaded just right with a crisp outside, tasty steak and smothered with a delicious white sausage gravy. We had the mashed potatoes which were piping hot and flavorful. My absolute favorite part of the meal was the biscuits. Fluffy, buttery soft on the inside and hard on the out. Ask for the homemade blackberry and strawberry jam. It is the bomb! And fyi, they do sell it to take home in the Market attached to the restaurant. The beer garden wasn’t open, but looked charming! All in all… My favorite stop this trip to Austin. Love to see a restaurant that excels on service, atmosphere, and food. We can’t wait to come back!

We stopped by The Monument Café around 11:30AM last Sunday after swimming in the nearby Blue Hole and were delighted to have stumbled upon such a charming establishment! First big plus for me, as a mom coming in with a soaking wet toddler, was the incredible restrooms. Individual unisex rooms line the back hallway with their own toilets, sinks, and changing tables. Made getting the kiddo changed so much easier. So I’m already sold, right? But then I came out to find my husband had already been seated — so the wait was practically nothing. We had prompt, friendly service throughout. I got the two eggs breakfast platter with grits(cheesy and gritty), bacon(thick cut yet still crispy like I requested), and biscuits(fluffy and buttery clouds with chunky fruit jams). My husband got the pot roast and really liked the quality of the meat and perfectly season mashed potatoes. Even the corn on the cob was delicious. The waitress was kind enough to bring us extra biscuits for our son and my husband. We also ordered a caramel apple bread pudding for the road since we were too stuffed to eat it then but I knew I had to try it. Then I managed to get distracted while we were packing up and left it on the table — but the waitress managed to beat me outside and run it to my husband in her haste to make sure she didn’t miss us! Talk about service. And it was scrumptious, by the way — the decadent sauce was the perfect salty sweet caramel. Just a fabulous experience all around. We will certainly be back!

Allright! This is the first restaurant to which I have given 5 stars. It is that good. I’m always looking for some great home-cooking restaurants around North Austin, but until now have not found one I would even consider average. Not so here, the chicken fried steak is my favorite chicken fried steak in the Austin area now. The made from scratch mashed potatoes and gravy(with the skins mixed in to the potatoes are to die for. The hamburger steak is the best I have ever had and well worth it even if you don’t normally order it. And the truck stop enchiladas should be on your list for your next visit. The food is fresh, locally sourced, mostly organic and delicious. It’s a bit of a drive even from where I am, but well worth it. Keep up the great food Monument Café!

My reason for four stars is really the pricing. The food is delicious and the chocolate pie is out of this world! My daughter had me order a whole one for her birthday! The sad thing is the price continues to go up and the portions have gone down. I don’t need more meat, but one vegetable side for an $ 11 entrée is high for me. However, we still frequent Monument. It is one the gems in Georgetown. With a family of five, we just don’t go as much as we used to.

Went 2 weeks ago, ordered an omelet, wasn’t all that, suppose to be cheesy and it was a slice of cheese, the staff was great but the food had NO flavor, should have stayed with my first choice, IHop.

I like this place better than my husband did. It is a very charming place, 1940s nostalgia with a small organic sort of grocery store off the back. I would like to order the specials but they were all out by the time we arrived, which I guess is understandable since we arrived after 2PM. I ordered the chicken fried steak after reading the reviews that it was stellar, and my husband got fried chicken. It was a little disappointing that each dish only came with one side and if you wanted a salad or anything you had to pay extra. Our server was on the ball at the beginning but got slower as the time went on and we had to wait longer for refills. The food arrived pretty quickly. My chicken fried steak was good, but not the best I’ve ever had. I wasn’t too crazy about the mashed potatoes, but I did like the salad. My husband enjoy his meal but also just thought it was good and nothing special. We ordered the chocolate pie with the pecan crust. It was rich and delicious. I would probably come back, but my husband won’t want to. The dessert is the best part of the meal here.

Whoo! I had the monument burger with cheese and it was so packed full of flavor I don’t know how my mouth was able to hold it all in! Jill was our server and she was very nice and knowledgable. She checked in on us the perfect amount. She wasn’t overbearing and wasn’t so scarce that I felt like we were forgotten about. And she was quick to bring out everything that we asked for. I also love the whole diner feel that the resturaunt has. You don’t see many places like that anymore. 5 stars for monument! You will be seeing me again!

The café goes with Historic Georgetown’s overall ambience — it’s an old school diner with large windows and is very brightly lit. It’s comfy, but comfy isn’t always enough. Here’s what gets me — dirty cups. Twice I asked to change my tea cup, twice it came out with old coffee stains. Some of the plates were dirty, too. That really put a damper on the whole experience. As for the food– I have definitely had better waffles in my day. It was sort of thin, and crunchy. There’s an extra charge on ANY topping as well. But the fresh churned butter was a big plus, so was the warm old fashioned syrup. My kid’s pancake shaped like Mickey Mouse was really good. Standard issue pancake, nothing to see here. Service was sort of erratic, but I don’t blame our waitress. She was elderly, and all I can do is admire her will to keep going in a room full of noisy families, rude guests, the overly polite and the occasional loner. I was observing the other wait staff, they all seemed to be doing a good job. I’m willing to say that maybe I didn’t order the best thing on the menu. I’ll probably come back for that interesting veggie plate, but I really hope they ‘clean up’ their act by then.

I came here on a Sunday around 0945 and it was getting busy. I was greeted by two friendly hostesses who asked for my number. They text you when your table is ready. I was expecting a 30 – 40 minute wait but that did not happen. We walked towards the store in the back and it was pretty neat. They had all kinds of things in there: local olive oil, home grown veggies, tea pots, lotions and scents, mini bakery goodies, deli like service, and gluten and vegan free items. It was just a range of items that was local. I didn’t buy anything since nothing caught my eye. The variety of olive oils are pretty good although I was sure not get too full from that bread. About 20 minutes later I received a text from the restaurant letting me know my table was ready. Wow! We sat by the booth and ordered. Surprisingly the menu was not a variety of common breakfast things that I was used to seeing(corn beef hash, eggs benedict, steak and eggs, etc.). They had the common pancakes, waffles, French toast but if you wanted bacon, eggs, sausage etc. you were to get that as a side dish. Most places have it as a meal. I ordered a stack of two pancakes for $ 7. If I were to add eggs and bacon it would’ve been $ 12 for my whole meal. I mean, I don’t mind paying for a really good meal, but something has to stand out for a $ 12 breakfast that has simple ingredients. Don’t get me wrong, the food was good. I enjoyed it but I have had better. Jim’s restaurant def beats this place although the setting of Monument Café beats Jim’s. We ordered pancakes, waffles well a waffle(everything is additional), and an omelet. They used fresh spinach in the omelet so I give them extra kudos for that. The coffee is decent and comes in the small café con leche looking cup for $ 2.50. The service was good. I felt rushed by the waitress but that’s okay, her tip reflected that. Now will I come here again? If I had to. The food was good but nothing to brag about, the service was decent, and the environment is lovely. I didn’t try what Guy Fieri tried but I’m good with that. It’s not what it is hyped up to be.

Came with a bunch of friends to kill time before a wedding reception at The Union on Eighth and was glad we had this pit stop! We came close to 5PM and luckily a friend grabbed a table for us, but they still seemed to have some tables available. We weren’t exceptionally hungry but wanted something to munch on, some got milkshakes, others the Strawberry Lemonade Shaker, and a lot went with a slice of pie! OH and what I loved was while waiting for our snacks we got some house made biscuits which were quite tasty, similar to Popeye’s but a bit flakier. I opted for a slice of coconut crème pie which was just what I needed to satisfy my sweet tooth! I actually liked how the coconut crème pie wasn’t overly sweet, had a nice hint of coconut flavor throughout and you can definitely tell the crust was homemade-nice and flaky! Another couple also ordered the same but theirs was larger/had more whipped cream to custard ratio and lots more toasted coconut flakes. Sigh, therefore I had to work through my feelings of pie envy as I really like pie, crème, and toasted coconut flakes but overall a pretty solid pie! Service was pretty good and loved how the server could just swipe our credit cards at the table and even did split checks without a fuss! Sadly, due to time I wasn’t able to explore the market that features locally sourced, organic produce, meats and dairy products, but I did walk around outside and saw their garden, so definitely a farm to table type establishment!

Had dinner with some new friends here tonight — we are all fairly new to the area and had heard the Monument was a great place to go. We were not disappointed. I had the the King Ranch Chicken — first of all, casserole type food is not really my favorite but this was very good. Lots of flavor — nice mixture of cheese and lots of chicken meat. Wifey had the special — Chicken Cordon Bleu«something a-rother» — very good. Probably should have ordered it. Our friends really enjoyed their Chicken fried steak. Was a nice family type setting and the wait staff was very attentive. Looking forward to trying their breakfast — have heard wonderful things about the bacon.

The place was packed, but we got there right before the church crowd let out around 9:30am. If you’re looking to get in and get out, try arriving before 9am on weekends as the place can fill up quickly. Know that if you spot a seat or two at the long bar top, those are first come first serve. And if you find yourself waiting, just take a stroll through the Monument Café Market which features local and organic meat, dairy and produce products. They also take your cell number and text you when the table is ready, so you can even go walk around the town if you’d like, just don’t stroll too far. You’ll want to be close by when your table is ready! We waited about 15 min and were seated in the big bright retro looking dining room. I knew I wanted to have the Eggs Benedict, and for our second dish we decided to try the Migas Skillet. It was Migas on top of home fries and served with a side of refried beans and it was excellent! I can’t wait to go back, they have a biergarten which sounds perfect for the spring/summer months. And their menu looks so good I seriously have to go back for lunch and dinner. I’m hooked now, and hope you’ll give them a try too!

Service is painfully slow for some(us) and crazy fast for the«regulars». Kept getting told that she was holding off on taking our order until the kitchen was set up — they had been open for an hour. Biscuits and gravy were just ok, if it’s not powdered gravy it’s something close to it. Ordered the spinach, swiss and bacon omelet and it was loaded with water — not what you’d expect from the spinach, but enough that the plate was covered in water. Sent it back. Got the ham and cheese omelet, it was edible. Biscuits were old and tough. I absolutely do not understand the hype or ratings and honestly it’s embarrassing to think people are coming here thinking it’s going to be this great place they saw on some Food Network tv show. Skip it.

I’m honestly on the fence about this place. We had no major issues, but nothing about our experience gave me the desire to return. Pros: –Ample seating and no wait during lunch. –Good tea. –Large portions on most plates. –Friendly, and for the most part attentive, staff. –They have an onsite garden and use high quality ingredients. –They serve breakfast all day. Cons: –The price. I have to say, for lunch, that I expected a wider variety of affordable lunch specials, especially from a ‘café’. Everything was at or over $ 10 + your drink and while most of the portions(except the ridiculously, un-Texan like, small chicken fried steak) were probably large enough to share, that doesn’t excuse the fact that a typical weekday lunch runs $ 6-$ 9 not $ 12-$ 15. –They have no appetizer menu. Again, not very ‘café-ish.’ We had to wait a few minutes for another member of our party and decided to munch on some onion rings while we waited. Since they don’t offer an appetizer menu, we had to order a side and it was disappointing to see that their ‘hand battered’ onion rings were shoe string style like you would find on a green bean casserole… :/ –I wasn’t very hungry as it was and since I was a little put off by the lack of lunch specials, I opted for the grilled chicken kids meal. The chicken tasted good, albeit super buttery, but I’m glad I really wasn’t hungry. Had my 3 year old been with me, even he would have left hungry after the over priced 2 oz(literally!) serving of meat. –Apparently they offer free ‘homemade’ biscuits when your drinks are served, but we didn’t find that out until halfway thru our meal during a shift change. It’s a nice sentiment, but in all seriousness, their biscuits resemble pre-made frozen pillsbury biscuits in both taste and appearance. Will I return? Maybe. As in, if a friend or relative invited me to join them for breakfast or dinner. They have a market attached that from what I could see, offers a meat market /deli-style approach with sandwiches, fresh meat, eggs and bread. Maybe I will check that out if I happen to return. It sounds like my review isn’t exactly the norm, but I don’t understand the insane hype over such an overpriced, lackluster meal. There are MUCHBETTER restaurants within a short drive of here that are more deserving of such a large and loyal fan club.

I was torn between 4 and 5 stars, so let’s call this 4.5 review. First, the only«con» is sometimes the wait can be a bit long, but in all honesty, I’ve been seated no longer than 30 minutes. It’s nice to have the Market to browse while you wait. I’ve been for breakfast and lunch(several times) and both were amazing. I always save room for their pancakes because they are delicious. Their breakfast sandwich is perfect when you don’t want something too big but it’s just enough to tide you over. I had their chili for lunch and it was by far some of the best. The service has always been great and very attentive. Not living in Georgetown, it’s a treat when we choose Monument, but well worth the drive! Keep up the good work.

I just wanted to share my great lunch experience at the Monument café Great food, fried chicken/Cole slaw and side order onion rings. Delicious!!! The fried chicken had a very light and crispy coating, onion rings too! Coleslaw was the perfect compliment, perfect vinegar dressing! Dessert was great too, peach crisp a LA mode I Def recommend dining there and will return often to try their other menu items

Our waiter was good, but not great. He gave me a weird look when I told him about a food allergy. That really put me off. We had eggs Benedict and chicken fried steak. The eggs Benedict was terrible. Hollandaise had separated and one of the poached eggs was really overdone. They also used way to much acid to make the hollandaise. The potatoes were cold when my plate came out. The chicken fried steak was edible, but the gravy tasted like it came out of a package. We had pie that was good. Perhaps a little to sweet for me, but the crust was outstanding. Overall a very mediocre place. We will try agin when they are not as busy, but we were very unimpressed.

Wait was well worth it. We had read the reviews before we trekked to Georgetown last weekend. The only ones I would quibble with were the negative reviews. Sure, we had a wait on a Saturday — any great restaurant would have. I ordered the Monument burger and my two companions each had the quiche special with the Monument salad. Everything was fresh, local, seasoned to perfection. The burger melted in my mouth. The lemonades were fresh squeezed. The desserts(chocolate and coconut cream pie) should not be missed. Service was great.

Popped in this wonderful place on my way back from Waco on Friday and wow was it fabulous! It has a kind of 1940’s décor and ambiance and even plays the music of that genre as well. Our food was fresh and so delicious! Not a crumb was left! We stopped there this afternoon again because we wanted to taste more of their fine cuisine. Tried the coconut pie tonight and made the mistake of sharing a piece… Never again! Far too delicious! This was definitely a monumental meal!

Its taken me this long to write a review, I remember the small establishment they had before they hit the big times! You know this is a good place when you see all the seniors waiting in line, LOL! This is the type of diners you see in the movies/shows. Super busy, packed, tons of staff! Traditional food, time proven recipes. Given that this place is always packed, being on an hour lunch and getting out is not feasible. If you have time go check out the market, just behind.

Even when I lived in Pflugerville and then in Round Rock, I’ve been trekking up to this place for when I’m craving a really good, home-cooked breakfast. Now that we live in Georgetown, my husband and I frequent it more often than we should. :) I have had many items from their breakfast menu, including eggs benedict, pancakes, the ‘light plate’, cinnamon rolls, etc. I recently found(and have decided to stick with) the migas skillet, which is SOGOOD! Their biscuits and sausage gravy can’t be beaten, either. My husband and I sometimes get that as a side to go with our entrees. I’m usually not a big fan of breakfast sausage/sausage gravy, but seriously, guys… trust me when I say: this stuff is THEBEST. We’ve also gone in a couple of times for dinner, which is pretty good home-cooked food. I just prefer their breakfast. :) Don’t expect to waltz right in on the weekends, though… people line up before it opens.

First I’m not sure what others have had to be so delicious but ours was pure slop!!! I had pork steak with mashed potatoes which was delish with dirt grit in the first bite… puke. Please wash potatoes first if you are going to leave skin on! Cold and dry made them worse. The kind when a restaurant is too lazy to peel the skin off. The pork was processed sliced pure fat… gross and here I was thinking of chunky good pork. I have to give them credit ONLY for the veggies were fresh and good. My better half got the chicken Parmesan which was not breaded and was the cheap spongy water saturated processed chicken… again puke.. At 35.88 for slop I boxed up to feed my dogs awaiting in the car. At least they don’t have high expectations. If you read this I suggest sticking with all day breakfast… can they screw up an egg!?!. Bön appetite’. Seems all David the manager says is thanks for your comment we will share with the kitchen culinary staff. Pretty standard comment he says to all the posts. The waitress knew we weren’t happy with our meal and was careful not to ask if everything was alright. My husband wouldn’t let me complain to the staff. When a customer leaves the entire meal on their plate which both of us did there is a problem with the food. Nothing grinds me more than to leave a restaurant hungry and out of the pocket for a meal inedible. We ended up at McDonalds before our long drive home. At least you can count on McDonalds to always be the same standard of food.

Okay, it takes a doozy of a hoedown to get this cowboy to five stars. Let me tell you how it went. My friends abandoned me for breakfast and I was left with only myself and my need for a solid meal. I stumbled upon monument one unusually chilly October morning, and here is what I found. First, the bad. Since there is so little. –the menu was limited in the morning. If you don’t like sugary sweet or eggs you are out of luck. –that’s it. Seriously it gets way better from here. The good –all of the wait staff was incredibly friendly. Every person in the front said hello and offered their assistance. They were the realest people. The realest. –the omelet I ordered was as big as my face, for reference I have a solid twelve pound bowling ball for a head so it was pretty big! It was filled with bacon, spinach, and Swiss cheese. They didn’t skimp on the add ins. –the potatoes were delicious. 10⁄10 best part of my entire meal. They call them fries but they are clearly home style potato squares and they rocked my socks. Order them. –the coffee is smooth and the creamer comes on a classic tote for pouring. That was neat. –fifties big band music playing quietly in the background. Ambiance was spot on. –finally…the pie. Monument boasts about two pies and despite it being breakfast I had to test the hype. It was worth it. I had the chocolate pie and it was surprising. Toffee for the crust and a think fudge for the chocolate. It was very sweet(duh) and delicious. So a five star well earned. Thanks for turning a lonely breakfast into a tasty one!

I have been wanting to check this place out for years! I came with high expectations and I was not disappointed! It was 7 in the morning and I was hungry! I noticed Monument was open so I went! Our server, Angela, was amazing. She explained everything to us and was so cheerful. They don’t have Dr Pepper but they had a sweeter soda. It was great! She even let me know that the home fries could be ordered crispy. AMAZING! It was crispy and super good. You may want to try it. I kinda let my eyes do the ordering instead of my hunger. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy and home fries and the specialty pancake(cinnamon/apple). I assumed it was like one biscuit with gravy. Not at all. There were 4 biscuits with sausage gravy. Oopsy! The pancake was ssssssooooooooooooo good. OMG! Amazing! Check this place out. Has a diner feel, fresh ingredients, and great people. The waitress was so pleasant and friendly.

I’ve only had their breakfast items, but I am a fan already. The menu is a bit pricier than other breakfast places, but the fact that they make a lot of things in-house(including jams and jellies!) makes it all worth it. I got the«lite plate» which includes one egg, one strip of bacon, home fries and one biscuit. For $ 3 more, you can get the«two eggs» plate, which is literally double of everything on the«lite plate». I suggest getting all of three of their jams(strawberry, blackberry and peach) and seeing which you like best! It’s hard to go wrong with breakfast items, and they don’t disappoint. I’ve heard good things about their desserts too, but haven’t had a chance to try any. I really like the feel of the restaurant. Georgetown is a beautiful city with a sort of old timey feel to it, and Monument Café fits right in with that. It’s got the look of a classic 50s diner(I’m guessing, I wasn’t alive back then), with a few modern touches. It’s a nice place for a great breakfast.

So many reviews. So much hype. I may be in the minority here, but I just don’t see it. My first impression of the menu is that it’s a bit pricey from what I expect. But I’ve never had their food, so what do I know? Nevertheless, I put my negativity aside and stopped by for dinner. The complimentary biscuit was pretty good! Highly comparable to KFC’s biscuits in my opinion. However, my chicken fried steak was only okay. The batter wasn’t very crispy and easily fell apart from the steak. The steak itself was chewy and just didn’t have that great of a taste. On the other hand, the side of mashed potatoes had those small chunks of potatoes in it and tasted pretty good. I feel that I still have to give their breakfast dishes a shot and was also interested in their fried catfish. The overall environment had a great small-town feel to it and the service was pretty good. I can see how you can become a regular here. Food-wise, just not a great first experience.

I have had some very good meals here, but today was a bit of an off day. The good things: We sat at the counter, which we prefer here. We had a most charming and friendly waitstaff. In fact, when we left, I forgot the lemonade which I was taking with me as the lemonade is fantastic and she followed me out to give it to me! That is consideration and taking care of customers. The lady had a rational BLT with avocado and iced tea and like it. The bad: I had a two piece dark meat fried chicken with coleslaw. The thigh was not cooked all the way through and was a bit bloody in the center. The Leg was perfect. Will I go back? Of course! I like a lot of the food here and don’t see much faux food. Leave the caloric calculator at home! This is the first time I had any even small problem, and I still think it puts outs some good stuff. Just an off moment on a very hot day.

Monument Café is a must-stop for our family either on way to/thru Austin or on return trip. Located just a few minutes from I35 in Georgetown, they are well known for great food at reasonable prices. We have had brunch and lunch here many times and never had anything but a five star experience. Tonight we stopped by for dinner and were not disappointed. I had the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes. The steak was tender enough that a knife wasn’t really needed. It is lightly battered in a tasty peppered breading and served alongside a nice heaping of freshly mashed potatoes. The white gravy is delicious and not greasy. My wife had the«veggie» plate with mashed potatoes sans gravy. I’ve been married to this woman almost 20 years and tonight was the first time I’ve realized she only likes thin, brown gravy. I’m almost speechless. She also had quinoa(with feta and tomato chunks), mac n cheese and fried eggplant to round out her plate. The servings were too generous to finish. For dessert we shared a slice of chocolate pie. It was delicious except for the crushed pecans on crust. We are weird in that we dislike pecans and walnuts. Service here is effective and friendly. Definitely easier to get in and out on a Wednesday at 8pm than a Sunday at noon if you don’t like waiting.
